Hey everyone: It has come to my attention (yes, very late) that people are concerned that I didn't use the mega death, super powerful, galactic assassin 10MM ammo. I was trying to be fair. So I used the same brand and, to the extent I could, similar bullet weights. If I had used Buffalo Bore 10MM I would have had to use Buffalo bore .45 This comparison reflects the types of ammo that are typically at local stores.

I only had my 22 pistol with me and had to scare it off twice in the night. I doubt that I'll ever have to use my 45 but it helps me sleep at night.

I love it! I almost did the same. I converted my 45 auto to shoot 45 super as well. To basically has the same muzzle energy as it's 10 mm. But the ammo is expensive and only three companies sell it. It's a give-and-take though versus buying a 10 mm as well which I almost did..... The ammo is a lot cheaper and more available.

I find it interesting that one year after the great ammopocalypse, that I was able to purchase a box of .45acp for the same price mentioned in this video from 2017. While 9mm is still stupid, .45 prices have not been effected as much, meaning it was always an expensive round to shoot frequently. Paul is DaMan.
9mm in my area is 14.99 a box. 10mm in my area is 32.99. 45 auto in my area is 34.99. its all expensive including 28.99 a box for 40 s&w. i sold my 40 for cash to get 10mm. because its a 4 dollar difference between the two boxes

Hey man, Was wondering how your experience was doing autopsies? It's a path that I've been pondering and I don't meet people who have done them very often
@@timarmesto2685 @Tim Armesto Not a whole lot of pathologists do forensics full time, as court and depositions are a pain in the ass and it doesn't pay well relative to other specialties. Some/many do them on the side and are contracted by local/state law enforcement agencies for the service. It is also not for those with a strong olfactory sense, as bodies found "in the wild" are always in varying states of decomposition (as opposed to hospital autopsies). The worst one I ever did was a teenager who died of self-immolation. He smelled like barbeque. Autopsies can take from 17 minutes to 2.5 hours in my experience and are somewhat physically demanding. A board certified forensic pathologist in the US requires 4 years of college pre-med, 4 years of medical school and 3-4 years of pathology residency. A forensic pathology fellowship is an additional year.
Simple, we're not always attracted to accurate, reliable good data. "You do you". Paul is doing what he enjoys most, Matt with Demolition ranch is doing what he enjoys. By the nature we'll be attracted more as a whole to what Matt does, and he's a good person to show someone that you're converting to be pro 2A after you've taken them to the range and gotten them somewhat acclimated to get them hyped. Paul is the person you show them when they are invested in the 2A and want to continue to make good investments... Not the world's best example, but yeah it's what my brain pulled together with minimal effort while I sit here in the dark, wondering how I live in a house with 2 wine bottles and no wine opener....
Because Paul puts nearly all his effort into making the best possible content and doesn't spend time trying to promote his RUclips channel. It's part of his charm. The subs will come. I bet Paul's engagement metrics are off the charts. I'd love to see them.
Theres a war on science and factual data with evidence. People just want to hear things that favor with thier beliefs and interest now istead of listening to people like this that take the time and have the experience and knowledge to set forth real information. Its sad
You know Mr. Harrell I really don't know which I enjoy more; your extensive knowledge and training or your since of humor. I always have a good chuckle watching you videos. Thanks for being you and sharing.
I’ll just stick to my .45 ball ammo after that presentation. Plus if they try to prosecute me they will say I was just old and using a 100 plus year old 45. Win win! Your a genius Paul!
This weeks' shotgun news is exclusively about 10mm. I remember 20 years ago I was the only person in handgun competition that shot a 10mm, everybody said it was an obsolete caliber. Glad to see it making a comeback.
@@atc_av8er The Glock can also handle the full power 10mm. I was shooting full power ammo in my colt delta elite, and people warned me about the potential for the frame or slide to crack, even though I was running a 25 lb Wolf recoil spring with a shock buffer and a full length tungsten guide rod. So I bought the G20 to shoot full power ammo in competition.
Hello Paul, I'm planning on purchasing a 1911 in 10mm for my collection. Thank you for posting this video about the 10mm, your presentations are on point with superb narration. I appreciate your fire arms experience and research.
