War on Drugs are a special band, give you nostalgia for the past, give you hope for the future, give you poetry you can believe in, uplift you when you're down. I've loved this band for 10 years now and finally got to see them live earlier this year and they we're amazing! Having listened for so many years, seeing them live was quite emotional! Love em!

Heard this song for the first time earlier this year. Was sitting in my car on break, feeling low after my divorce was finalized, and then i heard this on XM radio. Perfectly bittersweet memories and feelings hit me with each lyric. Plus, the music and Lucius background vocals just made me feel ao many things. They easily became a favorite of mine.
"I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go; We're all just walking through this darkness on our own... Beautiful. You actually inspired everone on the planet I think
First time I heard TWOD I was driving home in a summer afternoon after playing my music during a festival. Every time I hear a new song by them, I always go back to that beautiful moment which has gone, and this song seems to be composed just for this sensation... Thank you God for giving us these awesome artists and those strong emotions
“You can dance. You can make me laugh. You've got x-ray eyes. You know how to sing. You're a diplomat. You've got it all. Everybody loves you. You can charm the birds out of the sky, But I, I've got one thing. You always know just what to say And when to go, But I've got one thing. You can see in the dark, But I've got one thing: I loved you better." -Laurie Anderson
Heading into my forties after failures and triumphs at work, love, and life, this band speaks my heart. Thank you for writing beautiful music that is making me feel something and inspiring me to write music again.
So true. I normally can’t listen to anything made in the last 20 years. I usually listen to “traditional” country during my downtime but this song is phenomenal.
This is definitely the best new song I've heard in a very long time. Deep. Meaningful. Touching. This band have a hook that I can't even describe a real uniqueness.
Wow - what a fucking band! I was 16 years old when I first listened to Red Eyes back in 2013. Discovering what would simply become my all time favourite band. When Lost In The Dream was released in 2014 it became an album that defined my teenage years. Smoked my first joint and freaked myself out listening to Under the Pressure, blasting Ocean Inbetween the Waves out my first car until the speakers blew, the midnight walks listening to In Reverse and so on... I'm 24 now and I'm wondering where the fuck time has went and the people I once shared these memories with! I don't think I realise just how much I need this album. Next year I'm planning on going to NZ for a year and I already know this is the album that I'm going to listen back to in 20 years and instantly be transported back to this time in my life. Thank you Adam & co for providing the goods and using your art to express feelings people would only dream of capturing in your amazing music! For now I get to enjoy this beautiful tune and create great memories in the deserted Scottish Islands of St Kilda out in the Atlantic ocean this weekend and I'll take great pride in being the first to experience this masterpiece there!
I drove through the Highlands of Scotland the day "Strangest Thing" was released, and it will forver take me back to that incredible place. Amazing the way music can help you time travel
@@michaelmccrary2486 I've spent the better half of my adult life driving endlessly through the vast Scottish landscapes listening to their music at all times of the day. I remember cycling through Glen Nevis and put on Thinking Of A Place for the first time - sun was beating down, quite fresh outside and it was the most glorious 10 minutes of my life. Never really been able to replicate that feeling again like the first time I heard that song. This album is going to be amazing!
Hey dude, relate. I was 15 when Lost in the Dream came out and it defined my Summer too, and has accompanied me ever since as I've flailed about trying to grow up. It's an incredibly special album to me and one of the first albums I deeply resonated with that made me aware of the power of music. 23 now, and Lost in the Dream gets a spin every now and then and makes me feel quite emotional! Seen them live twice now and booked to see them on their upcoming tour- enjoying the singles from the new record! Enjoy those Scottish Isles
@@wren_stone This growing up business isn't for me either! Lost in the Dream is one of the album's that without even thinking about it - I would say has had the most impact on me. I don't listen to it as religiously as I once did but when I revisit it, I'm always picking up things I missed and it just gets more and more special each time. I'm looking forward to this new album but vouched not to listen to anymore singles until the album's out - we'll see how that pans out for me
I shared this song with my 71 year old dad, who had never heard it. He text me back "yeah, I've always loved that song!" Because of how beautiful and nostalgic it is, he assumed it was a classic from the 80's that he remembered. God, I love this band!
Great to see that an artist who is an adult and has real-life experience, and can tell a real story, create an incredible song that moves so many of us!
Best song I've heard in my head ever it's a pure masterpiece and I pretty much know whose life inspired it well done absolutely nailed it Dave Learmont
the bob dylan references !! “creature void of form” (shelter from the storm) and “like when we went to see bob dylan and danced to desolation row” !!! brilliant
Desolation row -> ‘they’re painting the passports brown (fascism/covid proof of vaccine)... the circus is in town ... the blind commissioner... they've got him in a trance (media brainwashing/pressure to conform/police a specific narrative)... And the riot squad they're restless, they need somewhere to go (ie. after the resistance) ... As Lady (the “woman” is taken to safety/shelter from the storm... while awaiting the bridegroom’s arrival)... and I (a watchman)... look out (keeping watch) tonight (=from the darkness)... (the betrayer/treacherous betrays/cheats in the cover of darkness... ) It’s quite smart, as Dylan loaded so many (symbolic) images into the two songs referenced-granduciel is sort of having his cake and eating it too... ie. he made what sounds like a cool pop song, that floats (not heavy) as it’s kind of shallow (in comparison to the weight of a Dylan masterpiece), he’s barely casting any aspersions in the process-but once you dig into Dylan’s lyrics, you know he’s actually pointing towards what is happening-the darkness that the world is in. He’s subtly playing the role of the town crier... (again by quoting a previous town crier) ‘it’s 12 o’clock and all is (not) well... get out while you can, the enemy has landed...’
LYRICS [Verse 1: Granduciel] I was lying in my bed A creature void of form Been so afraid of everything I need a chance to be reborn I never wanted anything That someone had to give I don't live here anymore I went along [with it?] [Verse 2: Granduciel] When I think about the old days, babe You're always on my mind [And now / I know] it ain't like I remember I guess my memories run wild Like when we went to see Bob Dylan We danced to "Desolation Row" But I don't live here anymore But I got no place to go [Chorus: Granduciel & Granduciel with Lucius] Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that there is to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna make it to the place I need to go We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own [Verse 3: Granduciel] Time surrounds me like an ocean My memories like waves Is life just dying in slow motion Or getting' stronger everyday? I never took our love for granted You never left me wanting more But you never recognize me babe I don't live here anymore [Chorus: Granduciel & Granduciel with Lucius] Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that I need to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that I need to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own [Outro: Lucius] We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own

