The Quest 3 is a beast. There are a few things that hold it back from being perfect though. Meta surprisingly actually sent a headset but I already bought one (actually two...) for the review, so I'll be giving it away on my discord this month. Join up: discord.gg/thrill
One of the things that I wish wasn’t true but is, is that the developers of Blade and Sorcery Nomad said their not gonna release a updated quest 3 version which is super upsetting to me. I love Blade and Sorcery and wish for just better graphics. Really upsetting point for me
Yes and make sure you get extra extra batteries for that head strap.... like 3 of them or four if you can afford it, I gotta put in order to today for two more extra batteries
Competitive beat saber players would generally shake their head at inside out tracking. Just not accurate enough. And ideally not wireless play. Wired to pc (not video stream like quest)
@@LoganTheobald fair enough. Id say that's alot to do with the cost/accessibility. Even if it's a small advantage, proper tracking would help. I'd be interested to see setups of say the top 100
@@LoganTheobaldand now with growing popularity of Beat Leader you can play competitive standalone, which is overall the best experience on Quest, tracking is perfect.
I’m getting the impression that the more comfortable a headset is, the more a user is going to be using it and enjoying it. Comfort should be a primary goal for all headsets. That’s why the beyond must be so amazing to use
It's weird that Thrill had such a bad fit. I've got WAY more Neanderthal Brow than he does (c.f. PFP) and I find the Quest 3 to be the most comfortable between the Index, Q2, XR Elite, Quest Pro, and Q3... I was super concerned about the fabric strap (I ditched the Q2 strap for an order with KiwiDesigns on Day 2), but I don't have the slightest inclination to change it. It's WAAAY better than the one on the Q2. Oh, and I have the eye relief all the way *in* - with my eyes as close to the lenses as I can get them... Different people definitely have different heads - even when they'd describe their heads the same way!
I completely agree with you regarding the lack of comfort on the quest 3. I couldn't even play an hour of Alyx before a massive pressure induced headache forced me to stop. The elite strap should just be included from the get-go.
Or, I know it`s a brand new and not very common concept, but hear me out, allow backwards-compatibility with Quest 2 Straps, since they are almost identical.
@@shippy1001 They're not though, the headset and strap areas are shaped differently, and the Quest 3 strap area has holes for the charging passthrough. Not saying they aren't similar-- But am saying so are most our phones, and not like every phone case fits each other-- they have slightly different designs.
That's kind of just the issue though-- Some people find it comfortable, some people don't-- I've already watched a couple reviews that said it's far more comfortable than Quest 2's default strap setup and they enjoy it, while other said it was far WORSE and gave them headaches. The elite strap would help-- But overall, all headsets fit different individuals differently, and It's not an easy problem to solve, what's pleasant and comfortable for one person, could be Agonizing and Distracting for another.
I have the Quest 2. I was thinking about buying the quest 3. You have talked me out of it. The mixed reality/AR was the main reason I wanted to get it; they advertised it to be so incredible. Cooking dinner while watching a movie on a huge floating screen in the kitchen, and it is clearly leaps and bounds behind still compared to what they showed it to be. Thank you for saving me the money and my time.
Regarding power, in Medal of Honor they let you adjust resolution and other visual settings. On Quest 2 bumping those values all the way up made for a laggy, unplayable game, but the Quest 3 handles it no sweat. Kind of wish other game publishers let you make those kinds of changes, especially for games that aren't actively being improved anymore. I'm with you on comfort, my eyebrow bones hurt.
Those settings sound useful in retrospect but I can see many people refunding the game or leaving bad reviews after messing with the settings and thinking the game is just unplayable (forgetting to undo them). Would require a proper "Experimental Warning: May cause the game to not function optimally" prompt as well as a Reset settings to default button.
It's really weird seeing this perspective from everyone. My brother got me the MQ3 out of the blue, raving about how cool it is. I keep putting it on and finding that it's so boring, I don't enjoy the controls or interface of everything, really turned off how even with wide fov, everything still seems way too shoved in your face or way too far out of view to the left and right. not enjoying having to snap my head left and right for everything or crank my head way up or down. Controls are generally horribly clunky and annoying for almost everything. Literally no games that I found are worth the chore of dealing with the whole VR experience for the entirety of a whole game. I feel very bad, this is just a subpar, sloppy, boring and annoying way to game, I'm giving it back to my brother so he can get his money back. I don't want it, I don't enjoy it or care about it in the least. I turn it on, mess around with it for 10 minutes and I'm like oh right, now I remember why this is a crap experience. It's like taking gaming and going well out of your way to make everything annoyingly cumbersome and clunky and not only that, literally everything in the app store is generic crap wanting desperately to be as appreciated as actual good games and apps that don't need VR to be enjoyable. Just not for me. What a truly unfun experience in literally every aspect possible.
Out of all reviews I watched, yours is the one I enjoyed the most and found most useful and interesting. Thank you a lot for all your hard work you put in creating content for this channel of yours!
One thing ive actually found good from the mixed reality was in thrill of the fight. It feels so surreal having a boxing bag in your living room, and being able to move around while punching it. To me, its like next level shadow boxing. Obviously you can also fight opponents, but its a lot less immersive to me than just going ham on a boxing bag inside your litteral living room.
I got one and have been playing it for the past two days, it's my first VR headset and literally my second time ever using vr but I've had so much fun with it and genuinely adore how I finally have it in my hands after waiting so long.
Yea! This is my first headset too. I definitely have not played as much because the disorientation is pretty bad and it lasts for hours, but that’s just because I’m new to VR. Is it the same way for you?
@@fishseas as someone who's been playing vr for 3 years and had 5 headsets (4 different ones), it's a person to person thing. I never got motion sick in vr but some of my friends immediately did and never got over it, and some of my friends immediately did and then got over it after days or weeks
@@MidnightNachos yes, I rarely ever get motion sick but I have a really hard time with the disorientation of everything not feeling real after I take the headset off. it’s some thing that experienced VR users kind of forget about because after a week or two it goes away. It’s unfortunate that some people aren’t able to enjoy vr due to motion sickness but I’m sure there are ways to mitigate it.
