    At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I was feeling very down in the dumps recently. Was struggling just to go out to the shops. My friend had a couple of tickets to see TWOD playing in Brighton. I had seen them play many times before and loved them. I was going to cancel due to my mood but I didn’t want to let my friend down. We drove down from London and were right up at the front when they came on. I lost myself in their music for 90 plus mins and felt an elation I hadn’t felt in a long time. We left the gig and we were both buzzing. Since that day, I’m feeling so much more positive. Seeing this video and seeing the joy on the faces of the beautiful Glastonbury crowd just makes me happy to be alive. Music ❤

    I had the absolute privilege of being there and witnessing this. The War on Drugs got me through some tough times. Going through cancer treatment, not knowing if I would make it, I would listen to Red Eyes every night like a ritual singing me to sleep. It gave me such strength to go on. I vowed that when I got well, I would see them live. So I was elated to get tickets to see them play Ally Pally when I recovered, but then my husband was seriously ill in hospital so we had to cancel. This summer, 9 years on since they sang me to sleep, we happened to be working at Glastonbury and were so happy to see the line up. We watched legendary Cat Stevens and then it seemed like everyone at the festival was heading to the pyramid stage to watch Elton’s final show. Everyone except us!As we made our way in the opposite direction, against the crowd to the Other Stage we couldn’t believe our eyes. We walked right to the front of the stage. It felt like these guys were playing especially for us and as the sun set, a golden light engulfed us and they played the most euphoric, life affirming set we’ve ever experienced. Watching them felt like flying. We’d waited all these years, and here we were, happy and healthy with the greatest band on the planet transmitting us to another dimension! I love watching this back. It takes me to that moment and always brings happy tears to my eyes. I know that whatever happens in the future. No matter how difficult times might get. I will always have this beautiful memory to look back on. Thank you from the bottom of my heart The War on Drugs, you guys are truly the best.

    A brilliant band. Thanks to my 32 year old son, he's introduced me to a lot of great bands in the last little while like The War On Drugs. I'm 67 and my teen years were listening to prog rock music. It's still my favourite type of music and my son likes a lot of bands I listen to. People of my age seem to criticize the music of today. Sure, there is some pretty crap music out there, but there is a lot of great music as well.

      I feel the same. I’m a longtime drummer, and I know exactly how that breakdown and buildup feels when you are about to drop the beat. You think seeing it is phenomenal, the ecstasy of the moment is indescribable! You feel the crowd carry you and you carry the crowd. Drummers live in their own little world apart from the band. And Charlie is just magnetic and that’s the epitome of what a passionate drummer can bring to a band, especially live. You get so tap-happy it’s hard to contain yourself and stay sitting on your throne. Happy to see people celebrate a drummer so much. We never get the praise that we’re due.

      I started crying from nowhere in attendance here - first during Red Eyes, then another song in the middle and then this. I'd listened to "Lost in the Dream" a fair bit in 2014 but it was seeing them live for first time that triggered it. It is much louder and more danceable live. Never happened to me during a gig before, have come close during Mogwai & Radiohead. Epic.

    • @AnonymousSynonymous
      @AnonymousSynonymous 11 месяцев назад +3

      He keeps those 8th notes on the hats steady throughout the whole time which isn’t easy bc your hands and wrist cramp up after a minute or two. And yes, he plays in the pocket the whole song, and it’s nice to see a drummer stand up during a set. That’s Superman level performance. I feel how much ecstasy he is feeling in that buildup as a drummer of 23 years. The buildup gets me air drumming when the drums come back in to carry the song and I’m tearing up and imagining a better world at the same time. I don’t recall feeling that throughout my life.
