I was fortunate enough to see Underworld play the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall twice - once in April 2017 and the next time in June 2019. I'd say they were two of my greatest concert experiences of all time - just mind meltingly good. The visuals, the laser lights and the people = A++ experience. I think Underworld are gods of dance and electronic music. They are true masters of these genres. Its shocking how more people don't know about them - especially people my age (I'm 26 now). They are criminally underrated.
I feel that with each show that they have an amazing ability to create an escapist atmosphere. You feel locked into being in the moment, dancing to the groove of songs like Two Months Off, Dark & Long (Dark Train) and Jumbo. I love watching Karl dancing while Rick coordinates the music.
It was the most incredible feeling watching them close each show with Born Slippy. There was 10 minutes of my life at each show when I forgot about all the other shit happening in my life and embraced being in the moment with 2,000 other people in the room. It was incredibly special.
I've seen many incredible artists and bands play in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall including Bon Iver, Air, Fleet Foxes, The Stone Roses, Hot Chip, Death Cab For Cutie and Brian Wilson. They are all amazing in their own right. Underworld would take the gold medal though for their sheer uniqueness and transcending performances.
