You dont have to be a fan of French football to get goosebumps When Platini scored the winner, The Theatre and drama of the beautiful game says it all......
In saying that I Intensely dislike Platini, I believe he hates the English game and was allways biased against English clubs when he was head of UEFA, I am delighted he is banned!

Tigana.........still Tigana...........Platini.........GOAL!!!!!!!!!! apparently John Motson leapt out of his seat when that goal went in. Possibly the most passionate commentary ever.
The last tournament where the commentators sounded like they were on the phone. A sad loss to progress. I'm convinced that electronic hiss makes Motty's moment of ecstasy even more special.
Fabian Patrizio I remember watching this game as a 9 yr old, and it’s still the best game I ever saw, the commentary was brilliant, and as you mentioned, the commentary sounds so much better, half snowy, and the fans are a lot louder , the commentary nowadays, they just talk over games, opinions, I mean 3 of them now waffling on, we just need the commentary to tell us who’s who, like motson and we have a football brain to figure out what’s going on... !! What an epic Semi final , Euro 84!
kisbie Yes,it does give that feeling of it being that bit more of an exotic,far-away,hard-to-get-to event. The equivalent now might have to be beaming back commentary from a match being played on the moon.
Just one of those games that defied logic. Was there that night. Fortunate to get tickets. What a purely brilliant game. Atmosphere and air horns electric. Not seen like this today.
Remember watching this match as a kid, one of the best games of the eighties. France's World cup semi final with West Germany in 82 was a cracking match too.
This game was very important for Portuguese football and for Portugal as a nation back in the 80's. We're a poor country, going trough a severe economic crisis and many of our fellow citizens we're immigrants in France, facing discrimination and taking jobs French people didn' t want. This helped to regain some proud in ourselves.
i remember well watching this match on tv back then in 1984 as 18 year old. Such A classic and memorable European Cup semi final. Both team were superb. Both keepers, Joel Bat for france and Bento for Portugal were at their best. The france quartet. in Fernandez, tigana, girresse and their captain platini gave an unbelieveable performances. The game ended with France won 3-2, thanks to a last minute goal in the second half extra time, through who else , Michel Platini who became the tournament top scorer.
The 80s was the best for Football, full stop :) Nations had identity back then. Brazil played like/ looked like Brazil as did Italy, Germany, France, England, Argentina etc........ 1978 - 1986 WCs were the best and will never be surpassed...
I agree partially, because I consider England 66, Mexico 70, Germany 74 and Italy 90 also great, great world cups. Globalization eliminated nationalisms, boundaries, differences and World Cups have lost emotion in the 21st century. I prefer living in 2018, but World Cups back then where full of emotions.

