- Meta Quest 3 reviewed by Eric Song.
"The Quest 3 continues Meta’s legacy of offering a cost-effective headset that doesn’t require an expensive gaming PC, but can still benefit from one if you have it. That’s a unique feature that sets it apart from almost every other VR headset out there, other than its own predecessors. The Quest 3 goes even further by offering us a ticket to mixed-reality gaming with a full-color passthrough mode that’s sharp enough to read things in the world around you, the lightest and most precisely tracked controllers available, and more. The sheer amount of upgrades are well worth the $200 generational price increase. For everyone else who is willing to make the splurge, the Quest 3 sets the new standard for VR and mixed reality gaming." - Наука
For the record, all of the accessories he mentioned are vastly cheaper with 3rd companies.
and sometimes even better quality (elite strap)
Also keep in mind that soon some accesories from 3rd parties will be compatible with the Quest 3.
For example, BOBOVR is now shipping a retrofit kit for their headstraps to make them compatible with Quest 3.
Furthermore, keep an eye on the 3D printed adapters that will surely be released by the community in no time.
I've got a grand total amount of zero accessories in 3 years on my Quest 2
haha@@ojivlogs
Yeah with knock off chargers that don't charge properly or Bobovr being extremely uncomfortable. I've tried it and hated it.
9/10:
• vastly improved visuals
• great passthrough
• outstanding controller feel and tracking
You're welcome
A 9/10 from IGN usually means a 5/10 realistically
Thanks bro
Thank you internet person
@emma6648 By your weird standards maybe!
$500 for the headset is cheap asf
Anyone get the feeling that quest 3 has more potential to get more games that actually play like GAMES? I’m sick of most of the AAA games these days and might be more interested in having AA indie experiences/arcade experiences these days. Lots of potential for table top AR games. Hope developers deliver.
Nobody cared about VR for 12 years. 1 relevant game HL Alyx that died in a week. This new device proves the same
@@HD-fc4dsHL Alyx isn’t the only relevant VR game
Demeo is already out, and it's a Table Top AR game.
Monopoly, uno, battleship so many concepts and possibilities
@@mitchellp7739 name another one that anybody outside of the small VR enthusiast's circles cares about?
I’ve been playing no man’s sky in VR for the past two weeks and I’m freaking addicted on quest 2. My biggest gripe are the lenses and I’m so excited for the clear Q3 lenses finally.

You can't help but look at super nostalgic & gorgeous background during review. CRT television, old consoles. Lighting is so perfect.
that beat saber controller test, ok im impressed
Beat Saber has become the de-facto benchmark for VR controller quality
As a 44y old unfit man... that's still a pretty slow speed and low accuracy of 84%. You'd be surprised where you'd get to at 100h.
Gaming on Quest 3, where you can see your room and you're fighting aliens or whatever, IN your room, is an amazing experience that has to be tried. Full-stop.
Even cooler in your living room after moving everything so you have a huge space
Space Pirate Arena needs an AR update
No just no
@@JonySmith-bb4gx amazing and compelling argument.. bravo

There should be a trade-in program, either directly from the companies or reputable third parties so people that want to "upgrade" can do
Definitely, as long as they get recycled and not just throw in to the landfill
amazon has one
Just sell it online at a marketplace and let the buyer pick it up ?
What incentive do they have to do a trade in program?
@@kiwisoupdoes meta really need one? Their incentives should be the happy looks on their customers faces when they get a quest 3 after a trade in
Will be my first VR Headset. Arriving tomorrow. Can't wait!
nah 3rd party is the way to go@@AntoneJoness
Don't go crazy with it. You might throw up or think you can't stomach VR.
You start feeling sick, take a break and come back later.
All the games they show look garbage, better off playing Spiderman 2 on a real console
@@chiquita683that all you can afford?
Oh wow, you will have a nice time... My first game was alyx.. Was like put res evil one in my Playstation
Honestly it should be 10. The mixed reality piano is insane!! I’m sure on deck is a guitar mixed reality 😋 watching RUclips on it is like sitting down at a movie theatre. The quest 3 is a HISTORIC point in history!!
