    You look absolutely stunning today I love the soft makeup look on you. My mom use to tell me when I was little watching her put her makeup on that using more product baby isn't always a good thing. Oh how I miss her she passed away at the young age of 56 I use to love watching her put her ponds cold cream on her face every night before bed and her oil of Olay on every morning it's the little tings like that I miss so very much! Your soft makeup looks always remind me of how my mom use to wear hers. Sorry for the long comment. 😊

    I'm in my 50's and I only use a setting powder in strategic areas where needed, not all over my face. Under my eyes to set my concealer which works great to not only keep my concealer from creasing but to also blur my crepey skin somewhat. I also use it over concealer in my deeper set lines like around my mouth which also helps to minimize/blur them and prevent shadows. I love the NYX pressed banana setting powder for this. The only powder I use all over is my bronzer which has a slight glow to it to lessen the dry look that can come with it. Thanks for the info on this! Really helps to clarify what all of these products are for. :)

    Elle, you are by far hands down the very best "beauty guru" on RUclips!! Not sure of the title you want to use lol I keep learning so much from you!!! Seriously with all of my heart I thank you 😘😘😘😘 I only started wearing makeup in my 30s and now I don't just wear powder and mascara lol I didn't even know what mascara was till my daughter told me 😂😂😂 love you girl. Bless you and your beautiful family❤❤❤😘💞

    Yes Elle. For me (56) setting powders do such unflattering things for my skin, making me look harsh and even older. I recently purchased the Hourglass Ambient (dim light) and the effect is much more forgiving for me. Would you also recommend Mac Mineralized Skinfinish as a finishing powder? Thanks for another great video and your skin is beautifully glowing as usual. ❤️😘

    Awesome video! You are a fantastic "teacher" and make up artist! Question: the two powders I use are the ByTerry hyaluronic hydra powder for my face (after liquid foundation) and cover fx illuminating powder after applying my concealer under my eyes. I am 53 so I do not want to add any texture or emphasis fine lines!🙈 Am I using the correct lightweight powders to do the job?!!! Thanks, Elle!!💋

    I use the laura mercier translucent powder to set. I'm still trying to find a good finishing powder for touch-ups. But I don't know what to go for. I know I want mattifying since I am extremely oily but I also have a lot of texture on my skin that I want to blur

    I agree w/you on your assessment of the use of setting powders for more mature skin but am thankful that powders have improved over the years. So many have hyaluronic acid in them now & many are even created for dryer skin types. Having said that, I primarily use a light application of finishing powder for buffing & setting the under eye. If I need to take a compact with me for touch-ups, there are some great ones like the La Mer Sheer Pressed, Sisley Blur Expert, or a selection from Chantecaille which are created for dryer skin types.👍🏻

    Hey gorgeous! What do you suggest for a luminous DRUGSTORE powder? I'm thinking I should stick with luminous under foundation liquids cause I have super dry skin! I'm one of your "mature" subscribers and part of the family now (I hope).. I need help cause oils, creams, lotions uggh & still horrible results. I use vit e oil thru out the day & nothing works or looks hydrating. Even the Neutrogena hydro boost looks dry on me.. Any help will be appreciated. I'm finding I have to use a very light application of any BB cream or shear out even the lightest coverage due to my ever falling & won't get up face..😥😥 Damn it.. I want my old young face again! This getting old thing is for the birds! Lots of love for you!❤😘PS..Has to be very budget friendly tho😝

    I've been really focusing on skin care this year. I find that my skin care really affects how my foundation wears (slipping right off of my face). If I use powder to set, it starts looking cakey. I've tried several foundations, moisturizers, sunscreens, primers and serums in an attempt to remedy. Any tips on how to avoid this?

    Wow Elle I'm really interested in this subject, as you say as you get older you have to be careful, so my question is I've never wore a finishing powder, I didn't know what one was lol but I always press a little setting powder under the nose & just onto the cheeks for enlarged pores, so can I use a finishing powder for the purposes of enlarged pores & texture? I'd love a tutorial on how you use finishing powder on different clients maybe? 🤗🌸🤗xx

    QUESTION: If setting powders are not recommended for mature skin due to it settling in fine lines, why use it for special occasions? And are all compacts foundation and setting powder or are there some that are just powder that you can use to apply with a brush or sponge and use to to touch up while out?

