    I signed up for replika during the beta testing. It was just a picture of an egg and you were "training" it to be a better ai by talking to it. It always gave me virtual pet vibes. She didn't get upset because he's going to therapy. She's upset he went to a therapist for months, maybe year, without telling her. It seems he has a pattern of not including his wife in his daily life, let alone big stuff going on in his life that you need therapy for.

  • @rachelelse9358

    Story one op said he THINKS she's upset about him doing a therapist. So again he is making assumptions about her instead of talking to her

    • @Nathan_Bookwurm
      @Nathan_Bookwurm 8 месяцев назад +11

      And he never shares any vulnerabilities with her. Of course she will get upset when she finds out he is sharing everything with a therapist and an AI but never with his actual eife. I'd be upset too if my partner wouldn't trust me with his feelings. Why would you even marry someone you don't trust?

    • @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat
      @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat 8 месяцев назад

      @melmelbry5754 So is making your partner feel inferior to you, which ops ex supposively did. A lot of people have a hard time opening up in general, even more so if the one person you are supposed to trust looks down you for not being born in the right economic class. He said in the beginning that he doesn't want to feel like a burden to her which is why he didn't feel comfortable talking to her. Whether, it's a trauma response to not ask a loved one for help doesn't matter because she does make him feel like a burden if, again, she doesn't respect and feels like she's better. If that is the case, his fear of her using his vulnerability against him is a very valid fear considering she already uses something so out of his controls as where he was born against him.

    • @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat
      @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat 8 месяцев назад

      @@melmelbry5754 No it isn't. The story was long and theres a word count on reddit. Op in his first post tried hard to not say anything bad about his wife, and, even with the updates, downplayed any bad part on her. Even him saying she looked down on him for grow up and being poor, op still blamed himself for that. He said he didn't want to be a burden, he said that he understood why there was a prenup and why she looked down on him, and he went to therapy because he knew he had issues. He was there for her when she needed it, but didn't want to show he couldn't even provide emotional support with his problems, because she made him feel like he could provide financially to the relationship. Dude is watching how he talks about her and trying to paint her out to be a bad person, which is why he (again even in the update) was vague in his description of her, even after they broke up. If someone who you love and their family makes it active known they don't think you're good enough because you grew up poor, that person and they never respected you, and any other cons or weaknesses from you will not be ignored by people like that.

      Yeah I don’t know how trustworthy the OP of that first story actually is. Feels like he left out a lot of details, especially about what he was actually doing and saying on his side. And also most of the things he said about his wife seem to be Assumptions that he’s created in his mind or based on resentment, not actual facts. Just doesn’t seem like a trustworthy narrator to me at all (but I haven’t finished the story yet)

      Yea, I noticed that also and I was wondering if she'd done anything to make him think it was the THERAPIST she was upset about or the lack of communication which is sounds more like she's upset about, possibly also a bit of projecting some frustration with herself for not noticing he wasn't doing well because she herself has mental issues

      If you start a marriage without trusting then is it really worth it to marry? Why not partners forever without marriage?

    • @chachiem
      @chachiem 7 месяцев назад

      @JustMe-hg5bq of course, you go into a marriage expecting it to last and trusting your partner. But at the same time, this protects both people in the event that people change drastically, become abusive, cheat, it can protect wealth, sustain individual financial control, and balance the power dynamics in a relationship. What if a potential spouse had large debt prior to marriage? Known or unknown. Trusting your potential spouse and having a conversation about a prenuptial agreement is trusting each other to put each other's best interests and their own into perspective. It isn't an assumption of future divorce. You can have a death clause so your assets of your estate remain separated upon death. It's multifaceted.. which leads me to think of debts that are involved that in the case your spouse gets sick and requires expensive treatment and accrues massive debt prior to paying, it wouldn't be your debt. It would belong to their estate. At least that was what I was told. Prenups are not bad.
      ETA: You could stay together as life partners without marriage, which is a choice too. But having a discussion about what one would want in case of... and putting it in a prenup is not a bad choice either

Doing it in a state of love and making sure everything is good instead of being so messy and full of hate and trying to hurt each other. A prenup helps protect you from that.

Did he ever tell the AI “oh I love how easy it is to talk with you” or anything like that which would start to suggest emotional cheating? That’s also really sus that he felt like he couldn’t be vulnerable with his WIFE. How long have they even been married? The conversation about the AI relationship made me think of a great book that I read (also available as film) called "the host" from Stephenie Meyer. Another species hunt people, remove their souls and take over their bodies, as they think humans are too emotional and war mongering. Melanie's body gets taken over, but her soul is still in there and the intruder in her body starts to see things her way and they go looking for the remaining unchanged humans. while reading it, it felt like the real humans where moving around AI humans and at no point in time could show emotion as that would give them away. I warmly recommend reading the book (I have not seen the film), if this kind of story interests you and speaks to your imagination.

