My father didn’t talk to me very much as a child but I will never forget 4 words he said to me. We were in a record store, must’ve been waiting in my mother somewhere else in the mall. Well I was overwhelmed with all the music and couldn’t think of any band to look at. 11 year old me walked to my dad and asked “I can’t think of anyone to look at. Who do you suggest?” He said,” Jimi Hendrix is good!” Thank you dad. The best words you ever spoke to me. I went over to Hendrix’s bin and only picked the one where the artwork grabbed me. I remember it was a close up on Hendrix cuz he was the only thing you could see on stage and he was shining blue from the lights. It was Hendrix Live at Winterland! That was my introduction to a lifetime of listening to the man. I’m 51 and watching this first thing in the morning and Hendrix once again brings a tear to my eye. ✌️

For me, it is his groove feeling and his showman capabilities that are really impressive. Technically, a lot of current guitarists are as competent as him, or even better (like Tony Emmanuel, Julian Lage, etc, in another genres). And he was devoted to guitar, so his 10 years of « guitar practicing » are not the same as yours. But he certainly grew up in a musical environment, listening to a lot of (different) music and blues guitarists. That could make a huge difference in the way you perceive things and could lead you to really « internally » hear sounds that you are looking for and that are « melodic » or « groovy ». So yeah, for sure he was « special » and unique. But please do not throw your guitar :), it could take times to develop your musical skills, it is not a competition, be patient, love your musical journey (and nobody has the same), and maybe one day you will feel the stimulus that will connect your brain directly to the instrument 🙏🏻 - at this moment, we will be happy to listen to you playing the guitar even if you are 70 years old

until his dad finally broke down to
get a guitar from all the straw! He
went from poverty to stardom as
they say, rags to riches. His story
      is phenomenal. Glorious and sad.
He lived and breathed that guitar:
A lifetime of playing for us -into a
small window of time in his prime
for him -and it changed the world!

Amazing story. I have similar experiences too. My grandma was a violinist, very much a strict conservative and into mostly classical music. Drilled me on piano every day. A very "by the book" type of person. But she had those same types of reactions when she overheard me loudly playing led zeppelin or jimi hendrix music on my speakers. I'd think she would be coming into the room to yell at me and tell me to turn that shit off. But instead it was something like "wow these guys are really good!! Who is this??" And then I could show her videos on it and we would both be blown away by the talent. That's the thing with talent. Doesnt really matter what circle of life you come from, you can still recognize it.
