    To be fully accurate, any extra buoyancy comes from the eps blank, not the resin or glass the blank is wrapped with. PU blanks accept epoxy resin as well, yet they won't float any better🤪🤙🏻

    Thanks for your time and insightful feedback. I’ve been riding lost sub drivers for a while now and thinking of trying something new. But hoping to keep the same performance on a wide range of conditions (punchy stomach to head high). The wider, thicker outline on the HE scares me a bit, so good to know that you all felt the 5’8 was too big since I was considering the 5’8. I’d more than likely trim down the 5’8 as a custom. I’m about the same height and weight as the bros.

      Hey Carlos! Yeah the stock HE wouldn’t be our pick (although better than a sharp stick in the eye). Hold up though, good, punchy, head high surf um…where you been surfing? Just asking for a friend 😂 kidding - but seriously, slide into our DMs later 😬👊🏼 hypothetically, if we were forced to pick between the two for your conditions, we think the Inferno 72 (or custom HE) would smoke most of the hipster mustaches and beaver tails in the lineup 🔥🔥🔥

    Daniel--We're almost the same size (I'm 6'3" 185 - 190 depending on the day), and based on the vid similar skill. I'm deciding between the exact same sizes you were. Planning to use this in 3 - 5ft faces. Now that you have the 31.5L 6'0 board, do you have fresh thoughts on the 6'0 vs. 6'1 sizes?

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Год назад +1

      Great question! If I were to order the board again on eps or dark arts, I would definitely go with the 31.5L 6'0" because of the extra buoyancy it has. If it was regular poly and the waves I was surfing were going to be slower 3'-5', I would upgrade to the 6'1". Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions! -Daniel

    Great surfing and great review . My big question I hope you can answer is how much has the deck pressure dented and pushed in overall in a year ? Say 10 being new what would you rate it /10 after a year+ ? Bottom looks clean no pressures but can’t see past the wax on the deck so well.
    What about deck compression compared to a 4/4+4 stock glass Merrick poly you have had for a year and ridden same amount ? I only have seen noels and kales review on DA boards and I think they both just surfed it proly a month or so for the review , not long period of time but Noel’s had pretty good pressure denting on the deck.
    I have never ridden a dark arts but have been riding 3 pyzels the last year a phantom , radius , and ghost. All stock dims between 30.5- 32 liters . All poly and glassed 4/4+4 . I am 180lbs upper intermediate and live in Indonesia , I tend to pressure dent push decks in , if I ride the same board for 60-80% of my surfs a stock glass poly Merrick or pyzel will last me 6-12 months from new til it snaps or feels soggy. My pyzels now are close to all being dead proly have a few months left and am considering getting a phantom and shadow in DA but curious for someone to finally give some real board condition data on 1+ year of surfing often on a DA board.
    Thanks ! 🤙🏼

      Great question - I'll go 7.5/10 but see below for context. Also, we're jealous that you get to surf in Indo everyday, yew! We'll have to hit you up on our next surf trip but we need to stop having more kiddos first 😂
      From a longevity standpoint, my dark arts (eps) has held up the best out of any board I've had (I've ridden a lot of Channel Islands poly 4+4 glass). Most polys I ride really start fading at a year. In comparison my DA still feels like it has a lot of juice and I'm happy with it at a year and two months and I imagine it'll hold up for a while longer. Their claims of up to 10 years seems like a stretch unless you don't surf a lot. As of today from a juice standpoint it's at a 9/10.
      For deck compression and pressure dings I'd give it a 6/10. Just because it's wrapped in carbon doesn't mean it won't receive dings or compression. For deck compression, I think after my second or third session there was compression where I have my front foot (I'm more front foot oriented). So really no difference on the compression. There are definitely less pressure dings, pretty minimal compared to a poly board but if memory serves correct this is more of the fact that it's EPS rather than DA.
      The last thing I want to point out is that I believe all dark arts boards are EPS, not poly. EPS boards ride different than poly - they are more buoyant and sit on top of the water more. If you haven't ridden an eps before I'd highly recommend testing out an eps board first before buying DA because although most people don't have a big preference, there are some folks that do not like how eps surfs.
      Hope this is helpful! Let us know if you have any follow up ?'s 🤙🏼