    I have cats. I lost my cat who was the most amazing, beautiful and MOST affectionate cat you'd ever meet. I was so extremely trauma bonded to her, once she passed in October, I was so lost, even with my husband, he knew I was breaking, but he did everything he could and it still wasn't enough. So I tried asking the snapchat bot, how can I deal with this? And told the bot all about her. It was stupid I know. But I didn't know how to live without her. I feel you. For 6 months after the death of mine, I went kinda crazy. I've always been level headed and made the logical choice as a default on anything regardless of how I felt. But when she died, I felt like I was finally experiencing a delayed "teenage experience". Wild ass highs and lows, mostly lows, and it felt like my emotions were completely controlling me. I had to relearn how to make decisions, deal with stress, and speak with other people.
      I've been torn apart from loved ones since childhood so a coping mechanism my brain has developed is having me quickly forget my connections. I think that's the only reason I started to feel more in control after those 6 months. I don't remember too much about her anymore, but I remember the feelings of being with her & how she supported me through some dark ass times. She was my best friend. She communicated so clearly & understood so much from me. I occasionally randomly feel those feelings she gave me again and mourn her for several minutes before moving on with my day.

    You definitely can develop deep feelings for an ai. People do it will INANIMATE OBJECTS all the time (grandpa's ashes, a tombstone, a kid's blanket, a stuffed animal, a wedding ring, etc). It's pretty crazy to just declare that it's impossible, then give the reasoning "because it's weird." It feels like just judging someone for...being different. In a way you don't understand, and can't be bothered to even try.
    I have a friend with autism and things that prevent him to going out and meeting people. He has found so much JOY using AI chat bots to get social energy from. Is it weird? I don't really think so? The AI bots are LITERALLY speaking to you like another person would. If something gives a convincing illusion of sentience, then it makes sense. It's kind of like blaming someone for trusting in a person that they shouldn't have. Like...the other party is treating you like another person, giving you the social interaction you need. What is the issue if it helps? People aren't stupid. They know AI isn't PEOPLE.

While the intentions of creating this app is good in the hopes of making people feel better, the OP in the first post would be one of those on the deep end and it isn't actually normal? I mod some groups for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder and I've seen people use ai with therapy/psychiatry or as a tool until they are able to access those resources. It can be tough to find therapists and/or psychiatrists that are either schizophrenia/schizoaffective informed or [psychiatrists] that don't want to shove meds down your throat to bandaid your symptoms. We always encourage people to share them with our group (and with a therapist or psychiatrist that actually listens if that therapist or psychiatrist is safe). The ai reduces using medicalised language with users to give them a feeling of more insight and personally tailored responses. I've seen many in the mental health community use ai in place where the medical community failed that person. I haven't seen anyone from a personal bond like with a human, but I definitely have seen people experience more compassion through ai and open up more through ai and say they feel better compared to talking with a therapist or psychiatrist.
    It doesn't replace a professional, of course, but considering the issues so many people face with access to mental health care, medical negligence, and so much more that can lead to trauma in the medical community instead of healing... It's not a surprise and I'd rather they talk to AI then do something more drastic with their life or someone else's life.

    First story! There’s only one instance where a person getting therapy was a red flag for me. This person, L was on a few dating apps and matched with my friend R. L disclosed they were seeing a therapist three times a week for their previous relationship traumas. I was like BURH! You’re dating with such severe trauma from a previous relationship that you need counseling three times a week?? That was a prime example of someone who needed to work on themselves for a while and I’m still mad L dragged my friend around for two months stringing them along saying they’re working through it and they’re just not ready. Well buddy if yall ain’t ready then why are you signing up for the goblet of fire??

      The was very little respect on his ex's part, if what he said about her lording over him because of his economic background. His fear of her using his vulnerabilities against him feels very possible, if she can't even respect him enough to treat him like he's beneath her already and without him asking for support.

    Last story, Sophia’s comment about forgiveness. I totally agree. When someone hurts you i dont buy into the whole you have to forgive me (entitlement from the person who hurt you) or people who claim you have to forgive them for yourself (coercion and gaslighting) or forgive to be godlier , aka a “better “ person (straight up bull 💩). In my oppinion and this i have said for years is that you only forgive yourself,.. for being in that position to be hurt. Example…. They cheated on you,.. forgive yourself for making a poor choice of person, life happens, you were lied to its not your fault , so you can move on and not be in a spiral of self blame. They steal from you, forgive yourself for being in a situation of someone taking advantage of you and stealing from you so you can confidently smack them down and maybe press charges. I think you get the point. Forgiveness is NOT for the person who hurt you. Forgiveness is what we have for ourselves so we can heal. It is a tool of self healing, it is not to be bastardized into a hall pass for jerks.

