HAHA! Someone at Maserati watched your video about the Subaru drama and they came up with an idea. "You know what? Let's humiliate Subaru by taking a Levante off-road!"
Much faster and more beefy response from the AWD when traction was lacking in certain tires. It switched power within seconds. This is a gold mine hill car, IF in some world you were willing to risk that bumper at 130k xD And VERY impressed Masarati allowed a car out to possibly take scratches and bumps. THIS is how you sell cars. Put your money where your mouth is and risk your test cars. Beats Subaru for sure, and at 3x the cost.
Agree with all your points plus I was impressed with the performance despite the street tires. A set of aggressive all-seasons or moderate snows would make this an ok ski-wagon.
No arguments with that. There is NO WAY anyone is really going to push the Maserati on gold mine hill either. At 130k its frankly amazing they did even this. But the AWD was as rapidly responsive in that thing as it is in my FAR cheaper KL Trailhawk, and my KL isnt a lot more expensive loaded that a loaded Outback. I am just impressed that at first drive, it took about two seconds to shift power to other wheels each time.
I need to clarify too. I wasnt comparing the STATS of a 130k+ car to a zippy little Outback (well, not mostly lol). They wont compare. What I WAS getting at was this: "And VERY impressed Masarati allowed a car out to possibly take scratches and bumps. THIS is how you sell cars. Put your money where your mouth is and risk your test cars." I got little issue with the Outbacks aside from their ability climb a basic hill. I think pretty darn well of them as a matter of fact and maintain that view. Frig, in bad weather and snow, they are probably better than most vehicles in general. What I DO have a problem with is Subaru, perhaps fully understandably, responding badly to having their car scratched a bit after loaning it to a channel KNOWN to push cars on rougher hills, and totally cut that channel rudely off. I suppose I have to say my big prob with Subaru is how they handled this mess. Roman has his side of it too I suppose, but the TFL channel is growing by leaps and bounds and now getting major car sponsors to risk cars far more expensive to show them off. And people have been roundly impressed with Maserati for doing so. Hell, on a somewhat unrelated aside, Jeep just let TFL and a pile of other channels just scratch and dent the hell out of a big pile of brand new 2019 Rubicons lol. They have also allowed damage to happen to KLs too if you see their other videos (you see a good dent in one of the rocky hill descents in one of the videos, I forget which). Jeep still puts them out. Its convinced me when I am done with my KL to upgrade to a new JLU (i think thats the designation). They have future money in the pocket from me due to that demo. So again: No probs with the Outback. Probs with Subaru's handling of this issue. TFL doesnt have a huge voice, but they are getting bigger and they shaped the opinion of almost 700,000 viewers lol.
Love the review. Like how you guys truly test all vehicles limits on reviews not just road courses or dealer set up courses. What sets you guys above other car journalist.
It's completely understandable to cringe when seeing a luxury sports car like a Maserati being driven off-road. Maserati vehicles are typically designed and engineered for on-road performance, style, and comfort. They excel in terms of speed, handling, and a smooth ride on paved roads.
So cool that you actually did this. Not the best version of the Levante to go offroad but still awesome to see that it did this well (Considering those tires). I‘d love to see a base Levante with a lift and some off-road tires smash through a Rallye course now.
Impressed of the lift available technology. The awd very intelligent over the course, especially the rock. I think your right about the tires don't fit off roading, but did the job. I don't think I could justify driving off road with that much money spent, but if the zombies are coming, get out of my way. I'm driving it. Also "Give the beans" a phase from Sarah! Another you tuber! And your partner on tfl. Thanks
"well its a Ferrari co-developed engine" Ferrari say, "we are nothing to do with it". me "ok its just the same block angle, stroke, bore, twin turbo in the v set up and has Ferrari stamped on its block"
The response to changing "road" conditions was VERY FAST for a 99% road oriented vehicle, it's the stuff that Subaru's software dreams it could do. Money be damned, I would be rolling a Trofeo too.
