The fact that at some point in the movie, Robert Downey Jr, an American actor, played the role of an Australian method actor, playing the role of an African-American soldier, disguised as a Vietnamese farmer... As a black man I 100% support Tropic Thunder and love this movie. Robert Downey Jr was hilarious in his role and is playing a white blonde hair blue eyed Australian actor who thinks it’s ok to do black face. Totally different than casting a white actor in a black role, or a white actor trying to pass as black. We know the character is white and are introduced to him as white. The comedy is that he thinks it’s ok because he’s a crazy idiotic actor and wants to dive into a role and Jr plays it perfectly. Definitely deserved his Oscar nom.
@@quick2bud You forgot the part where RDJ is already playing a dude. He is "a dude playing a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude, pretending to be another dude".
"I want fat hands, and I'm gonna dance." Tom Cruise said this to Ben Stiller when he was asked to play the part. Stiller was just like "What?" but immediately understood what he was going for when Stiller added the background music to him dancing.

I was scrolling through my feed looking for a video to watch, complaining that there were no good options, and then your video popped up! Such perfect timing! ❤️❤️
One of my childhood favorite movie they honestly need to make something close to this. And when Robert Downey jr was asked about black face in this movie he said it wasn’t him. He was playing the Australian actor playing black face. Smart way around the question.
I believe Ben Stiller decided the movie based on actors claiming that going to the actor's Boot Camp was the same as regular Boot Camp. He had ideas concerning actors having PTSD flashbacks to remember that they didn't have catering. This is also one of the best parodies to be made in... forever. And Robert Downey, Jr. was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Tropic Thunder. He lost to Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight. I think Tropic Thunder would be a fantastic double feature with Galaxy Quest. If you haven't seen that... dude, by Grapthar's Hammer...
Fake Black Man: What do ya mean, "you people?" Real Black Man: What do YOU mean, "you people?" Gotta love this movie for its balls in handling such delicate topics! There's no subtlety, but at the same time, it's not insensitive to the real issue. RDJ is playing an actor who is a racially-insensitive asshole and it doesn't sugarcoat that. He's a fancy-pants knobend who thinks his acting career allows him to fuck with racial stereotypes and that's why its so fucking hilarious. We're supposed to laugh at him, not with him.
I feel people just didn't get it, how clever Last Action Hero was. The trailers made it seem like a pretty generic action movie, and It also was against Jurassic Park at a time when people seemed to go to one movie a season and no more.
Wow, it's funny that you picked up on Tom Cruise immediately-- his involvement was kept very secret until the premiere. Back in '08, most people in the theatre were completely unaware that it was him under that makeup and fat suit until his name appeared in the end credits... needless to say, our minds were completely blown. But then again, it's so obvious that it was his voice, mannerisms and facial features. Kinda unbelievable that many of us didn't recognize him. But yea, surprised to see this movie being reacted to. Enjoyed this very much! Also, some legendary comedies to watch are: Mike Judge's OFFICE SPACE Mike Judge's IDIOCRACY (watch after Office Space) - -basically Mike Judge predicting our current society back in 2006 TOOTSIE BLAZING SADDLES SOME LIKE IT HOT THE APARTMENT The latter 4 were nominated for and won multiple Oscars.

Search up some Tom Cruise interviews about this movie. Ben sent the script to him just to get his feedback about it. Tom came up with the entire story line of his character. He said the producer role was missing from the story. He came up with the idea for the fat hands, bald head and dancing. Very creative!
This is a comedy with an exceptionally great cast/performances. Downey is the obvious (he got a much deserved Oscar nomination for the role), Cruise is the real shock performance, but I'm gonna throw some love in for Matthew McConaughey. He was hysterical and on point as the suck up agent doing anything for his client. You must see Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. One of the best clever comedies of the 2000's, and Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer are a fantastic duo in it.
You should watch A Fish Called Wanda, one of the funniest films I've ever seen, and a rare case of an actor actually winning an Oscar for a purely comedic role.
I remember going to go see The Dark Knight for the 3rd time and my brother saying to watch Tropic Thunder instead. I’m glad we decided to see it. Everyone in the theater was laughing so hard. One of the best theater experiences, I’ve ever had.
hell yeah, cause if i remember correctly he wasn't listed in the trailer when it first came out, i remember just going to see it on a whim, boy was I glad I went.
4:00, a spoof of the movie, Platoon! Lol! THAT movie won 4 Oscars including Best Picture. Its based on true events on Director Oliver Stones Military Career in Vietnam.