Brilliant review. Thorough and so helpful. Thank you
Keep it up with the vr coverage!! 🤘
This is basically what we have all been waiting for all these years!! Everything is a huge improvement over the quest 2 and this will do 95% of what Apples $3500 headset will do!
except still the lack of quality games..which is most important.
Nothing to knock the Quest 3, just because it has similar capabilities doesn’t mean that the Quest 3 will do them better than the Vision pro. Are all 4k TV’s equal?
@@mikeswanger4339 Not saying it will do anything better than the vision pro. But it seems it will do most of what the vision pro will do at a fraction of the price. Is the vision pro $3000 better than the Quest 3? I don't think so.
@@kricul1the new piano sim (think guitar hero, but on steroids) sounds really cool
The Apple Vision won't have controllers, and they didn't announce any VR games at the reveal. It seems to be intended only for virtual desktops, floating windows in the room.
To all the new people in VR you can use the Quest 2/3 all day without having to worry about it dying by getting a 3rd Party cable like the JSAUX Link Cable or Kuject Link Cable that allows your Quest 2/3 to stay charged while playing without getting below like 80% or so. There is nothing more annoying than exploring the things in the headset and then right when you're ready to get into a game or app the headset dies. lol
I've never used vr are they fun, is it worth the money and moaning of my wife
My OLED Oculut Rift CV1 still holds well and runs every software out there in 2024. Just super glued it for the second time earlier in the day. The performance and quality of visuals have increased a lot over time.
If there are no new games to take advantage of the hardware....what's the point? Ill wait for a year or 2 to see if anything actually makes it worth while.
Theres more than enough...
Finally. A solid jumping off point. You could get this and probably not have to get another till 5 or 6
Hello, I'm curious to know if we can record the passthrough in the internal memory of the headset?
Awesome review! The guy reviewing did a great job!
it's a shame that you guys didn't cover PCVR which is quite important for many people
Seriously, many of us don't touch standalone and they act like PCVR doesn't exist
They did. They showed Microsoft Flight Simulator and talked briefly about the quality.
PCVR is a niche in a niche.
Well considering PCVR does not harness the extra power of the headset, there's not much to talk about. It was wifi 6 and a higher resolution screen. What else they need to say exactly?
@@kiwisoupnot much honestly
Vegas infinite is a sick game if ur into poker and it’s got a quest 3 patch that allows you to play poker on a packed table in full color pass through
Portal 2 would be amazing in VR on Meta Quest 3.
Anything first person shooter is always better in vr. If you have tried some decent vr shooter, you will have a feeling that fps games were initially designed for vr games back in the day
Enjoy it, lucky people who can play VR. It gives me a terrible headache - always wanted to do a modded Skyrim playthrough in VR 😭
That goes away with time, most people have to ease themselves into VR and eventually you don't get any sickness or anything (you generally want to stop asap if it starts hurting)
Yeah, what @retrodaniel said. it's unfortunate to respond with "it gives me headaches" with "do it more often" but it's true. You get used to it. if it helps anymore, the quest 3 is significantly less blurry and also a higher resolution which *could* help relief some of those headaches. but yeah the biggest thing is just getting used to it
Can you manage 15 minute bursts?
It was the same for me and still is in longer full motion play sessions, but it does get better with time
Weak mentals
Tested this when UniSA visited my uni.
Love it!
We have more VR headsets than AAA games out there for all of them combined.....
No we can play almost all Unreal Engine games in VR using the praydog mod with a PC
At least 500 tested so far ..
That's right
Not if you have pcvr.
Would love to see a comparison between other major HMD with Q3. Not just from the document
the only other major headsets are incredibly outdated Valve Index, whose only better claim is bigger FOV and psvr2, wired, bulky, B&W passthrough, awful optics and often lame reprojection, plus lacking most features outside gaming
and then there are niche and very expensive enthusiast headsets on pc with better specs
@@VRnamek The Valve also has finger tracking on the controllers, which really adds to immersion. If Valve dropped an Index 2 with more emphasis on ease of access (no clunky sensors, QoL improvements, etc.) then I'd rather buy that than a bare minimum upgrade from the quest 2.
