      @@lunsettabee i watch a lot of history documentaries and i prefer objective truth, theres always a risk that our history has been altered in order to bend the absolute truth but the common trend especially in the last few centuries is that overly ambitious, almost psychopathic and greedy men and mens war have often progressed our technology and infrastructure. If this wasn't true then women's suffrage was a lie and would be a lie today wouldn't you agree. You can't use the exception to the rule as the defining rule, women have made great achievements through history but only a handfull have held power, power to change the very existence of human integrity.
      That being said men have always held empathy because its empathy that creates rebellion when a man of power is unjust, anger too is a subset of empathy, to see your entire people slaughtered it makes you sad and angry to a point where you want to fight so it wont happen to fellow villagers, sometimes you stop, sometimes you become so infused with rage that you become the monster you were fighting and the cycle forever continues.

    About the guy with the PS4, I think a point that wasn’t discussed it’s the “violence” fact. Like I would be disturbed if out of nowhere my partner smashes my switch (even if it’s a surprise, there’s an element of destruction) that would make me reconsider their behavior for future situations. I don’t think he was in the wrong from broken up with her tbh.

    • @anniep.6808
      @anniep.6808 Месяц назад +51

      That's a really great point! That would be a scary moment to be in - someone loudly destroying your property with a hammer, and you have no idea where this behavior is coming from, if it's going to escalate, why they brought someone with them while they do this... that's a chilling moment. Even if he could rationalize the situation later, I would imagine his feelings of "this is a safe and predictable person" would have changed at a gut level. I can see why, even if he was able to understand her point of view, this was so upsetting he couldn't move past it.

      This was my first thought. If I (woman) was with a man who burst out into physical violence one day, whether it’s against an object or a person, I’m leaving before it’s me. And even if he never hits me, the trust that he won’t is gone. I won’t feel safe.

      Excatly, that moment would be so scary. My first thought would be "wtf is happening?" and second "what will they attack/do next?" And I don't know if I'd ever be able to get over that fear. To be fair, I grew up in an abusive home so my constant reality was waiting for the moment someone would suddenly snap and fearing what they might do, and I think experiencing what happened in the reddit story would send me right back there and I would leave as soon as I felt i safely could.

    The destroyed PS4 story completely broke my heart. It’s like if your hobby was painting and your partner came in and destroyed every painting you’ve ever made and threw away all your painting supplies, only to then “gift” you with expensive new canvases, paints, and brushes. Yeah, the materials are replaced, but the thing that mattered to you is destroyed and you cannot replace the time, effort, and results of your passion. I almost got out of my seat and walked away like Ian did 😤

      While it hurt and cringed to hear that, I do think breaking up was a little overboard - mainly because the issue didn't seem to be about a betrayal of trust, but rather it seems like she misunderstood the nature of how gaming/games work and why people do it (which happens a lot with people who don't play games). I get that this can be something this guy can't come back from and he may need some space, but it also seems like she understood what it meant to him at the end of it and can move on to have a better understanding of the other person - given that they had no issues before and she didn't seem to be malicious.

      @@kartrix1 I dunno... I feel like she shouldn't have needed a comparison to understand that she hurt her partner. And the fact that she didn't apologize right away after he told her what she did hurt him so bad is a problem. I'm also not entirely sure I believe her when she said that it wasn't about TikTok. I mean she got the idea from TikTok and had her friend record it all for her... And like they said in the video, I don't necessarily believe people when they're like "Oh, we've never had any issues in our relationship." I feel like even if he didn't realize it, this was a wake-up call. Sad stuff all around regardless, though. :\

      @@TheKat12364 I get she broke it, but once he was able to explain it in a way she could understand - she did. It doesn't undo what happened, but I think about how open she was to sit down, communicate and really listen to the other person the way they did in the end - that's the toughest part of a relationship, she was willing to look past her pride and learn why it's wrong.
      You don't have to be right all the time, but being able to do that on both sides is typically a healthy sign.
      Breaking up is completely that guy's choice and whether or not they can look past it is completely up to them and that's okay. But, I do also think the fact that they could sit down and have a heart to heart is a good sign and a shame.

Like, even if it all was just a complete misunderstanding and the gf now realizes why what she did was wrong, that’s not something that you just forget about and move on from. It’s not about the fact that it was a ps4, which is what they all fixated from. It’s about the complete lack of understanding, communication, and respect that you have to have for this to happen. I think that's why he didn't want to stay. Even if she couldn't understand, she didn't even try to empathize or make it better until she understood. Sometimes it's better to see that you did wrong and fix it and then try to understand why it was wrong before doing something about it.