      Thank you so much for the thorough reply , my question was super long and so is this reply 😆 Yes hit me up for indo surf trip I’ve only been here a year and am jealous of people who have been here 5+ years , wish I arrived sooner !
      Ok so still gets compression similar to a 4/4 glassed deck . I have ridden a lot of merricks with the ultra light glass schedule which is what you mean as well right? (4/4 e glass deck and a single layer of 4oz e glass bottom) they compress and pressure really deep for me and yea after a 8-14 months it’s either dead soggy or snapped but I feel like with any 165lb or bigger human who surfs intermediate level or upper and surfs 4-6x per week that’s the average life of 4/4+4 stock glassed poly. Maybe dark arts will last ya 3-5 years and feel good that would be way worth it. I can’t see anything lasting 5-10 if you surf a lot even say like a tuf lite sandwich epoxy may feel beat after 5 years. DA having 9/10 juice feel after 14 months is pretty awesome tho that already outlast by far a stock glassed 44/4 poly.
      Also cool I understand about the 6/10 deck compression but it still feeling lively that reminds me of my varial foam boards they pressure dent like normal but at a certain point seem to stop compressing like where a poly hits 70% of it’s compression life pushed down and keeps going I’d say varial sorta stops compressing and it also feels like 7.5-8/10 still lively . I have had a couple varial foam boards and they still are in my quiver just not with me in indo but have had them outlast poly quite a lot so was kinda thinking dark arts is similar in price and longevity .
      Eps blank and epoxy resin I do like I have ridden many , Hayden shapes , FireWire fst, helium , lft , Merrick spine tek , Varial, stretch eps , proly a few others I’m forgetting but I like em all as small wave to daily driver to borderline good waves . I have a FireWire gamma in helium I do like a lot for good waves but after solid 6ft it can be a little light and squirreley and have had it chatter super hard on me on the tail on a bigger wave I thought I had broke a fin box the tail went so turbulent.
      Thanks so much for the reply your channel is great and is a lot of info and help. I think I will save up and give the inferno72 or the infernoFT a try as a daily driver . Have you ever ridden any varial foam built boards ? I think those and dark arts are the best investments for surfers to spend the extra money but have a board that keeps the fresh lively feeling for 1+ year and maybe up to 3 years which in the end is cost effective and more environmentally friendly.
      Thanks bunch bros , hope you are getting great waves back home in CA 🤙🏼

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Год назад +1

      @@greymarinelayer9248 Correct ultra light glass. I'm with you on maybe it'll last 3-5 years. If it lasts double my normal boards - 2 years instead of 1 it'll be worth it for the cost.
      Nice glad you've already ridden eps, it'll feel very similar. Don't ride much over solid 6ft but may be a little light and squirrelly but also depends on fin setup.
      I haven't ridden any of the varial foam built boards but sounds very interesting! Thanks for the kind words and let us know if you pull the trigger and what your experience is - would love to hear more feedback. Hey guys, cool review. How would you all compare the happy everyday to the inferno? Thanks

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Год назад

      Hey Carlos! The brothers put our heads together and came up with some notes for you. As with any shred sled, it comes down to what conditions the board will be in as well as how you want to surf. The HE is more of a grovel board and has a wider outline with more forgiving rails. It’s consistent, stable, and likes small to medium surf. We surfed it a bit oversized for us and in normal PU construction.
      The inferno 72 on the other hand is a different beast altogether. It has an EPS core and is carbon wrapped, intended for higher quality waves, and is more inclined to do some shredding on it’s sharper rails. It’s a better all around board and will give you a little extra zip for high performance surfing.
      Dano loves his inferno and we (Andrew and Stephen) didn’t love our HE but it could also be too big for us as well. Let us know what you land on!

