Same, not on my Birthday but 17 bought the Abrazas, 8 track cassette for my 1966 Ford Fairlane, V8 289 cubic inch, automatic, white convertible, red leather interior, first car. Buddy and I would load up our surfboards, skipped Friday Lakeland, Fl High school classes, drove to Sebastian Inlet, just south of Cocoa Beach, Florida. Now just the reversed numbers, 71.
This as tight as you get man! Pure raw old school rock incorporating all type of instruments that hadn't been heard together at that time. Santana was kicking some royal ass around this time. Great fkcn tune!
I first saw Carlosin 1970 . im 70 and have seen Carlos for over 50+ years. I still go see him every chance I get Firtuntate ti seehim rwice this year. Seeimg him in Vegas soon. Also seeing him in my hometiwn Chicsgo in July. He puts on a clinic every time heplays. He band is always so tight snd slways having fun. Carlos what can you sayhe still you goosebumps and chills when he plays A really true ICON and Inspiration
that Organ man are you shiting me bro? that is Greg the man Rollie one of the founders of Journey after he left Santana. look him up he's not just an organ player he's a Hall of Fame fucking legend there's a reason why he goes out on tour with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band and more and his playing is always needed.
MAKING SURE YOU KNOW OF "JOURNEY THROUGH TIME" YOU'LL SEE GREGG ROLIE PLAYING SOME OF THE MOST TOUGHEST SONGS (his) OF ALL TIME, please you need to check it out if you haven't, GOOD LUCK TO YOU GOD BLESS..
Michael Shrieve man!! 17 years old playing in two of the most iconic gigs ever in Woodstock and tanglewood before his 18th birthday 😳😎 what a drummer too 👍
They are such badasses! I first saw them at the Forum with my older brother in 1971, when I was thirteen. Carlos Santana and Gregg Rolie were amazing together! The drummer, Michael Shrieve SO underrated!
Great voice from Greg Rollie, great percussion from Mike and Chepito and great guitar work from Carlitos. Saludos, tambien te puse tu comentario en ingles.
I can’t play a single instrument except a 2002 Yamaha YZ 250, every time I watch this, I get something visually amazing or emotionally amazing from this performance. I truly hope ALL of these musicians realize what a difference they have made to not only me, but everyone else who have seen this performance!
Agreed with many others, this is the best era and band for Carlos, unreal music from a time when one classic after another came out on a weekly basis. That old Tanglewood footage from that era is priceless!
the first 3 albums of Santana are to my opion the BEST ever done and set the standard for the rest of the other bands in the world. First time hearing them was in 1969( 7 years old) to this present day and never got tired listening to these first 3 albums, thank u Carlos
I grew up literally from age 3 listening to Sanatana. It’s in my blood more or less. Every time I hear anything from them and or Carlos, I am transported to another realm.
I was born 6 months after this recording. I can’t remember when I first heard the Abraxas album, but I bought it on cd many years later. Every song on the album is fab 😊👍🏻
Michael Shrieve was the best Drummer was and is a premier Drummer I've been privileged to see him perform a few times with Santana and with HSAS ( Hagar Shon Aaronson and Shrieve) Amazing Drummer 👏
I strongly AGREE my friend. This song I sing in my heart Everytime I see pains, whether or not I know the person...it's a Lift-Up song with JOY. My fave song.
Jesus he has a great absolutely amazing dominant control Actually the whole band great video by the way absolutely great performance The whole band and Greg Rollie Amazing Voice and Keyboard
I know what this song is all about. Me too Carlos. You're cuts have always been the best to me. Loved muisc from the very first time I heard you and your band.
Is that you Your eyes slowly fading? Is that you Your mind full of tears? Is that you Searching for a good time? Is that you Waitin' for all these years? Chorus: And I hope you're feelin' better Yes I hope you're feelin' good Yes I hope you're feelin' better Is that you? Look across the ocean Is that you Thinkin nothin' is really there? Is that you Waiting for the sunshine? Is that you When all you see is glare? Chorus Is that you Who never saw your baby? Is that you Who never had a friend? Is that you Movin' to a new town? Is that you Will di'monds replace your friends? Chorus
My cousin sent me some Santana songs and I immediately thought of this song to send him. I never seen this live version, they played it just like the studio version and just as good. Carlos almost did the solo exact but was feeling that long note and I don’t blame him. Love how the band is playing to themselves not the crowd...the crowd just happen to be there! Vocals and whole band are so tight here, shuttle body movements dropping the beat! Awesome!!!!
Supposedly tuning is the reason he switched guitars. In those days the SG had a marstro bridge, with a tremelo bar, they are prone to tuning problems. If he had a different kind of SG bridge, he would not have tuning problems. He is now endorsed by PRS, so he uses them exclusively, it would be cool to here him play with an SG again to hear how he could make it sing.
My second LP in 1971. Still my most cherished LP, bought three in last 15 years. Samba Pa Ti and Feeling are my faves. He does a lot for humanity, please research this and support his positive efforts...it's not just the music, it's Carlos !
Santana has been around for 50 years and this version of the band is still the best.
There was to be a reunion tour in 2020 with all of the players still alive. Sheila E was going to take the place of her Dad on Percussion.
You got it.!!!!!
Totally agree. I don't remember much in vocals played on them in 70s in San Diego, CA.maybe other locations
Yes!
ITS A ROCKET VERSION... AS GOOD AS SOUL SACRIFICE VERSION AT WOODSTOCK
THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE FOR SANTANS SONG
Listen to that Leslie on that Hammond! Pure 70s energy!
Rolie was a brilliant vocalist and keyboard player on the best of Santana's recordings: they never reached the same peaks again without him.
YES SIR, TO THE POINT...
JOURNEY'S INCUBATION PERIOD...
Yep.!!!!!
Yes sir.
He was also very good on the early journey album's before Perry ruined the band
I got Abraxas for my 17th birthday in 1970. Still rockin' to this day.
I was 14 great jam
Recorded on my 18th B'day (8/18/52)!!!

