    Story 1: I lived in a townhouse with my mom when my dad and stepmom ended up renting a house in the same block of townhomes (literally didn't even have to leave the sidewalk to go back in forth). The custody lines basically vanished, my stepmom and I would have spa nights on nights my mom wanted to go out, and my mom would babysit my dad's other kids that he had with his new wife. I can't even imagine my stepmom acting like OPs new wife 😂 My mom and stepmom are best friends to this day. I'm 30 and my stepmom still calls me her first born daughter (jokingly of course) and her and my mom are best friends even after my dad and stepmom divorced.

    My parents split up and I didn’t know why. I just knew they were fighting over something, it was horrible and us kids were pawns. Way too involved. After they got back together, about a year later, I had a fight with my mom, and she said, ‘it’s not MY fault your father fucked around on me last year!!!’ That destroyed me. I was 11 or 12, maybe even 13, I can’t remember. But I broke with that revelation because he was my hero, after that my relationship with him was tainted. He told me that he had quit smoking and I no longer trusted him so I went snooping and of course, found cigarettes. I went through a lot of years of grief. They eventually split for good when I was 16 and that was somehow even messier than when I was a child. I was an even bigger pawn. The other only wanted custody of me so that the other wouldn’t have me. Do NOT involve children in situations they have no control over and can do nothing about. Do NOT involve them in adult problems. They have no power over them and it only causes them immense pain and frustration they are not equipped to handle. I got a PTSD diagnosis and was highly wanting to end my life for a very long time, I later became an addict which is not my parents fault but that pain of everything I’d been through, including childhood shmex abuse from someone else stayed with me. I am sober now, better than I’ve ever been mentally, and I love my family. Parents are not perfect. They made big mistakes. But if I can tell anyone this who might listen and not make those same mistakes, please please hear me. PTSD, anxiety, depression and addiction ruled my life along with serious mental illness for a long time. I can’t get those years back.

      Breaks my heart. Further breaks it that you’re nowhere near alone in this. I carried my own trauma into a traumatic marriage, with children…and 100% everything ill affecting you in your relationship, ill affects the kids. You can either protect them as best you can, focusing on their healing & yours, at that already latent point or…you can compound their struggles & raise the risk of all manner of things they alone will have to endure by involving them further, in adult & completely separate issues they never deserved to be affected by in any amount.
      I’ve been witness to my children’s suffering & I can tell you intent really does not negate impact, as I’ve worked so, so hard to protect them & help them heal in innumerable ways, through numerous opportunities, looking under every freaking rock, gaining every ounce of education I could etc. I couldn’t fathom what suffering they would endure had I not…because what they endure now is more than too much. This world is one effed up ride.
      I’m so sorry but so glad that you’ve found a healing path & I really hope you find even more healing and in ways that you never thought possible. I hope one day you live in perpetual awe & love & safety, missy. -I read your comment and it’s never too late to do better & never are there no opportunities to.

    Not wanting to get married because of the possibility of divorce makes no sense. Nonmarriage relationships end, too. You are just missing out on all the benefits of marriage and can still get cheated on, abandoned, broken up with, etc.

    • @heatherbonelli
      @heatherbonelli 5 месяцев назад

      OR as someone who has NOT wanted to get married but in a very healthy happy relationship if 20 years feel it's WAY worse to get married unless you both have great credit. Commitment is moral, a piece of paper doesn't keep you committed or just makes it a nightmare to break up... And I'm not that manipulative,I'm DEFINITELY not religious, and don't need the government to combine us as one when we already are. My biggest thing is I'm a HUGE anti wedding fan, I haaaaate weddings. ONE day where you spend astronomical amount of money so you can show off for other people, and wear a ring that is only to show off that cost way too much money (I hate the idea of super expensive jewelry as a symbol, they're are SO many better ways to honor each other and show your commitment), you wear a dress you'll only wear once that costs way too much money (it's been proven the wedding industry Jack's prices up for EVERYTHING just because ppl are "willing" to pay more... That's insane) and nothing grosses me out more than the concept of wasting money to show off... It's fine for someone else, just never been anything I want any part of. The only "benefit" of being married is when they die your can collect their social security. Whoo hoo!

    • @Karamarika
      @Karamarika 5 месяцев назад +1

      @heatherbonelli idk what your credit has to do with getting married. Yes, breaking up is a lot harder when you're married. That's kind of the point. There are other benefits, like legal protections for your marital assets, tax benefits, being the automatic next of kin for your spouse, etc.
      You don't have to spend a lot of money on a wedding or your ring. My husband and I got married at the county clerk's office and went to work afterward. We had simple gold bands, and my engagement ring was about $700. We used that purchase to help build our nonexistent credit. We didn't have the means to pay for a big wedding. No one is forcing anyone to spend a lot on their wedding. We are all free to make our own choices.
      However, all of your issues with marriage are not anything that I addressed here originally. You're free to do as you wish in your own relationship.

