Despite being a giant even before Ferguson's time, United always had the feel of a much smaller club. He obviously built on that ethos when he arrived. Everyone was valued and he instilled respect in his young players for the staff and the ordinary fans. What a contrast to the ultra corporate faceless entity it has become under the Glazers since he left.
I think it was Jamie Johnson's book on United in which he stated that after SAF left, it acted as the handbrake coming off for Woodward, as in for years he'd wanted to get all the gimmicky corporate stuff out that we've come to see, but SAF was the only one stopping it

I truly believe though that Bill Shankly was the man who initiated everything at Anfield and in my opinion, is the main reason why Liverpool are respected around the world. Whether you are a fanatical Liverpool supporter or not, you have to acknowledge what Sir Alex has achieved in his managerial career. He guided an Aberdeen team from virtual no hopers to a side that broke the Old Firm stranglehold in Scottish football, winning 8 trophies in Scotland and 2 in Europe. When he took over at Man United, they were struggling, and then proceeded to win 28 major trophies with them, and rebuilt the team 3-4 times in that period, never an easy thing to do. Greatest ever football coach, for me. And I'm an LFC fan. And he also made 2 CL final runners up. It is quite scary how one person can be so impressive, and from such difficult beginnings. Me grandmother was from Gorbals! We love you Fergie and everything you stand for
SAF: "We never should ... destroy people's dreams. ... The Leicester Cities make what we want in football today." 27:40 Amen. The Glazers don't get that.
@Dw we did indeed. They are parasites and whilst you are correct about the 1 billion quid spent on players they've also withdrawn an additional 1 billion or so from the club on servicing that huge debt they saddled us with and dividends for themselves. Btw they've hardly scratched the surface of repaying that debt yet despite the payments! The infrastructure of the stadium for example is going downhill rapidly due to neglect.
I really want to see this film. I’m not a united fan but don’t think that matters. No matter who ou support or where your allegiance lies you cannot deny sir Alex is just one of the most inspirational men Iv ever heard could listen to him all day long. The guvnor!!
43:00 Fergie makes the point about a hard work ethic being a talent is so true. In years gone by i always assumed hard work was for free and it was a choice but i now see it is actually a talent that one possesses in the same light as a flair or skill for something.
It is a cultivated skill which becomes habitual. One of the hardest but most rewarding skills to build. Along with learning from mistakes and moving on without dwelling and living in them.
Made my childhood - as a Scot and a football fan - as an adult - so much respect for him and his approach to work and life. Fantastic interview and the film brings a new insight into Ferguson. Impact goes beyond football.
It's a brilliant film. Fascinating insight into a traditional socialist Scottish working class culture (which I'm not going to divide by religion) that still exists. Work hard, don't lie, show companion & stand firm in unity against injustice.
I sort of loved and hated him back in the day. Hated him because he was Utd manager and loved him because he was brilliant at his job in fairness and always wanted LFC to have a manager like him but now I actually think Klopp is a better manager than him (because of his personality really).
@@keithp6699 let's see in 10 years. You can't really compare a retired manager with a full career and a relatively new manager at the biggest stage. Right now ferguson dwarfs klopp in terms of success
Ah man, hearing Fergie speak again after being away from the dugout all this time is like hearing a loved one after a long absence. Glad to see The Boss doing well!
Such a humble human being. It is the qualities which made him also got to his teams when he triumphed as player and manager. Small places create great characters, he is one of them. Thanks for all the memories.👌👍🙏
You know the thing about sir Alex Ferguson, A lot of us united supporters had dads, but didn't have a father. He was certainly that for me, a role model who I want6ed to act like I would impress because I learned from him. That is just crazy when we stop and think about it. I am -positive he was a role model/father figure to so many, and how he influenced our lives just by watching him achieve is amazing. No wonder he gets respect from rival fans, wasn't just for what he won but for who he is.
absolutely brilliant interview. thank you so very much for putting it up on this channel for free for us to watch. cannot wait to watch the film but first we have a trophy to win in Poland, if nothing else to give back to Sir Alex for all he's done for us. after the medical scare Sir Alex had.. to see his memory be.. absolutely picture perfect as ever.. what an incredible man.. absolute genius and an honest thank you to club staff and NHS for making sure he s with us today as great as ever.