@@fishseassome people use a small mat or something to stand on so they can know or keep track of where they are in their room still. Idk if that would help with disorientation though
@@fishseas I haven't felt that disorientation in a long time, I legitimately forgot it even existed since the last time I felt it would've been 2-3 years ago, likely closer to 3
Keep in mind that his experience is unique to him because the quest 3 is the most comfortable one I’ve had so far and the only one I felt like was made with glasses compatibility in mind
Getting the quest 2 to easily fit right without pain, sliding and impairment to clarity was such a hassle with it being used by multiple members of my family. Finding the sweet spot again felt impossible. The lens improvement makes me so excited
Glad to hear someone really give a good solid critique of the headset's shortcomings, a great middle of the road for first impressions! Been a while since a Meta headset review from Thrill, always a treat! Keep up the good work man!
Well, either the man is working on a huge project outside of youtube, or the quest 3 completely captured the thrill, and it's up to us to locate him in the depths of VRCHAT. It's almost strange he's been absent for the metric ton of VR news that's been coming up lately. Hope all is well.
I'm hoping that there will be company's that make facial interfaces that allow the headset to chill closer to your face. id be so damn happy if vr cover did that
bobovr's m3 pro strap for the quest 3 will have a mode where you can use it without the facial interface, what I really want to see is a custom fitted facial interface with iphone 3d scanning to get it customized to your face like the bigscreen beyond has. i'm probably gonna go the frankenquest3 route with a htc vive deluxe audio strap mod (i have this on the quest 2 and it is incredible) or the bobovr m3pro which i've heard great things about.
I'm very hopeful that the Beyond's custom facial interface has set a new bar in terms of comfort that many 3rd party manufacturers are going to be reaching for. For some people like my SO who have yet to find a headset that isn't painful to wear for less than an hour, face comfort is an absolute deal breaker.
Never used quest 1, so i don't know the battery usage. But having the meta quest 3 myself, the battery usage is quite intense. Can't play more than 3 hours even plugged in pc or wall. So just keep in mind that if you buy one, you might have to buy accessories to play longer...once third parties release em
Very excited to see the future of mixed reality with the quest 3 having color passthrough and a depth sensor. Sure it isn’t quite there yet, but we’re stepping into the right direction! Might get a quest 4 if they really expand on it, but for now I’m content with my PSVR 2 (even if it can’t do mixed reality)
I’ve been using Oculus products since the CV1 just for context and have bought all of my headsets off of Oculus/Meta. This is by far the best headset they’ve ever made.. but. The first day I got my quest 3 I had nothing but issues. It turns out that’s because the headset did not update yet. Once the headset fully updated, it was a much better experience, and the following day was even better. If you are coming from quest two don’t expect a huge leap yet but as time goes on and it will get better as it always does with newer updates. I highly recommend it, especially for brand new VR users. They will be blown away by this HMD.
I’m 13 and half way there on saving for it my bdays in December and then there’s Christmas so all the money I get from that and my allowance till then might get me to the amount of buying it
You know the sad part is they could’ve very easily just put a micro SD slot into it for upgradable purposes but that wouldn’t make them nearly as much money would it.
I also bought the Quest Pro when it came out so I'm not exactly eager to dump some more cash for an experience that is not significantly better than the Pro. I just got the chance to try a friend's Quest 3 today and while certain things are better, they're mostly small things. Especially considering this friend had a dead pixel in their brand new Quest 3 out of the box, so he had to order another one. 🤷🏻♀ For someone who mostly uses my Quest Pro for XR design, I'm not convinced I need to upgrade. It was refreshing hearing your take on the gaming side of things, especially your comment that it's not necessarily a needed upgrade right now since the MR content is lacking at the moment. We need more influencers giving realistic takes like that! ✨
Played about 2 hours in the Q3 for the first time last night and was very impressed how big a leap it is from its predecessor. I bought the elite strap with it and it's leaps and bounds better than the cloth strap. Did not feel any fatigue in my face or ears (biggest issue with the cloth strap). Can't wait to jump back in tonight!
I am impressed with the in-built audio solution. It has not been mentioned in most reviews however, coming from someone who used the Vive pro mod with the Q2 for the last two years it is remarkably good.
Coming up on 3 months actually. Was kinda wondering about that. I've been looking forward to the giveaway, but now I'm not sure it's still going to happen. And I came here so I don't get banned for asking about it "again" though technically I never personally bugged anyone. A mod jokingly replied he ate it, and that's the closest thing to an update I've heard.
@Schmoo-ec5be It could be because he is so overwhelmed. He recently made a post about it. May not have the time to do such giveaways and is instead relying on his community for assistance.
I feel like with the release of the Quest 3, AR/MR will finally take off. Its like the first iteration of a foldable phone or something similar, crude but its just enough to get the idea off the ground. Can't wait for it to be tuned and improved upon!
Yea but foldable phones are still about flash factor than actual use or convenience. I feel like MR is always going to be less impressive than VR, because you're back to using a very limited world size.
@@fen4554 I only made the comparison because that was the most relevant thing that came to mind. What I meant was that first gen tech will always be jank, but future iterations are where things get polished and refined. MR is uncharted waters, we just need a few "breakout" apps to really get some traction going for MR.
@@realnerdethan that'll be fucking SICK dude. Fuck it, why not just port Pokemon GO to the Quest? With the full color passthrough cams and hand tracking, I wouldn't rule it out.
I'm amazed by how good the tracking is on Quest 3, I played Expert+ in Beat Saber using claw grip (my hands were essentially covering the entire face of the controller where the tracking dots are) and it still tracked just as good.