      J M, absolutely! My mom is 76. She is in a wheel chair so we are no longer able to make our annual pilgrimage to Neiman’s downtown. I took her to Sephora and they ignored us! I saw groups of employees just standing around talking. Shoppers wouldn’t even move out of the way for us! What is wrong with people!? My mom got impatient and while my back was turned, tried to stand up on her own and fell out of her wheel chair! I haven’t forgiven my local Sephora for their treatment. The funny thing is, my mom loves make up and would have spent hundreds of dollars. She says, “Nothing fits right anymore, but makeup always fits!” Totally their loss. She won’t go back.

I have to watch more of your videos to learn techniques and perhaps go buy the hourglass powder you mentioned here. My biggest problem is the concealer and setting powder for under the eye. Hi Elle a great video. I am still curious about fixing spray vs powder for over 50s. I am 51 and a fellow youtuber Sue Maree P. I am fairly new to filming myself. I am struggling to know what is the best makeup for videoing. I don't want my makeup to look too flat or too shiny. I currently wear MAC studio face and body + studio fix perfecting powder. I need to purchase a new powder or finishing spray, but I am unsure which way to go. Any guidance would be appreciated. I still have lots of foundation so I don't want to swap this over just yet. Also, any advice on primers. I recently bought the Chanel Le Blanc primer, but I feel my fine lines now show up more. Thanking for in advance for your help.

      Ambient light powder is a finishing powder not a setting powder the two are not the same finishing is for soft focus to hide imperfections more so than the foundation and primer where as setting powder sets liquid and cream

  • @CorenaGaroutte
    @CorenaGaroutte 6 лет назад

    Setting powder " sets" your foundation. Finishing powder " finishes " the entire look.
    Setting = sets your foundation and concealer
    Finishing = finishes the entire look
    You don't have to use a finishing powder. Its used to add glow, illuminate and to marry your products ( blush, contour, bronzer, highlight..) together for a "more" blended flawless look.
    If your going for a Matt look you don't want to use a finishing powder.

    Hi Elle! I know this is an older video, but I have a question about it. I do not wear makeup, only skincare and sunscreen as the last step. Many sunscreens leave me shinier than I would like, and I use powder only to help cut the shine from sunscreen. Which is best suited for that purpose: setting or finishing powder? Sometimes, powders can be misleading or confusing. I have the Milani prep-set-glow powder and it's labeled as a setting powder but I use it as a finishing powder because it's very lightweight and gives the affect of the ambient light powders. I will not do a face of makeup, even my no makeup makeup where I am basically wearing concealer, bronzer, brows and mascara, without my milani powder.

      Sarah Rodriguez; that's exactly why I bought it. :) A lot of concealer placed where needed; under eyes, around nose, anywhere there is sun spots, etc... then the powder. The Milani has a nice finish with a tiny touch of glow.

    Boy at 57 I've learned a lot through you! I purchased the RCMA powder and now I think it was a mistake but, the foundation I use seems to need a setting powder. It does tend to show my "fine lines"! I did buy a small Hourglass powder but don't seem to notice anything from it... maybe bad lighting in my room. You've cleared up a few questions and now I'm unsure which way to go...lol XO's ❤️ ❤️

    I just love your videos! Would love to know your thoughts on the newer Milani powder. I think it's more of a finishing powder. I haven't had a chance to try it out. I use coty airspun and Laura mercier. Is the loose and or pressed bye bye pore a setting powder as well? I believe they just came out with a luminous one too. Would that be considered a finishing powder? Also I have oily skin but I'm 36. I feel like I need setting powder. I get so oily throughout the day. I try to be careful though under my eyes. I've got fine lines and don't want the powder to emphasize those.

      Stacie Cranford be careful with the Bye Bye luminous setting powder because it has sparkle and it isn't flattering on me it shows everything. My daughter who is 20 also tried it and it didn't even look on her young skin. It's beautiful but not after you put it on and go outside. It may look beautiful on you tho.