Fergie absolute living legend he has never forgot his govan roots as fergie once said your representing your parents and the area you grew up in a real old school personality with great values
Such a good film. Always found it interesting growing up as a kid/early teen how much United and SAF were hated. Obviously it was because of succes but growing up supporting a team in the lower leagues allowed me to bot have that bias. That’s what made the late 90s early 00s so enjoyable for me not supporting a prem team. What an era of football that was. The man was just a winner. A full on winner. Can’t fault that at all.
GREAT to hear the recognition from SAF for EVERYONE at the club!!! (How many managers, past or present, of ANY team ANYWHERE, would even think to do that??)...
Excellent interview with the great man..... love the commentary of his time at Aberdeen - for me his achievements there eclipse whatever he went on to achieve with United (although I am biased).... breaking the Old Firm dominance and beating Real Madrid in a European final (still the last team to do so) with 11 Scottish players will never happen again. Looking forward to seeing the film.
Incredible interview. James asked all the right questions. This feels like hes interviewing my grandad, that's the regard that a lot of United fans hold Sir Alex in, and it's great to see him in good health once more. Long may it continue
Fantastic from james Nesbit, knew when to sit and listen. Could listen to Alex Ferguson all day, despite the bias of being a massive Manchester United fan, he really seems like a great and humble man. Genuinely don’t think fame has affected him and he appreciates the common man.
So interesting to see how clear minded and focused both father and son are. Also good to see that Tony Hughes is no longer pestering Baptiste. Good that he found this gig.
Hearing how much respect and enjoyment he got out of Leicester winning in 2015/16 fills me with joy as we all got a chance to see the little guy shoot for the stars without massive money, Fergie knows how big that was, as we all do.
10:35 one of the classiest thing and the upmost personality trade.. don't care how or who as long as you are part of the organisation, it means you're a family.. from the canteen lady, to the stewards officer to the janitors all round..
Genius...and his dedication to football is why his memory is so good Manchester united and football is all he knows... long to live in our memories.... Just like ole Gunnar solskjear is trying to achieve... sir Alex never won anything for United .. straight away...but ole is the only man to play more attacking scoring more goals and maybe conceding more but it's the results that count and when haaland joins his Norwegian manager...we might see OGS Final squad....weve got young squad more time to grow together and next season is United's final saloon
True. The club just isnt the same and the lack of trophies is just the tip of the iceberg. Utd under Fergie was a special place. Were just another billionaires plaything now and not even a good one.

Greatest ever football coach, for me. And I'm an LFC fan. And he also made 2 CL final runners up. It is quite scary how one person can be so impressive, and from such difficult beginnings. Me grandmother was from Gorbals! We love you Fergie and everything you stand for
Respect to you mate :)
@@pistonhedd :) and I still think he is under-rated hahah!
Fair play
SAF: "We never should ... destroy people's dreams. ... The Leicester Cities make what we want in football today." 27:40 Amen. The Glazers don't get that.
Thanks mate
Spot on.
@Dw and their spear heading of the ESL? Ah we'll over look that 'cos they've spent over a billion quid. They're real heroes of football.
What a memory!!!
forever a LEGEND
Alex makes us all see our own dads in him god bless alex
Ferguson seems to have loved Aberdeen so much. Well done.
And Aberdeen loved him. Still do!
This was great! As one born in Govan myself, Sir Alex is indeed a legend. Great interview.
The Greatest there was, the Greatest there EVER will be. Period.
True leader, legend of the game and working class hero. Nothing but respect from Liverpool YNWA 🔥
What else can I say about this amazing man?
Just.........Legend. Thank you Sir Alex ❣⚽️🇮🇪
What a wonderful interview by jimmy nesbitt and great memories by sir Alex
Love the man for the simple fact he is his own man!
💯
Ah man, hearing Fergie speak again after being away from the dugout all this time is like hearing a loved one after a long absence.
Glad to see The Boss doing well!
Such a humble human being. It is the qualities which made him also got to his teams when he triumphed as player and manager. Small places create great characters, he is one of them. Thanks for all the memories.👌👍🙏
Ferguson humble,dont think so.