I think the mixed reality is just a really lovely quality of life feature that doesn't need a killer app. It's more like a "force multiplier" that just smoothes out all the edges of the thing, and makes it way more usable on a day to day basis
Yes, but only if you have the disposable income and you're willing to purchase a different head strap. If you're on the edge at all, then I would say just stick with the Quest 2 for now. The price of the Quest 3 will likely fall after a while, and by then some of the software issues will probably have been addressed.@@TomSagi-sf4uf
I’ve had a Rift S since march 2020, and about six months ago the cable died, couldn’t find a new cable for cheap, so I decided to get the Quest 3 and a few days ago I got it. I used to play a lot of Beat Saber (not the best, I believe at my peak I was somewhere in the top 9,000 players on ScoreSaber), and I gotta say - tracking is amazing. I had no problem passing light it up on expert plus, and even with airline that doesn’t work 90% of the time I’ve had zero visible delay and the mods work and it’s all perfect. There is a little compression but again, wireless and barely noticeable. Definitely great for pro beat saber players. I just want the 120hz on link. That’s everything missing for me as a beat saber player. Great video as always!
You are literally the only person that's been honest about passthrough and MR! When I got it and saw how grainy it was, I thought I had a faulty headset since every other creator has said how good it is and no one thought to mention that's its this grainy
The age old marketing scheme of "we want to sell this thing to the masses" They said you "can read your phone with it", however they never once said "how well you can read it"
@DripChip_ I can't speak for every phone, but I've found a that my phone (galaxy s20+) has a brightness sweet spot. Too dim it's blurry, too bright and you can't read it. Also to help with warp, try to hold the phone as steady as possible
The Quest 2 is still amazing! I got it a day after the release and now it is still a great headset. Runs smoothly, comfortable (for me), and how the battery still hasn't lost much life! The Quest 3 may be better but the Quest 2 just suprises me! So, if you wanna buy the Quest 2 instead of the Quest 3, you won't have a problem since mine has lasted 3 whole years without any problems!
Idk if it’s my charging cable or the actual headset itself but it does not like to charge sometimes and it’s really annoying when I plug it in before I leave for work or something and then I come home to a still dead headset
Practically no screen door effect, maybe, but it's still there. You can especially notice it when you look at solid colors, such as a cloudless light blue sky.
sure, Q3 has a resolution of 25 PPD (pixel per degree), To eliminate the sceen door effect, you need 60 PPD and more. The is a long way to go, but it is a nice start, compared with Quest 1 and 2.
@@han_zei_bu_liang_li Yeah, it's an improvement, at least in terms of the PPD. Meanwhile, I'm still happy with the blacks of my original Quest over both its successors. Still can't believe Meta hasn't improved on that unless you have a Quest Pro.
With my almost 73mm IPD this is a godsend... I could not really use Quest2 but I can use this. I am really thankful for combination of extended IPD range and huge sweet spot of the lenses. To me it is almost the greatest improvement and feature in quest 3.
my wife is on the other end, having 55mm, sometimes 54, depending on who and how its meassured. but the sentiment is: youre the 2%. we already have 90% of people covered.. sucks to be you to much effort for little gain.
I just got it. And I agree with you on every point. The mixed reality is good, but not mindblowing. I hope they improve that a lot. I expected the fov the be amazing, but it's not, its better but not that good. Still looking through scuba gear. The tracking was really good though and noticed a big difference in beatsaber. The new chip is not noticable yet, less hicups tho. I've not tested the mic yet, but i believe it will get better with software. The clarity and resolution is good, can still see pixels tho. And the comfort.. it's manageable. But that just means it's not horrible and also not comfortable. it's probably keeping me from playing with it more often. So prob going to get a bobovr strap. Also the battery, feels even worse than the quest 2 . So that battery pack will help, a lot.. I see the quest 3 as an investment. It's probably going to get a lot better overtime, but it's just not there yet. Someone should compare launch quest 2 vs quest 3. That would probably make things better. Btw also not so funny thing. The game you get with the quest 3. Is around 130 gB and the base model quest has 128 gigs. Not so funny. But the quest 3 128 gig is already 550 euros for me and the 512 gig is a whopping 700 euros. The euro is even worth more than the dollar so getting extra screwed in europe...
The size of Asgard 2 game is about 30gb not 130gb. I was worried getting 128 gigs after your comment but I feel like its manageable as the biggest games are around 30gb
I got mine (128Gb version) three days ago and I'm loving it. Definite improvements over the Quest 2 (not saying there's anything wrong with the Q2 - still a great headset especially at the price) in frame rates, controller tracking, resolution, sound. I was able to re-use my VR Power II battery with a little fiddling with the straps to get it to fit, and also the silicon face shield thing that Meta sent me for the Q2 (you know, the thing that fixed the sweat-smelly facial interface problem?) fits on the Q3 - not perfectly but close enough. On the other hand the silicon rubber grips I bought for the Q2 controllers kill the tracking on the new controllers (much as I expected but I thought I'd try it to be sure) so I can't use them; bit of a shame but I'm sure someone will make something that works soon enough. I wear specs and the built-in adjustment works just fine for me - the kit is comfortable even after playing Warplanes: WWI Fighters for like ninety minutes straight. Great review, guy. Subscribing.
I'm still using my Quest 1, and with the OLED screens I'm feeling very hesitant to switch to anything that doesn't have it. It's getting more and more tempting though
I was using a Quest 1 too. I can confirm that the lost of the OLED screen is really frustrating for me. For example, in Prime Video on Quest 1 you really have the feeling to be in a Cinema in the dark. In the Quest 3 you can’t have this feeling. I can confirm that the confort on the Quest 1 is better than the Quest 3 too, I will have to buy another strap. Despite that, the Quest 3 has other great features and you will not regret if you decide to buy it 🙂
Same! Good to see someone else who's hung onto the quest 1 for so long! Upgrading to quest 3 is looking very tempting, but at the same time, we've waited this long, how much longer would it be to wait for something even better come out?
yeah, I am still using my Quest 1 and I hate the greyish LCD panels. So i skipped the Q2 and hoped for an OLED/microLED Q3, even for a much higher price. Now I am disappointed. The only positive thing is the disappearance of screen door effect, the resolution has doubled compared with Quest 1. I think it is worth to try it out. Otherwise I will return it to Amazon and keep my beloved Q1 for the next years, until there is one with suitable screen panels on the market.
