Absolute Legend, met him once in a restaurant years ago didn’t wanna disturb during his meal but after he finished he took the time to talk to me for a couple mins. So friendly, kind and humble will never forget that moment. R.I.P. John.

RIP, i met John in Sydney at an England training session, he was walking up and down the touch line, learning the Australian team names and pronunciations. I think he was a bit shocked that someone recognised him. He was very polite and asked me who i supported , Port Vale i answered, he just smiled, great commentator, the voice of my childhood, top bloke, RIP John

A very sad day for football, we lost two greats this week in Dickie Davies & John Motson. John’s commentary’s will live on. We grew up on MOTD and he will forever be tied to that programme. May he rest in peace.

Tyler although in his prime a top commentator can’t hold a candle to Brian Moore or Barry Davies and Motty

Motty had a distinctive voice which you cant forget after watching 50 years of Match of the day , Both him and Brian Moore were the tops at their job and have left us with 2 Legends.Also Dickie Davies with ITV Sport ,loved those saturday afternoons watching the Wrestling. RIP Motty and thanks for your service to the game .
Yes Motty and Brian Moore were really the top two. It really sucks to lose them because they were both kind of youngish especially compared to Murray Walker who made it to 97

Yeah I'm a Leicester supporter and his "It's 11, it's heaven for Jamie Vardy, Hold the back page, hold the front page, a Leicester player has smashed the record" will live with me forever. That achievement of Vardys was made so much more spectacular thanks to John Motson, his death hurts.
John Motson a football icon we talk about player's who are legendary but we couldn't have football they say with out Supporter's but you can't have football with out commentator's.John a gentleman had time for everyone and All supporter's of who ever you support. I am totally gutted he was My man to listen to when I was a kid in the 70s . His knowledge on every football club is the best he got All his info from books and clubs before Google like today. John appealed to everybody from the North to the South of the country in his commentating. He said it how was , was down to earth and was loved by ALL the teams and ALL the fans . As with other sports with their commentators , his voice and standing will be legendary .

RIP John. I remember in the Zidane documentary it began with him narrating, discussing how in his head he hears football through the voice of an old French commentator he listened to as a child. You are one of those football voices for me always and forever.

I've never got saddened by celebrity passings before, this is the first one and I had no idea whatsoever that it would... I could've had a thousand guesses as to which the first celebrity death that will cut me would be and I still wouldn't have guessed John Motson. Its only after his death that I realise just how important he was. I hope his family feel some shred of comfort in knowing that so many people have been touched in their souls by his commentary.
As a kid I used to make my dad laugh during Match of the Day by shouting "ROONEY!!!" in my best John Motson voice. I missed his commentary when he stopped and sad to hear that he has passed

My mates went to watch that classic 5-1 England win against Germany in Munich 2001. They stayed in the same hotel as the BBC crew and took over the bar after the game. Motty was found by my mate at one point passed out drunk at the bar, legend.