      And re: “trying to understand” - if you are deciding it will only ‘make sense’ or ‘be a reasonable feeling to feel’ if it makes sense to you according to your personal logic and values, you’re being an a-hole. If it hurt someone, ask for THEIR logic and reasoning. Understand it from the point of view of their values. You don’t get to decide whether they are “allowed” to feel that or if they’re being “irrational.”
      An example from interacting with my dad: “Well *I* don’t get upset if someone insults me to my face, therefore if you have a problem with it you’re being a baby. Where’s the problem. I don’t understand”

      I have a really shitty car. It was my first car, had it for years, and needs to be replaced as it's on its last leg. Even with all that in mind; I would be heartbroken and shattered if my gf just bashed it in and replaced it with even my dream car. Although it's on its way out, I have so many precious memories with that car. Walking up and destroying something like that isn't only breaking your partner's trust: it is also removing their agency over their own memories/possessions.

I play games and do crafts and would have the same reaction if either of those hobbies was disrespected and destroyed like that. It's not about what it is, it's about something you had that you took time to create, and the person who's supposed to be your most loved one just destroyed it. It's fair he broke up.
      Also the "I just wanted to see you happy" is bullshit. Sure, maybe she didn't want to post it for clout, but the fact that she was ok with hurting him first is insane. It's like those "pranks" where someone supposedly dies, it's not nice. There's something twisted in you if you think something like this is ok.

I've been passionate about it since before I can remember. I have a collection that literally spans multiple decades. I'm 26 now and still build and collect. If someone, and I mean ANYONE, threw out my Lego collection without talking to me about it, they're out of my life. I wouldn't talk to them again. That's trust that's been broken, that's years of memories gone, that's money that's been lost, etc.

    the post about the Final Fantasy 14 could have been written by me about my ex except a different game. Last straw for me was leaving for work on our anniversary at 6am, getting home at 4 to find them playing with headphones on, cooking them dinner and telling them happy anniversary to a single word of thanks before they went back to the game and their discord chat, then not logging off until well after I’d gone to bed. “He’s more like a roommate than a husband” is EXACTLY it. They were living in my apartment and sleeping in my bed and I was able to negotiate one day a week where we could spend time together, but making them stick to that was rare. Outside of those nights, we had zero contact. We worked at the same place (I got them a job because they were unemployed) and they pretended not to know me in passing.
    I still have so many thoughts like OP, too. Maybe it was my unrealistic expectations. Maybe I pressured them into too much, even though the relationship was their idea despite my reservations; moving to be with me was their idea too. They needed a social circle that wasn’t me. We’ve been broken up for a long time now, but I already had a lot of fear about being “too much” and I just don’t think dating is worth it for me anymore.

When I'd get something like a headache or anxiety from gaming too much she'd say "that's from losing your balance", so I started very carefully watching to make sure where the line was. She didn't really physically stop me much bc of my home situation, but it has made me such a healthy adult with knowing my limits

It helped me through my transition and the game holds a special place in my heart. I did everything I could possibly do in the game and stopped playing it. A couple months ago, my niece moved in with me, and I made the decision to let her override my save file so that she could get comfort out of the game like I did when I first moved here. Honestly the decision to delete my island felt like a bittersweet closing of a chapter. It also felt really good to share the experience with her. It could’ve been such a sweet moment for the couple in the story.

Like Damien said, for a lot of people who don't play games it might seem silly because they don't take games seriously, but I think independently deciding to destroy something of your partner's - especially something irreplaceable that they invested so much time into - is a red flag that should be understandable to anyone. You don't get to decide how much sentimental value something "should' have to a person, even if you can't relate to it.
    I have a Skyrim save that I haven't touched in probably 10 years. At this point chances are I'll never play it again, but that save file is going to live on my Steam cloud forever because it holds memories for me, even if those memories happened in a virtual world.

I spilled a glass of wine in the ports and thought it was done for, but after leaving it on its side for about a month (I was too scared to turn it on) it still works perfectly. It’s been through the majority of my life with me. It’s an almost 20 year old console. My dad taught me how to play video games on that console. There were times when everything in my life was extremely turbulent and distressing, but for those few hours when I could just sit down and play Viva Piñata, I could just exist and be okay.