@@pieguy5692 Meta announced that it's higher end luxory Pro headset will launch in 2025 to compete against apple vision Pro, using dual micro-oled displays, higher resolution etc.
I was in the exact same situation! Been using an original Oculus Rift since 2018, and for a Quest 3 for Christmas/birthday. It requires a couple more steps to play Steam games, and I'm bummed that the link cable doesn't provide as much power as the headset uses, but I'm absolutely loving it! Passthrough is amazing, and being able to read small text that was just a blur on the Rift is fantastic. I'm very, very happy with it, and hope you are as well.
Being as down to earth as possible I still watch vr content and channels because of you thrill, I've been watching you since the quest 2 launch anticipation so during quarantine and I just want to say thank you. For being you and constantly posting vr content for me and many others to enjoy. ❤
I’ve also had a terrible experience with the comfort. It somehow feels worse than the quest 2. Almost everything else though for me is great and I don’t regret buying it at all. I’m just waiting to get stick drift in 2 months
@@Banneri it’s a loooot of money so if you can wait for a third party to make one I would. But yes, maybe I’m a wimp but I could NOT play with the default strap. Once I got the elite strap (I personally went all out and got the battery one lol) it was much more comfortable and I played for several hours
@@Banneriwait for kiwi to make their own head strap. YES it makes all the difference in the world. I prefer the elite style strap. It basically smushes your face into the the headset providing the highest FOV possible. Having said that there is also the halo strap style which was on the PSVR 1+2 that puts most of the pressure on your forehead instead of your cheeks and eyebrows. It’s a preference, personally I think with a pleather with cushioning on the facial interface it would make the stock strap more usable. No a big fan of the material used on it currently.
I like how honest your videos are. I was seeing so many videos about how good the passthrough is and to see you show it realistically instead of just the recorded videos has definitely tempered my expectations. I still want one, but I'm not thinking it's going to be the most insane thing ever. I still think the AR stuff we are seeing now is the future glimpsing through right now.
Honest? Wtf are u talking about? Meta sent him heaset for review, guess what they forced him to say. Q3 is fairly good set tbh, but it still has major downsides we already seen in Q2. (not being able to maintain charge on wired link, uncomfortable strap, short overall battery life, overcomplicated internal battery replacement, etc)
Something almost nobody mentions is that the edges around the lenses on Quest 3 are really thick compared to Quest Pro. I have to keep it set pretty far out to keep it from touching my nose.
After owning 12-13 VR headsets, this is by far best value headset I have ever used! Well done Meta even though I'm not a fan of Meta but this blows everything out in terms of value for money
@@Lukiepookie69420 if you talk about value, soeciall for new joiners into VR, I will say nothing else will come close to Quest 3..... Depends on your usage you can decide on storage, I myself play mostly on PCVR so I got 128GB but if you like Quest games or the upcoming ones it's good idea to take 512GB since it's not expandable storage later Some will say wait for Pico but the software side won't be as good as Quest due to regional issues and after introduction of MR into these, software is very important
@@Lukiepookie69420no, grab the cheaper one. 128 GB is enough for 20-40 games depending on the size of them. The money you are saving you can use to get an elite strap w/ battery or just get more games in general. I've had the Quest 1, Quest 2 and Quest 3 and I can confidently say that I've never had problems with storage, and I've got the 64 GB variant of the quest 2. 128 GB is very good.
From PSVR to Oculas Go and now to Quest 3. Surprisingly the tech is getting good. I think the immediate thing that blew me away was the AR passthrough features, which can be used for endless endless things. I was not disappointed with the Quest 3 even at price range. The only thing I'd like to see them fix is the fuzzy image of AR and a slight blurryness in regular VR, which to no avail is yet to be corrected. Nothing seems to fix it....All in all, it's still awesome...
I recommended to a friend of mine to get a 256GB quest 2 when the deals were going on, and he's happy with it - he also believes waiting at least a year to see where quest 3 goes, quest 2 is a great option, especially if you're not into truly intensive apps.
Everyone's asking for a killer mixed reality app for the Quest 3, and maybe this isn't it, but I think something that involves building a slot car track around your own room/house could be a solid contender. Bonus points for local multiplayer and having to go pick up your car if you take a corner too fast and fly off the track.
I'm excited, the Quest 3 is a genuinely a nice headset upgrade. The best of all, the accessories are really well put together from day 1. Considering the cost of a VR capable PC, this is arguably the better set-up. Especially love how the Quest 3 Charging Dock does actually charge all the controllers, headset, and deluxe strap with battery in one convenient set-up. That's a game changer right there, especially with upgrades now streamlined, so it's easier to pick-up and go. But I also went all-in and got the active straps and carry case, these all just fit in the case together. So overall, insanely good engineering. It's easy to pack it up to a friend's place and just be good to go for a few hours. So, well done Meta Quest hardware (and software) engineering team! You've got a winner on your hands. Now, they can focus on streamlining the VR entry experience. I think there's a lot of opportunity to further reduce friction. Maybe even a "Hey Quest, start Pistol Whip" and have it ready to go by the time you put it on.
Am glad you spoke at length about comfort as well as referencing the opinion of other content creators. I didn't expect to have the money to buy it and while I can buy it now, I'll choose to wait for the Quest 3 lite and other options to appear as this one doesn't offer enough for my limited income. Would rather wait the year or two for more headsets to release or for an undeniably good deal to come about.