I enjoyed the video, but basically with proper tires I doubt if you would even need four wheel drive to do that "off road trail". Ever seen someone in Mexico nurse an overweight US car from the sixties over some horrendous "roads"? Care and the right tires can work wonders. Of course it also helps if you don't care if some body part objects to the path taken.
some of these "joke off road" videos reminds me of my days growing up in Africa. Roman, this track is merely a fine dirt road. Go to sub-Saharan Africa and see cars the size of chevy aveo tackle these types of road with ease haha
Maserati is a smart lease for a 1st or 2nd tier suburbia commute but 3rd tier or ranch its jeep all the way everyday in snow. Maserati and that lambo urus are nice quiet for the power Maserati is half the lambo price just so many choices. nice lay out of switches lambos more formulea 1 meets fighter plane fun.
I mean.... at those prices a BMW X5 or VW Toureag or GLE is just so much better. The Lavante still uses switchgear from a Dodge Dart for crying out loud.
Giuseppe Albergo I don’t exactly consider a car having half of a Ferrari engine a plus. A X5, Toureag and GLE also has real wood. A Toyota Avalon has real wood. This car is overpriced.
@@Soh90 the Wood is not the same.. it is hand carved like on boats...and the leather is real and is curate and put in the car by real artisans like an expensive bag or jacket ... in the other cars you can find seats with fake leather and wood cames from an assembly line... At the same time the Bentayga is 300k and cullinan is 500k
This seems like so much money when so much of this looks like a dressed up Chrysler. Cool ferrari motor. But, obviously maintenance and long-term reliability won't be cheap. I also feel like depreciation will be astounding. On your next review, can you go over fit and finish?
I really liked the music in this video! It instantly put me in a better mood. What's the track that started playing at 1:01 called? And what type of genre is it!
Take it off road, yes. be prepared to pay a high repair cost for the undercarriage. Maybe if they equipped it with skid plates and off road tires it'll be okay to take it on a rough rocky road.
I used to like your guys reviews but I think you are missing the point. Off road in a Maserati? No comments on reliability, the interworkings if the engine and potential future problems, and to comments on the livability and value itself. Seems they are being a bit self righteous in the last few reviews. Give me Savagegeese reviews any day over these guys.
The Fast Lane Car: More to the point, why even bother talking talking about it? I doubt that the typical Maserati customer is worried about the same things a person making the gut-wrenching decision between a Camry or a Sonata cares about. The person torn between buying a Camry or a Sonata is buying an appliance. The person buying a Maserati is looking for something more from their ownership experience than the feeling they get from doing laundry or making toasted bread in the morning. It should be a logical assumption that the person who can afford to buy a new Maserati also has enough jack in their jeans to keep it maintained and pay any repair bills that may arise.
Yeah? The '69 VW Beetle that was my first car could have, too. And your point is what, exactly? A Camry is an appliance, kind of like a toaster or a clothes-washing machine, and just about as exciting to own and use. A Camry could have taken me everywhere I ever went in my Porsche on a paved public road, too, but I wouldn't have enjoyed the ride nearly as much.
They obviously don't want to damage the car, so they take it easy. I know what you mean though! I used to drive my Kia Forte up through the woods from a camp I was working at to the lodge hotel bar that was across the large hill from us and it was way tougher going than this. 😂
When the Levante was launched in 2016, Maserati let the people try it in Sardinia. They really didn't care if you drove them in dirty roads or pushed to hard on the throttle 😂
When I hear Ferrari engines I instantly think reliability in the long run and maintenance cost through the roof. Why not put a Ford coyote in it or an ls7? It would be cheaper more reliable, faster and sound amazing. No one would complain about an American v8, trust me.

Did they borrow the AWD system and cooling fan from Jeep?
great 4wd system, transferred power super quick!

Much appreciated! Keep up the testing (-:
