Ok when I was 7 I was hospitalized and my kidneys were failing. I had a cousin who had the same condition and had passed away of it 10 years earlier. I got lucky and an experimental surgery saved my life. My parents had to be with me in the hospital a lot. But they made sure that my older brother was showed love too. He would come visit me and we would just hang out in the hospital playing games. My grandparents took him for a few weeks and spoiled him while I had my surgery. My parents made sure he knew he was loved and was a great kid. When he got to visit me after staying with our grandparents he would tell me the places he got to go and the fun activities. He started to make a list of everything so once I was better I could do it too when we went on vacation. When parents concentrate on one child and ignore the rest you are just setting up for your family to be broken.

I’m truly glad that surgery worked do you remember what it’s called? I have a close childhood friend whose little brother has kidney problems since he was born and so it might be something for them to look into depending on a variety of things.
I’m so glad your family was so amazing to you and your brother. They did the right things every step of the way. I do feel like they all probably worried so much about both of you. A good parent always worry’s about all their kids for a variety of reasons. I hope you and your wonderful family keep living fabulously blessed lives.

It was called a mega ureter repair. They took the tubes attached to the kidneys out reshaped them and put them back in. I went into shock on the right one was dead for about a minuet they brought me back and finished.

@@srose1088 6:06 i’m married to an identical twin. Once you know them they’re completely different. And super easy for me to tell apart I do know people who are related to them that have a hard time telling them apart. I think it was probably harder to tell them apart when they were children judging by their pictures but in videos I can tell which one my husband is by certain identifying characteristics but as they get older and now that they’re grown-ups it’s probably much easier to tell them apart. I have absolutely no attraction to my husband‘s identical, twin brother. I think my husband is the sexiest man alive and his twin brother is literally a little brother to me. they have a lot of similar features, but they’re both very different and a lot of ways. I could tell them both apart a week after meeting them. We were coworkers and my brother in law actually worked there maybe a year before my husband got a job with us.

Health issues are not an excuse for cheating, let alone with your sister's boyfriend.
My mom was the sick kid. She had to wait for science to catch up. She was 8 when she got the surgery that they now preform on newborns.
My mom was also disgusted with this story when I told her.

I am glad that OP is getting therapy focusing on how family interaction affects her behavior. This comes from someone who studies psychology and only works with people dealing with addiction. I have to agree that while cognitive psychology can help many people, it will not be a good fit for her. She needed to find out how she was outside of her family. As such, meeting with someone who showed her the different roles that family had for her. Showing that it is not her fault that the family just saw her as a part of the family unit so much that they forgot her as an individual will help her gain the right tools to see herself and learn she has the right to take care of herself.
The sad thing is that the very reason that the parents are so overprotective of the step-sister is just that they are so entangled with the sister's needs while she was going through cancer. They never saw this as a bad thing to learn to not teach her independence. As such, she understands the idea of taking accountability for her actions.

I discovered the word niblings this passed year. I have 6 nieces and nephews but its so much easier typing my niblings instead. I use it a lot now.
Also I have a disability and have two sisters. We are very close. They're the best. I was sick a lot growin up as a result monopolized my parents attention. But they always made it up to them. They raised us as equals. I am so glad I had my parents. On the flip side my mom's parents tended to do the opposite. I was treating better by my maternal grandmother than my sister's were and they don't have a relationship now because of that. At a certain age it became apparent to me and I tried to fix it but it never really worked.

Like, yeah, she had cancer. But how bad of a thing would she have to do for them to NOT stick up for and defend her actions? Shoot someone? Abuse the husband she cheated with? Abuse a child? Gaslight the whole family? Like, the situation is SO FUCKING CLEAR that she is in the wrong...but not a SINGLE PERSON except for MAYBE ONE, admits she did a bad thing. A very very bad thing. I feel so bad for OP in that last story. My brothers were diagnosed with adhd and autism (respectively) and growing up I had to step up to take care of them both while my emotional needs weren't met. It's not fair to have to deal with that much neglect from your parents. Yes, it's really unfortunate that OP's brother is dying, but the mom's comment calling her selfish and jealous when she mentioned she felt neglected was uncalled for.

In 2012, my oldest daughter passed away. Needless to say, I was a zombie--blind to the world and to anyone else's feelings about it. My best friend sat me down about 3 or 4 weeks into that state. She said if I didn't snap out of it, I was going to lose BOTH daughters. My youngest had been invisible to me in my pain. Looking back on that time fills me with shame. I am ashamed to say that I relate to many of these terrible parent stories because, for a while, I was one. I am not excusing them or myself. I will say that so many things about grief are fucked up. I went through a time where even giving in to happy thoughts felt like a betrayal because my oldest daughter couldn't ever experience them and I allowed my youngest to feel that from me. I had always been "the string one" and resisted therapy for a long time because "strong people don't " was something my parents said to me during that time. It's gross. I was gross. My relationship with my daughter is so good now. Therapy is necessary, and truly, I hope everyone in those stories gets the help they need.