    You guys ever get a chance to check out the Inferno FT? I’m contemplating a new board and the Inferno 72 and Inferno FT are two main contenders, but not a ton of opinions out there on when to choose each one.

      Hey Nathan! I haven’t tried the FT so I can’t speak to that. @Thomyesurfs has a great video of his initial thoughts on the FT. Spoiler alert, he loved it!
      Based off of the sharpeye website, the 72 appears to have more grovel ability than the FT.
      All that said, 72 is one of my top 3 fav board of all time!

      @@greenroomsurfreviews sweet thanks! Ya it’s gonna be a tough decision. I did see his video which has me stoked on the FT, then hearing you guys talk about the 72 has me stoked on that one again, and the cycle continues haha. I have a Fishbeard to cover the low end of waves, and would want my new board to hold in up to a few feet overhead with the right fins. So it’d be a Fishbeard/Inferno two board quiver. Would be looking to do in XTR10 construction probably.
      I’m curious, what are your other top three boards?

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  4 месяца назад +1

      That’s always the struggle!! Which boards do you keep?? Honestly, your setup sounds pretty solid - it just always depends on the waves at your local. The brothers did a poll, here are the results:
      Brother 3: Inferno 72, Sampler, Neckbeard/Dumpster Diver 1
      Brother 2: Rocket Wide, Flat Earth, Weirdo Ripper
      Brother 1: G-Skate, Fishbeard, Rocket Wide
      For context, we are rarely in surf over chest high - that definitely shows in the selections 😂🫠🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

  • @neon_audio
    @neon_audio Год назад

    Curious if you could talk more about longer rail vs shorter rail and what length/size to choose. I recently picked up a 2nd hand Inferno 72 PU that’s 5’9” x 18 3/4” and 26.4L. So far I’m enjoying it but I wonder if shorter and wider would be better for me. I’m 5’8” and 135 lbs, intermediate surfer. If I were to choose a stock dim, it would probably be the 5’8” x 19” 26.6L. Maybe even the 5’7” if I went DA EPS. How would a shorter board feel different?

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Год назад +1

      Great question! My number one factor when ordering a new board is making sure it's in my volume sweet spot. So if 26L is the bee knees for you, definitely stick to that. Looking at longer vs shorter comes down to personal preference. Shorter boards you're typically able to maneuver a bit more and can kick the fins free easier vs longer boards will hold better. How does the inferno you're riding feel? Does it feel good for the waves your ride? Or are you riding smaller surf and would prefer a tad bit more control?

    • @neon_audio
      @neon_audio Год назад

      @@greenroomsurfreviews Yeah 26L was already a drop down for me but I think I was ready for it as it's feeling good. As an intermediate surfer, I keep dropping volume as I progress and it's hard to know exactly where my sweet spot is. But I suppose I shouldn't drop too much too quickly. Makes sense about long vs short, confirms my understanding. I've only had the Inferno for 3 surfs and those have felt good, but I was acclimating from the looser twin I'm coming from. Very different feel on the back foot, and this is actually my first performance thruster. Now I feel ready to push the Inferno harder. I'm in New Zealand and will be in Piha this weekend, should be some good size to try some hard turns. It sounds like I should feel for the hold and release when considering going shorter.
      I'm a little confused about your smaller surf question. I would think in smaller surf (less speed) a shorter board would make it easier to maneuver and kick the fins out. And on a bigger wave, a longer board would help in staying in control with the extra speed. Or am I misunderstanding something?

    • @greenroomsurfreviews
      @greenroomsurfreviews  Год назад +1

      Congrats on getting your first performance thruster and yeah it'll feel quite different from a twin fin and takes a couple sessions to get used to.
      For smaller surf, I prefer slightly shorter boards that allow more maneuverability. They allow me to do more maneuvers in the small surf (in a sense I have more control over the board than a longer one but should've picked a different word). You're 100% correct that a longer board will hold better in bigger surf and give you better control with the extra speed.
