That sounds like a really interesting event to attend! Although yes, low beams are a definite risk in old buildings in the Cotswolds! Quite the hazard for tall people... 🤕

Those gorgeous homes are a treat for the eyes. They also remind me of the chocolate and biscuit tins often sold in souvenir shops. Oh Dara I have that too, when I walk on cobbled streets of old or the market squares. I can almost hear the carriage and cart wheels, the horses' hoeves and the footsteps. The history so comes alive. Love the yellow stone, bit like in the south of the Netherlands ( Valkenburg) A natural resource much used to build iconic homes. As a child I was always confused about that saying Ian. An excellent tour of Chipping Campden, with your usual historical research expertly woven with local knowledge into your superb narrative: throroughly compelling viewing! Loved the soundtrack, and the two cameo narrations by Ian, including appropriate biblical reference! (I'm now more sure than ever that it's not Ian's camera-shyness that keeps his pieces to camera so few and so short, but his very high appearance fees! 😜) The whole programme was a nostalgic reminder of a Cotswolds cycle tour that included a stop at Chipping Campden. Yes, Ian's appearances do come at a very high price! But wouldn't he make a nice vicar? hee hee I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Whether on foot, on a bike or in a car... Chipping Campden is a great place to stop by on a tour of the Cotswolds!
Absolutely fabulous, I don’t know why but Campden always seams to play second fiddle to other Cotswold towns and villages , especially Broadway You did a great job showing this stunning town at its best but you could have made a 1/2 video because of its history Campden house was burned down by the Royalists to stop Cromwell getting hold of their headquarters. As it’s so close to the church Cromwell thought the town had been sacked so did not attack it John Fereby helped found Eton Collage and also put money into forming Campden Grammer school , I went with over a 1000 former pupils to the 550 celebration . Hicks , Fereby and Townsend have all be involved with the school and have a house each named after them that the pupils join when going there The Campden wonder is a famous tale of a Tax collectors that went missing and then re appeared , unfortunately not soon enough to save the lives of 2 people who where hung for his murder , because of this there was a legal president that you could not be found guilty of murder without a body being found Robert Dovers games or the Cotswold Olimpicks ( correct spelling ) the forerunner of the modern day Olympics will have its 410 anniversary this May , with its famous shin kicking plus other games , then follows a torch light procession into the Town square with a fair on the Saturday So as you can see no ordinary Cotswold Town , I just love your vids keep them coming
Thanks so much, David! I LOVE hearing all that historical context! I had no idea the "shin kicking games" were REAL!!! wow. I am absolutely drowning in Cotswold content.... I filmed WAY too much last summer! I'm still trying to get my way through it without making 35 minute videos that nobody would watch. I have to take a break from Cotswold vids for next Friday, but then I'll be back the following week with Burford... another beautiful place with interesting Cromwell history! ;-) Cheers! XX Dara

Yet another great video: thank you so much for your posts! I may only rarely comment on them but I do watch them religiously! I don't know this village but my eldest brother lived in Chipping Norton, which is a bit further south, and I love the Cotswolds.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying the Cotswolds series! We spent a bit of time in Chipping Norton as well, but really love Chipping Campden in particular. It has such wonderful history and beauty!
Your comment about not wearing 5 inch heels on cobblestones reminded me of the best bit of social media commentary that I saw recently. One of the journalists (Female!) reporting on the visit made by the Duchess of Cambridge to Copenhagen. Kate and Crown Princess Mary walked across a cobblestone square (little square cobbles, not the big flagstones) both were in high heels, the heels were not only high but also they were pencil thin stillettos! Much admiration was exclaimed from the female readers, 'How do they do it?" Do royal women have training sessions like an obstacle course? First test, walk across cobbles in high heels!
So much history, so much that I am so totally clueless about!! Thank you for all the info you provide in these videos, Dara -- and I know Ian is a big part of that too. Also, you chose some particularly gorgeous music for this one; I really liked it, and it fit so perfectly. 🎶🥰
Thanks so much! I've been working hard on improving my music game... it takes a ton of time, AND a ton of luck... I only sometimes hit it just right ;-)
A lovely video to start the weekend Dara. Thank you for being so informative and appreciative of our country. I'm 57 but I've yet to visit the Cotwolds. I must try to make an effort to see them this year.