Agree on all accounts. I think the quest 3 is a huge upgrade in almost every way. Wish the comfort was better and that they had eye tracking but oh well. Great as is for the price.
Comfort has been great for me after fiddling. I had the same forehead issues at first but fiddling with the strap (loosening it just a bit, experiment with the arms and topstrap) has made the comfort great for me.
I was torn between hopping up the ladder with an aero, but I couldn't stomach buying all the other required stuff with it. For $500 i'm already super happy with my quest 3. Shooting down my own apartment walls to reveal an alien planet is pretty cool
@@AfkBxnditI don’t have Quest 3, but imo passtheough on Quest 2 seems to be better within the past month. I used it for a mixed reality game and I saw almost everything irl just fine (except my phone). I can only imagine Quest 3 will be better
@@mcgritty8842 Quest 3 is MUCH better than Quest 2 on the passthrough front. It doesn't even begin to compare with the magic leap in terms of room clarity [ML is like looking through clear lenses not a camera) but FOV and graphics are better and the headset also does VR.
Hopefully Meta don’t just drop kick the quest 2 like they did to the quest 1 😅. Great Video/review, really gotta think about getting, thanks for the insight though 👍
Meta did support the quest 1 for a decent while. Given it's first generation gardware. Quest 2 will probably last even longer because of the larger playerbase using iy
Quest 1 is a 2019 product and still get security update until 2024. The same year galaxy s10 and pixel 4 released, wondering if those phone still get update
One thing I want to know about the Quest 3 is if they fixed the foggy lenses issues, they're probably the thing I dislike the most about the Quest 2 is that they fog up very easily
so far I havent had any problems with it on quest 3, and on quest 2 I was constantly having to remember to breath in through my nose and out the mouth to avoid fogging (or do the trick of covering the nose area and breathing in through the nose to suck the fog/moisture out of the headset, if you werent aware of that trick its awesome!)
@@MidnightNachos Me neither, do you use a halo style strap on the quest 2 by chance? thats what I use and I noticed it actually holds the headset in front of your face, just really close so it takes away all pressure but you can still see fine. I would assume thats whats preventing lens fog.
Upgraded from Q2 and it's a massive improvement in image quality. I knew exactly why I wanted to upgrade, pancake lens. Finding the sweet spot for me in the q2 was always a pain due to eye condition (degeneration of cornea). Long ago I had also modded my vive to use pancake lens and it was day and night
Hey, fantastic work as usual. This is amazing content for my commute to work so i can keep up with the community i host events for!~ I do want to say that a de-esser might be good for audio! My ears might just be sensitive making music but those sharp "s"es kept hurting my ears. Keep it up thrill ❤❤
I have a significant mura or “dirty window” effect in my Quest 3 in VR. It’s a kind of texture like noise pattern over the image that follows wherever you look. Very similar to a screen door effect, however it’s blotchy, looks like the lenses are dirty even though I just got this thing, and I cleaned them to make sure. Compared to the Pro, it’s a lot worse on the 3. The Pro also has this mura effect however I did not even notice it until I compared it to the 3. The Pro lenses seem a lot better than the 3 at this point.
Classic VR HMD lottery. I had 4 Q2 at home and there were 2 different types of lenses - newer Meta was blurrier and had smaller IPD and three different LCD panels - 2 were much dimmer, 2 much brighter but one had pixel inversion and the other had very grey blacks. Just on this set of four. My Pro has slight wave in the lenses but I got it so cheap I can take it.
The thing that made me go and spend my money on the Quest 2 was Echo VR. So I only see myself buying a Quest 3 is if the price drops and some cool software comes along. I could really see myself work in a VR environment, but both the hardware and the software is not there yet.
The hardware isn't there? Maybe on the quest 2 it's not. The virtual displays on quest 3 are razor sharp thanks to the pancake optics. I'd say with a light over a keyboard that fixes the passthrough grain substantially.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 well I can only talk about Quest 2. I don't have access to a Quest 3 to see for myself and don't feel like buying it to realize it's still not there for me. And even if the hardware was fine I have a problem with software. If I can't do basic work on it standalone like answering email (Gmail worked and then stopped working) and get this there is no Polish keyboard support. I can't write in my language. And the voice typing is off in my region. So kinda bummer.
Uhm... yes it is? You can import your real furniture and keyboard into the environment or talk to text, and you can link to a pc or laptop, and you can collaborate with coworkers in project management style rooms....
The method you found at 13:21 to fix the pain is best summarized as “the 90’s time traveling gamer fit” method. Because it combines a form of VR/AR tech that every leading technology company wanted to be the first to develop and likely subsequently monopolize, with the backwards Ash Ketchum baseball cap.
Great first impressions as usual, shame about the gray screen problem because LCD things, the bad mic (you could really hear the popping) and the headset strap. Thank you for the detailed view of the device, lole what each sense was. I appreciate hearing about these VR devices from you, as you always seem to nail it, I'll wait for the price to come down before picking one up 👍🏻
@@euden_yt Better comfort? Q1 is about 100 grams heavier than the Q3 and there''s just no way the Q3 isn't more comfortable.Q3 is more shallow, doesnt stick out your face and is much, much smaller. I've only had experience with the Q1, but I can't believe it will be as bad as that headset. Absolute brick that was. Couldn't stand it for more than 30 mins and others I asked couldn't too.
For anyone wondering, the controllers can be submerged in water. If ever shortly. Found out the hard way. Pulled them out. Dried them. They worked just fine. Truly, I was impressed. Wouldn't do it again though.
Thanks for the great and balanced review. I don't think Meta will drop the price of this as much as the Quest pro. The Quest 3 seems like decent value for the hardware that you are getting. Think about the fact that most smartphones go for well over $1,000 nowadays and this headset is arguably more complicated than many of those. I won't be upset if they do drop the price because I think that is good for VR I'm just not sure if they have the margin to drop the price this time.
