You can not like this because it's a classic case of clashing contemporaries. This is an entirely inappropriate duo. Albert's legend stands taller than Stevie's, and always will. But he's of a very different era and mentality which simply does not work in the context of Vaughn's explosive funk-blues. King was many wonderful things on the fretboard, but "diverse" was not one of them. He played the blues, and only one style of it. He did it as well as anyone ever could, or probably ever will again, but still, he could not play outside of that. It's a cool novelty to see two blues legends on stage together just the same, sure. But this isn't good music and there's a lot of very silly people in this comment section who've allowed novelty to turn off their ears, and celebrity to cloud their better judgement.

Sorry that we are all not as enlightened as you oh Lord Jai Guru; may you grace us with your great knowledge of how music should sound/does sound to the relative ear! I for one find it true that opposites attract, that sweet and salty do in fact go well together and that SRV and Albert King, though opposite in approach, connect Blues through this unique timeline of blues shown throughout this video. Being that King was old style and limited in his capability of moving from style to style... I believe SRV did a fairly great job in not over accentuating his very much louder and more funk-blues style playing. To hear a base track laid out by very good musicians, and to have that be the bridge that allows blues to encompass sixty years of culture is beautiful. These two styles meet in this middle ground that two masters have created in this room. Isn't Blues full of soul and emotion? I look at this like there is a soul that is pushing at the gate to wail (SRV) and does; then we see the emotion of a reserved, continually oppressed man (given the times in which Nelson was alive) being brought out in a powerful yet reserved way. This is history as the OP said.

What can be said about this session that hasn't been said already. Both Albert and Stevie both shredding and making both guitars just scream with heart felt emotion. Just like two great guitarists. they just flow with each other. I love how Stevie Ray is just studying and showing admiration as well as respect When Albert is taking the lead And Albert stands up and he gets Stevie Ray up too.. And only in the blues can you play a 4 minute song and turn it into a 15 minute song and at the end of the 15 minutes and at the end of those 15 minutes you wish they could have turned it into a 20 minute song and never get tired of it.Great video and RIP both Albert and Stevie Ray. I am waiting in anticipation until its my time to go to heaven and see the super group they have up there . Albert KIng, Stevie Ray Vaughn , Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley , John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf.....and up there I'm sure Chuck Berry and Elvis will be part of the super group too and fill in any of the other greats.....I still hope thats a long time away but until then. think how heavenly that group would be.

The Godfather is AK, but his greatness is to recocgnise a true genuine talent like SRV and saying "you re going to be even better" The message from both monsters is: You can be skillful but that doesn't mean anything if you don't welcome new talents (AK) and if you don't show respect for the elders (SRV).