Yes, I didn't understand either until I finished the video and had pieced it all together! haha Good on you for noticing! You are a clever one... and very attentive!
I stayed at rose cottage several years..and yes the owners name is rose. It was colder at that ti.e but the lounge always had a fire going and a cup of tea at the ready....
Where to start? My imagination runs wild with thoughts of days past, the market to the breathtaking church and who might have lived in those beautiful thatched roof homes! Great video Dara!! ~Cara 😊
I love imagining the historical days as well. Just so different from where I live in Texas where most of the buildings I see were built in the past 20 years.
You may be interested to know the statues of the dogs at the doorways are Talbot hounds. The Talbot was a type of hunting hound common in England during the Middle Ages. It is depicted in art of the period as small to medium-sized, white in colour, with short legs, large powerful feet, a deep chest with a slender waist, long drooping ears, and a very long curled tail. Unfotunately the breed is now extinct.
I am very interested to hear that! Thanks for the background and description. I will appreciate these statues now even more! So sad that the breed is extinct! I'm going to be doing a video one day about Britons and their dogs... I might have to give this a mention. Cheers! XX Dara
I know Ian is interested in gardens.Did you visit the garden in Chipping Campden dedicated to Ernest Wilson who was born there? He is one of Britain's great explorers, botanists and plant collectors. Several cultivars are named after him.
Hi there!! New friend here and loved your video! Great content on this channel. Love it. Wish you the very best. Would love to stay connected. Much Love from us. God bless you❤️❤️❤️
We are planning our first trip to the Cotswolds for a few days next year and staying in Chipping Campden. Still not sure if we will hire a car or not because we are really nervous to drive. I’m wondering do you think there’s enough to visit and see by foot and public transport from there?
Yes I understand the hesitancy about driving. I actually don't drive when I am in England! There is a lot to explore in Chipping Campden and nearby areas. There are also local buses you can take. And there are also Cotswold tours that you can go on. So you can skip hiring a car if you prefer.
Regarding walking over cobbles in high heels, have you seen the video of Princess Mary of Denmark and the Duchess of Cambridge walk over a cobbled courtyard in Copenhagen wearing stilettos? Okay, the cobbles were not as uneven as those in the market but still pretty impressive. Another interesting video, thank you.
Have you noticed we're emulating your commenting style? DO YOU LOVE IT? Guess we'll end on this one as to not clog up the joint. We think of Dominic West whenever we hear Oliver Cromwell even though they probably look nothing alike. And your Devil's Door make us think of Being John Malkovich. Anyway, this was a lovely tour as always, nobody does it better!
"commenting style" as in leaving loads of comments as you watch the video? Yes, I love it! It's nice as a creator to hear what people think is interesting... and it is always nice to have those "engagement" boosts! Now I just need to get more people to click the LIKE button! Let me know when you figure that one out ;-)
No. I just don't drink coffee, LOL! Seriously, some days are better than others. And I still struggle with jutter that drives me BATS!!!! I thought it was a frame rate issue, but it's not. Bane of my existence, grrrr... But thanks for the compliment!
Ideally BEFORE! That is why I love my videos like Gloucester Cathedral because I researched EVERYTHING before I went. When we were in Cornwall, I just followed along wherever Ian took me with no prior research.... it made the video scripting much more difficult!
Yes, that is always the dilemma... we would love to have the villages all look the way they did in the 1600's with no cars lining the streets and clogging the market square. BUT ... we all want to go visit. A bit of a necessary evil ;-) My husband would say we all need to bike there! haha
Agree! Wouldn't it be nice if they pedestrianised the high street just like they've done in many cities? It would totally enhance the ambience of the town.