@@deg1studios In addition to Platoon, there are also multiple satirical references to Apocalypse Now ("fast movers" & washing his head right before he says he is "already home"), Hamburger Hill (guts hanging out & "ain't nothing but a thing"), and Hearts of Darkness (a "making of" documentary about Apocalypse Now - ref Tropic Blunder). I wonder if Brandon has ever watched any of these classic war movies.
Lately the most memorable thing about this movie is some guy tweeting that he scoured the internet looking for an apology from RDJ and was appalled that he hadn't for doing "black face". Makes me love the movie even more.
One of the last great theatrical comedies. We've gone through a dry spell the last 5 years or so!! Also, you should watch Barry with Bill Hader. One of the best shows on TV currently
When Ben stiller came to talk to Tom cruise about his role Tom was like I’m down but I want fat hands and I want to dance lol there is an interview of him talking about it pretty hilarious
I always saw the characters as: Tugg- the action star who wants to be serious, but doesn't really know how. When he tries, it's a miss Kirk- the method actor who believes they can play ANY character (no matter race, gender, sexuality) without repercussions Jeff- the comedian who wants to be taken seriously, but isn't because he's supposed to be the "funny man" Alpha- the musician/rapper who's trying to get into acting, could also be there to promote something of his/her's Kevin- the wide-eyed newbie actor who's excited to be in Hollywood and does everything right (reads the script, learns the history, etc.), but realizes that the more seasoned actors don't do the same It's a really interesting take on how Hollywood is while also making fun of them too. The whole cancel culture thing that happened earlier this year was really stupid and shows how most of my generation (gen-z) looks for things to be mad at without really looking at the whole picture.
If you want to react to some comedy you have to bring the Mel Brooks: - Blazing Saddles - Young Frankenstein - Space Balls. * not to imply that this wasn't great. Fantastic movie.

26:15 - We all thought the same thing during this final scene. XD Actually, Tom Cruise wasn't billed in the cast during the publicity leading up to its release. He was fine with it. Turned out to be a total shocker to see him (like THAT) when people went to see the movie. Hahaha Yes, that's really RDJ's voice. I'm pretty sure Ben Stiller wrote the movie. He tends to write all his own movies and direct them and star in them. Ben Stiller's movies are always "high production quality" comedies. My favorite "trilogy" of his has to be Zoolander, Dodgeball, and Tropic Thunder. If you haven't seen the other two, you should seriously put them in the poll, those should be mandatory viewing. LOL
I loved this movie so much, I bought it. It is so surprising and nicely done like you said. It's comedic genius, with a good story line and great actors that fit and played their parts perfectly.
It’s a very unique film. They couldn't even come close to making something like this nowadays. The jokes wouldn't land as well, they wouldn't get the funding and it would most likely ruin many careers. It has so many iconic lines, iconic performances and mocks so many films.
Of all the great comedies, I'm glad you watched this one. It's so funny! This movie is (to me) the comedy equivalent to Scream. I love it so much. I think Ben Stiller is so talented and yes, Robert Downey Jr TOTALLY stole the show in this one. Honestly, I loved all the characters, essentially Danny McBride's character. He's hilarious! And Nick Nolte was just the icing on the cake. I recommend this to anyone who loves comedies. As a movie lover, this is in my top favorites.

Yeah, Robert D Jr was freakin' phenomenal in this.
Some movies to consider (if you haven't watched them yet): "Tombstone," "Good Morning Vietnam," "3:10 to Yuma (2007)," "True Grit (2010)," "The Big Lebowski," "Kingpin," "Unforgiven," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," "Apollo 13."
Yes! True Grit is fantastic! A great film by the Coens that you could take your daughter to for some true female empowerment.
@@andrewreisinger6860 I would love for him to watch Good Morning Vietnam and the Big Lebowski
YEEESSSSS He should watch Tombstone for sure. It’s such a good movie.
I was scrolling through my feed looking for a video to watch, complaining that there were no good options, and then your video popped up! Such perfect timing! ❤️❤️
Great timing indeed 😁 hope you enjoy!
And then he went back to Ethan Hunt to varying degrees of success.
"A Fish Called Wanda" (1988) would be a great comedy movie for your channel. Kevin Kline was not only nominated for an Oscar, he actually won!
I always forget he won for that! Such a good movie.
True story, I saw this movie like 3 times before I realized that was Tom Cruise🤣🤣🤣
Haha nice 😂
I saw the end credit tom cruise name pop up and asked, when was tom cruise part not realizing hes dancing on the screen hahahaha
That's how I felt about Interview with a Vampire. I didn't realize it was him. In my defense I was young.
This movie was one of the funniest to come out of the 2000s. 2008 to be exact. And yeah that year was awesome when it came to movies.
