He has much more control of his single line phrasing than Jimi had--but Jimi's motivic/ compositional arc is on another level---but thats because he created that language...But Eric is the greatest "Stewart" of it, the carrier of the flame.
Mr. Gales is a consummate master of Stratocaster-styled phrasing, and Taylor has clearly studied the phrasing of the British Blues masters (Clapton, Green, and M. Taylor) very thoroughly. They are both virtuosos.
Looks like Eric is being very encouraging to Joanne. She seemed a little tentative at first and he was just helping and waiting for her to get going. Cool stuff. Two great players.
I can say that I have seen Shaw Taylor and Gales in Barcelona (in two different shows). Both are amazing. There were a blast. But Gales... I saw him in Madrid and other time in Barcelona, and... he is Fucking great.
Eric Gales takes the lore of Jimmy to a higher plan, just like before the unsung Eddie Hazel did. On the other Joanna's playing on her side revives the body of Blues Music with fresh blood. Amazing team!

Damned Joannes Les Paul just blows Erics strat sound away!And her vibrato is just amazing!I usually prefer strats but this is one of the best Les Paul sounds i ever heard and its all in the fingers right!
JST played an amazing gig in Dublin Ireland about four years ago with just a drummer and bass player accompanying her. She held the audience spellbound for 90 minutes, I know she since toured with Joe Bonamassa but we want yo know when she us coming back to rock Dublun again....what a talent !! R😎ck on Joanne. EG has played numerous axes from different makers, but I believe the one he's playing here is his Brute Drive EG Signature guitar from EWS. Just going by the headstock design. But regardless of the make of guitar he plays, he can lay the lumber. He is mind blowing w/ his dexterity n fluid runs. It's tough enough to be able to glide up n down the fretboard w/ ease the way Eric does anyway, but to be able to pistol whip the instrument in upside down fashion is off the scales! My new fav axe slayer!
I'm a lefty player, n wouldn't wish that on anybody starting out on guitar that are left handed lol. It's tough enough progressing as a lefty player(playing standard left hand strung guitars). I would walk into this local music store where I live yrs ago, it was a really big building w/ two floors. Walk upstairs and the whole 2nd floor was dedicated to electric guitars n basses. 500 plus axes covered the walls, just gorgeous instruments. Well w/ a room full of guitars, there would be two left handed guitars at most, n they were junk lol. I felt like a kid in a candy store who was allergic to candy lol. So, as most lefty's starting out, I played junky right hand guitars w/ the strings switched to left hand stringing. As I've gotten older n been playing for alota yrs now, I'm comfortable being a lefty. There's more quality left hand instruments available now days. But if I had it to do all over again, I would have made myself learn to play right handed. 2% of the world population are lefty. That's just strange to me lol. Sorry so winded. I said all that to say, that bc of....I learned to play most chords upside down(standard rt hand tuning), but I can't imagine playing fluid lead that way. Eric Gales, Doyle Bramhall, Albert King, all play/ed that way. All the scales/solo's you play are all upside down. I've never seen anyone who can play masterfully that way like Eric Gales does. He is a phenomenon. Sorry again Gina Always for the long text. Just interesting watching EG vids(the lady is awesome as well).

If you get a chance please go see Joanne Shaw Taylor she's so talented and totally amazing. Jo, drummer and base that's all it takes for some great blues! I'm friends with some great players and have been very fortunate to VIP with who I consider the best. I guess I need to remember that in my prayers tonight when times get bad remember what I'm grateful for. I'm having a hard time playing due 3 neck surgeries. These two are great... I've seen them live together in holland and joanne was right in front of me and she was shaking.. she looked like she had a breakdown when she needed to retune... they both ended up doing amazing tho. Best set I've experienced.

EG can kill those Eric Johnson runs! I heard an interview where Gales said that EJ was an influence. The mastery of an instrument is a great achievement that sets an artist apart from most, but the master was also a student at one time in their life, and they learned from someone, or something else(...yea God is excluded lol). It's hard to imagine someone like Miles Davis learning from others, but some where/some time he did. Same w/ Hendrix, who was influenced by Albert King, Buddy Guy, n others. The Charlie Parker's, Charlie Patton's, etc...But they all took things they saw, heard, were taught, and emulated them, eventually finding their own style and sound from. Eric Gales has done the same I'm sure; taken all these influences, and mashed them up into his own style, and man does he ever have his own identity! His rapid fire runs are staggering, yet he can slow it down to a crawl making his axe weep, and the crowd as well. He is definitely up there w/ the greats imho! He will only get better, bc though they are masters of their instrument, they will be the first to say that there's plenty to learn still!