This song came out when I was staying in a cabin for a few weeks because my (now ex) wife asked me to leave. I felt like it was reading my mind. I listened to it over and over again and it just spoke to me in a way that was almost unbelievable.
Gen X'er here. This is by far the best thing I've heard in 20+ years. And I mean it. Good lord what a song. To see these guys are my age and finding relevance with the kids today is inspiring. And then I saw that they sell their album on casette tape on their website. Be still my beating heart.

@@keithlarrimore I heard it the first time on our local indie radio station serving the college crowd....also this one:ruclips.net/video/yOz3VJD4L0o/видео.html
Sounds great. But to me it sounds a bit like "Animal" from Def Leppard, slowed down, for the most part... with a couple more elements thrown in... Nevertheless, anything that can bring a bit of the 80's sound and spirit back it's OK by me... 😎
@ghost mall totally agree and the 80's echoing drums are pure Baywatch Theme! Grundial has a feel for epic soundscapes that reminds me of Knoffler in the Telegraph Road era of Dire Straights. Same passion.
I got hooked on this track in January 23. I was stuck in a hotel in Angeles City Philippines with terrible food poisoning. See you September 19th ;)
Congratulations on completing your treatment!
Pain is a great song
Heard this song for the first time earlier this year. Was sitting in my car on break, feeling low after my divorce was finalized, and then i heard this on XM radio. Perfectly bittersweet memories and feelings hit me with each lyric. Plus, the music and Lucius background vocals just made me feel ao many things. They easily became a favorite of mine.
"I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go; We're all just walking through this darkness on our own...
Beautiful. You actually inspired everone on the planet I think
Lucius vocals make this song soar. It’s already beautiful but that backing vocal makes hit skyrocket
They are the only war I hope never ends! Absolutely love this

First time I heard TWOD I was driving home in a summer afternoon after playing my music during a festival. Every time I hear a new song by them, I always go back to that beautiful moment which has gone, and this song seems to be composed just for this sensation... Thank you God for giving us these awesome artists and those strong emotions
Going through the worst break up with this song on repeat. Couldn’t ask for a better one
It'll get better
this song gonna get you through it bro!!
tough times don't last. You got this!
Sending good vibes your way!
“You can dance.
You can make me laugh.
You've got x-ray eyes.
You know how to sing.
You're a diplomat.
You've got it all.
Everybody loves you.
You can charm the birds out of the sky, But I, I've got
one thing.
You always know just what to say
And when to go,
But I've got one thing.
You can see in the dark,
But I've got one thing:
I loved you better."

Heading into my forties after failures and triumphs at work, love, and life, this band speaks my heart. Thank you for writing beautiful music that is making me feel something and inspiring me to write music again.
Me too thank you for wording this better than I could 🙏
NEVER give up!!
Beautifully worded

I'm feeling very similar feelings as a 37 year old
Fuggin love the Lucius touch on this song. When people say there is no more good rock out there this is the band I use to prove them wrong.
You’re damn right!
I was just about the post the exact same thing.
Those people are lazy.
Always good rock and roll out there!!
So true. I normally can’t listen to anything made in the last 20 years. I usually listen to “traditional” country during my downtime but this song is phenomenal.
They have something special in their songs omgggg It touches my soul everytimeeee! 😍