Kids, this Greg Rollie, and the percussion that made Santana famous!! Every element came together. This WAS Santana.
RIP.
My favorite santana song for years. À year after woodstock. They must have been riding on top of the world
Greg Rollie has a very big part in the rise of Band Santana. His Keyboard/ Organ solo style gives sophistication to the songs of Santana..
This is Santanas heaviest song!!!
Indeed, and massively underrated.
Well, "Open invitation" sounds like something by zztop exept it has that santana style
Reminds me of an Allman Brothers joint
One of the bands greatest live songs !
Open Invitation also classic hard-rock style
Best Santana line up ever!
lasted for only 2 years
Juan Torquemada 3 years; 1969-1972
Yesss
No doubt.
I first saw Carlosin 1970 . im 70 and have seen Carlos for over 50+ years. I still go see him every chance I get

A really true ICON and Inspiration
Love Gregs voice.... it's different!
He sings with balls!!
I always thought he sounded like Elvis
Twice inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Santana and Journey
Not only can the organ player play but has a great voice/the hole band as a group is just beyond the top/thanks for the video
that Organ man are you shiting me bro?
that is Greg the man Rollie
one of the founders of Journey after he left Santana.

Elected into the Rock & Roll HOF twice! 🤘
Greg
Carlos Santana, one of the best Rock Bands ever with this particular lineup. Thumb way up for these guys. ;-)
Michael Shrieve man!! 17 years old playing in two of the most iconic gigs ever in Woodstock and tanglewood before his 18th birthday 😳😎 what a drummer too 👍
TREMENDOUS...
He was a little older, having just turned 20 right before Woodstock. He is recognized as the 2nd youngest musician at Woodstock.
Exactly, then bringing a young blood to the bands line up a year later Neil Schon 17 Santana always has givin opportunity and inspiration!
He was born in 1949… he was 20 at Woodstock and 21 Tanglewood.
A powerful way to start the song with those triple-fills, just awesome. For being so young, he's really an accomplished drummer.
I was a couple months old when a Band of Gypsies came out and this was 8 months after that! What a time to be alive and hearing this music fresh!
one of the greatest performances of all time- santana at tanglewood 1970
OMG! One of my faves from Abraxas, but what a live performance. Perfect.
It's a phenomanal performance !
Santana first three albums were killer!!!! Takes me back to my J.R. Hi- School daze ??!!?? Love it!! 💘
They are such badasses! I first saw them at the Forum with my older brother in 1971, when I was thirteen. Carlos Santana and Gregg Rolie were amazing together! The drummer, Michael Shrieve SO underrated!
Fantastic. Exactly one year after they amazed the world at Woodstock.
words can't describe how great of a song this is!!!
This song came out when I was a teenager and I was like "Oh My God!" It STILL stirs my soul.... Love Santana and his bands!
Ron Really Me too!! best time to be alive.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE RELATION BETWEEN SANTANA AND JOURNEY...
Greg Rolie could play and belt out these tunes! Such an underrated performer
Soooooo glad I grew up in the Greatest Music Era Ever !!!!!
I trade my youth for these memories🙂.
Gran voz de Greg Rolie, gran percusión de Mike y Chepito y gran guitarra de Carlitos

Greg Rollie was definitely the Santana sound....An extremely talented man......🎹🎤🔥💪👊
This was always my favorite track on the album. This live version is smoking.
Agreed with many others, this is the best era and band for Carlos, unreal music from a time when one classic after another came out on a weekly basis. That old Tanglewood footage from that era is priceless!
Gregg Rolie, when he used to leave a group, he always left a BIG GAP. One of the greats!
My favorite Santana song!!!
I love Greg's voice, i've been listen to Santana all my life thanks to my dad and my uncles
Dang.....a week before my 9th birthday & at 61 still listening to it like it was just released. 🔘

This is one song that cannot be played loud enough!
Excellent. I love it when a band sounds just like their album.
Abraxas - an album that will live in eternity.
This is super awesome, he has the same group from the first album and Woodstock. I've never heard this live. What a treat 😍😌✨💕👏💖
I love at 3:25 Mikey's drum stick goes flying behind him when he replaces it.
Why did he threw it?
Once again, the biggest influence on my musical upbringing. Thank you to all the Santana musicians…

Stellar performance by Greg and Carlos 👍. The band was just so tight !
This was a Live recording. No studio. AWESOME!!😀😀😀

Learning this tune for my Santana tribute project. Wow. Even with Carlos' guitar throwing a tuning tantrum, this live take still rocks!
