I know the exact flavor doesn't lineup, but i feel like a John Constantine-esque Clockwork soul just sounds amazing
You can make that work. I don’t know much about Constantine, but it seems like when he dose use his magics, he uses them to pull order out of chaos. On like a metaphysical level.
The best moment to use that 5d8 from Bastion of Law is when you take a big hit whilst concentrating on something important. When hit with 50 damage, reducing an average of 22 damage on a concentration save can turn a DC 25 save into a manageable 14.
That’s one of the best circumstances. It betters your chance of keeping up big spells which makes a big difference in a bunch of different ways. Debilitating enemies map control, Buffs and the such.
I really enjoyed playing this one in a level 20 one shot it felt really powerful and fun
Plus a sorcerer is always fun. It’s rare to get to be level 20. It’s one of those sub classes that gets a lot of praise and I think it’s for good reason.
Clockwork hits the perfect machine magic feel.
A single level in Barbarian could use all these features while Raging. And also slap on some medium armor. Two levels for Reckless Attack + Clockwork Trance of Order, will be a one-sided Advantage and a minimum of 10 on a roll.
If you do lv 20, 6 Barbarian and 14 Sorcerer, it'll work out too. Like Ancestral Guardian spirit shield + bastion of law. Decreasing damage 2d6 and possible 1-5d8.
It’s interesting to mix the barbarian with the sorcerer. It’s a very unique feel to them that way.
@@TheSinisterheroes I've been designing a third-caster Barbarian homebrew. I like Barbarians and I like Magic. It's difficult but not impossible to have both.
You can definitely off set them when you run out of rages dip into your caster abilities, or vice versa with spell slots.
Clockwork souls also allows for a bunch of phenomenal utility spells that can be cast before combat like AoA or Aid. Could make you be just an absurd level of tanky, and still, if the time is right, drop rage for a clutch Greater Restoration or Wall of Force.
I love sorcerers! I’ve been wanting to play this subclass for a while. I like the idea of mixing this with order domain cleric.
It’s so strange how lately I have read a bunch of comments where people are excited to build multiclasses with different spell casting abilities.
@@TheSinisterheroes Multiclassing is great for adding versatility and flavor to your character. My group does it all the time. I certainly have a gloom stalker/assassin and a death cleric/divine soul in my game that I’m running. I rarely multiclass myself but it’s fun to think of different combinations.
How is your cleric sorcerer dealing with the ability score spell casting?
@@TheSinisterheroes They have a 16 wisdom and 18 charisma. So they are doing well spell casting wise. They are also level 9 so it’s easier to get stats up. They didn’t pick any cleric spells that are affected by their wisdom.
Oh ok that’s pretty smart on there part
The 5d8 ward saved the life of Flynn
I actually really like this subclass I have had a warforge clockwork soul sorcerer floating in my head for a long time now
That’s very cool considering the way warforged are created, it makes a solid connection in my mind. You could lean into a belief that order is the purpose. That sounds like fun.
Action Surge Clocklock - 2 fighter (Action Surge Casting) 1 Warlock (Eldritch Blast - duh!). Great AC, insane damage reduction, cast 9th level spells, and can cast two leveld spells in one round.
Also
Mystical Monk - 8 Clockwork/8 Kensei Monk/4 Bladesinger = Super High AC plus insane damage reduction - Aid + Armor of Agathys + Bastion of Law 5d8 Damage reduction stack. And this build still bascially fights like a Monk but with great Gishy spell selections.
How do you balance the mystical monk stat wise? Thats a 13 base for int 13 for wisdom 13for dex and cha of 13 to multiclass in and out of the three classes.
@TheSinisterheroes I start with basic Human with a +1 in all stats and let's assume Standard Array.
Begining Stats:
Str 9
Con 11
Dex 16
Wiz 15
Int 14
Chr 13
Ending Stats:
Str 9
Dex 20
Con 12
Wis 20
Int 14 (prioritize getting the Headband of Intellect for that additional +2 AC)
Chr 13
For sorcerer spell selection just grab all the buff spells/dispel/counterspell along with Booming Blade. For Wizard it is more utility and perhaps a few 1st/2nd level DC spells.
Max AC 31 without magical items. Headband of Int brings that to 33. Add a Bracer of Unarmed Defense 35. Ring of Protection...you get the idea.
When I planned this build, I figured Improved Invisibility would be my go-to spell, and it still is in many situations, but I honestly like Haste more on this Monk character in most situations. I take two of the following sequence of actions depending on whether I need to hold off a horde/one big bad mofo or just start going to town:
Defensive - Take the Dodge Action to gain disadvantage and then strike with your Hasted Action to trigger the BA Unarmed Strike. Now, your high AC is at a disadvantage to hit.
Offensive - Booming Blade + Hasted Weapon sword attack + BA Unarmed Strike.
Later, of course, we can add in Flurry of Blows but I level her with one Monk and go caster all the way till both classes are finished before finishing out with Monk.
How do you get to 31 ac?
@@TheSinisterheroes By level 20:
Monk AC 20 + Kensei Defense 2 + Haste 2 + Bladesong 2 (Int Bonus) + Shield Spell 5.
20 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 5 = 31 Max possible AC for this build without magical items.
Take the Dodge Action and fight with your Hasted Attack and Bonus Attack if you really don't want your DM to be able to hit you with an attack. Hard to crit twice in one disadvantaged strike.
WHAT???
taking 3 level of warlock to regain 4 sorcery point per short rest is STUPID. you are loosing 3 spellcaster level... when the 17th level sorcerer start casting wish to get a free simulacrum of himself, you are still casting 6th level spell like a 14th level sorcerer. contrary to taking some bard wizard and cleric level where you at least get your 9th level slot, but need to upcast your 6th level spell, you are stuck with 6th level slot without upcasting options.
The warlock dip on sorcerer is extremely bad and so not worth it
and WTF using the damage absorption 1d8 at a time?
This feature is good for 1 thing, to protect your concentration spell. at those level 1d8 damage is negligible. The monster deals 40 damage you take 4.5 damage out.... doesn't matter.
But if you are receiving 40 damage, the DC for your concentration is 20. If you use your d8 to reduce that damage you could bring it down to an easier saving throw. making it much more likely to succeed on your concentration check.
10:30 - LOL, "you can't miss on attack roll" you make me laugh so hard here lol... Please search in all the official DnD5e book, and find me a spell using an attack roll, that is worth casting by most sorcerer (no special niche build)
