- Here is a quick video of the difference between a garage door chain drive and a garage door belt drive motor. Hope this makes anybody’s decision when picking out a new garage door opener.
Amazing video. do you know if the LED light assembly is replaceable if a failure occurs?
Yes it is. But so far I never had one fail yet.
This is a high end belt drive vs low end chain drive. It is better to compare 87504 belt drive vs 87802 chain drive.
87802 is a completely different animal. It’s made for heavy doors where 87504 won’t pull or have trouble pulling. So I went off of most common openers installed in our area.
What is the model number of the chain driven one.
Thanks for the video! Belt drive it is! 🎉 My chain drive motor just went out 12 years old good run west tx 😂. I had birds making and adobe house on the sprocket ⚙️. 🤦🏽♂️
Right on!
Nailed it. I enjoyed the video very informative. I was also curious. Can you still buy a garage door opener with an ac motor in California.
I don’t think LiftMaster has anymore AC motors. But I can be wrong.
great video. this is exactly what I was looking for to make an informed decision which one to go with: belt driven motor vs chain driven. You nailed it man!!! Many thanks!!!
Glad I could help
Excellent video! We are getting that same belt-drive soon. Belt drive is so nice and it is so quite! Can't wait to get it installed!
Good choice!
RE: the camera on the belt drive 87504....what does the camera do.??...takes video??..plz explain...GREAT video...THX.....plz reply soon.....4-18-24
Yes, it’s a video. Where you connect to your Wi-Fi. Anytime your door opens you could always use what’s going on. It also has a two-way radio. It’s good if you set up your Amazon prime to where they open up the garage door to put your package in. You can always know what’s going on.
The DISADVANTAGE of the built-in LED lights is that when they fail, fixing them can be more difficult than a simple screw in LED bulb. Yes, LEDs do fail, and when they fail, they will often blink, not just quit.
True. So far around 1k openers with LED’s we installed, we haven’t had a single problem.
Sounds like you are phasing out the chain drive units and want ppl to buy the Belt drive units with all the bells and whistles. I was hoping to find out why most Chain drive units only go up to 3/4 HP while the Belt drive units seem to go up to 1-1/4 HP.
My personal opinion is the 1-1/4hp makes no sense on the chamberlain units when the rail is piece together. And LiftMaster will only provide 3/4hp max in the residential unit. But they have heavy duty gears and solid double rail. Even if they provide that much hp, the gearing and the piece together rail will collapse much faster.
Thx for the video. Very helpful comparison! But I'm still concerned about getting a belt system b/c we have a 1970's era very heavy wooden 2-car garage door (non-segmented) that swings out to open and the heat in our garage can be extreme = sometimes higher than 100 degrees (with no climate control). Would a chain system be best for those conditions? We're not going to replace the garage doors (there is a 2nd wooden garage door (a single), but we don't open/close it).
It really depends on your door weight. I would probably recommend the chain drive on the wood doors. And if it’s very heavy, the carriage house Liftmaster’s are the best solution.
@@1agaragedoorssacramento Thx for your reply. Appreciate it! We'll chk out the carriage house models to assess if needed.
@@1agaragedoorssacramento We ended up getting that carriage house model installed today based on your idea. It's much quieter & doesn't look like it's straining like our old opener. Thx again. Our door seems to need t h e 3/4 h.p.
@@FotomakerAcademy awesome. Yeah those motors are workhorses. Even the gearing on them is different. Good choice!!
Thank you, very helpful 👌
Glad it was helpful!
What's the price for each motor including installation
They range between $650-$850