    That’s like walking into someone’s art studio, destroying everything in it. The art, tools, equipment, furniture, etc, and then being like “guess who got you a new art studio!!” Like wtf did she think was going to happen?

    • @Cosmiccrying
      @Cosmiccrying Месяц назад +21

      I just compare it to my art, I’ve got a sketchbook as well as an art tablet, I’ve spent hours and/or days on my digital art and sometimes just as much in my sketchbook. I’d be devastated if someone burned my sketchbook or smashed my art tablet, sure a “better” one is nice but I’ve put hours into my work, work that most of the time isn’t saved and I’ll never get that back, honestly I think I’d just drop the pen atp as it would absolutely break my heart.

    Love how the FFXIV dude said, "This is how adults do it, it's not like in the movies" in regards to "couples time" to try to justify his actions even though earlier in the post his wife said before he was attached to the game they used to hike, do art, play board games, go to bar trivia, etc.
    He needs help and she needs to get tf out of that marriage.

    Something to be mentioned with the ps4 story is that causing your partner intentional pain emotional or otherwise, with the intent of being the person who makes them feel better, is manipulation and abuse. It is a tactic often used by narcissistic people. I wouldn't be surprised if the family pointed out other instances where shed done similar things that might have affected his decision to leave. My ex admitted to intentionally making me cry so he could cheer me up. He thought it was sweet. Its a tactic to get them to see you as the hero, the savior, the person they trust when really they are the one causing the pain in the first place.

      @viviandingdong Месяц назад +8

      This is such a good point. My ex did the same thing. It gets tiring once you know the charade and they get pissed/dismissive if you don't give the reaction they're trying to milk out of you. Like you said, the person purposefully causing you pain should not be the same person you go to to feel better. Took a long time to learn.

    The husband losing interest and how the girlfriend disappeared for the week; the update is heartbreaking. This is exactly what was happening behind my back with my ex, he’d be talking to girls on discord, playing games with them 24/7 and sometimes I’d wake up in the middle of the night and hear them flirting. One time he kicked me out the house we lived in because I found out and I came back to him muting the mic on a call with her at convenient moments to keep us both happy and for neither of us to leave him.. there’s so many horrific stories with him that I could spend all day writing about but I’m so glad to be away from that now but holy sh!t the feeling I got hearing this story was a big PTSD moment, I hope the girl is feeling better now, those men are a waste of space.

    I understand the quitting gaming after all those hours and memories destroyed from the PS4. I'm an artist and lost the desire/drive to draw for 2 full years, when all of my collection of art, sketchbooks, and supplies were disrespectfully thrown out by family members during my parents' messy divorce. Shit like that literally BREAKS you, and it makes it incredibly hard to find the enjoyment in it again. . . At least for a long while, in my experience 💔

    Adding to the "childish interests" convo in the second story - a lot of people who had unstable childhoods were forced to grow up FAST, and often weren't allowed, or didn't allow themselves, to enjoy things made for children when they were children. When they seek these things out as an adult, they are healing from that trauma. I'm not saying every 35 year old taking themselves on a fun trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop is an abuse survivor, but indulging your inner child is a legitimate therapy method. The child that you were doesn't disappear when you turn 18. You can repress them and deny them comfort, but that child will always be a part of you. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can embrace everything that you are, and you'll be less likely to judge other adults for watching cartoons and playing with Legos.

      This makes me think of the short story ‘Eleven’ by Sandra Cisneros.
      ‘What they don't understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you're eleven, you're also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one. And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven, but you don't. You open your eyes and everything's just like yesterday, only it's today. And you don't feel eleven at all. You feel like you're still ten. And you are --underneath the year that makes you eleven.’

    1:02:43 I mean he pretty much said it “we’ve never had any conflicts before this.” They’ve had a nice lowkey relationship where no dramatic situation arose but the problem is life is chaotic especially if you do s**t like watch TikTok and copy the things you see on there because you think it will get you views. So now that they’ve come to a legitimate conflict her response is very telling of potential future arguments. If she cares that little about your property and feelings there’s a lot she can do to damage you over the years if you choose to stay. She either truly doesn’t care or is just that oblivious either way you should reprioritize your life and see if they fit in it. But make it clear to them you are thinking that way, let them know it could mean the end of your relationship. If they love YOU more than “the thought of you” they WILL get tf over themselves and do/say what they have to keep you from leaving.
