Fabulous Fox Theater Atlanta, Georgia Dec. 31st, 1986. Ringing in 1987 with SRV, Double Trouble, BB King and Special Surprise guest, and SRV influencer, Lonnie Mack. Stevie, fresh out of rehab introduced himself as Mr. Clean. I was there and he left it in shambles! Greatest concert ever. Forever grateful for the memories.
I love how he stuck those extra notes into the intro and the drummer hesitated for a few seconds, look confused, then looked over at SRV and smiled. ;) Classic.
H M Stevie never played this as many other songs the same way twice lol The band follows Stevie. I know most of the time there’s no set list. He just get up there and starts playing and they follow lol There are many versions of Voodoo Child. There’s one particular I use to have on Cd that the ending is similar to this one but but about a minute or so longer. He just made the guitar hum with wah like no one ever has.
I'm seeing it as Stevie going down the neck, trailing off with lower notes, not the high energy intro, and the drummer is looking, wondering if it's the start for him when it is.
He surpassed Jimi....it wasn't even close. Plus, SRV was on the 13 gauges. Who else could even attempt to bend those like that. Guys hands were strong as an Ox.
@@LT1HILLINGHOE SRV not even in the same league as Hendrix.. this is laughable compared to any Hendrix version especially the live ones.. just a weak wanna be Hendrix worshipper who owes everything to Jimi and Albert King.."copycat "imitator. Totally unoriginal.. even tried to dress like Jimi...
If you ever saw him live....he melted your face every song. I've seen tons of great guitar players in my time, but SRV was the only one who truly blew me away....4th row helped too....
Have u seen Hendrix live because he made legends want to learn how to play the guitar the its supposed to be played that comes from Paige Clapton Beck Townsend so on and so on Stevie Ray was a BADASS MOFO NODOUBT
The first time I ever heard his music, it was live. A friend said to me he reckoned I would like it, so I bought a ticket and went. Never heard a single recording up to that point. In fact, got to the venue in the afternoon, found an open door and went in. The band came on stage to sound check (20 minute rendition of Mary had a little lamb) and I walked up and stood at the front of the stage.... So the first time I ever heard SRV play, he was standing 10 feet in front of me in an empty auditorium. The memory is burned into my brain such that it still gives me chills when I recall it, almost 40 years later.
This is art, I’m 13, so I’ve been listening to this for only a little bit but he inspired me to start guitar a few years ago, the world would be a better place if Stevie was still alive, we will all see you in haven someday, RIP
Stevie Ray was ascending the throne of Hendrix when he left us. What a tremendous exciting talent and master of the electric guitar. All of us guitar pickers bow to the master blaster Hendrix, but Stevie Ray was blazing a trail of his own. He would have been the man. Dam just think what we have missed with the loss of his talent.
Stunning, one of the best SRV & DT performances I've seen.... the guitar virtuoso, the vocals, DTs rythym section.... this works on all levels. And Stevie's tone... just surreal.
It's a shame Stevie wasn't in his prime in the late 60's, with all the best rock ever. I'm a Vietnam Vet and lost a lot of partners that would have loved this.
I met Stevie, briefly, while working the Serious Moonlight tour rehearsals in Las Colinas, TX, just before he quit the tour. His whole setup was a Fender Twin, a Mesa Boogie, and an A/B switch. All that amazing tone was just Stevie.
In my opinion this version is waaaay better than any other version made....even better than the ones I've seen Hendrix play...SRV polished the gem and created a very nice masterpiece....my respects
SRV is the greatest guitarist to ever walk the earth, hands down. nobody could interface with a guitar like that man did. it was like a part of his body. people love to show off technical skill and talk about how fast they can play this and that, SRV could do all that but didn’t maximize how technically difficult something was, he just put all of his soul into making his music as mind blowing as it is. nobody could, or can currently, play guitar as well as SRV could, period.
I'm going take y'all to the Spring of 88 at UCONN spring weekend. SRV was performing this jam in front of 35,000 folks. My buddy Tom and I were front row dead center. Stevie broke a string playing his solo and never stopped playing. Changed shit up on the fly. That solo still sends chills down My spine. Legendary.
Nobody could pull this off like SRV. Covering. Voodoo was as bold as covering Stairway and he played it with the same raw power as Hendrix as intended.
Saw him in Pittsburgh, stage was set up in front of railroad tracks. Downtown Pittsburgh was in the background. Partway through the show a train went by. The most incredible sight ever! Mid-June clear blue skies!😎✌️❤️
I know this sounds crazy, but watching Stevie is like watching Bruce Lee fighting. Each one was a master of their discipline and it was like a natural expression of their personality. He had such a groove to his way of playing, I love the video of “couldn’t stand the weather” where he’s standing in the rain just jamming away, the guitar was his weapon. I really miss this dude.
Not crazy at all. "Be like water". I first saw SRV on SNL waaayyy back when and I was amazed at how easy he made it seem to play guitar. Yeah, not as easy as he made it look.
Ladies and gents, that was a BAD MAN, greatest to ever play. Vai, satch, Johnson, malmsteen, dime, all were great but no one will ever be like Stevie. My damn hero
btm wtfb “g3 are awful” there’s a reason for that. Generally, when you put three or more great guitar players on stage at the same time, they have this unfortunate tendency of getting in each other’s way. The end result is frequent clashing of musical ideas the just don’t sync. Then your left with a off kilter mess. Don’t get me wrong. I love all of the g3 players individually but when you put them together it just falls apart.
Alexander Henry when you play as many shows in a row as that crew did it’s impossible to be perfect every night. I’d like to see who you would put ahead of him. The man was untouchable. On another level period !!!!!
This never ceases to amaze me...the more I see it the more I realise that SRV is simply a precious gift sent to our music world for a period way too short...simply put a jewel and a privelege to have seen him perform and heard his guitair playing....
Sadly I doubt that... All of us who can think with our own brains already understaind and see that todays generations are already half robots with a very few human "components" in them. No soul, no spirit, arrogant, proud but ignorant, very low IQ and intelect, do not appreciate anything or anyone, very sociopatic, no respect, empty eyes etc... Mostly those are millenialls. Not all but most of them. There are normal Millenialls, but very few... Z Gen is even worse. You have to own emotional intelligence to be able to like the Blues or any kind of music, they do not have that in them. Not anymore. Imagine now the world, when this half-humans will have theyr own children. That is very soon and that is the end. Evolution went backards. Litterally. We are the last of our kind if nothing will be done to change that. We created them and that kind of "mentallity", we normal humans did this. The biggest mistake ever...
I'm sure its directed more at the song being called Voodoo Chile than any inherent dislike of the actual song. At least, thats why I'm not giving it a thumbs up as much as I love it.
Katrina Paton ... I rarely give a thumbs up bc it messes with the algorithm and helps the creator (of which I know nothing about), so I guess with that same logic, I guess one would prefer not to get similar videos in their recommended feed. But this sort, for me I guess, was a thumbs up. I sometimes find it hard to believe that someone would click play on a vid like this without at least knowing somewhat about what they are about to watch.... oh well to each their own