    That last OP has no respect for his mom. His dad basically bragged to him about cheating and the OPs only concern was not getting caught helping. It even sounded like he justified it with them not getting along recently.
    I feel like the OP probably takes after the dad and is a cheater too. Faithful people wouldn't keep quiet about that. Especially if it's one of their parents being cheated on.

    Once kids hit 13+ they have the right to know why their parents are divorcing. They’re the casualties of the split and will have to deal with the fallout

    • @themissydeyo
      @themissydeyo 5 месяцев назад +8

      WRONG. Wrong. You should never ever involve your kids in situations they have no power over. All you need to tell them is that something happened between the two parents that they can’t cope with as a married couple anymore. When they are adults with fully developed brains and fully intact emotional stability, THEN you can tell them, but as an adult all you are doing is burdening a minor who is NOT equipped to handle that emotional pain, bitterness and resentment. I shared my story in another comment. You can be honest with your kids to a degree but there can be very serious consequences to children and their mental health and self worth and sense of stability when you burden them with situations they have no control over, even if it is the truth. You can tell them a degree of the truth but every good psychologist will tell you that you shouldn’t involve children in adult situations because you have no idea how the child will cope and because it will usually greatly harm the relationship to not only the parent that cheated but often and especially with the parent who told them. I was that child and I was not prepared, it broke me. The stress, fear, anxiety and resentment. The shock, the pain, the grief. I couldn’t handle it. You are giving advice assuming children are relatively grown and mature at 13 but very few are and their brains still have another 10+ years of critical development ahead which by extension means their sense of self and self worth. Do not do this. Do not.

    • @umopepisdn.
      @umopepisdn. 5 месяцев назад +4

      As a child of divorced parents, I disagree. I would not want to be involved in my parents problems. Unfortunately, I was. And I had to grow up too fast because of it. Unless one parent is abusive, the children should be encouraged to have relationships with both their parents and should not be involved in the drama. Oftentimes, divorces aren't so clear cut either and the parents will blame each other.

    As a child of a cheater, I think the kids should know. If my mom had hid that information from me I would have felt betrayed by both of them. My situation is a bit different though as he pretty much gave her cancer through the stds (it isn’t cancer but very very abnormal cells that have been under watch since he cheated, they keep getting worse. I know she will eventually get cancer from it.).
    Edit: The reason my situation is different is because of the multiple health issues he gave her, the probable cancer being the worst.

    Second story reminds me of my friend's parents. During the summer, she and her mom would go to her mother's home country and stay at the house that her father bought for her uncle. She would do whatever to keep herself entertained while her mom spent time with her uncle and other family members.
    Then, a few years after she moved out at 18, her mom borrowed her camera. When she got it back, there were lots of photos of documents still on it including one that showed that the man they used to stay with in the summers was actually her mom's second husband. Her mom had been married to two men at the same time for YEARS and YEARS. I'm not even sure how that lines up with her prior marriage because she was married to a different man than my friend's father or "uncle" when she first met my friend's father and she divorced him to marry my friend's dad.
    I guess she managed to make it work since the marriages were all to men in different countries. 😵‍💫

    You’re saying that OP 1 is so self aware…however…if he’s so self aware…why isn’t he mourning what his daughter’s are going through vs how sad he is not to have a relationship with them. They lost the father they, at one point, thought they had…he’s a grown adult that sounds as though he’s dabbling in a bit of inner-flection…but don’t bravo that. That’s the bare of the bare minimum. Men need to stop being given all these accolades for doing the barest of minimums. They’re being treated like lil itty bitty children, in that respect. Men DESPERATELY need and deserve healing…and that needs to be normalized & taboos stripped away. But all of that needs to be done by men & men alone & until we’re in a completely separate, totally evolved era, one with which none of us will likely exist in, where men have finally figured out beyond the bare minimum, left selfishness, greed, ego & even the thought of harming anyone long in the dust…no accolades. No hand holding. It’s not cruel to demand they do this on their own…it’s literally the only way they’ll come to any reality within the subject. Women have been excusing (not their fault) a multitude of behaviors & acts of men for a multitude of eons, patting them along the years & attempting to give them the same love their parents were charged with. Not working. Hasn’t worked yet. Women & children, on the other hand, the 2 sects of humans having endured the most at the hands and minds of men, have fought their ways & suffered far too much to be looking out for anyone other than themselves and each other. -Those kids of his…they will carry the trauma, the heartbreak of his actions & the other consequences of them, by themselves. No one will ever gain access in order to heal those children’s hearts…it’s done & is now their responsibility, as undue as it all is. Furthermore, their world view will forever be affected by his actions. Thank gawd they have a strong and convicted mother as an alter example. If anyone will get them the resources they deserve to heal, it’ll be her…all the while the father, asking all the wrong questions, all pointed inward towards his sadness. Whatever he does from here on out will be to gain their affections, back…not heal their wounds.