Excellent interview. Well done James Nesbit.
Fantastic hearing this from the greatest manager in the world and what he and the other people in his life went through well done
absolutely brilliant interview. thank you so very much for putting it up on this channel for free for us to watch. cannot wait to watch the film but first we have a trophy to win in Poland, if nothing else to give back to Sir Alex for all he's done for us.
after the medical scare Sir Alex had.. to see his memory be.. absolutely picture perfect as ever.. what an incredible man.. absolute genius and an honest thank you to club staff and NHS for making sure he s with us today as great as ever.

Totally agree with what you said. Although, I don't think Sir Alex relied on the NHS. I'm sure he pays for the best in private health care
This interview is a masterpiece
What a phenomenal interview.
Just such a great man and genius
What a legend.
Thank you Sir Alex.
Love sir Alex so dearly , living legend
Fergie absolute living legend he has never forgot his govan roots as fergie once said your representing your parents and the area you grew up in a real old school personality with great values
This man went from the pits of part time Scottish football to managing the biggest superstars in world football. Quite extraordinary
Does that remind you or a certain current manager.
Excellent interview with a great human being.
I spent a great night with James nesbitt the night we beat Barcelona semi final, we were adoring fans ☺️
Would love to hear more!
High quality conversations
Brilliant Interview!
Thank you Father 🖤❤🖤❤, forever grateful 😭❤🙏🏽
God bless you sir Alex & thank you for everything ❤
What an interview, what an interview! That was stellar!
Why Cormack Park was not named SAF Park is a bit of a head scratcher. Perfect way to tip the hat
@@ThePurpleLlamaGetsIt Fully agree - hopefully something is done at the new stadium whenever it gets built.
He was an all time great for that alone. Absolutely amazing achievement
1 word for this great man, LEGEND!!@
One of Scotland greatest sons 👏🏻👏🏻
Incredible interview. James asked all the right questions. This feels like hes interviewing my grandad, that's the regard that a lot of United fans hold Sir Alex in, and it's great to see him in good health once more. Long may it continue
Fantastic from james Nesbit, knew when to sit and listen. Could listen to Alex Ferguson all day, despite the bias of being a massive Manchester United fan, he really seems like a great and humble man. Genuinely don’t think fame has affected him and he appreciates the common man.
Legendary
i would listen to sir alex all day, long live legend.
Love Jimmy Nesbitt, and obviously love Sir Alex! This was superb to listen to.
what an incredible and inspiring man, great interview, thank
So interesting to see how clear minded and focused both father and son are.
Also good to see that Tony Hughes is no longer pestering Baptiste. Good that he found this gig.

A person whom I hate with passion, respect n admiration.
Arsenal fan. But have to love and admire fergie. Legend.
same as us united fans listening to Wenger. Nothing but respect for the legends.
It's great to see him in good health.
Hearing how much respect and enjoyment he got out of Leicester winning in 2015/16 fills me with joy as we all got a chance to see the little guy shoot for the stars without massive money, Fergie knows how big that was, as we all do.
excellent interview
10:35 one of the classiest thing and the upmost personality trade.. don't care how or who as long as you are part of the organisation, it means you're a family.. from the canteen lady, to the stewards officer to the janitors all round..
James Nesbitt is lucky to talk to two of the greatest wizards: Gandalf and Sir Alex.
Go ahead Jimberto, class interview 🙌🏻
Greatest manager of all time
The only man who has the wright to say iam winner
Excellent interview. Articulate questions and answers rich in information.
Excellent interview.
Must be tuff to have a dad that the goat
Great Great. Thanks millions
King Alex ❤!
Only He Came Make Every Football Fan's Watch This 1 Hour Clip
There is nothing wrong with his memory after his health scare. He’s a living Legend. God bless you Fergie, you are a good human being.
We are absolutely soulless without sir alex at United.
True. The club just isnt the same and the lack of trophies is just the tip of the iceberg. Utd under Fergie was a special place. Were just another billionaires plaything now and not even a good one.
@@rivolinho ABSOLUTELY spot on. Its tragic.