How does it do with glasses do you think? My quest two actually has scuff marks from me having to wear glasses that actually rubbed lens to lens and I had to use old damaged glasses with them adjusted super close to my eyes just so they didn't rub on the lenses. Also does the quest two style aftermarket head strap work just as fine on the quest 3?
I'd love to hear what the performance is like for games like Blade and Sorcery. I always felt like I was pushing the quest 2 to the brink with that game.
Really appreciate your reviews, always balanced while maintaining optimism. I think the bad mic and strap are two things that are easily replacable by consumers. With many people already having their own audio set ups they want to use. It looks like Meta chose to skimp on areas that are easily upgradable, which I think is a reasonable choice - brings cost down.
Thrill of The Fight VR is the killer mixed-reality app right now, if you're into that. It's pretty faithful to the experience of actually boxing, complete with the intense but enjoyable cardio workout and yet free from the busted noses. Being able to trade blows at full-force without the risk of accidently uppercutting my toddler has been a God-send for my fitness. I have literally felt my conditioning begin to return and my energy increase in the week since my Quest 3 arrived. If I'm completely honest I have some mixed things to say about this headset, being primarily a PCVR user and having upgraded from the Rift S, but some of the standalone apps might be what saves me from buyer's remorse long enough to hold out for PCVR fixes.
"If you still have a quest 2 it might be worth holding out" Yeah I'm really feeling that. At this point I'm more waiting for a cheaper, smaller headset like the Bigscreen. comfort is legit half the reason I barely use my quest anymore!
That mic quality is atrocious. Really disappointing. Re the warping of the passthrough-- finally, someone shows what it REALLY looks like. How easily do you think Meta might be able to fix this? The warping shouldn't be there, at all, not in this price range..... thanks, Thrill!
Got it yesterday and I agree with everything. ESPECIALLY the comfort. It is the most uncomfortable thing I have put on my face. It hurts my forehead and it blows my mind that they thought this was comfortable. Ridiculous. I will have to make my own cushion for it
This review was very useful. The biggest question I had was about the black levels. I kept my quest 1 and passed in the quest 2 because the old black levels were so much better. Something luke Vader immortal was better on quest 1 for black levels
the arms on the headset move so you can even out the pressure on your face. when you first put it on the pressure will be on your forehead then you need to adjust the arms to even it out. if you angle them far enough you can have it resting on your cheek bones not even touching your forehead. 13:24 also everyone shown here doesn't have it on correctly. i used the quest 2 since launch and bought 4 headsets for friends and this is very common for new users with the default strap. people tend to pull the strap down too far over their ears but once you learn how to use the arms you can lessen the slack on the top strap and get a good fit
what i learned is ''the quest 3 is great, only if you are willing to spend hundreds more on making it comfortable, allowing the barrety to last over max 2 hours and just straight up not hurt.'' i feel like these are things that meta could have easily avoided had they spend more time with comunity creators ironing out issues or simply making a proper strap as i feel like they on purpose make the quest uncomfortable just so people have to spend moremoney to make it usable.
Meta made a top notch super hero movie, they made tickets cheaper than any marvel movie to drum up business you paid for the ticket who's job is it to buy the candy, drinks, and popcorn? yours or metas? That's right, next time you want maximum premium effort device go buy a $1,500-$3,500 headset.
They offer the best value-for-money product by a margin, even a big one, and you still complain? Ponting out imperfections is one thing, but complaining on a product with this value-for-money instead of appreciation seems to me like people are not going to ever be happy.
I'm not sure if it's just me but I think the Quest 3 when it comes to comfortability, doesn't feel much on my ears, no pressure on my forehead or any nose smashing unless I purposely shake the headset, also I have a fine FOV, I didn't move it to make it comfortable. Might just be me though, comment if you don't have the comfortability problem!
My first and only Quest is starting to give out after 3 or 4 years of love, so I'm wondering how much better the 3 (and more expensive) would be to upgrade to. Glad we got a good, reliable review to enjoy.
I'm very surprised to hear what you said about the mic. Mine and my buddies doesn't sound that bad at all. If anything it's the best mic we've ever had on an Oculus/meta headsets.
The quest three looks great. It looks like a good upgrade from my quest to which broke on me last weekend, which is really sad but overall I’m glad I have a chance that I could upgrade soon not a big fan that the old straps are not compatible with the new ones but it’s OK
As someone who has dabbled a bit with early VR (AMOLED headsets), I'm having a really hard time accepting the f-tier black levels in the Quest 3. Any scene that is even a bit dark feels so cloudy. Even for an LCD, it seems atrocious, like twice as bad as it has any right to be. Right now, I think it's a dealbreaker, but I'll see if I adapt in the next couple weeks before deciding whether or not to return it.
Honestly, I returned mine. Multiple reasons for it, but the LEDs were just too bad for me. Getting a cinema experience is just not possible and horror games literally instantly get stripped of nearly all of their fun. Did you keep yours?
I also think not having a 256 versions is really weird. 128 is too little for most people and 512 way too much. 256 is just what I would always be going for and I feel like it is the perfect option for most people. The price difference is so massive too. Really feel like they missed the mark there.
512 is actually perfect. You want room for recordings, mods, and user generated stuff. The 128 is definitely child's play tho, it'll definitely see a refresh to 256 I bet, once games become built for quest 3. The OS alone takes up 25gb.
The Quest 3 is a beast. There are a few things that hold it back from being perfect though. Meta surprisingly actually sent a headset but I already bought one (actually two...) for the review, so I'll be giving it away on my discord this month. Join up: discord.gg/thrill
Nice, if im right, the shipping of the byfrost vr gloves are being shipped. Cant wait until i see a review from that!!!!

As a certified Beat Saber Bro, I can say the Quest 3 will be a contender for the best controllers in competitive beat saber.