@@Gloomrotten It is different to finger tracking, the controllers have sensors to know which have been lifted from the controller!
my quest 1 had hand tracking. your talking like you just found vr@@BritishReaction
That's because there LITERALLY isn't anything that's indisputably better! 🤷
Even the $1000 for JUST the headset (aka no base stations or controllers, it's more like ≈$1500 w/ those) Bigscreen Beyond has significantly worse lenses (WAAAAAAY more glare & reflections than Meta's custom pancakes), a smaller FOV, no wireless support (even just wireless tethering, let ALONE full standalone capability), AND a lower refresh rate (90Hz at reduced Quest 2-ish res & just 75Hz at the full 2560x2560p res, vs up to 120Hz at whatever res the Q3 game/PC can handle).
For a properly "complete VR package" you simply cannot do better than the Quest 3 atm, no matter HOW MUCH MONEY you decide to spend. 🤷
would have been nice to hear something about watching media on the device. its a big use case
Can we get a mixed reality yugioh game now? Lol
That would actually be amazing
Yess
im beyond hyped to get mine
Ive been using my quest 2 since the day it came out, great piece of kit but im ready to move on from those lenses.

Can you use the quest with only mobile phone ? For example use the quest as a second screen for games on your mobiles?
The room mapping is so cool
12:12 Not all meta controllers have had tracking rings, the quest pro controllers (Which work with the quest 2, Pro and now 3) don't have rings
Man, that guy's got a slick apartment and audio-visual setup.
Im so stoked for mine to arrive! The clarity and comfort alone is what sold me! Great review!
It isn't comfortable still, but the new lenses are top tier
Hey fnh8it
Comfort? Compared to what? All the tethered headsets are more comfortable and it is a huge backwards step from the Quest Pro.
@@groovemark Every VR youtuber whos had their hands on the headset early has mentioned it is a lot more comfortable and better balanced than the quest 2. With 3rd party accessories the faceplate and head strap, much like quest 2's, will be replaced instantly boosting the comfort level even further.
@@FNH8iT Wearing a battery on your nose is never gonna be comfortable.

Ign Apple VR price is normal. But this is expensive!? Lol. What?
It's expensive compared to the Quest 2
apples price is fine considering only enterprise users will buy
this is for consumers. 499 is 200 more than what quest 2 started for.
LOL if you think apple VR is only for enterprise, you haven't met a proper apple fanboy
Coming from the vive then vive pro 1, this is amazing
50% is 1.5 times more powerful, since it's 2 times more powerful it's 100% more powerful 👍
Does it come with rechargeable batteries or do you need to buy them separately after the ones they give you die?
The base model does not come with rechargeable batteries. If you buy the charging cradle, it does
Perfect review!
im excited. the future is in the mixed reality
Might have to upgrade my Occulus Go... still works, but, technology moves on....
Where’s gta San Andreas already
For real.
Do your games from quest 2 transfer over to quest 3?
How did that „sendung mit der maus“ cap end up with you?
looks amazing! and much much cheaper compared Apple Vision Pro
Great to hear, ill wait for a sale!
Is it more comfortable to wear for longer periods? Trying to decide between a new quest 2 or going for the 3 - comfort might be the push vs $$$
I'm in the same boat. Probably not getting any as a consequence.
Not bad for $500. Vision Pro $3500
They do very different things, in very different ways
@@acslater017in the same time very similar. Apple advertise it as AR glasses and can watch movies and used it as your monitor... which the quest 3 can do... although apple vision pro oled microled might be its selling point but still no hdr so basically useless
@@ForceInEvHorizonvision pro is designed for work, to be able to work an entire day in an office on a single charge and super charge productivity, it's not a wireless gaming headset
@acslater017 its 7 times as much and only maybe 59 percent better if that
Can anyone please tell me what quest home map is at 9:25 ? It looked amazing!
