About shadow banning on TikTok, its only really noticeable with people with huge followings. For example: a creator I watch named Nicque has over a million followers and her videos get consistent likes of the 3k to 4k range, but then she had started talking about race and her videos (regardless of whether they were also about race) were suddenly only getting 200 to 400 likes. She also did her own experiment about tiktok showing more white creators than black creators by wearing a blonde wig with blue contacts and doing the *exact* same content, the videos she was wearing the wig in had a far higher chance of showing up on people's FYP(she actually stopped purely because the sheer gap between those and her usual self made her feel so sick and hopeless[me too, honestly])

Sadly, algorithms will always appeal to people's implicit biases.

This actually put into words why I'm perplexed by the current (albeit niche) discourse over people selling bound copies of fanfiction on etsy. Like, I understand why the consensus seems to be "selling fic bad" - from a purely pragmatic point of view, it's very risky to start poking the bear that is copyright law and potentially turn the legally gray status of fanfiction into an outright ban.
But I also think people are kinda missing the bigger picture here. The anxiety over potentially losing the ability to share fanfiction as a community is borne out of a much larger problem than just some randos wanting to make money off of their own artisanal work. Fanfiction is on thin ice both because of ip issues, AND because of the larger censorship waves that plague the internet right now. I think blaming each other for stepping out of line is just an inch away from being outright respectability politics.

And I think current Fans don't realize just how thin the line is because it was so popular in 2012-2016 tumblr. You hear about 50 Shades and After and they don't know or remember that Fanfiction is still incredibly niche within a formerly niche community.

I really liked what you said about how policies in other countries affect everyone. I would love to hear more about that especially in regards to how China and Russia treat queer content.

I don't talk much about Russia but as far as China goes, you can hear some of it in my Word of Honor, Nirvana in Fire and Untamed watches but it's very brief compared to this video.

I had always been on the opinion than sex being taboo and over18 only when adolescence (which happens before 18) is the time when the human body star asking for sex naturally is a huge social mistake. Because it foments bad kinks, echo chambers and misinformation, which is what lead to almost all the sexual related problem we got today.
