Hey AJ, love the new style! Storytelling fits you like a glove. You never cease to amazing me, always something new with you AJ. You are definitely 1 in billion, nobody does what you do, Nobody! I heard you say the Brass Dragons has magic abilities (but there not listed), so I copy/paste what they got in AD&D days. A brass dragon casts its spells and uses its magical abilities at 6th level, plus its combat modifier. At birth, brass dragons can speak with animals freely, and are immune to fire and heat. As they age, they gain the following additional powers: Young: create or destroy water three times a day. Juvenile: dust devil once a day. Adult: suggestion once a day. Mature adult: control temperature three times a day in a 10’ radius per age level. Old: control winds once a day. Great wyrm: Summon djinni once a week. The dragon usually asks the djinni to preform some service. Although the djinni serves willingly, the dragon will order it into combat only in extreme circumstances, as the dragon would be dismayed and embarrassed if the djinni were killed. Thanks for everything AJ, you have a Happy New Year!
That's why I classify Brass Dragons in my campaign worlds (Loom of Magus) as being air-related (elementally speaking) that borders on both water and near lighning.
i remember in a game i played my party captured a cultist and when we were interrogating him...when he dididnt give us the info we needed...just to be a dick i took him to the lair of an anciant brass dragon, and after immobilizing him i told the dragon the cultist was a prisoner that wanted to hear the dragons life story.
Been using Avowed Pickett as an NPC companion for my players since they stopped by Candlekeep, and he has become one of their favorite NPC, so knowing he has a Great Uncle Traz is just as valuable to my campaign as the Brass Dragon Lore itself. Awesome.
There's one notable brass dragon that comes to mind when it comes to published D&D adventures. (minor spoilers ahead) It's one of the five ancient metallic dragons you have to negotiate with in _The Rise of Tiamat_ again. Ileuthra is neutral in outlook initially, and the only one to lack any particular beef with a PC race, and he is truly undecided about whether the metallic dragons should act alone or alongside the factions of the Sword Coast, is truly open to all options, and even sees the potential for good and evil in all races. The only concession he specifically wants is that the PCs hand over the Dragon Masks, powerful magical items that the Cult of the Dragon is using to bring Tiamat to Toril, to the metallic dragons once they've been secured, as they are dangerous items. However, Ileuthra also has a reputation beyond the tabletop games - he is a planes-hopper, traveling from realm to realm as he pleases. He is also a master of chess, to the point that no mortal could give him a decent challenge. He eventually played a game of chess against Oghma, the Faerunian god of knowledge...and won not just once, but THREE TIMES IN A ROW...and he handed the god his ass on a silver platter each time as well. As a result, the god allowed the dragon to become a minor servant of his for a time.
When I think of Brass Dragons I think socialite. I can see a Brass Dragon running an Oasis gambling casino of the most lavish proportions. Acting as a hub for good times and good drink, which often leads to loose lips and juicy tips. Since they can freely shapeshift, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the host to act in multiple roles. Sometimes as a performer, sometimes as a Boss and sometimes as floor staff. They might even allow sales of more....sensitive treasures and delicacies behind closed doors (as long as the dragon is privy to those involved for the sake of leverage).
It took me a minute, but if it's your great great great great uncle...that means the dragon would either need to have at least one humanoid sibling, or else it'd just be your great great great grandfather. Or else I've misunderstood how genealogy works. Edit: it took me a few more minutes, but I realized I had in fact misunderstood. Grandpa's sister can just marry a dragon.
YES!! Dragons are one of the quintessential beings and themes of DnD. They all have some very terrifying features and environments to use from. My favorite is the shadow dragon.
Brass Dragons are the BEST dragons, IMHO! It would be so much fun just to talk with one and hear all their stories. Thank you for doing them great justice!
They share the same sort of graceful, undulating flight as the Gold Dragon, also quite functional under water, and they tuck back against the body when burrowing through the ground.
A young friend wanted to negotiate with the ruler , of a plane consisting entirely of dragons, wearing dragon scale armour , I pointed out wearing the skins of dead cousins might be awkward in fact probably a death sentence
Aj,as a brass dragon fanatic,is there a way in your wisdom to play a brass dragon wyrmling in an adveturing party? I always loved them, even as a wee little lad,i often settle for brass dragon born or a dragon sorcerer with brass origin. But i crave to play as a true brass wyrmling,is it possible? Can you provide me with any leads? Ill be willing to pay for the honor!
12:05 I really hope those bits around the exit point of the breath attack is just debris and splinters from the wood as opposed to charred people. Then again, knowing dragons, it's probably a mix of both.
