Both Martin Tyler and John Motson were there for one of the standout games from my youth. In September 2001 for Germany 1-5 England. I think both of their commentary on that game just made it even more special. What a sad loss.

I am one of the many Americans who was brought in and welcomed to the world of international football by his wonderful voice. He curated my love for the Premier League and the sport itself, which remains ever strong to this day. May he rest easy.

I loved John Motson, he was my favourite commentator, he and Barry Davies were legendary, the dynamic duo, Saturday night Match of the day, I will never forget the thrilling Italy v Brazil World cup game in the old RCD Espanol stadium in Barcelona in 1982, the atmosphere was electric, he's commentary was brilliant , with Brazil the favourites crashing out to Rossi's hat trick, he said "'after the game we were told we had to break for the news, I thought God' this is the news" , I think it was he's favourite game , he's co commentator Bobby Charlton had tears in he's eyes John said the emotion of the game had overwhelmed him, and then the France v Portugal semi final Euro 1984 was the other game he's spoke a lot about, with Platini scrambling the winner right at the end of extra time, Thank you John for all the years of your knowledge and your voice you gave to millions . I and so many others will never forget you.
Watching MOTD back in the 80's 90's was always a pleasure with John's commentary he brought his expertness to any game he spoke on, such a sad loss to the beautiful game ❤

Always been a fan of John after he was the commentator on an old PS1 football game. Sounds silly I know but he's an OG who obviously goes way back before the 90s. Top man RIP

John Motson OBE was first a sports commentator on radio 2 before he joined BBC television. Was a great commentator with a great sense of humor. R.I.P. 🙏🌹

One great commentator paying tribute to another ,The two greatest commentators of all times.
Martin Tyler can only aspire to be in the same league as Motson. His prejudice against certain teams reflects in his commentary which sounds almost disappointed and unenthusiastic at times. Motty was a footballing encyclopedia and showed no bias, just pure excitement and professionalism in every game, giving fans plenty of information and allowing them to experience the game through his eyes. This is an extremely sad day, a huge loss in the football community - no-one will ever come close to John Motson. Thanks for the memories Mr Motson. RIP.
We all loved him... iconic... for me his best game his most iconic game was England west Germany 1990... probably the most important game since 1966 before or since simply because England were good enough to lift the thing more so than any other time... everybody knew it at the time and of course we were facing the outstanding germans...an absolute pressure cooker of a game and motson nailed it for us... we'll never forget him r.i.p

Legend, R.I.P. Inspired the next generation to commentate on both men and women’s sides of the game. Robyn Cowen, Seb Hutchinson, Pien Meulensteen, Steve Wilson, Gary Weaver have a lot of similarities to Motson.
