What one must remember is that British exposure to foreign football was a lot less especially in the 90s Gazzetta notwithstanding. This was before social media, mass Internet use as we know it today and the Fifa generation. English clubs had also been banned from Europe and took a long time to catch up mainly thanks to United to be fair. His commentaries are another part of what made European football feel more special in those days.

He was the voice of football growing up in the good ol' 2000s with players like Henry, Drogba and young Messi and Ronaldo. In every competition from world cup to champions league and Premier league. Partnership with Andy Townsend was magnificent as well.

His commentary of the 1999 and 2005 UEFA champions league finals were too special, "Is this the moment. Beckham, in to Sheringham and Solskjaer has won it, winners of Champions league, winners of premier league, champions of FA cup, everything their heart desires" still remains in my mind
about 2005: shame that Smicer goal isn't in this video, it was the best goal he called in this game

It's good to hear him on Talksport. His radio commentaries are brilliant. It's like you're seeing the game. I remember him on Radio City back in the 80s on Liverpool European nights. They were the stuff of legend.

Best commentator of all time ITV want to be ashamed they axed him for the God awefull Sam Matterface.
One this video they missed some of his legendary games Wayne Rooney's first Premiership goal Everton v Arsenal "Remember the name Wayne Rooney" & Champions League semi-final second leg 99 Juventus 1 v 3 Man Utd. 2-3 on aggregate. And I quote " Roy Keane with a captains goal for Manchester United game on"
And then "Dwight Yorke has equalised for Manchester United and they have seen there away goal and have raised it" using a poker analogy. Then finishing with " Yorke goes round Perucci ,Cole will finish it off" Full speed ahead Barcelona" "Manchester United have reached the promise land" absolutely legendary.
For me Clive Tyldesley greater than all other commentators.
So many memorable moments. He added more thrills to the goals whether they were scored in the first half or in the 90th minute.
Have to be honest, I wasn't really Clive Tyldsley's biggest fan growing up, but looking back, I can appreciate just how good he is.

He is mister champion league 2005 was special for his wonderful commentary throughout Liverpool run in the champion league that year while everyone around me think the match was over I never gave up or move from the TV because I could hear the Liverpool fans trying to lift the team it was brilliant broadcast by ITV to show this at half time

oh my days this is the ucl commentator. as a kid i used to watch ucl on itv, and he used to be the commentator, i think even recently in the world cup he was commentator, and still commentated ucl games of course, which i know. my fav commentator