I play, too but it's pointless to try and copy it. He could play anything that he could think and do it on the fly for 20 minutes without repeating himself. This is what a virtuoso does with a really simple melody.
I played this for my 8 y/o. He said it’s “auto tuned”. Def. had a long conversation after that. Lord help these kids growing up in today’s society....😢
Ow, my brain. How I wish so bad that auto-tune never existed, save younger people from having their minds warped by the non-talented 'artists' it's allowed to come through recently. It's vomit-inducing.

He toted the gun of righteousness in his soul as a humanitarian spreading love and encouraging others to do the same while entertaining with a guitar lick that came straight from the powers that be, Jesus Christ. Atlanta, Georgia Dec.

I saw SRV five times and he never disappointed, and was always on fire. A fucking guitar legend who died tragically too young.
You lucky, sob:)
GOLD!
I envy you...and SALUTE you...
@@Mydickinyoursister haha!
one lucky SOB - he was one of the greatest next to Jimi
I love how he stuck those extra notes into the intro and the drummer hesitated for a few seconds, look confused, then looked over at SRV and smiled. ;) Classic.
H M Stevie never played this as many other songs the same way twice lol The band follows Stevie. I know most of the time there’s no set list. He just get up there and starts playing and they follow lol There are many versions of Voodoo Child. There’s one particular I use to have on Cd that the ending is similar to this one but but about a minute or so longer. He just made the guitar hum with wah like no one ever has.
I'm seeing it as Stevie going down the neck, trailing off with lower notes, not the high energy intro,
and the drummer is looking, wondering if it's the start for him when it is.

