A year and a half later and this is still my favorite song.
I've had this album on daily play for like 2 months. Every frickin' song has drilled its way into my skull along the way. This is definitely one of the best on an absolutely fabulous album., and I enjoyed this breakdown of the writing immensely.
Curios what you thought of Lost in the Dream? That's my favourite album of all time but there recent stuff hasn't stuck with me at all
I would just wish, that outro solo would go on forever
Lost my mum around the time this album came out , this is her song ❤
This and "Change" are my two favourites off the album.
my thoughts exactly
content like this is basically drugs for me
Coming back to this having seen them live at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday. Aside from the set just being a profoundly moving and exhilarating experience, this song, coming in at the end, is such an emotionally charged gut punch. In the very best way. The whole audience, swaying, hugging and living. Thank you Adam, you help people move past things you will never know about.
No need to explain....you and your band are genius. Your music gives me hope
Adam is an absolute genius. This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. I can listen to it twenty times in a row.
The War on Drugs has become my favorite band, I hope one day they come to Chile.
My favorite band!!! Love you guys!!! Thanks for sharing the crafting of your art. 🙌
The thing I appreciate most about Adam is his honesty when talking about his craft- especially regarding lyric writing and getting 'stuck in a box'. I can relate to that.
This is the first song I heard and it drew me into all the bands music. live shows are incredible
I LOVE this band and even more now…Adam is the MAN. Can’t wait to see them in April (Leeds)
The sound is class, cant get enough of songs, wish id discovered them, then could have seen them live in uk
Absolutely love this band!
Love to hear this break down. The music making process is like catching lightening in a bottle. The spontaneity and collaboration is where the magic happens.
I could watch and listen to him do this for the whole album. I wonder what was left on the cutting room floor
Probably their next album
Anyone who can create beautiful melodies and take inspiration from unnoticed sections of various great artists is a legend himself..
Thanks for explaining how a song could come together with the ingredients of time, thoughts, sounds of musical instruments, and etc. Awesome!
Thanks Fender. I can’t get enough of Adam & The War on Drugs. Given what we are all going through at the moment, TWOD is the music I need.
Love this band, thanks so much for this video Adam and Fender!
I love discovering artists I didnt know exist and an insight into their process is awsome.
I only started listening to The War on Drugs a few months ago and now I listen to them almost every day.
Oh boy you are in for a treat
@@danieli.9252 Could you give me your top 3 songs?
@@hansgettheflammenwerfer69420 I like "Under the Pressure" from Lost In The Dream; "I Don't Live Here Anymore" from the album of the same name; "Strangest Thing" from A Deeper Understanding. I pretty much like all of their songs, though, so it's hard to choose.
@@danieli.9252 I'll report back after I give them a listen
the best emotional sounds and songs...for a long time .for me thank you so much for that..so how we can feel in the deep of all. Love you bro -TWOD
Total quality…he’s the real deal.
I love love love “Occasional Rain”!!
This is awesome... Love hearing Adam explain the process of writing this tune.
the best band ever
Nice to see TWOD's getting more attention > so well deserved & been a hellova looong time coming > still say among the most underrated of the Era
❤thanks for sharing fender 🎸
this was amazing to watch! such a great song!
Genius, love him
Ya gotta love his convo with Block - he’s a collaborator and really appreciates his band’s contributions.
"Living by the old fir tree" lmao. Adam is the best.
Gotta love Adam. Can't wait for April (concert in Milan!)
great song on an even better album.
Awesome from Japan. I love your song.
Beautiful stuff Adam. That weave is phenomenal.
Such an awesome video.
Going to play it again before bed
What kind of a mic is that in front of the amp at 0:56???
OH MAn I want to know
Really enjoyed this. Kind of reminds me of how I come to my creations. Usually, it involves a riff or series of chords that grow into a solid melody. Meanwhile I get a the grain of a lyrical idea and start flushing it out slowly but surely. When it is all done, I get an immense feeling of satisfaction.
And how about the tools we have at our disposal these days!? It is so awesome that you can capture an idea on computer or phone whenever inspiration strikes.
Just seen twod live in Leeds absolutely awesome
Unfortunately no occasional rain or change on the set list two of my favourites of the album
❤️❤️
😍😍
He writes much like I do. Word soup, and editing. Chipping away until it means something, maybe.
Glad I'm not alone. If I could only music better 🤪
Same. What has improved my music like crazy is analysing music that I love and seeing why they did certain things and then incorporating some of those ideas into my own songs.
@Fender - do you guys know what kind of mic is being used at 0:56 seconds? Cheers,
Ohma World
I dig WOD
It’s a pity this isn’t three hours long
Anyone know the tabs for Adam’s weave around the “teardrop” guitar parts? Would love to learn it
Just jam over the whole song, and then by that outro section if you’re truly feeling it that hard, you’ll stumble on that out of place note that makes the weavey part so beautiful and the riff will just come to you. Such a beautiful part, it gives me happy tears man… my brain can’t decide if it’s a happy or sad note, so it just fully overwhelms me with a reassuring yet painful juxtaposition of an emotion that I can’t control 💖
It’s honestly, one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
@@spook9375 Amen
Fine
Nice fucking job Fender! Bravo!
"(funky music)"
Somehow Adam talking about the process makes the song no less magical. Which is the opposite of what you’d think.
This is a beautiful song. Theres a genre of youtube videos that are snipbits of songs and they always call themselves the 'best bit of music ever written."
I can confidently claim that the second half of Occasional Rain (recorded version) is the definite winner. Best 3 or so minutes ever written. This is from the beginning of the lyricless bit in the middle all the way to the end.
ruclips.net/video/tkyz9OyY_ek/видео.html 2:25 to the end.
The entire song and all their work is fucking amazing. But above is fucking perfect.

Ironically, a Douglas Fir is a pine tree...
Fir tree perhaps?
1) I've never heard of these people.
2) I really like the sound of this song.
3) I can't believe that someone could grow up in the USA and not know what a Christmas Tree looks like... or "fir tree" as the original lyric called them.
Haha!!
I wish i had a guitar,they are too costy🥺😭
No they're not!
This dude's 42 and looks 55 yikes!
yea hes married to Krysten Ritter and you're not lol relax Adam granduciel is a badass pay respect guy!