Every time Paul says "now for the boring part where I talk..." is always super interesting. I loved the Miami Dade video I think it's the most interesting video I've ever seen on RUclips. I would love for you to talk more about shootings
Brenden Leier Completely agree and have stated it more than once. I love the meat targets but appreciate his commentary more than anything. I would also thoroughly enjoy hearing Paul break down more famous shootings.
One of the best analyses I have seen. Great balance between shooting and argumentation on the subject. Congratulations and greetings from Poland to the author.
Employee at JoAnn Fabric: "Here comes that crazy guy to buy up all of our fleece fabric." Paul Harrell: "Hi. I'd like to purchase those 12 rolls of fleece fabric."
That’s a true statement. I broke my sternum in a wreck recently and when the sternum breaks all you are worried about is trying not to pass out due to the really tiny breathes you are taking now.
Great video. My wife has a Glock 30 and I have an XDm 10mm and I've shot both and have come to the same conclusion you have. Both are great and capable rounds. The 'flip' and recoil is more on the XDm 10mm than the Glock 30. This difference has made the XDm not fun to shoot for my wife. Surprisingly she is much more comfortable with the 230gr .45 hollow points than she is with the 180 hollow points in the 10mm. Ammo availability is a concern but I've actually found here in NH that less people own 10mm pistols and therefore 10mm is easier to purchase than the .45. You are absolutely correct on the price difference as I'm paying over a dollar a round on the 10mm ammo where the .45 can be purchased, when found, for around .75 per round. It all comes down to what you are comfortable with in the end. I love the XDm 10mm and she loves the Glock 30 .45 ACP. Either way, if anyone breaks into our house, it will be a really bad day for them.
Stumbled upon your video while doing some research on these two calibers and I’m glad I did. Fantastic job on the video, presentation and very educational. Subscribed to the channel. Thanks!
I just discovered his channel and subscribed last night. I find myself sometimes fast-forwarding through some parts of the shooting so that I can get to the "boring" part. So, if you are weird, you're not the only one.
Thing I always worry about is missing that first shot. Those mega death rounds (to borrow Paul's terminology) make it slow to recover and reacquire the target. And bears move fast.
Thank you for being so well-spoken and professional, believe it or not it's hard to find it was a great and helpful video keep up the great work thank you very much
"This is the boring part of the presentation where i talk." That's my favorite part, Honestly I could listen to you talk about gun history and statistics all day long.
As if your content wasn't some of the best on RUclips, your audience is top shelf. Very rarely seen on any other gun channel. This must be where the adults go to comment.
I guess perhaps now I am obliged to call you a name that attempts to undermine your opinion without presenting any concrete facts. Um. Sorry. I just couldn't think of anything. The troll is not strong with me. I agree. I love the videos and the discussions here. Thank you for your time and effort spend making these.
That’s why FPS Russia (despite having been the most popular RUclips gun channel at the time) was never very interesting to me because I think he was pandering to the masses instead of gun enthusiasts, “the secular crowd” if you will.
I wish he would also have included 10mm ball in the test, but i think it would have done pretty much the same as .45 ball, except maybe go through a bit more fleece.
If people would stop voting in these lunatic Anti-American, Anti-Constitution dems like obama and biden (the same people essentially) then we wouldn't have to worry about such things Ever. Granted, Trump wasn't exactly 100% friendly to the Constitution, need I mention the bump stock ban but... at least he's never Theatening to take anything away, he never threatened anyone's jobs or tried to Force anything. Never used stupid rhetoric blaming police for things to try to subliminally start a war on cops or say "No Amendment is absolute"... That ALONE should have biden forcefully removed from office. How do you take an oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution and the people then subliminally threaten it like that and it's all okay? People voted for Anti-freedom for some odd reason so of course the actual Patriots for the country are going to be stocking up. Only in a diseased mind would someone actually believe that a member of the establishment (AND a lifelong politician) would be For Americans and For the Constitution..... I thought this country was dumb when obama got voted in for a second term, America literally said hold my beer.

