I’m born and raised in the US, but I’m half Central European. If he expects to go there and get a submissive wife, he’s in for a huge shock! The toughest people in my family are definitely the women. They have zero problem standing up for themselves. Plus family is huge there, so when a guy acts like an ass, she has her entire pissed off family right there, backing her. My grandmother, aunt, and cousin are three generations of tough women who are scary AF when they’re pissed. Plus, the women there are highly educated. They don’t have to pay massive amounts of money to go to college. When my dad was in the hospital, I asked one of his doctors why I only saw women doctors there. In a week, I didn’t see one male doctor. She just said, “Well, medical school is really academically taxing, and men can be “intellectually lazy.” So women go to med school, but men go to business school to try to make more money. This was fifteen years ago, too.

This was something we talked about and discussed, and my doctor only prescribed 1-2 tablespoons. At first, I thought that (while his methods were definitely wrong and over-the-top to say the least) his intentions were at least understandable; wanting her to at least acknowledge that your physical size and cockiness doesn't mean much in a genuinely life threatening situation. However, learning that he got "excited" by it just makes me re-evaluate his motives as being more sinister than out of concern. What a sick bastard.

The aftermath is crucial in that situation. Especially if she was begging him to get up or said ok that’s enough. Otherwise if she just struggled until she got too tired and he got up I don’t think the sole reason to break up with him. She volunteered and she obviously was still super confident in herself to agree to do that in the first place. If she doesn’t want to be with a guy who can overpower her that’s a completely different issue. The only way she was going to understand that was through him overpowering her. If you make sure to communicate that you care for her and were afraid there wasn’t any way you could get through to her then it’s hard not to see it was from love not malice. Even if you switch the genders I expect the man to take that L and agree that they should try not to be so prideful. I’d rather my partner get mad at me for an agreed upon humbling than to get robbed/kidnapped from putting themself in unnecessary danger. Again you can’t just pin someone down to point of traumatizing them, but outside of begging her through tears I don’t see how he was going to open her eyes if he repeatedly communicated his concerns.

there was a lot to unpack in that story so i get that they grazed over certain things a little faster but that whole thing about him "ogling" her was a major red flag. its so frustrating that the sister notices that and EVEN THEN, places the responsibility on her sister to be "trustworthy" and not get between their marriage when its literally the husband/brother-in-law who's showing signs of being just as creepy and pervy as the last guy. if anything they should be testing HIM (it would be wrong to do that too, but slightly more justified)

It was incredibly obvious of course, and the moment we stepped out of the store my dad noticed and I panicked and confessed to my crime. So he took me back into the Blockbuster, up to the teenager at the register and told her “my kid just stole this candy and she’s here to give it back, but will we have to call the police and send her to jail?” At this point I was panicking and crying cuz I was sure 8 year olds in prison don’t have a good time. Apparently the girl at the register thought it was cute and felt bad and started to say it was okay, but my dad gave her one of those pointed dad looks and she had to go “Well, usually we would call the police and criminals go to jail for a loooong time, but I guess this time we’ll let you off the hook.” And I never stole again.

Can we also talk about the possible psychological effects of story 1? 16 year old brains are incredibly maliable, ESPECIALLY with a parent. What this dad did could make the son feel like he has to be able to drink a lot and increase his tolerance to be an "actual man". Or that getting sick from drinking NINE BEERS is embarrassing and weak. like whatttt is this dad thinking

Teaching someone to drink irresponsibly and ignore the limits your body is telling you is so scary. A parent should teach their children how to drink responsibly when they old enough to, not force them to drink irresponsibly before they seem like they are ready to.
I had friends not wake up after drinking too much in highschool - it's not harmless fun 😞

I think the only things his dad has taught him are:
      1. Dad will ignore your boundaries and stomp all over them if he feels like it.
      2. Make sure dad doesn't find out next time you break a rule.
      3. When you were in pain mum cared for you, dad didn't care about you at all.
      And a bonus:
      4. Forcing someone to drink until alcohol poisoning is an acceptable punishment. That sure is good to know when he's going to college in two years.

That's not necessarily the case. I puked once after drinking hornitos gold tequila mixed with hot chocolate (yes it was vile, no I do not recommend, yes I was desperate because it was the only alcohol I brought to the party lmao) and about 5 minutes later it was making it's untimely re-entrance if ya know what I mean. I didn't even get tipsy from what little I did drink at the party, but that awful concoction didn't sit well to the point where my body expelled it. Obviously that's not the situation with this story, but puking doesn't always mean poisoning. Sometimes something is just nasty or your stomach was already uneasy. At the end, she asked if I’d ever drink like that again. I said no and then she made me soup and helped me to feel better and it worked. I didn’t drink like that again.

The men under the comments called her rude and stated that they’d just date Eastern European, Asian or Arabic women instead because they know how to keep their husbands happy because they are submissive and respectful. But if you scroll down more, you’d see those same woman actually stating the opposite and didn’t know what those men were talking about. Some of them were doctors themselves that also kept their last name instead of changing it for their husbands.

The story with the family sabotaging that poor girl really hit me and brought up some painful memories. Not that I’ve ever experienced anything like that soap opera mess, but this is a family dynamic that’s all too common. There’s the “golden child” and the “scapegoat,” OP’s sister is the first and she’s the latter. One child gets sacrificed to try to neutralize all stress and problems occurring in the family.
This kind of stuff doesn’t happen one time or out of nowhere, and I can basically guarantee the OP talking about being a people pleaser is a direct result of spending a lifetime as the family scapegoat. The sister and mother are clearly the ones with serious problems that need to be worked out, but it’s so much easier to exploit the person who did nothing wrong - make them apologize for absolutely no reason - and then when THEY feel better, you’re the one who’s expected to move on. Family dynamics like this are so psychologically damaging.
My heart hurts for her and I hope she gets to feel what it’s like to have a family that really supports you. I’m so glad she had her boyfriend and his family to be there for her throughout all of that, can’t even imagine the emotional whiplash.

OP's insistence on wanting to apologize for introducing the previous pervert husband to her sister definitely show's she's been shaped to be a people pleaser. @eonadoragon 3 месяца назад +14

I also think it’s wrong to hold her down several minutes. But I think it‘s good to feel how heavy a body can be on you or how you would react in a difficult situation. My partner and I both train martial arts and it’s really interesting to experience my actions and reactions in a safe environment.
Often I was stunned and wasn’t able to react when my partner would hold me in a position I couldn’t get out of. But of course I immediately spoke up and we ended what ever we were doing and talked about the situation and what I could have done.
Also I don’t like tasers and pepper spray, because they also give you „false“ confidence if you don’t know how to use them or if for example the attacker uses the same things or unarms you and uses the pepper spray against you
