Not my favourite commentator, that was David Coleman and Barry Davies but still great value. I will always remember his commentary on the Brazil v Italy match 1982. So sad when people that you grew up with on the TV in the 70's die.
I don't know if I'd ever have fallen in love with football as I did without Motty, he was a hero of mine. He could make a 0-0 draw sound like the best game you'd ever watched just through his passion and enthusiasm for the game. A truly lovely bloke too who always had time for everyone. Even a few days on I'm still incredibly devastated. RIP Motty, you'll never be forgotten
From the moment 'Motty' opened his mouth you knew it was him. A 50-year career which saw him commentate on some of the most iconic games in English football. what a sad day this is. 77 years of age is no age at all these days. he has left a huge legacy. He will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace Motty. We will remember your contribution to football.
Rip in peace motty. Legend. Will never get a commentator like him ever again. I saw him loads of time while working at Palace how I wish now I had a pic taken with him while I had the chance.
R. I. P MOTTY! I remember looking forward to listening to you on my dad's old transitor radio while growing up in Nigeria every weekend. The passion in your voice 🗣️ made me feel like I was actually in every stadium! That part of my childhood was fun because of you! 🙏👋. Thank you! Rest easy!
Three voices of football from my childhood....Motson, Moore and Davies, when I was kicking a ball around the garden it would usually be John Motson's voice in my head as I scored the imaginary winner in the cup final, RIP John.
Rip Motty His voice always brings me back to early days of fifa and match of the day on a Saturday evening when it was the only place you could see the goals
RIP Motty, absolute Broadcasting Legend/COMMENTATOR. ....10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals....absolutely amazing, it was Italia 90 when i first heard the legend Motty in the England V W Germany sem i final but than watching back to 986 World cup final Argentina v West Germany "Burruchagga is through for Argentina can he do it...its there..Burruchagga has made it 3: 2 ".........amazing Motty RIP sir, and will always be the top of the Broadcasting/Commentating "Voice of Football"
John Motson was and always forever will be known as Mr Match of the Day. His knowledge of football was literally second to none. What a wonderful human being, what an incredible broadcaster and sports commentator, the very best that this country has produced and his great voice, warmth, funny humour, you name it - he will be so sorely missed. England and the world lost an all-time international treasure.
John Motson was his own encyclopedia with regards to football, the greatest commentator of my generation, sad sad day for football commentary, thank you for some great memories, RIP John🙏❤️👊⚒️
I said this on another video as a 48 year old American from New York who didn't know who he was, I wanted to send my condolences to his friends and family as well as the fans who listened to him. He sounded like a real legend of the game and industry
RIP Motty, as iconic a voice for football as Murray Walker was to F1. And a wonderful man to boot. Weirdly enough it was only a few days ago I googled to see if he was still alive, such a shame.
Also, you can't forget about David Beckham's free kick goal in the dying minutes vs Greece that sent Germany into the World Cup playoffs for the first and only time.
Ever so sad ,from a child I grew up with his best commentary of football ever and has ,and will never be beaten, condolences to his family and close friends
My favourite John Motson moments include his riveting interviews with Brian Clough, and his unforgettable commentary of David Seaman's sublime FA Cup save on Paul Peschisolido. What I admired most about him was the passionate intensity of his broadcasting voice. RIP.
Motty, giving a pre match prediction. Standing in the middle of a snow covered pitch. During a blizzard. Wearing his almost as legendary sheepskin coat. STILL talking stats...Awesome!
so sad legendary so many found memories of John commentating on the FA cup final eating fish and chips on a Saturday afternoon with me grandad who's also no longer with us RIP motty
"It's Drogba again. And Chelsea had scored!" The first FA Cup Final at current version of Wembley back in 2007 might be remembered about this word, when Chelsea defeated Manchester United with Didier Drogba's goal.
For me it was Brian Moore and Mottie goodnight sweet gentlemen i will never forget growing up with your voices accompanying my subbuteo tournaments 🏆⚽🥅🏐🌹

The excitement in the voices of modern commentators always seems contrived to me but with Motty it was genuine.
RIP to a true legend of the game. Condolences to his family and friends.
A huge loss for sport, he has always been my favourite commentator and the voice of my childhood in the 90s watching England.
He was the voice of football. He and Brian Moore are legends.
They think it's all over, it is now
That's an iconic word referencing to England's 1966 World Cup win.
However, it was the famous one from Ken Wolstenholme.