Forgot the entertainment 4 pubs all serving good food 2 good hotels You can get Indian , Thai , Greek , Italian and I think French food as well as the traditional English fare
Thanks for the comment! We were racing around that day and didn't get to eat in Chipping, so I really appreciate you mentioning that. as we take friends back to these towns/villages this summer, we shall have to try out some of these places. Would love to have a meal at the Eight Bells on the way to the church ;-) Cheers! XX Dara

John Fereby helped found Eton Collage and also put money into forming Campden Grammer school , I went with over a 1000 former pupils to the 550 celebration . Hicks , Fereby and Townsend have all be involved with the school and have a house each named after them that the pupils join when going there
The Campden wonder is a famous tale of a Tax collectors that went missing and then re appeared , unfortunately not soon enough to save the lives of 2 people who where hung for his murder , because of this there was a legal president that you could not be found guilty of murder without a body being found
Robert Dovers games or the Cotswold Olimpicks ( correct spelling ) the forerunner of the modern day Olympics will have its 410 anniversary this May , with its famous shin kicking plus other games , then follows a torch light procession into the Town square with a fair on the Saturday
So as you can see no ordinary Cotswold Town , I just love your vids keep them coming
I have to take a break from Cotswold vids for next Friday, but then I'll be back the following week with Burford... another beautiful place with interesting Cromwell history! ;-) Cheers! XX Dara
As always you create quality content. We always consider voiceovers, and may try it. Thanks 🙏
Thanks so much for your kind comments, C and D! I have a love/hate relationship with voiceovers, haha! Cheers! XX Dara
With the terrible events unfolding in Ukraine, this was very soothing. Thank you both.
Yes, we are very distressed to hear news of the what's happening in Ukraine! It feels a bit silly to keep publishing my little travel videos... but as I'm not a journalist or commentator, I'll just continue to provide a bit of escapism and a peek at the beauty of the Cotswolds to hopefully cheer us up and help us remain optimistic for better, more peaceful, days ahead! Cheers! XX Dara
@@MagentaOtterTravels More than some Americans, I know that you will appreciate the geographic closeness of these events. Your video's are always welcome, I was not making a derogatory comment, xx
I'm not sure I've seen a cartwheel dip before. Handy!
I had NEVER seen one! Hence I had no idea what it was! haha

It’s a very good thing I’m not a royal! I couldn’t make it 😂
@@MagentaOtterTravels Me either! I'd break an ankle!
those stained glass windows are remarkable!
Yes indeed! They aren't ancient, but definitely elaborate and gorgeous. And heavy!
I only sometimes hit it just right ;-)
I agree, Dara, you did a great job with the music!
A lovely video to start the weekend Dara. Thank you for being so informative and appreciative of our country. I'm 57 but I've yet to visit the Cotwolds. I must try to make an effort to see them this year.
Yes, you should! Because they are gorgeous. THIS 57 year old will be there again... showing her friends around ;-)
Beautiful 🤝🇹🇳🌿💐🌸🌷
Thanks 🌷
"A dressing up box for the grown up lady" sounds so FANCY. If Jen ever grows up, she'll finally be allowed in!
She is a young lady now... go on in! ;-)
I was wondering why the pub, you showed earlier in the video, was called "Eight Bells" Now I understand.... 👍
Yes, I didn't understand either until I finished the video and had pieced it all together! haha
Good on you for noticing! You are a clever one... and very attentive!
Glad to see you edited out the inside of the gents wc 😬 😉
I only included the door so that the Americans would know what "Public Convenience" meant!!! LOL
I stayed at rose cottage several years..and yes the owners name is rose. It was colder at that ti.e but the lounge always had a fire going and a cup of tea at the ready....
That sounds so lovely! Thanks for commenting so we all know about it.👍 Cheers! Dara ( your rhyming friend 😉)
I guess we need to make some "Chipping" videos instead of "Market" videos. So cool to see a phone box that still works.
Yes! Get to England for some Chipping videos! And eat some Chips whilst you are there!! ;-)
Cheers! XX Dara
You can also find English pubs named after the Talbot hound too. eg The Talbot Inn etc
LOL very ironic. That pigeon didn’t know the rules 🤣
Must have been an illiterate pigeon. Or a rebellious one! haha
@@MagentaOtterTravels 😂🤣
I know Ian is interested in gardens.Did you visit the garden in Chipping Campden dedicated to Ernest Wilson who was born there? He is one of Britain's great explorers, botanists and plant collectors. Several cultivars are named after him.