If pass-through became high-res enough it'd be weird for someone shortsighted to use 😂 cured of their blindness by tech. Some real cyberpunk stuff right there
That's not how it works. If you're short sighted you still have to wear glasses with the headset. The displays are milimiters away from your eyes, but what makes things blurry is your eyes' failure to focus for far distances, which it still has to do to get the stereoscopic 3D effect.
credit for the song starting a 1:00?
How are the concerts in VR?
Red Matter 2 already had superior graphics on Quest 2. Nice that they pushed it even farther when they didn't have to.
Real question is how long till the controller stick drift starts
You did not mention the weird storage options: 128GB for the base and 512GB for an extra $150.
😂
Storage is useless, these type of games don’t take that much space, the quest 2 I have is 64 gig and never fully took all the space
Plus Quest 4 will be out in max 2 years.
where is the quest 3 256gb?
does it have story rich exploring games? those were my favorites on the psvr 1 but there was only few.
Once Thrill of The Fight 2 releases, I’ll get the quest 3
Does anyone know if it is backwords compatible for Oculus Rift games ??????????????????
Quest 3 is cool because it has a better resolution and clearer lenses, more processing power. That’s really it. I’ll upgrade from Quest 2 soon. Needs exclusives
Its not "just" that but okay
Well what more do you want as an upgrade? Besides it has alot more features.

Wireless pc gaming worked perfectly with quest 2
The 2 comes with a silicone cover for the foam . This should too
Does this one scratch glasses lenses from rubbing against the display like the last one did?

Wonder if robo recall will get a visual update to be more in line with the pc version.
Quest 3 can sure handle it - here's to hoping.
Multi-player like allready
let that minigame rest at once. Epic should bring a more fully featured game
Had a bad time with my glass on Quest 2, doesn't seem getting any better on any VR headset.
They had that pass through game on the 3ds for free called face raiders or something like that.
don't you think selling the "better head-strap" at the same of release as the product is ridiculous? The greed is crazy
They had to make it affordable somehow
The Quest 3 looks amazing
Anyone else notice the extremely high pitch frequency that plays through the whole video?
I'll get it when Asgards wrath 2 drops.
on a comment made in verdict - most precisely tracked controllers.. does it really outperform Valve index with base stations?
No, but the optional upgrade fully self-tracked Touch Pro controllers do! 🤷 (Aka the controllers the Quest Pro ships with). They have absolutely ZERO tracking deadzones or occlusion issues, which even with outside-in Lighthouse tracking can still be an issue.
Sure, Lighthouse has a slight latency advantage by running tracking updates at 100Hz to Touch Pro's 60Hz, but IMO I'd MUCH rather have its guaranteed no deadzones or possibility for occlusion (and ability to be used ANYWHERE w/o external base stations) than Lighthouse's small latency advantage.
... Touch controllers also don't spontaneously break and fall apart even if you just accidentally look at them the wrong way ala Index's Knuckles, so there's that. 🤷
But can it run DMM …. ?
The problem with copying in large videos is still present?
Anyone besides me notice the headset fan noise being louder than that of the Quest 2?
12:21 Oculus Go controller: "Am I a joke to you?"
Yeah, but those weren't really VR controllers since they only had 3 degrees of freedom for tracking.
yes, those 3DoF days were a gyroscope-only joke with no actual positional tracking
Was looking through the comments for the passthrough. My passthrough on the quest 3 is grainy as hell. Even in bright rooms
Same here. The videos ive seen the passthroughs seemed really clear. My one isnt only grainy but it waves a little here and there sometimes. No issues though when not in passthrough
Cant wait. Im taking extra shifts at a factory to get it
The AR looks cool
How about the sony vr?
Got the 512 gb version hope it needs that much
omg love your hat!
With the new games releasing is 128 gb enough? Or is it better to go for the 512 gb version?
your going to need 512gb..not much to say
The games looks pretty fun 😅 is this from the predecessor of occulus?