I was 7 then and I vividly remember being a huge fan of Manuel Bento in the 80's, though I can't have seen him too many times. I think this match might have been the reason.
............ Yes, especially when the FIFA/EUFA referees are bias in favour of France. ( 'FIFA and EUFA are French organizations, aren't they ? )
@@ahahmarmelade2050 ok ! Can you see France Germany 1982 .... the referee was for the France ... of course 😁🤣
@@ahahmarmelade2050 ... France Koweit 1982 ... the referee was for France too ... Lol
@@barric94 FIFA AND EUFA ARE KILLING FOOTBALL and if football fans lose confidence in FIFA/EUFA foot will die.
That French midfield complimented each other perfectly. Possibly the best midfield ever assembled.
Best midfield ever, like ballet
THE SECOND HALF OF PORTUGAL GOALKEEPER WAS INSANE... LITERALLY UNBEATABLE
1 - BENTO
Apart from the 2 (2nd half) goals that went in
Bento!! !
What a fantastic match. Still remember till this day.
I was 11 at the time, watched it with my Granny and Granda, an amazing shared transcendent experience. The noise, the heat, the exhaustion, the ecstasy and heartbreak.
You dont have to be a fan of French football to get goosebumps When Platini scored the winner, The Theatre and drama of the beautiful game says it all......
+mcbrando - So true. I am English and always return to this game when I need to remember how great the game can be.
In saying that I Intensely dislike Platini, I believe he hates the English game and was allways biased against English clubs when he was head of UEFA, I am delighted he is banned!
I was 14 when I saw the frogs get away with all the luck in the world(min. 119)!What a game of Bento, Chalana, and that monster of a player called RUI MANUEL TRINDADE JORDÃO!
2016-Revenge it's a sweet that doesn't get you fat!!!
@@kevinstoneham1245 Also return to Germany-France 82... The most dramatic ever.
@dan lociol Je suis chez moi, PARVALHÃO!!!
John Motson elevates this epic match to God like status!
Platini.....Goooooooaaaaalllll!!!!
One of the greatest of all time and missed by many
You're right, this wasn't televised like a world cup would back then
Tigana.........still Tigana...........Platini.........GOAL!!!!!!!!!! apparently John Motson leapt out of his seat when that goal went in. Possibly the most passionate commentary ever.
+Mark Sims wihtout doubt mark sims...... wow he put something into this game!!
But why never with England? Strange...
Jhon Motson is great!!!!!!
The lad Motty did good!
I will never forget this match🇫🇷
I was 12 years old when I watched this game live at home... I will never forget it!
Watched this game as a 9 year old and still one of the best I've ever seen.Fabulous tournament Euro 84, despite the absence of my own country.
The last tournament where the commentators sounded like they were on the phone. A sad loss to progress. I'm convinced that electronic hiss makes Motty's moment of ecstasy even more special.
Agree....and the '78 WC was even better...felt like a WC......now it just all blurs into the next game, Champions League, premiers, etc...all the same
+Fabian Patrizio 1982 was a bit better
Fabian Patrizio
I remember watching this game as a 9 yr old, and it’s still the best game I ever saw, the commentary was brilliant, and as you mentioned, the commentary sounds so much better, half snowy, and the fans are a lot louder , the commentary nowadays, they just talk over games, opinions, I mean 3 of them now waffling on, we just need the commentary to tell us who’s who, like motson and we have a football brain to figure out what’s going on... !!
What an epic Semi final , Euro 84!
kisbie Yes,it does give that feeling of it being that bit more of an exotic,far-away,hard-to-get-to event. The equivalent now might have to be beaming back commentary from a match being played on the moon.
None of todays commentary will be up to John motson or Barry Davies standards
From Baku, Azerbaijan: France forever!
Merci man
Just one of those games that defied logic. Was there that night. Fortunate to get tickets. What a purely brilliant game. Atmosphere and air horns electric. Not seen like this today.
I just don't recall France dominating so much in normal time, was interesting to see, I always remembered it was a great game
Remember watching this match as a kid, one of the best games of the eighties. France's World cup semi final with West Germany in 82 was a cracking match too.
R.I.P Michel Hidalgo
RIP Jordao
Such simple but epic commentary for that winner. Three words but straight to the point and the emotion in his voice was amazing
Right you are.
i remember well watching this match on tv back then in 1984 as 18 year old.
One of the greatest games ever played, and commentary simply superb
Great match by two great teams
The 80s was the best for Football, full stop :)
Nations had identity back then.
Brazil played like/ looked like Brazil
as did Italy,
Germany,
France,
England,
Argentina etc........
1978 - 1986 WCs were the best and will never be surpassed...
it was a golden era of football
the seventies (as the 70 WC) were even better
I agree partially, because I consider England 66, Mexico 70, Germany 74 and Italy 90 also great, great world cups. Globalization eliminated nationalisms, boundaries, differences and World Cups have lost emotion in the 21st century. I prefer living in 2018, but World Cups back then where full of emotions.
Agreed 100 percent
And now kids sees messi and penaldo who are overrated media players are the best in history while football has finished IT'S sweets in 80 and 90

Franchement magique. J avais 9 ans.
Motty's (RIP) commentating on this game made it more enjoyable to watch. Also kudos to both goalkeepers who were in fine form that evening. What a game. More of the same this evening please.
Wow ! The speed this French midfield breaks from their own half is never to be seen again in football.
I remember watching it, one of the greatest games ever.
It's so frustrating that this amazing generation of France never won a world cup!
Yep and were robbed against that famous match against Germany.
It's football : Hungary was defeated by Germany in 1954 with their best team ever, the same with the Netherlands 20 years after, Portugal couldn't win any trophy with great players like Figo, Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes, Deco, Couto and Victor Baia and did it with their worst team in 20 years, Belgium tries to win something with their present golden generation...
Not the mental strength to go all the way
The same sad destiny happened to Socrates, Zico, Edder,Falcao(1982 and 1986)
In football, the teams with the most spectacular play often fail before those with the more realistic play. That's football.
Two words for each: Manuel Bento and Fernando Chalana!!!
A great piece of commentary that summed up one of the great games of all time. R.I.P John Motson 😢

The most beautiful soccer match of the history
I'm English but this brings tears to my eyes. Just pure football and drama. Football now is a soulless sanitised version of what it was.
