    Despite the material he was given in the later seasons, Conleth Hill does a fantastic job with what he has. That slight sense of comfort he portrays on Varys's face, when Tyrion places his hand on him. He goes from purely resigned, to a hint of optimism. Not just the comfort of a friend, but realising that in Tyrion's reluctance, is hope for the future. That if things play out like he foresees, Tyrion might be the one to prevent it.

      Don't think that was hope or optimism... To me it was more of surprise at Tyrions' gesture of solace/last goodbye... Tyrion did not prevent anything, Varys wanted to prevent massacre in King's Landing while Tyrion allowed it by snitching on Varys... The one who prevented further bloodshed was Jon.

      @@rennyrules98 you sorely misunderstand Varys. he is nothing but loyal, probably the most loyal person in the show. his loyalty was and always will be to the realm, not to a person. he serves whomever best serves the realm, that is loyalty. that is the foundation on which he built his life and what he died for, being loyal. he did as only he could, he gave his all for the realm in a way very few are willing. Varys does not jump ship, he never left the ship as it is the realm itself, not ties to whomever is wearing the crown. while i can understand why you view it the way you do, it is an wholely incorrect interpretation of Varys and his motives.

    As poorly written and rushed as the final 2 seasons were overall, I find Varys’ death to be an oddly well thought out scene. He doesn’t scream, cry or beg and flail about madly like others we’ve seen on the show before their deaths. He’s as calm and collected as ever but with a distinct air of… Disappointment. Disappointment at the betrayal of a good and genuine friend, disappointment that after all the years of spying, spinning his webs and working his way up the social ladder that this is the way it ends. He knows his time is up, and he’s done everything he can up to this point. No point in begging now. He settled his affairs, removed his rings and awaits his death. Game over for the Spider.

    I think Varys and Tyrion were the worst advisors when it came to battle plans. None of their plans worked. I feel people say all she cares about is herself… she never had to help Jon Snow to begin him with. She made peace with Cersei and then Cersei backstabbed her and then killed her dragon and her best friend. She was tired of being played for a fool. And even after that Tyrion still wanted to negotiate with his sister? If she kept listening to them she would’ve lost a 3rd dragon and the war. When the bells rang I think that’s when she should’ve stopped. But I don’t think attacking with the Dragon was wrong

      @Phantom19913 Год назад +2

      I don’t think it was so much they were the worst advisors so much as the writers were wanting to make Danerys do bad things to justify her as the final enemy. Tyrion is actually a really good hand of the king his his arc in the book and tv shows support this. On the other of this Varys is a very good at what he does he would never jump ship the minute he finds out about Jon he would wait until it’s obvious Danearys is going crazy to swap sides. The final 2 seasons should have played out something like this. When the unsullied take Casterly Rock and the Lannister march on high garden where Tyrion then narrates he foresaw this and the Dothraki are revealed to have made the reach their staging point and quickly slaughter the Lannister and Tarly forces where Randyll and Dikon are imprisoned and will be punished by Westeros laws for betraying the reach and house Tyrell once the war is over. Realizing Euron can not give her advantage she needs to win the war she turns on him and looses the support of the greyjoys. So the conference happens and plays out the same but instead of Cersei deciding not to send her forces she does but gives her commanders the task of having them kill everyone once the night king is dead. The battle of the king night happens and they win Lannister forces and northerners seeing Danearys and her armies side by side with them creates a bond with them and causes both to pledge to Danearys. The next day the wildlings and Bran depart to beyond the wall saying their part of the story is done. While all this was happening Cersei is now facing a full citizens revolt because she isn’t that capable of doing anything without ticking everyone off food stores were looted by allies who she alienated, kings landing knows that Cersei will not stand down and get them all killed. As Danearys army marches south the great houses join her until she commands a huge army. By the time she arrives Cersei is overthrown Qyburn and the mountain were killed pathetically (use your own imagination). Then she makes terms where she will be spared Danearys wanting to end the war agrees to them. Aya not liking this goes crazy sneaks into the city and murders Cersei and tries to kill Danearys after but gets caught and is executed by Jon himself. It’s revealed after that the person they killed wasn’t actually Aya but someone else and this was a plot by Sansa, Danearys, and Aya to absolve Danearys of Cersei death while ensuring Cersei pays in blood for what she has done. Aya leaves for parts unknown but warns Jon his duty is going to take everything from him causing Jon to choose Danearys and become her king consort. Jaime ultimately decides to take Jon’s place at the nights watch and gives everything Tyrion saying he is paying the debt their father owed Tyrion and it’s his own way of rebelling against Tywin by making Tyrion Tywins heir. Finally the show ends just as it begins with nothing really changing just the faces.

    Daenerys was in the right to kill Varys here. I was saying from season 1 she would become the mad Queen. But here she had someone try and poision her. But Varys was right to attempt it. He knew there was no other way and that kings landing was going to be burnt to the ground. With season 7- 8 I didn't mind the roads they took just the short cuts to get there. Only decision I didn't like was Bran on the throne and how they played down Jon claim to the throne. When you watched the last 2 season it's like you have sat on the fast forward button. What made game of thrones speacial was seeing characters growing bit by bit from each episode. But D&D just wanted to get it over with and destroyed the whole show.

      „I didn’t mind the roads they took, just the short cuts to get there“… pretty much sums it up. I’ve always believed this is EXACTLY how George R. R. Martin intended the series to end. There is no point in denying it. I truly think it could’ve been epic, had we been closer to the characters in those final two seasons and understood them better through dialogue and small subtle moments like we remember them from the first few seasons. Seeing Daenerys slowly become a tyrant through the eyes of Varys or John. Even Bran being king could’ve made sense, had they humanized him more, had he still had some Stark left in him. John going back to the wall, had he shown more guilt and grief. It could’ve been perfect with the right material and right script. But in the end, the producers wanted to move on and were given a big enough budget to think nobody would notice how indifferent they had gotten.

    I cannot believe that Jon was a spectator to this execution without trial, and still supported her. Daenerys was indeed, far too much for him and his so-called sense of honour

    The ash Varys gets turned into is symbolic of how GoT's good writing was burnt to a crisp.
