I know it's weird, cause you kind of know they are coming, so they only half surprise you. But watching him get surprised full, takes you back. Its like nostalgia in a bottle.
The scene where Michael Caine takes out Dr Evils henchmen is one of the funniest scenes I've ever watched. "Just fall down over there son". Man such a great and hilarious trilogy that holds up even today.
"His farger!? What is that!? His papa, his old his man, his dad! Oh his father!! Ok, but next time, Goldmemeber, just to let you know, I don't speak freaky deaky Dutch." Lol!!
Always wish we had gotten one more... My aunt loved these movies and would have the family laughing using similar humor. Always think of her when I watch them. Miss her
I know it's not the most popular opinion but for me Goldmember was by far the best of the trilogy...the density of hilarious jokes and quotes feels so much higher here, it's just a string of hilarious clips which almost seemlessly lead to the next hilarious clip. I bought the soundtrack to this movie when I was little and played it on loop in the car during a family vacation, never got sick of it. I like to think I'm well cultured.
I went to see James Bond's SPECTRE back when it was first released with a friend who's a HUGE Bond fan and he got really mad at me because when the movie * SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT * reveals that Bloefeld and Bond grew up as brothers and it's supposed to be this huge twist to underscore their enmity, I couldn't help but laugh and exclaim, "Just like Austin Powers and Dr. Evil in "Goldmember"!"
The sumo bath scene where you were wondering how do they come up with those ideas, that one was actually based on a scene in the Bond movie Live and Let Die when Bond does a similar sprint on back of crocodiles to escape an island.
Bobby Scott wrote it for Kelly Gordon who recorded it first then soon covered by the Hollies and Neil Diamond. All versions offer a different flavor but are still phenomenal
Mike Meyers was working on a fourth movie but there's been zero talk about it since Mini Me actor Vern Troyes passed away. I would love to see a fourth and would love to see Warwick Davis cast as Austin Powers Mini Me, Peter Dinklage cast as the new main villain Mini Mastermind who would also have a big version of himself who's all brawn no brain and also played by Peter Dinklage using CGI. And since multiverse and variants are so popular right now, they could bring in alternate versions or variants of Dr Evil and other characters we know. Do it Mike Meyers!
Nah, just let it die man. These aren't bad ideas on paper but they would completely fuck it up in reality.. It's the perfect trilogy as it is and that's how it should stay. Hollywood is in desperate need of originality not more sequels, reboots, remakes and remasters.
I suppose it's the recycled jokes a bit, Goldmember not being that interesting or funny of a villain and when Mini-me becomes Austin-Mini-me that's when I feel they were just forcing things a bit. But don't get me wrong I still like this movie a lot and I think the intro is probably one of the best intros of all time
The director wants to do a 4th movie but they've been having trouble getting a good enough script. Like you said im sure they don't want to recycle the same jokes again. I do hope for a 4th movie someday though. I love this trilogy. ❤ great reaction too!
I watched this movie 3 nights in a row at the Lebanon, Oregon, Drive In. Then they tore it down over the winter and built a super Walmart in it's place.
Austin jumping on the sumo's bellies is a reference to Live & Let Die when 007 jumps on aligator's backs to get to safety. The mini me fight is from The Man with the Golden Gun when Bond fights Nicknack, the midget butler who is throwing bottles at him. Scott Evil's transformation is a reference to Woody Allen who played Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the Casino Royale parody film in 1967.
YAY!! Ever since you watched the first 'instalment' I so hoped you'd continue with them just so I get to see you react to those phenomenal cameos at the beginning of the third one. I was not disappointed, Brandon ;) Thanks for that.
Mike Myers has been planning to write a fourth Austin Powers movie for nearly 20 years. It may still happen, as director Jay Roach has said he wants to make another one. I recommend watching the James Bond and Harry Palmer spy films, if you want to see some of the source material that the Austin Powers series is spoofing.
The “Scotty does?!?!” in such a sweet voice when Dr. Evil is talking to Frau in the jail always cracks me up, a hilarious continuation of the “Scotty don’t!” joke😂
Michael Caine, in the mid-sixties, played a spy in a few movies whose name is Harry. the spy, not the movies. He actually invented the character in his superb portrayal as a brutal sexy spy.
The fact that this movie is nearly twenty years old really makes me feel old even at 24 going on 25. Parents were really weird with what they would allow me to watch, so i have seen this trilogy a whole bunch
The reaction to the opening cameos is literally how everyone felt when this first came out lol everyone was screaming and pointing like “holy sht! Tom cruise!” Lmfao
That cut to a Travolta cameo could be a reference to 'Get shorty' a movie with Travolta in the main role, I really liked it, you might wanna check it out.
Some comedy trilogies are, The Naked Gun, Cornetto Trilogy, The Hangover, Major League, Bill and Ted, and I consider Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Semi Pro to be a trilogy
yea, as you said at the end, you'd think movies would get worse after each one in the series, but they got better. I did watch all 3 and I also find it weird that I like the last one the most, but that's how it worked out I guess.
The Austin Powers trilogy is pretty unique for being consistently funny throughout. But then there's Mel Brooks, very well known for producing/directing/writing many films of consistently high quality. Okay they weren't sequels, but they were clearly very similar humour not only to each other but even to this (parody/fourth wall breaks) sometimes also with added heavy stigma confronting comedy like in Blazing Saddles. Anyway, I'd consider his work to be 'something' like a string of sequels, _after a fashion'._
A few channel goers are giving me grief for continually requesting Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me To Hell.” I don’t think these folks are in step with this channel. They, in turn, think I’m out of my mind and have “terrible taste.” I’m not backing off. I’m convinced Brandon would thoroughly enjoy DMTH. No doubt in my mind. Can’t wait to see his reaction. 😈
29:36 The new Kristen Wiig comedy 'Barb & Star go to Vista Del Mar' is actually inspired by Mike Myers' comedy classics, probably the closest thing we'll get to these types of movies for a while since Myers is semi-retired.
I thought he may have meant spoofs when he said that, because comedies are still a thing. We haven't had a good spoof for a while. Fantasy seems like a good candidate considering the popularity of lord of the rings, game of thrones, harry potter
@@BrianNIL Ah, could be. I was thinking more of a particular style of comedy where the gags are the main focus as opposed to plot. Friedberg and Seltzer killed the spoof genre dead, unfortunately.
George Harrison from The Beatles wrote his last letter, shortly before his death in Los Angeles, to Meyers and Spielberg thanking the appreciation for Liverpool and sharing his love towards this movie. Allegedly one of the last things Harrison got when alive was a Dr. Evil doll.
I love how they spoofed Sean Connery fighting the Sumo wrestler and Roger Moore running across the backs of the crocodiles in one scene. Another series that repeats gags but stays funny is the Police Academy franchise.
Idk why but the “oh I thought I smelled cabbage” joke is so random and funny. I know it’s a callback to something Austin said in the first one but without knowing that, it’s just a great random humor moment