I am a thrash-metal head, but damn this song is timeless. Really hits me
This is definitely the best new song I've heard in a very long time. Deep. Meaningful. Touching. This band have a hook that I can't even describe a real uniqueness.
You hit the nail on the head there, spot on. Totally sums up my thoughts on this song and the band. Incredible song!
What a way to wake up this morning. I can already feel the weight this record is gonna hit me with. Oct 29th cannot come soon enough, GAWD.
Every song by The War on Drugs is a masterpiece, can't wait for the new album!
Real music for real people
Makes a change to be able to listen to the lyrics absolute quality this song
How amazing to have experienced St Kilda
@@wren_stone This growing up business isn't for me either! Lost in the Dream is one of the album's that without even thinking about it - I would say has had the most impact on me. I don't listen to it as religiously as I once did but when I revisit it, I'm always picking up things I missed and it just gets more and more special each time.
I'm looking forward to this new album but vouched not to listen to anymore singles until the album's out - we'll see how that pans out for me
0:19 when the drums kick in. Love it.
Really love the vibe of this song. Sounds like an 80s song and thats a big compliment.
I shared this song with my 71 year old dad, who had never heard it. He text me back "yeah, I've always loved that song!" Because of how beautiful and nostalgic it is, he assumed it was a classic from the 80's that he remembered. God, I love this band!
I associate this with Don Henley’s Boys of Summer. Both equally great.
Great to see that an artist who is an adult and has real-life experience, and can tell a real story, create an incredible song that moves so many of us!
Yes! You are right 👍🏻

Best song I've heard in my head ever it's a pure masterpiece and I pretty much know whose life inspired it well done absolutely nailed it Dave Learmont
the bob dylan references !! “creature void of form” (shelter from the storm) and “like when we went to see bob dylan and danced to desolation row” !!! brilliant
First time I listened, I was like "Wait a second, that's a Dylan lyrics"
@@bhawx10 Me too haha...Just listening to it first time now and came to comments to see if anyone else noticed
(the betrayer/treacherous betrays/cheats in the cover of darkness... )
It’s quite smart, as Dylan loaded so many (symbolic) images into the two songs referenced-granduciel is sort of having his cake and eating it too... ie. he made what sounds like a cool pop song, that floats (not heavy) as it’s kind of shallow (in comparison to the weight of a Dylan masterpiece), he’s barely casting any aspersions in the process-but once you dig into Dylan’s lyrics, you know he’s actually pointing towards what is happening-the darkness that the world is in. He’s subtly playing the role of the town crier... (again by quoting a previous town crier) ‘it’s 12 o’clock and all is (not) well... get out while you can, the enemy has landed...’
Pound for pound best band in the world. Absolutely majestic. Can't wait to see them in Edinburgh, Scotland next year.
Oh my god.Tears pouring down my face. What a beautiful song

LYRICS
[Verse 1: Granduciel]
I was lying in my bed
A creature void of form
Been so afraid of everything
I need a chance to be reborn
I never wanted anything
That someone had to give
I don't live here anymore
I went along [with it?]
[Verse 2: Granduciel]
When I think about the old days, babe
You're always on my mind
[And now / I know] it ain't like I remember
I guess my memories run wild
Like when we went to see Bob Dylan
We danced to "Desolation Row"
But I don't live here anymore
But I got no place to go
[Chorus: Granduciel & Granduciel with Lucius]
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that there is to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna make it to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
[Verse 3: Granduciel]
Time surrounds me like an ocean
My memories like waves
Is life just dying in slow motion
Or getting' stronger everyday?
I never took our love for granted
You never left me wanting more
But you never recognize me babe
I don't live here anymore
[Chorus: Granduciel & Granduciel with Lucius]
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
[Outro: Lucius]
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own
We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own

The addition of Lucius is superb. It adds the acidulous note to the song at the right place.
Excellent! Absolutely excellent! And the Lucius background at 2:00 adds so much. The engineering and mixing are simply perfect!
Granduciel, you absolute genius
This song so totally moves me. I've had it on repeat pretty much all afternoon. The musicianship, the vocals, Lucius adds such dimension to this song. Thanks god there are still musicians out there making this kind of music. Bravo. well done!
This song came out when I was staying in a cabin for a few weeks because my (now ex) wife asked me to leave. I felt like it was reading my mind. I listened to it over and over again and it just spoke to me in a way that was almost unbelievable.

@ghost mall totally agree and the 80's echoing drums are pure Baywatch Theme! Grundial has a feel for epic soundscapes that reminds me of Knoffler in the Telegraph Road era of Dire Straights. Same passion.
Dire Straits, Tom Petty, Springsteen, The Cure, Pink Floyd...they have all the right influences. This one has a Def Leppard/Whitesnake touch also.
@ghost mall yeah the guitar lick brings to mind some 80's hard/glam ballads
I got hooked on this track in January 23. I was stuck in a hotel in Angeles City Philippines with terrible food poisoning.
