    I was 14. This was part of the first rock festival broadcast on network TV. My parents actually let me takeover the den and even supplied snacks and soda for my friends and I while we watched it. They even let me hack into their brand new (and first ) RCA 25” color TV to feed it into my home made vacuum tube hifi amplifiers and my Sony mono cassette recorder (I was a budding electronic/audio engineer at the time). It was such a wonderful day! My dad didn’t object which amazed me given how opposed he was to the long haired hippie thing that I had just gotten into although he had no interest in watching it.
    Only recently my younger sister told me that my mom said they allowed it to support me in the new music I’d become interested in and in my dreams of becoming an engineer. Funny, learning that 50 years later. My mom was a great mother who always encouraged us to focus on our dreams and make them our reality. I spent my life as an electronics engineer thanks to her. Much praise and love to my late mother. Little did I know that she and my father would be gone a few short years later. Thanks mom and dad!

      I've been surprised at how MUCH there is (though still not enough). Considering how little music got televised, especially as far back as 1970 - hence why we only ever see one clip of the original Steely Dan (Reelin' In The Years). It's criminal that so many great bands left such a small visual footprint, if there is such a thing.

    • @chasbodaniels1744
      @chasbodaniels1744 4 года назад

      Absolutely right, and let’s include the near-criminal absence of good footage from Bowie’s Ziggy era. This well-produced and televised festival in 1970 at Cincinnati’s old Crosley Field (home of the Reds baseball team) was a rare occurrence for sure. It exposed me to Alice, Iggy, and GFR for the first time!

    Contrary to popular belief, the original Mountain was not a power trio as it's often reported. They were a quartet, because they had Steve Knight as a keyboard player. He was definitely a member of the band for the first four albums. I'm glad to see there's footage of the band with him in it. RIP Steve and Felix...

    I saw leslie West in the early 70s when was a kid j New Orleans. I think he was playing Nantucket sleigh ride and l saw a tear drop fall from his eye when he into the blues lead. At that point l know this guy had true soul. He could make his guitar drag feeling out of you. Ironically k am a musician now abd lost my right leg in a motorcycle crash after Katrina. It made me a better guitar player but l can't hold a candle next to Leslie. Hang in there bro. You are a true legend and inspiration!

      John Horridge I am a true rock music fan. I’ve played drums for 30 years. I lost my right thumb because I broke a blood vessel from rehearsing for a high school drum solo. But it didn’t stop me from playing. I’ve got 1.5 thumbs, but I’m about to start gigging with a heavy rock band. We’re doing 2 Mountain songs. Mississippi Queen and Never In My Life. Even though I’m an 80’s kid, I still see how amazing these early 70’s American rock bands were. This was the beginning of “heavy metal” music.

    Leslie created the rock "Wall of Sound" (not the Phil Spectre WOS). I have been fortunate to see him in various groups, Mountain, West, Bruce and Lang, and Solo and there is no one that can get that FAT sound that he gets. It just courses through your body and vibrates every cell of your being. Pure ecstasy. Many guitar slingers rightfully give credit to Leslie as one of their influences......