I’m getting the impression that the more comfortable a headset is, the more a user is going to be using it and enjoying it. Comfort should be a primary goal for all headsets. That’s why the beyond must be so amazing to use
Factor in the idea that the company is selling £100 upgrade headstraps and you have your answer
True, I only own 1 headset (og htc vive) and too lazy to use it more than 5 times a year cause how heavy it is
Comfort is way harder to show as marketing number specs than resolution or camera count.. 👀💰
@@jsivonenVR so true. It’s all gotta come from reviewers. But we can all agree that the beyond looks absolutely comfy compared to the toasters we use

I'm curious how good the Apple headset's mixed reality will be.
From what I've heard, it's very high quality and probably more of what you expected.
The lenses are really the biggest upgrade, you have to try to understand
@@ggadams639 Agreed. I'd recommend trying it out at a Best Buy or a similar store that would have a demo on display.
have to agree. I like my Q2
@@ggadams639 Lenses are pretty good on 3. they should have done that with 2 as well
Regarding power, in Medal of Honor they let you adjust resolution and other visual settings.
It's incredible to see the evolution of VR technology over the years, and the Quest 3 seems like it's pushing boundaries.
I haven't use it in a while now, but I bet Eleven Table Tennis would be great like that too.
Quest 3 just came in few days ago, and I’ve been enjoying it.
The pancakes lenses paired with the display makes it look beautiful imo.

A lot of the MR stuff is more software related than hardware related, so you can (hopefully) expect more updates to perfect it as time goes on.
And quest 2 mixed reality has improved recently
Solid review! I am a VR developer, and this was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hope all is well.
yeah im concerned too, but hopefully nothing bad happened
And hopefully one that cuts out the sides for those of us Pro users who liked MR with the light blockers taken off

I would love a custom 3d printed facial interface ala bigscreen beyond.

This is by far the best headset they’ve ever made.. but.
The first day I got my quest 3 I had nothing but issues. It turns out that’s because the headset did not update yet. Once the headset fully updated, it was a much better experience, and the following day was even better. I just got the chance to try a friend's Quest 3 today and while certain things are better, they're mostly small things. Idk if it’s my charging cable or the actual headset itself but it does not like to charge sometimes and it’s really annoying when I plug it in before I leave for work or something and then I come home to a still dead headset
Yep Quest 2 all the way
Practically no screen door effect, maybe, but it's still there.
@@echelon2k8 Meta cuts the costs for maximizing the profit.
With my almost 73mm IPD this is a godsend... I could not really use Quest2 but I can use this. I am really thankful for combination of extended IPD range and huge sweet spot of the lenses. To me it is almost the greatest improvement and feature in quest 3.
my wife is on the other end, having 55mm, sometimes 54, depending on who and how its meassured. but the sentiment is: youre the 2%. we already have 90% of people covered.. sucks to be you to much effort for little gain.
i have around 73-75mm and the quest 2 was generally ok, it was only an issue when i was trying to focus really hard on something.
I was worried getting 128 gigs after your comment but I feel like its manageable as the biggest games are around 30gb
yeah, i just saw someone say that but it seemed pretty unlikely, he was prob talking about Agard 1 (the pc version)
@@StasVarych
I mean let’s be real it’s mind blowing to people who had like the first oculus with the one controller to people who never had a vr set before
I got mine (128Gb version) three days ago and I'm loving it.
@@pieguy5692 3-5 years probably.
yeah, I am still using my Quest 1 and I hate the greyish LCD panels.

Meta announced that it's higher end luxory Pro headset will launch in 2025 to compete against apple vision Pro, using dual micro-oled displays, higher resolution etc.
Getting this for Christmas and so excited! Been using ancient artifact for vr gaming, oculus rift, and I cannot wait to experience this.
I went from a phone VR setup using drivers for PC to this. It arrives tomorrow and I can't wait.
Finally, an honest review that doesn't make this headset sound like it's the best ever made.
Yeah! So many youtuber have sold out for event invites and free stuff. Walking and talking paid for ads.
Did you get an elite strap? That’s what I did. But the one day gap between having it and not having it was awful
@@EnderMon is the elite strap really that much better? How can it make the comfort better? I am considering buying it
@@Banneri it’s a loooot of money so if you can wait for a third party to make one I would.
Same, i love it but comfort sucks. Going to order the BoboVR headstrap soon.
Agreed. Glad that ThrillSeeker has maintained high expectations for quality when talking about this feature.
@@Eyelnab you going to cry about it?
Something almost nobody mentions is that the edges around the lenses on Quest 3 are really thick compared to Quest Pro. I have to keep it set pretty far out to keep it from touching my nose.
After owning 12-13 VR headsets, this is by far best value headset I have ever used! Well done Meta even though I'm not a fan of Meta but this blows everything out in terms of value for money
Any advice for newbies? I'm looking to buy one myself and don't know where to start. Is it worth buying the 512 GB option?
@@Lukiepookie69420 if you talk about value, soeciall for new joiners into VR, I will say nothing else will come close to Quest 3..... Depends on your usage you can decide on storage, I myself play mostly on PCVR so I got 128GB but if you like Quest games or the upcoming ones it's good idea to take 512GB since it's not expandable storage later
Some will say wait for Pico but the software side won't be as good as Quest due to regional issues and after introduction of MR into these, software is very important
Yeh that wouldn't be my cup of tea at all. But I agree something that involves constructing something within your own space.
How is that a killer app. That sounds like something only you’d be interested in
Sounds like it should be a hot wheels game… but sounds lame imo, but to each their own
something like that already exists but its rollercoaster instead. i forgot the name of the game

Don't forget LCD local dimming for deep inky blacks. Such a shame Meta used just a regular LCD display.
