This movie captures the magic of playing with your friends when you’re a kid like no other. Even the relatable ending, where some of the kids go their separate ways as time moves on, except for a few that stay lifelong friends.
@@prttyktty60129 I did said I believe but I just checked and I was wrong, not sure why I thought there was a fourth movie, I just remembered really loving the first and second movies
I love how whenever they were scared of the dog, they showed like a fake dog like a puppet dog that was terrifying, that’s how the kids depiction of it, and then when they actually get to meet Mr. Myrtle, and actually get to meet the dog to be nice, it turns into a very regular sweet dog. I just like how they gave that perspective
Totally agree; I only realized watching it as an adult how many details are purposely exaggerated to really bring you into that perspective of a kid. Like, when the Beast is growling and shaking the fence, he was probably just barking but from their perspective, they were like "Oh man, I SWEAR he barked so loud the fence SHOOK!" Really amazing filmmaking; I forgot how much I love this movie!
The firework scene was really telling. Every kid was so captivated by the fireworks that they stopped but then you had Benny who was so committed to the game that he kept playing
Hell yeah! This brings nothing but smiles, from growing up with a baseball field across the street from me, the beautiful female life guard to " America the beautiful " ray charles Hits harder EVERY year. Such a CLASSIC
Same. Definitely one that hasn't had the spotlight. " the outsiders is starting to get some attention. Just hope when ( brandon likes movies reacts ) it is the original version. And not the extended novel version
My friends and I once had a heated argument whether or not this was considered one of the great childhood movies. None of them agreed with me that it deserved that title. I still think I'm right.
Funny thing is, I was the complete opposite. My parents got me an English mastiff when I was 10 years old and he was the absolute best dog in history. Named him Duke, short for The Duke of Lone Star. Ended up having to put him down when I was 19. Sure do miss him.
I watched this with my dad years back. He watched with amazement because he grew up in the time the movie is set and recognized so many things from when he was 10 or so. A great watch for a father and son. Especially when it is an accurate depiction of your dad's childhood.
I did this with my dad as well. He had just had a quadruple bypass and was in the later stages of his recovery. We watched this and it was the first time he really smiled since surgery. He has always had this thing where he tried to find inaccuracies in period movies from his day. Like the light switches on the walls and door knobs being in the wrong time…. He said this one was almost perfect.
My favorite movie when I was a kid. It made me think Converse turned you into a speedster and consider drowning myself whenever I saw a cute lifeguard at the water park for like 4 years after.
I knew someone who would say to me, “You’re killing me, Smalls!’ I didn’t know what that meant. He finally told me it was from this movie. Like you said, you can see it at any age, and it’s still great. You feel their camaraderie even if your childhood was diff.
That speech from the mom about how he should run around, get dirty, scrape his knees and get into trouble is the exact thing I'd expect Marion Ravenwood to say to her kid. At least she didn't tell him to get into a drinking contest.
Being an avid baseball player growing up playing in my neighborhood 11:42 - 12:02 is one of my favorite scenes in cinema and why I always watch this movie on or around July 4th. Ray Charles’ America the beautiful makes it perfection.
My family had a English mastiff growing up and he was named Hercules after this film, needless to say this is a favorite of my family, glad to see you react to it Brandon!
Another good summer film or more appropriately “end of summer” film is “Stand By Me” the film takes place over Labor Day weekend... a good coming of age story.
I think honestly Benny feels sorry for smalls how he's the new kid in the neighborhood and he's probably remembering how he was like that and it wasn't till he met the Sandlot crew that he finally got friends.
14:30 Benny (Mike Vitar) is in Mighty Ducks 2 & 3 as Luis. Kenny DeNunez (Brandon Quintin Adams) played Jesse Hall in The Mighty Ducks. So safe to say you should watch the Mighty Ducks Trilogy
The beast is in fact a Mastiff dog. It's one of the most family-loving dog breed there are and are known for being incredibly nice and gentle with kids, excellent house-guarding and loving creatures. I happened to own two females and my cousins adopted two males from the same litter. Saddet days of my life when they left me. These dogs change your life. Also, while very athletic (It easily could jump our Two-meter high fence), they enjoy to play, which is why it was a perfect choice for this movie.