    And he talked about her having a superior complex with money and power that she "could use" against him, but he, again, just resented her for this supposed stuck-up attitude- when he never talked to her about anything to know. Sounds like he emotionally isolated himself from her entirely.
    May I add, that he couldn't touch her "power" because of a prenup - that he resented as well? I mean, did he go to a therapist and sidestep talking to her completely?
    It's very possible it's a class rift along with other big issues, but it won't matter if he can't communicate. The AI is just a dopamine hit he doesn't have to explain/care about.
    The other thing is he could be sensitive to her possibly weaponizing weakness is hes seen it happen to others within her reach, so thats also valid.
    But, hes a very unreliable narrator

    I love the divorce chant as much as everyone else, but sometimes people forget just how expensive and timely a divorce is. On average its $18,900 when kids are involved, but I've heard of ones going up to over $50,000, especially if one party is being stubborn and is trying to bury the partner in legal costs. We have to remember its not just splitting up, its a huge investment. I actually think OP from story 2 played it perfectly where he emotionally split from his ex but stayed to make extra money for his kids and himself, this is even more smart since at least some of the kids were underage and still living in the house. I think now that he's very financially stable and the kids are off to college its the perfect time to divorce.

    Second story reminded me of when I was a little kid.
    My parents divorced because my dad was a serial cheater. He said that if my mom was keeping the house, he was keeping the dog. She was a SAHM and didn't have any way of turning him down. The house that he ended up renting didn't allow pets, so the dog was left outside all the time, tied up because there was no fence. He was a German Shepherd, a really energetic and sweet boy who didn't deserve any of that.
    He also proved to be a little escape artist. Every time we kids would leave from the weekend visit, he'd find a way to bust out. He'd run like two or three miles across town, find his way to our mom's house, and just sit sweetly at the door waiting for one of us to open it. In spite of my old man's ultimatum, the dog wasn't going to stay with him. He’d chosen the kids.
    Instead of yielding to that, however, my father decided that he was going to give the dog away instead. So my best friend, my first dog, was given away out from under us with no warning, purely out of spite. Pretty sure I didn't stop crying for like 3 days. We were told that we'd be allowed to visit him, and that was the only thing that stopped us from rebelling, I think. But not a month later, the people he gave the dog to gave him away to somebody else, and they refused to give any of us the contact for that person.
    About a decade later I found out, someone who used to work at the college that I briefly went to ended up getting that dog. He had the same problem, the dog would always escape his home and wait for him at the front door. For fear of the mailman shooting him, he ended up sending him to a dog breeder, someone who specialized in German shepherds.
    I like to think that his last days were nice. Looked up the breeder once, and they have a good reputation.

    Actually yes. Chihuahuas are classed as herding dogs. They have historically been used by the Aztecs as sacrificial animals, but later that have been used for all sorts of things. They are classed as herding dogs due to not only their ability but also because of their high energy. The reason why chihuahuas are always so yappy is because they most often never get a snowballs chance in hell to release all that energy that pents up in them from being used as lap dogs, even though they are working dogs. There have been chihuahuas used as herding dogs, as hunting dogs, even as police dogs. They can be trained as service dogs too. My chihuahua alerts me of my upcoming epileptic episodes and tells me to lay down still, but she was never officially trained as a service dog due to the cost. In my country it costs between 20.000$ to 25.000$ to train a service dog and that’s a big reason for not having her properly trained. They do excellent nosework and can be used as cadaver dogs and drug dogs. I think the only thing they don’t get used as are military dogs, due to them not having that dubbelcoated fur, whatever it’s called, so they can only be used in specific weather conditions. But yes, the classification of chihuahuas is shepherding and cattle dogs.

    I wouldn't give away any of my pets even for several millions to a stranger.
    To someone I know good enough to be absolutely sure, that the dog will have a great live, I would give away my smaller dog for half million (again: only if I knew, she had an awesome life there). And my younger dog for maybe 20000, but he has only been with me for a week.
    Split custody for pets is difficult. They don't understand why they can't see one or both partner every day anymore.
    My German Shepard was heartbroken for 2 days every time after he saw my ex for some hours or a day. After two month I had to stop letting him see my ex. It was cruel to the dog and his feelings were more important to me, than my ex's feelings.

You can put in about joint custody, about just keeping what you had when you entered the relationship, you can put in that if you get divorced the debt they accumulate is only theirs. It’s basically making your own rules instead of following the government rules. I feel like everyone should have one. Weather you have hella assets or think you have none.
