I still find it hard to believe that he used to play 13-guage strings, and STILL managed to bend 'em like that! With the vibrato at the TOP of the bend... and he could still play so damn FAST!
I struggle to get a vibrato at the top of a bend on 9-guage strings and can only dream about playing that fast! (And I play a Gibson, which has a shorter-scale neck than a Strat, which actually makes it easier to bend the strings!) 'Onya Stevie! You were the 'one and only! RIP mate!

      @theseustoo 4 месяца назад +1

@@joan9955 Are you sure about that? Sounds like a strange practice to use a different guage in the studio from what he uses onstage. It would make his 'concert' sound different, specifically 'thinner', from his studio sound... And he'd still have to get the same vibrato at the top of his bends in the studio, which wouldn't be easy with heavier strings.

Calling this man a musician is the biggest understatement. He's on a higher plane. He's plugged into something timeless, eternal.
You look at it and think, "thats a guy with a guitar". You listen to it and you are transported away from this earth. It moves you in your bones, like witnessing your first baby being born.
You can never be the same after hearing him. No words can describe it. He doesnt "play music". He bares his soul. Its all laid out there for you to hear it. The pain, the joy, the hurt, the disappointment. These feelings are so deep and powerful they can't be verbalized. But there he is, reaching into your soul and making you understand what it means to be alive. Thank you Stevie Ray.

@@joshmuz9018 science has NOTHING to do with music in practice. All instruments are needed in different music scenarios. That is, if you know how to play them, feel the rhythm and have a soul that vibrates to the fuckin notes and silence between them man. WAKE THE FUCK UP. whoever wants to make music into science will be smacked over the head by talented musicians notes like Stevie's for instance and make them realise they know and feel nothing at all. Many hear music little listen and music isn't for the "many" anyway.

My name is Derek Caldwell Sr.
    My story goes like this.
I have 5 kids and I was addicted to drugs. I was in such a bad place in my life. I love my kids and my wife of 18 years. I have a real passion for Stevie's playing. One day I was so depressed I was listening to him and I heard one of his talks that he does when he plays
"Life with out you". And he talked about how he almost died from cocaine and alcohol. I started crying and I just started to pray and between him and my family and God, I have been sober for five
Months. I know that ain't long but I went from living in a basement with my 4 kids at the time and my wife. I cried for them because they had it rough. I felt like less of a human. I thank God and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I will never forget what the power your music and fight for sobriety done for me. Love ya Stevie and may you rest in peace.
We have a home of our own and we both have a car and my kids have respect for there father now. To me that is priceless.
Bless you all who have left a positive comment about S.R.V.

Very little, if anything, touches what this guy pours out performance after performance. What a blessing he was here when he was, but what a shame he passed at a far too young an age. On top, he had a heart of gold and conquered demons of drug/alcohol issues. This band, as well as him, needs more recognition. Stevie's guitar playing is vicious and is 100% passion. Unbelievable.

Imagine being a student, professor and god of a genre and instrument, and you still treat it all like your a kid in your garage just jamming out because you simply love playing and jamming with pals. No cheesy chord arrangements generated by the music executives for you to play, no worrying about playing the hits to sell records, no worrying about keeping the song under 4 minutes, no playing to click tracks. Just a guy who probably wore that same outfit off the tour bus- ate his morning bacon, eggs, toast and coffee at the local joint in them, and came on stage to share with that room his joy of playing; while literally leaving nothing left in the tank. Probably grabbed a burger and fries after the show, hopped in the bus with the band and went to the next bar or small joint to humbly blow more minds. Probably cost those folks 10 bucks and a couple beers to sit there and experience something they've never heard or experienced since.
You don't get people this skilled, grounded and humble at the upper echelons of talent these days, that also have the creative domain to play whatever the hell they want, and share it so completely. We need this authenticity back.

Check out Billy Strings if you haven't already.. In no way would I ever compare the 2, due to possibly every single thing about them is different besides their love for the guitar.. but Billy is one of the cleanest flat pickers that I have listened to.. Plays on an acoustic. Plays bluegrass but it's more of a hybrid bluegrass/rock or something. Definitely worth a listen for sure. Some songs I like are Home, Turmoil & Tinfoil, Meet me at the Creek, Dust in a Baggie.

I was touring Europe, 1990. Returned to London and staying with a friend from South Africa. Headed out to book for the STV concert which I had planned to be back for. My friend met me down the road. Returning from work, by chance. I explained I was heading out to by my ticket. He gave me the news....
Cold Shot was the first song I had heard from this man. And was blown away. And it was a Cold Shot indeed to heart of the sad end to this possibly greatest rock guitarist that ever lived.