No I'm afraid we didn't get to that one!
@@MagentaOtterTravels A very small garden but very interesting.
Check him out on Google, he died in Massachusetts. A fascinating life.
@@jillhobson6128 wow that is interesting!
Hi there!! New friend here and loved your video! Great content on this channel. Love it. Wish you the very best. Would love to stay connected. Much Love from us. God bless you❤️❤️❤️
Thanks 🙏
@ Ian Great choice to quote Mark 10:25
Wouldn't Ian make a great vicar? ;-)
So you can skip hiring a car if you prefer.
their is also chipping norton chipping sodbury chipping walden
So many chippings! I did film some of Norton but not the others. Yet ;-)
Ian’s right about Oliver Cromwell.Although I’d use stronger language. Thanks you two.
Yes, he has harsher things to say off camera. Keeping my channel family friendly ;-)
What?!?!? I’m first?!?! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Haha, this comment when into my spam/held for review folder! I'm glad you were first Theresa ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels lol I have to remember not to comment immediately but it was so tempting!
Such a great town!! Beautiful building!! The home with the dogs is so amazing!! Have to put this on the list of places we have to visit!!
It really is spectacular! I hope you get to visit ❤️🏴.
Cheers! Dara
I would be hopeless! I can no longer walk on a nice flat floor in high heels... I'm not as young as I used to be ;-)
Have you noticed we're emulating your commenting style? DO YOU LOVE IT? Guess we'll end on this one as to not clog up the joint. We think of Dominic West whenever we hear Oliver Cromwell even though they probably look nothing alike. And your Devil's Door make us think of Being John Malkovich. Anyway, this was a lovely tour as always, nobody does it better!
"commenting style" as in leaving loads of comments as you watch the video? Yes, I love it! It's nice as a creator to hear what people think is interesting... and it is always nice to have those "engagement" boosts! Now I just need to get more people to click the LIKE button! Let me know when you figure that one out ;-)
So with Mr Grevel there has been an influencer in Chipping Campden before you 😁....but you are way more amazing!!!
Haha, but he was way more wealthy! (Adjusting for inflation of course 😀 )
I love the way your filming is so smooth - no jerkiness at all! Do you use a tripod?
No. I just don't drink coffee, LOL!
Seriously, some days are better than others. And I still struggle with jutter that drives me BATS!!!! I thought it was a frame rate issue, but it's not. Bane of my existence, grrrr... But thanks for the compliment!
Do you do your research before going to a place or after you've found the place ?
Ideally BEFORE! That is why I love my videos like Gloucester Cathedral because I researched EVERYTHING before I went. When we were in Cornwall, I just followed along wherever Ian took me with no prior research.... it made the video scripting much more difficult!
@@MagentaOtterTravels I guess that it's a bit annoying when you get there and the place is closed 😡
love chipping Campden, shame about the parked cars on the street.
Forgot the entertainment
4 pubs all serving good food 2 good hotels
You can get Indian , Thai , Greek , Italian and I think French food as well as the traditional English fare
XX Dara
Try saying "Countless Cotswolds" 5 times fast!
I get tongue tied all the time! Thank goodness for editing! ha ha
But what if the Needles was off the coast of the IOW, and the man was rich in knowledge or wealth of experience 🤔
Another obscure reference by our friend, Eric ;-) I'm going to assume that was a rhetorical question... haha
@@MagentaOtterTravels it's in response to what Ian said about a camel through a needle / rich man in heaven
@@wencireone I understood that part, I just didn’t know enough about the Isle of Wight! But Ian was just telling me about the record-breaking winds recorded at the Needles during the recent storm Eunice.
anybody else see Chewbacca in that altar hanging? 😂
Had to go back and re-watch... nope, not seeing. I think you have a vivid imagination! Or maybe the force just isn't with me ;-)
I thought "Heaven is a Place on Earth"
Perhaps Belinda and the Bible differ on this topic.
@@MagentaOtterTravels 🤣🤣👍🙏
Maybe it is a Scottish pigeon, who wants to mark his protest!! 😂
You never know... could be!
At least with a devil's door you'll know which way is North