The only time a TiVo actually did something meaningful.
😂
Kiss kiss bang bang is the intelligent underrated beginning of rdj’s comeback. So entertaining and funny.
Yeah, I love that movie. There’s a great supporting performance by Val Kilmer, too.
Such a fun movie..Glad you’re doing this
You also need to watch Apocalypse Now & Platoon now. So many inside jokes referencing those movies here..
Fake Black Man: What do ya mean, "you people?"
Real Black Man: What do YOU mean, "you people?"
Gotta love this movie for its balls in handling such delicate topics!
Gross its a fuccking movie, i don't MAD at white people play NATIVE AMERICAN's
RAcist mind
The introduction of the "actors" always reminds me of Last Action Hero. I think that movie is underrated.
hell yea people hated on it
I feel people just didn't get it, how clever Last Action Hero was. The trailers made it seem like a pretty generic action movie, and It also was against Jurassic Park at a time when people seemed to go to one movie a season and no more.
Great movie!
“Is that what Christoper McQuirre has to do with him on the M:I movies”
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YO STOP
I'm just here for the Les Grossman reaction.
If you haven’t seen it I’d recommend Pineapple Express
GARBAGE
@@Rathanatosis trippinggg
Stupid weed movie. Big Lebowski on the other hand is amazing
@@futurereflections4097 that’s just like your opinion man
Oh man Tropic Thunder is one of my all time favorite comedies.I love the absurdity of it all. Burn After Reading is another great one.
Also, some legendary comedies to watch are:
Mike Judge's OFFICE SPACE
Mike Judge's IDIOCRACY (watch after Office Space) - -basically Mike Judge predicting our current society back in 2006
TOOTSIE
BLAZING SADDLES
SOME LIKE IT HOT
THE APARTMENT
The latter 4 were nominated for and won multiple Oscars.
Thanks so much for all the recommendations!
@@BrandonLikesMovies Oh, also GROUNDHOG DAY and THE ODD COUPLE (the original 1968 movie, not the TV series).
You’re are literally the best reactor I’ve ever seen on RUclips and you choose literally ALL my favorite movies, this is literally on my top 5 favorite comedies
That means a lot Austin! So glad you're enjoying the videos 😁
He thanked you Austin, literally!
I would recommend "Crazy, Stupid, Love" for comedy, such a hilarious movie!
Saw that a long time ago and remember liking it! Need to revisit it
Along those lines of the rom com you also have The Five Year Engagement
@@ColinPoole I hated that film.. maybe I need to watch it again.
I remember going to go see The Dark Knight for the 3rd time and my brother saying to watch Tropic Thunder instead. I’m glad we decided to see it. Everyone in the theater was laughing so hard. One of the best theater experiences, I’ve ever had.
When this was in theaters a lot of people didn’t know that was Tom Cruise until the end credits
Which is odd because his voice is do noticeable
@@paulelroy6650 which I did pointed out when I watch the movie the first time, but I thought nah it couldn't be Tom.
hell yeah, cause if i remember correctly he wasn't listed in the trailer when it first came out, i remember just going to see it on a whim, boy was I glad I went.
I was one of those people.
I find it very hard to believe anybody was that stupid.
Didn't catch Tom Cruise was playing Harvey Weinstein "Grossman"
He was actually paying a futuristic version of the ex NFL QB Rex Grossman.
He was awesome in this. I didn't even recognize him at first. Over all just a great performance by the entire cast.
4:00, a spoof of the movie, Platoon! Lol! THAT movie won 4 Oscars including Best Picture. Its based on true events on Director Oliver Stones Military Career in Vietnam.
ah shit Platoon is so good man
@@deg1studios In addition to Platoon, there are also multiple satirical references to Apocalypse Now ("fast movers" & washing his head right before he says he is "already home"), Hamburger Hill (guts hanging out & "ain't nothing but a thing"), and Hearts of Darkness (a "making of" documentary about Apocalypse Now - ref Tropic Blunder). I wonder if Brandon has ever watched any of these classic war movies.
Robert Downey Jr. - to quote the movie - “Should have got Oscar.”
Heath ledger won the oscar that year.
Lately the most memorable thing about this movie is some guy tweeting that he scoured the internet looking for an apology from RDJ and was appalled that he hadn't for doing "black face". Makes me love the movie even more.
This might be my favorite reaction of yours so far. My cousins and I used to have the whole movie memorized as kids we loved this movie so much
IM THE DUDE PLAYING THE DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE!! LOL!
The only thing that makes that line even better is that he is a dude playing the dude that says that line.