My friends were 14 and tried a couple bandits each that we found in my friends dad’s car, and we had never had tobaccos alcohol or anything at this point in our lives. Right after we took them we went out swimming and body surfing at Salt Creek beach. We were all good swimmers and surfers, etc but once we got out past the break it hit. The waves were probably only five feet that day but it may have well been 15. We didn’t really swim back in it was more like just tumbling in. Seriously sucked. So going on a spinning ride like those kids would be horrible. I already get sick on spinning rides, I can’t imagine being on tobacco for the first time. That’s all part of being a kid I guess, you out yourself in dumb ass situations sometimes, just the way it is. Or was. Watching the 4th of July sequence for the first time was one of the first times I thought that movies could mean more than just laughs. It showed cinematography, score, and story all in one.
This is another of those nostalgic, childhood films that every kid should have the opportunity to know. There are so many life-lesson and social-ethics themes that movies like The Sandlot, or Stand By Me and other similar films convey in an uplifting, constructive manner.
I grew up watching this movie and remember being so scared of The Beast, and every time I get to finally see it in all it's glory, it's just a normal English Mastiff, and I'm like, "Oh yeah, obviously it's not actually a super sized monster."
Two recommendations came to mind while watching this, 1) Stand By Me (1986), and 2) Field of Dreams (1989). Field of Dreams because of the baseball theme even though it's a movie where actual baseball play isn't really what it's about. But baseball as an American past-time is definitely a theme and motivator for the plot. Stand By Me because of the similarly of the story being told about the character's past, his childhood. I feel like The Sandlot (1993) was definitely influenced by Stand By Me in the way it chose to tell its story.
For more James Earl Jones and Baseball, you gotta watch Field of Dreams. Actually, Art LaFleur, who plays Babe Ruth in The Sandlot is also in Field of Dreams as a different historical ballplayer.
This is such a surprising reaction to one one my favorite childhood movies. everything from the music to the characters, to the heart felt moments in the movie just feel so special to me. This is my go to sports movie of all time!!!!!!! Thank you Brandon the GOAT!!!!!
Haven't seen this movie for years but it's nice that it holds up so well, even for people first seeing it as adults. Compared to the Goonies the more grounded story is just easier to believe and it really invokes those childhood summers perfectly
This was up there, as some one mentioned Field of Dreams has a special place for me personally. Major league was great watching as a kid. There was a couple others that were great as well, we were we lucky as kids.
I could t begin to tell you how many times my kids watched this movie growing up. Now their kids watch it. “You’re killing me smalls” is a staple in our family vernacular. Wonderful movie. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
This is my favorite movie of all time, really glad people voted for it! I hope you enjoyed it. If you have not seen this do yourself a favor and watch it and then come back here. Every scene is fun and interesting and the music is fantastic, Brandon obviously has to cut out a bunch of great parts and can't show most of the music moments for his reaction so still give it a watch even if you have had the end spoiled. Porter (the ginger catcher) was in a couple other childrens films, the one I remember loving as a child (still like as an adult but its no sandlot) was "The Big Green". Another movie people may love to see reactions to because of the nostalgia.
Heres a fan theory for you... Omg this movie is right up there with the goonies! You just can’t help but watch it when it comes on tv. “Holes” is another good movie along these lines of story telling.
My great uncle actually would go hunting with Babe Ruth. According to him they randomly met hunting and after that continued to go out together, eventually Babe tried to buy his hunting dogs but he refused to sell.

There is also a "Sandlot 2" movie set ten years later... Same sandlot, different kids and a great updated modern story, although a few original familiar faces do return in the second movie.
I have 4 daughters who are now in their 30s, they were into track and soccer not so much into baseball, but also all about having lots of fun with their buddies. This was and remains one of their favorite movies.
I think the progression is Stand By Me > The Goonies > The Sandlot. All great films, but certainly on a spectrum. A Christmas Story is in the middle of those nostalgia films too.
Great childhood movie for anyone who grew up playing ball in a sandlot/grass field. Benny is a legendary character, but we all wanted to be Squints with Wendy ;)
Benny Rodriguez is one of the best, most wholesome characters of all time, especially for kids who didn't have many friends growing up.

There is also a "Sandlot 2" movie set ten years later... Same sandlot, different kids and a great updated modern story, although a few original familiar faces do return in the second movie.
and the sandlot 3 in 2007.
Classic movie…would love to see Brandon react to Heavyweights with Ben Stiller
I'm so happy you watched this. This is my favorite childhood movie.
The Sandlot and Rookie of The Year are two of my favourite childhood films and i’m from England where neither are that well known compared to the US.
Did he say "Funky butt-loving"?

this actually brought tears to my eyes. thanks man, its been over two decades since i watched this.
Thank you for watching this. It's nostalgic for me. I had it on VHS and watch well over a hundred times as a kid. Everyone wanted a friend like Benny.
Sandlot is definitely one of my all time favorite childhood moviej
Scariest dog in the history of film? I think Cujo still holds that title
One of the most nostalgically epic feel good movies for summertime and remembering one's own past playing baseball with friends. ❤ ⚾ 👍
Great childhood movie for anyone who grew up playing ball in a sandlot/grass field. Benny is a legendary character, but we all wanted to be Squints with Wendy ;)
My favorite movie growing up! So nostalgic. I’ve watched it as an adult, but probably not in the past decade.