      Pennylynn 19 Thanks for the info. I only have the regular bye bye pore loose powder. I can't really use luminous things because I have pretty oily skin. I used to love the cc cream but then my skin changed from normal to dry to straight up oily. I do like the airbrush cc powder foundation. I love that it's a powder but still has spf.☺️

      I have the loose powder also! I have dry skin I used to have oily skin. I have to be so careful not to use to much powder because if I don't I'll defiantly look like a cake face. I haven't tried the airbrush cc powder foundation. Do you think it would work on my dry skin? I really like the IT cosmetic line. I mean of course theres a few things I don't like. Have you tried the bye bye pores pressed powder? I have a few pores but I'll do anything to make my face look as flawless as possible. It works for me since I only have a few. Now if I could find something to totally hide my wrinkles!!! LOL! I'm curious about the Milan powder as well.

      @staciericardo 7 лет назад

      Pennylynn 19 I'm not sure about the cc powder for dry skin, but I don't really know. It doesn't feel super dry, but it's not hydrating either. I wish I had gotten the pressed bye bye pores just because the loose is so messy. Lol! Let me know if you find anything that hides wrinkles!😂😂 I struggle because I need to set with powder to keep the oils at bay, but I hate the flat matte look. I love how Dewey and glowy Elle's face always looks. Not sure why my skin has changed so drastically. Sometimes it's dry and oily.

    So I'm 31 and I have rather normal complexion. Some acne scars and still get some acne on my jawbone around my lady time; but for the most part, my oily skin has gone. I've been using the Laura Mercier setting powder for years. I've learned a lot from your other videos over the last several months and I decided to try the NYX Matte Finish spray. I ordered it from Amazon and it should arrive tomorrow. I really do want to stop using powder. (I just hate the mess.) Do you think that will be a good alternative? BTW, I usually use Jane Iredale's It's Glow Time BB as my foundation.

      hey love!!! Yes I do like that setting spray. They only thing I worry about is if it has alcohol in it try not to use it everyday. That will dry out the skin xoxoox

    Very useful information. I bought the HG Ambient powder in Dim light. For me, this powder is horrible. It magnifies my pores, sits in every wrinkle and line, looks chalky and well ages me at least a decade. Big waste of money. I don't get all the hype about this product, it is terrible stuff. Although I could use a powder, at times, in my t zone I wouldn't try another powder after HG disaster. Just my experience.

      Rachel Ross -- I think these Hourglass powders have to be put on with fluffy brushes with very little product. I have struggled terribly with powders that look bad on me. What really works to set and bring my makeup together is the Mac Mineralized Skin Finish natural. I really love that stuff.

    Best video on the subject ! Many thanks for your advice. At 53, I was lost in a desert of powders which were not working for me. So gave all my HD expensive powders to my daughter (she was delighted !) & bought the BECCA Soft Light Blurring Setting Powder which I like. I would have like to try out the Hour Glass Ambient lighting ones but they are not available in shops in France so I'm waiting for an online Sephora sale as they are really expensive here. Bisous from France, Michele

    Can I used the hourglass powder without the other powder?... Lol! Yes, I'm confused. 😂😂😂 I believe what I mean is can I use hourglass without the setting powder? I'll be 39 on the 15th with normal to dry skin but I exfoliate and have a wonderful skin care routine. Not a lot of wrinkles but very few fine lines. Thanks!

    Great video, very informative. I am an mature lady who is into makeup and skincare and never too old to learn. After watching this video, I went to Sephora (right around the corner from where I work) and bought the Diffused Light. I am going to use it this morning. I felt something was missing from my makeup routine, and I believe this will solve the problem. Thank you.

    Absolutely love your videos! I have a special request from you for a video I would love to see you do. I have been in the market for an illumination under my foundation. One reason is because I have pretty dry skin and I also just love the look of radiance that looks like you are glowing from within. I have watched so many of your videos explaining great products but was wondering if you might give a more detailed video strictly on illuminating primers, moisturizers, and things that you can mix in with foundations to give that extra glow that won't disrupt your foundation. Also would love if you could give both high end and drugstore options. I respect and trust your opinion and would love to know what you think are the best products are out there for this issue. Thanks for your time :)