Comfort has been great for me after fiddling. I had the same forehead issues at first but fiddling with the strap (loosening it just a bit, experiment with the arms and topstrap) has made the comfort great for me.
whats it like being able to afford things?
To honest it's just fells boring after you have eveything
I was torn between hopping up the ladder with an aero, but I couldn't stomach buying all the other required stuff with it. For $500 i'm already super happy with my quest 3. Shooting down my own apartment walls to reveal an alien planet is pretty cool
what did you think of the passthrough?
@@AfkBxnditI don’t have Quest 3, but imo passtheough on Quest 2 seems to be better within the past month. I used it for a mixed reality game and I saw almost everything irl just fine (except my phone). I can only imagine Quest 3 will be better

I doubt they will since they continue to sell quest 2s despite the release of the quest 3
it's Meta
Quest 1 was bad hardware. It gave a bad experience
Most excited to see how Valve hopefully responds with an index 2.
I don't think they can
One thing I want to know about the Quest 3 is if they fixed the foggy lenses issues, they're probably the thing I dislike the most about the Quest 2 is that they fog up very easily
so far I havent had any problems with it on quest 3, and on quest 2 I was constantly having to remember to breath in through my nose and out the mouth to avoid fogging (or do the trick of covering the nose area and breathing in through the nose to suck the fog/moisture out of the headset, if you werent aware of that trick its awesome!)
@@teamcarlisle2 that's good to know, I heard they added a little vent in the side of the Q3 that helps with it
I never even had that issue
I still have that issue on Quest 3, but not nearly as bad as on Quest 2. I can actually use the headset now lol.

They are the same lenses.
Sounds like you got a defective one.
RIP echo
Uhm... yes it is?
You can import your real furniture and keyboard into the environment or talk to text, and you can link to a pc or laptop, and you can collaborate with coworkers in project management style rooms....
I couldn't work on virtual monitors on the Quest 2, but I definitely can on the Quest 3. A huge leap. The hardware is here.
I appreciate hearing about these VR devices from you, as you always seem to nail it, I'll wait for the price to come down before picking one up 👍🏻
Still rocking the original quest, plan to use it till it dies, kinda hard to believe that its already been 4 years since it released.
Good idea, in just 4 years they released 2 new versions, no need to get rid of what works just fine
I think wat my plan would be if quest 3 wouldn't be my second headset is to get a quest 3 and then only use it with my PC
The Quest 1 has better comfort and oled, after so many years it still got strong points.
K now test the headset pls
Thanks for the great and balanced review. I don't think Meta will drop the price of this as much as the Quest pro. The Quest 3 seems like decent value for the hardware that you are getting. Think about the fact that most smartphones go for well over $1,000 nowadays and this headset is arguably more complicated than many of those. I won't be upset if they do drop the price because I think that is good for VR I'm just not sure if they have the margin to drop the price this time.
Hell of a first impression video 😂 (felt quite in depth like a full review) thanks as always.
But when he threw the quest 3 in the dryer and the music became upbeat made me laugh so hard
Actually i did some testing with the mic and got much better recording quality then he has in this video. Don‘t know why.

The only thing I'm waiting for is OLED. It's been a long wait.
The quest 3 is way more comfortable the 2 for me. Right away It feels more like a bike helmet than the lead filled scuba mask feeling of the quest 2.
That mic quality is atrocious. Really disappointing. Re the warping of the passthrough-- finally, someone shows what it REALLY looks like. How easily do you think Meta might be able to fix this? The warping shouldn't be there, at all, not in this price range..... thanks, Thrill!
To be honest the quest 2 sounds better
Got it yesterday and I agree with everything. ESPECIALLY the comfort. It is the most uncomfortable thing I have put on my face. It hurts my forehead and it blows my mind that they thought this was comfortable. Ridiculous. I will have to make my own cushion for it
I got the strap and it made alot of differance in the feel. No more dent in my forehead.
I don’t think it’s that bad I mean I kinda grew into what it was and not complain even with other vr sets so hooray for me ion trippin
This review was very useful. The biggest question I had was about the black levels. I kept my quest 1 and passed in the quest 2 because the old black levels were so much better. Something luke Vader immortal was better on quest 1 for black levels
I agree. Nothing but OLED will do.
yeah, I hope META will offer a deluxe version with OLED soon
the arms on the headset move so you can even out the pressure on your face. when you first put it on the pressure will be on your forehead then you need to adjust the arms to even it out. if you angle them far enough you can have it resting on your cheek bones not even touching your forehead.
Let me tell you they made it uncomfortable to sell you their expensive accessories.
Meta made a top notch super hero movie, they made tickets cheaper than any marvel movie to drum up business
you paid for the ticket
who's job is it to buy the candy, drinks, and popcorn?

That's right, next time you want maximum premium effort device go buy a $1,500-$3,500 headset.
They offer the best value-for-money product by a margin, even a big one, and you still complain? Ponting out imperfections is one thing, but complaining on a product with this value-for-money instead of appreciation seems to me like people are not going to ever be happy.
Dude where are you? We need your review's second part.
Very cool! Me personally I think the goods outweigh the bads so far. Very thankful for an honest impression though. Keep up the good stuff👍
I'm very surprised to hear what you said about the mic. Mine and my buddies doesn't sound that bad at all. If anything it's the best mic we've ever had on an Oculus/meta headsets.
I have a friend who has the quest3 and it doesn't sound this bad. Maybe thrill got a bad one
Make an updated review on the headset now that you've owned it for over a year

they either make it uncomfortable on purpose to sell premium straps, or its specifically made for Zucc's head shape
Thrill, I don't usually comment but I've been following you for a long time. Are you ok, you haven't posted in a while?
The quest three looks great. It looks like a good upgrade from my quest to which broke on me last weekend, which is really sad but overall I’m glad I have a chance that I could upgrade soon not a big fan that the old straps are not compatible with the new ones but it’s OK
the effort put into your content is crazy