I think that, lore wise, the number of half-brass dragons, brass dragon sorcerers, and brass dragonborn would be the highest. Easy way to get to have lots of conversations with a humanoid is to become its lover. Plus you get an offspring/descendent to chat up and give advice to in its very short life. XD
I ran a Brass Dragon as my party's Patron based on some of your original metallic dragon videos. It was a great hit. The players had no idea until the end. They just thought the name of the bar he ran (The Brass Dragon's Inn) was a cool name. RIP Ganlon.
I've seen at the news that 2022 came early to New Zealand. If that's accurate then HAPPY NEW YEAR, HOPE NOTHING TRAGIC HAPPENS AND ONLY PROSPERITY MEY YOU HAVE! 2:39-3:02 That's still no excuse for murder! Even if their bastards.
This might sound cringey, but your videos have helped me so much dealing with some stress and helping to sleep over the last few years So thanks man keep it up
I remember in a Video that stated that the reason that Brass Dragons at least in the old lore was that they were narcissists even by draconic standards and could not bear the idea of any being not hearing their "heavenly" voice.
Metallic dragons are so great. They're far less likely to kill you than their chromatic cousins even if you piss them off. The personalities of the brass and copper dragons can make for some funny, memorable hijinks. Also, your character's brass dragon uncle loves goat curry? Sounds like a total bro to me.
You know AJ, this in universe character of yours gives me an idea for a backstory for my version of the Baldur’s Gate 3 protagonist. Octavia Coronet- or Tav to her friends- is a bard, scholar, and playwright from Baldur’s Gate. Among the more notable things about her is the fact that she is the descent of a copper dragon- Vatriolus. While she wasn’t afforded the powers of a sorcerer, her draconic heritage did grant her a first rate education in magic and history by her “grandpa” Vatriolus. Along with her draconic tutorship, she also studied at the Fochlucan College in Silverymoon for many years. Since graduating, she’s been working in Baldur’s Gate as a playwright, having written and produced two plays thus far to a fairly war critical reception, however, she’s gotten a bad case of writers block. Thus, she’s decided to journey a bit to get some inspiration. Unfortunately, this was around the time the mindflayer nautiloid snatched her up. Even more unfortunate is the fact that her grandpa is going to be napping for the next two years. Any thoughts?
My goodness, I like how you portray each dragon. I have wanted to use each one I have listened to you talk about in my campaign. I just can’t choose, you make them all sound amazing!
I never trust any Dragon no matter how "good" they claim to be. Greed, no matter how well controlled, is NEVER a virtue. Also I hate to say this master sage but your Uncle has probably eaten more people than any modern day Giant has. My dragon bias aside Thanks for the Lesson!
1. He never claimed greed to be a virtue. 2. Nobody is perfect and we all have flows, whether they by great or small, it's the overall character that matters.
Aj if you got a dragon uncle ask him to make you a half dragon so yo can go on writing cool books for him for a few more centuries... i would definently take the oportunity and turn a true dragon stealing the ritual from drow dragons 😊. Cool uncle btw.

The background and history of Brass Dragon makes them more social. Had them often played as a source of new adventures by either the party or Brass Dragon offers a piece of information the other wants. If I had to relate to one creature or race in DND it would be brass dragons. Anyone who can tell me something I didn't know is now my friend. The only thing I and a brass Dragon don't have in common is the fact that I love cold. The colder the better.
The revamps of these videos present the dragons in a very different and (imo) more interesting way. Especially their general behaviors and personality. I have a brass dragon archmage of transmutatiom in my campaign who is also a cute little halfling lady with a midwestern accent. This video amazing! Please can you do the other dragons in this style? I've watched all your dragon videos btw and I feel that this new style would give the other chromatic and metallic dragons more life! Thanks again.
They love to summon creatures to simply have a conversation? Perhaps an ancient wyrm would summon a greater devil to have a lengthy philosophical debate over a game of chess? The devil would of course remain in the summoning circle, no need for unnecessary risks.
This least metal dragon has been now re-granted its former leverage that once made them great that was stolen via Steel Dragons. Nice. They were expanded upon and given proper respect as a "least" metal dragon and not going White Dragon in the way the metal dragons did it as the chromatic ones did,

Brass Dragons are the BEST dragons, IMHO! It would be so much fun just to talk with one and hear all their stories. Thank you for doing them great justice!
Not that I'm familiar with any of the dragon types in this setting, but the wings on a brass have always struck me as.... distinctive. Unusual