One of the last great theatrical comedies. We've gone through a dry spell the last 5 years or so!! Also, you should watch Barry with Bill Hader. One of the best shows on TV currently
Barry is also another great show for 'inside jokes' about acting.
When Ben stiller came to talk to Tom cruise about his role Tom was like I’m down but I want fat hands and I want to dance lol there is an interview of him talking about it pretty hilarious
You should react to “This Is The End”
And Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. The Cornetto Trilogy!
Yesssssss one of my favorite movies ever!!’ Especially if you like celeb cameos.
NO F THAT! react to the world's end
That movie makes me laugh so damn much.
I suggest you watch sherlock holmes. RDJ's acting there was great too.
Seen both of his Sherlocks! Hope they make a 3rd
I always saw the characters as:
Tugg- the action star who wants to be serious, but doesn't really know how. When he tries, it's a miss
Kirk- the method actor who believes they can play ANY character (no matter race, gender, sexuality) without repercussions
Jeff- the comedian who wants to be taken seriously, but isn't because he's supposed to be the "funny man"
Alpha- the musician/rapper who's trying to get into acting, could also be there to promote something of his/her's
Kevin- the wide-eyed newbie actor who's excited to be in Hollywood and does everything right (reads the script, learns the history, etc.), but realizes that the more seasoned actors don't do the same
It's a really interesting take on how Hollywood is while also making fun of them too. The whole cancel culture thing that happened earlier this year was really stupid and shows how most of my generation (gen-z) looks for things to be mad at without really looking at the whole picture.
Danny Devito callsigns I LOVE how you do that I swear its gold.
This movie is golden, its timeless and can never be canceled.
If you want to react to some comedy you have to bring the Mel Brooks:
- Blazing Saddles
- Young Frankenstein
- Space Balls.
* not to imply that this wasn't great. Fantastic movie.
Now Blazing Saddles is a film that could NEVER EVER be made again. That was a one shot deal. lol.
Space balls needs to happen so bad “COMB THE DESERT”
@@theoriginalfluff5317 "When will then be now?": "Soon"
Blazing Saddles, hell yes. Easily the wildest comedy ever put to film.
My recommended Comedy: "The Big Lebowski".
One of my favorite comedies, with a great story, is A Fish Called Wanda. Hilarious.
i'm seriously impressed you recognized it was Cruise off the bat. i didn't realize it was him until the credits rolled, then the light went off above my head, lol.
Something About Mary is a great comedy. It's a Ben Stiller movie.
That movie is hilarious
not directed by or writing
@@lewlew873 He wrote Tropic Thunder and the Zoolander movies. He directed Reality Bites, Cable Guy, Zoolanders, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I recommend Mitty if you haven't seen it.
Here´s a thought, if you think you haven´t seen that many high quality comedies I highly recommend you watching Stanley Kubrick´s "Dr. Strangelove" starring the great Peter Sellers.
It is a great absurdist, Cold War film. I remember watching it in high school back in 1990 when we were covering the Cold War.
Such a good movie
I think Tropic Thunder is a brilliant film. I love how it introduces the main characters in the fake trailers. It's just friggin brilliant. The whole thing is honestly a masterpiece of comedy and it needs more credit in that regard.
Best part is when the director blows up from the land mine and all of them stand there shocked and confused, hilarious movie!
Such a good moment 😂
Another great Robert Downey Jr film and one of my favorite movies is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Great like mystery/comedy no spoilers. With great actors & actresses and before his big comeback with Iron Man.
I just laughed when I seen the thumbnail notification
Haha off to a good start then!
26:15 - We all thought the same thing during this final scene. XD
Actually, Tom Cruise wasn't billed in the cast during the publicity leading up to its release. He was fine with it. Turned out to be a total shocker to see him (like THAT) when people went to see the movie. Hahaha
Yes, that's really RDJ's voice.
LOL
Also the beginning war scene is a parody of “platoon”. Great Vietnam war movie you should check it out
I loved this movie so much, I bought it.
I doubt it would ruin careers. But jokes not landing as well I agree
"I don't read the script the script reads me."
I heard that Cruise actually was thrilled and wanted to do that role for his character
Kenneth Branagh’s “Hamlet,” the ultimate “who isn’t in this” movie
Oliver Stone's JFK.
This is one of the most slept on comedies ever. Truly up there with the best
Please watch "This is the end" that is one of my favorite if not my favorite meta comedy of all time
Also check out 21 and 22 jump street if you haven't seen them. Those movies are amazing
that movie has a good first half then sucks ass. The world's end (which came out the same year) is infinitely smarter
Thank you for watching this! Ive been googling reactions for it every few months since forever. And at last I found you. And damn, you''re one of the best reactors I've seen! Keep it up!