The second story reminds me of my college days, had a classmate who during a presentation asked to pay homage to his mother that recently died of cancer, he told a sad story, the whole class cried and prayed for her soul and than on the next week we found out his mother was very much alive and well and picking him up from school, and he stopped coming to class until we had someone from the school administration come and tell us that he has a psychological problem that makes him need peoples pity, so he tells lies like this, including pretend he had cancer in his high school, it was so weird, after graduation I see him at church, and his mother doesn't seems normal either because she tried to take my baby from my arms at church and I don't even know her besides saying hello at church sometimes...

30mins to an hour of quality time (no electronics). i do this as part of my two year olds bedtime routine. i plan to do it after school when she’s older help with homework etc. not every night we get to it. sometimes she’s too tired and sometimes i am. it is always a goal though and something we both look forward to. i can say for certain though it was soooo hard for me to keep my commitment to it when i had two miscarriages back to back. lots of nights it was just brush teeth together and making her bed together before i headed to my room. it’s easier again now and we are back to playing dino’s and “shopping“ most nights. as a parent you always want to give everything you have and not every night you have a lot to give.

My ex boyfriends cousin pretended to have cancer so he could move in and mooch off of him and get sympathy and a free place to live.
My best friend of 20 years and many of my family members were avid hard drug users and I saw signs of herione and meth abuse. I tried to tell Andy (my ex) but he wouldn't listen to me.
We were engaged when his cousin came back into his life. The whole thing ended our relationship because Andy was convinced I was a crazy jealous bitch for having to share him with his cousin and told me as much.
Years later I found out I was right. Andy never reached out to confirm or apoligize. Which was crazy because we were friends for 5 years before we even dated.

Health issues with one child are not a reason to completely neglect another especially going through something like cancer. Yes the parents are losing a child but their other child is losing a sibling. They need to check in. This is so heavy I’d be worried I’d lose both of my children focusing only on one 😔

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is a form of therapy that works on changing behavior in reaction to feelings rather than directly on feelings.
Most experienced therapists use some form of it within regular old talk therapy and don't tell you because you don't really need to know what it is for it to help you.

This happened to me except she didn’t have cancer and she was “like a sister” aka a friend that looked like me. She took my ex, some friends, and some of my family too. It’s creepy. Then gas lights me and acts like I am immature for being upset with her, not wanting to be her friend anymore.

I never had more than two friends maybe a few acquaintances that come and go. Unfortunately I had to make the hard choice to let those two friends go one being a childhood friend of mine for 17 years. It hurts because i sent her a message of why i was hurting and why I think it's best to step away and she was ok with dropping me so quickly. Its also quite clear they see me as the bad guy and I don't understand why. I wish I had some closer on the things they've been hiding from me and what they actually thought of me as friend but I'll just have to deal with it and move on. 17 years is just a long time to heal from.

Who are these horrible parents? How does anyone get such a warped view of the their children. It's so lopsided and sounds like it always was. Also, the sister is just as horrible as her parents and relatives. OP seems to not matter at all to the family while cancer girl gets to be villain they defend for being horrible. I'm appalled. I can't believe this is real.

FYI you can lose weight when pregnant due to HG severe morning sickness I had it in both my pregnancy’s and I vomited every day all day until the day both my babies were born. I lost 10kg in the first trimester with my daughter and 13kg in the first 4 weeks of pregnancy with my son.

I'm before the update, but my conspiracy theory is that the sister put a hole in the rubber and planned to do this.
If not, I don't want to scare anyone, but there is still a chance to get pregnant while using condoms. XD We have a friend who was on birth control pills, and her and her partner were using condoms. They STILL got pregnant. It can happen, just a veeeeeery low chance.

Very true all my niblings were conceived while their parents were using birth control. Everything from the pill with condoms to the bc ring. My oldest niece got pregnant at 20 while on the pill also. So 3 niblings and a grand nephew all bc fails. Meanwhile I've wanted kids since I was 2 and my sis was born and have been in 2 long term relationships in the past 22 years with a total of 3 years on depo rest of the time no bc and have no children.

CBT sucks because they basically give you homework to do. And when you are so depressed that even basic things take up so much energy, it doesn't help you at all 😂.
It probably does work for some people.