There have been many great guitarists, but SRV had extraterrestrial level skills.
Indeed galactic heart speak
For the life of me I never continually watched one single episode of that boring ass tv show. Extraterrestrial says it all.
If you ever saw him live....he melted your face every song. I've seen tons of great guitar players in my time, but SRV was the only one who truly blew me away....4th row helped too....

Exactly! I seen him 3x. Just the very best I've ever seen and Ive seen all the great ones.
I love SRV.. This was a stellar performance. You were taken away from us way to soon. Rest easy Stevie ♥️🦋🥰😢
When my wife saw him play she said "It's like the guitar is part of his body". Smart woman.
You lucky Man... not many of em ....
She's a keeper. You should marry her! Wait...

Good idea!

I born in 60s..grew up listening to jimmy..my brothers coming out of Vietnam.....Stevie raised the bar higher..he tore it up...
I cannot go over over how much funk this band actually has, to groove is so tight
Having seen both Jimmy and Stevie. I have been blessed. They torch not play. Find both their studio versions and enjoy.
Stevie Ray was ascending the throne of Hendrix when he left us. What a tremendous exciting talent and master of the electric guitar. All of us guitar pickers bow to the master blaster Hendrix, but Stevie Ray was blazing a trail of his own. He would have been the man. Dam just think what we have missed with the loss of his talent.
it's just not normal... how someone can be this good. .....
Not only that....Austin TX during that era was one of the coolest place on the world to be.
GOD gave US SRV.... and NOW We KNOW Who, What KILLED HIM..... Purim SHIT...
practise, practise, practise.........
It's obvious throughout this song that the only person he was playing this for was Jimi. Well done SRV. Brilliant!
Stunning, one of the best SRV & DT performances I've seen.... the guitar virtuoso, the vocals, DTs rythym section.... this works on all levels. And Stevie's tone... just surreal.
And this, boys and girls, is what we call a legend.
at least mine
He had the BEST teacher in BOTH WORLDS. !!!!!!
Yep
Muito Fera...top dos top.
100% agree. More than 1 song.
Absolutely Better!
I’ve always said Hendrix played it.. But SRV schooled Hendrix on his own song,And Mastered it
A true Master of his 🎸 !
Watch Jimmi hendrix the person he copied. Jimmi played this and is way better
Legendary.
Jimi would applaud this for sure, absolutely incredible version. Thank you Stevie!
There's people who play music and then there's people who ARE music. This is one of the latter.
SRV done more with 1 note than most can do with a million.
Nobody could pull this off like SRV. Covering. Voodoo was as bold as covering Stairway and he played it with the same raw power as Hendrix as intended.
@@guitarplayer2846 - SRV was a great.

I'm a very straight dude, but gotta say there's something sexy in the way Stevie controls that guitar and throws it around at his will.
How can anyone pull off a Hendrix song, and it be iconic like this, this song is so badass, I hope my neighbors like it too
RIP SRV
1 of the very few artists who can legitimately cover this song, especially in a live performance.
When you see this you realize this was a magic age for music which alas is now over.
Ladies and gents, that was a BAD MAN, greatest to ever play. Vai, satch, Johnson, malmsteen, dime, all were great but no one will ever be like Stevie. My damn hero
g3 are awful
Agree my friend
btm wtfb “g3 are awful” there’s a reason for that.
@You Tuber Dime was an incredible guitar player. Most of the players from the 60's and 70's couldn't even be Dime's roadie.
This never ceases to amaze me...the more I see it the more I realise that SRV is simply a precious gift sent to our music world for a period way too short...simply put a jewel and a privelege to have seen him perform and heard his guitair playing....
Thank god they recorded so many of his performances for generations to see RIP SRV

I don't even like Texas blues much, but damn, I love Stevie. During that whole performance he never gives that Strat a break.
