I once saw Santana around 15 years ago and was wearing a Hendrix shirt and so was he. He spotted it and pointed to me and then pulled out his own as if to say yeah buddy I’m wearing Hendrix to and gave a thumbs up and went back to ripping up guitar.

SRV asked Eric Gales autograph when they met in ardent studios in Memphis. Eric Gales isn't just a random kid from Memphis. Even the greats knew who he was. Basically passing the torch to him.
I feel bad for anyone who would have to go up after that, but Carlos went for it and pretty much fell flat on his face having to play voodoo child to run away from an underwhelming follow up. At least he was seasoned enough to do that. Sorry Carlos you're still great EG is just on another planet.

I have always felt the same way about Santana. I mean hes good, but Ive never been able to see what makes him warrant the kind of stardom hes had. It has always left me begging the question. "Am I missing something with Santana?" I dont think I am though. He really is just over rated.

Santana seems to have lost his swing the last decade or so. There are points here where he’s not even really playing. He just can’t keep up with Eric. Even through this awful recording, Eric still cuts through while Carlos just gets lost in the mix.
That female drummer is not it for the Santana group. She,s good but she overplays -no soul, no finesse ,no pocket. Plays drums like a Rock/Metal White Boy Drummer. Loud and Brash. Hey just my opinion!!!
Well that would explain her presence in the band! She is still not a good fit for the band Wife or not. She overplays and is somewhat Brash in her overall tone and control. Someone like a Sheila E has control and fits in with the sound of the band if you are going to use a female percussionist! Her sound or someone like her is a good mix for that band She is a good female drummer/percussionist. I've followed Santana since he 60's in his many incarnations of that band and that drummer is not a good fit. IMHO.

Brandon Jefferson Saw Santana in concert back in 1990 and he put on a whale of a show! Amphitheater was half full, but because of our enthusiasm and feedback, treated us to 2 and a half hours of spiritual magic. One of the best concerts I’ve ever heard and seen. But, to your point, I too was not impressed with this particular performance. Just my $.02.