You're a great "enlightener" on the subject of guns, no doubt about it... BUT where I really seem to be fascinated by you and your video's is how you speak. I would find it hard to believe that you haven't taken years of speech classes and spoken to tens of thousands of others in your time. You speak in a way that makes listening to what you say as enjoyable as listening to an old song that doesn't spoil even when heard on repeat. The way you put emphasis on certain words and surround them in a soft-spoken way, it just makes me not able to get past how much I can find enjoyment in your presentation through & through. Thank you for the quality of your work.
My Mexican ninja carries 9mm FMJ and just shoots for the pelvis. I do the same with 32acp. Ninja says he doesn't know why people waste money on all those fancy bullets.
New Jersey laws are a bit strict but no ware near as bad as California or anything, in general its really ok. I really dont see any problem with FMJ for protection, a piece of steel traveling Mach 1 and hitting your heart or lungs is going to do the job im sure.
well, outside of the big cities in CA you can actually get a permission slip from massa validating your rights. NJ, not so much. Da mafia don like da chumblones wit no gunz. Getz in da way of da protekshun raketz. FMJ was a problem back in the day for cops I've read b/c the bullet would tend to slip around, poke through a body and minimize blood loss in a number of cases. Good for breaking bones though, apparently, which is one reason I carry them in my P-32.
Will be interesting Paul, but good luck ever getting a legal concealed carry permit in NJ that state sucks. I left there over 10 years ago and never looked back.
I've probably watched 10,000 youtube videos on each popular gun subject, such as "10mm vs. .45 ACP". Yet I continue to watch. I need a secondary hobby.
I've yet to see any other cartridge comparisons that come even within a mile of Paul's comparisons. All other ones I've seen use different barrel length, different ammo, different everything that matters, resulting in some extremely un scientific data. Not to mention the lack of realistic tests such as the meat target. Paul's quality can't be beat.
Paul Harrell and GunBlue490 are the only true Gun experts on YT due to their vast field experience and armory knowledge. We should be grateful for such excellent teachers and give what support we could.
Ha! Dropped everything within one second of the vid notification. Starting to become one of my favorite channels, and I feel one of the most educational.
He really does make some great videos. Funny thing is the first time I saw one of his videos I thought someone had taken a 20-30 year old vhs tape and converted it to digital format then posted it.
Was considering 10mm for hiking use, but I think 45 ACP in a proper loading will be similar enough. Note: monetization was back in action when I watched, which was good to see! Too bad to hear the story about the guy that spent 3 years in jail for self-defense ...
I had expected this might be one of the hundreds of videos of overly indulgent guys with point n shoots that add too much chit chat and personal conjecture to a basic traditionalist conclusion. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find an eloquent, well paced, and thoughtful analysis of the main points to consider when actually buying any firearm and the potential legal ramifications that go along with carrying. I think every person that has seen this video left with a lot of new information that is broken down and carefully explained in a very interesting way. Mr. Harrell definitely has the pleasant approach to being a great instructor or teacher. I find it far easier to watch these videos than follow anything by Nutnfancy for example.
he's the opposite of Nutnfancy. both are thorough but nutnfancy is just verbal smorgasbord of self praising, talking about irrelevant topics, showing how good he thinks he shoots and gives completely biased reviews based on random things. he'll like something and then suddenly he'll nitpick on a few random things and give it a bad rating and vice versa. following his advice on gear, guns and ammo will put you on a long road of hurt
Thank you sir, for this concise study and comparison of these two calibers. I myself, have a Taurus G2 chambered in .45 and I am very pleased by its performance. You have the most professional and informative gun videos that I've seen to date on firearms. Thanks for doing these and I look forward to your next one!
A lot of folks will blab on forever and then finally say "long story short." I love Paul because he actually knows how to make a long story short. Also, I really appreciate your fair way of explaining the problems with the particular case study you outline. Admitting your lack of information, but also being sure not to vilify anyone involved, including the prosecutors or jury, while acknowledging that bias is a real thing.
I wish I had that way of thinking ten years ago .dumbass wrote a statement on myself. I always thaight the police were here to help. I found out the hard way, they most certainly are not your friends.
@@danielaramburo7648 Exactly correct. I was in fear for my life. Then like the pot brothers on Instagram tell you to do...STFU. Also, doesn't hurt to live in pro-gun state and only vacation where the carry license is reciprocal.
Thank you Paul! I know I can always count on your unbiased, no bullshit evaluations of different firearms. Your videos are my go-to when considering whether I want to buy a firearm or not.
As usual Paul, another great informative video, very helpful especially since I and a few friends are going to be motorcycle touring and camping in backcountry areas and concerned about protection from large dangerous animals, I am now more comfortable with my .45 with a mix of hp and ball ammo in my .45.
The thing folks fail to mention is that most people discount the fact that others tend to leave their heavier guns behind sometimes because they're cumbersome. I've almost done it a few times. 1911s are a key example. When you have one, GREAT! But when you don't because you're wearing gym shorts in 200°F heat, well then BAMM point made. Now if was actually required to use one, OF COURSE I would want the biggest bullet available (I train with 9mm, .40, and .45). I'm starting to think of purchasing a 357SIG barrel for my truck (anti vehicle), and carrying a 9mm drop in barrel in a Glock 27 (limited to 10 rd magazines in California so use 9mm in the .40 mags, shhhh!)
This guy is the Alton Brown of ballistics testing, and I mean that as a compliment. Very knowledgeable, makes his presentations interesting, and the sly dry humor, and tone and cadence of his voice is dead on Alton Brown
Great video here. I really appreciate both the pluses and the minus's of both of these calibers. Me, I currently own a 1911 chambered in .45ACP and to be honest I am very happy with it and the way it shoots. I've considered purchasing a 10mm but I just didn't have the extra funds to make it happen. I think after watching this video then I'll just stick to my trusty .45.

This weeks' shotgun news is exclusively about 10mm. I remember 20 years ago I was the only person in handgun competition that shot a 10mm, everybody said it was an obsolete caliber. Glad to see it making a comeback.
It's about the most sought after round here in Alaska, with the right ammo it can take down the massive brown bears here.
I LOVE my Glock 20. Bought it for the sole purpose of protection from furry friends in the backcountry.
@@atc_av8er The Glock can also handle the full power 10mm.

Thank you for the quality of your work.
During some of the recent ammo shortages I was able to find 10mm a lot easier than 45acp. Occasionally it pays off to have an odd ball caliber.
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. I have a friend who couldn’t find .357 magnum ammo for an entire year.
I love love how you take all sides and perspective thank you!!!

Good Morning from New Jersey Paul! High Quality content as always. Thanks for all your hard work and your Service to this Country!
Thanks. i hear in NJ you're only allowed FMJ ammo. I'm working on a video on FMJ for concealed carry.
I love the way you perform comparison tests on your videos.. nice work..

I've probably watched 10,000 youtube videos on each popular gun subject, such as
"10mm vs.

Was considering 10mm for hiking use, but I think 45 ACP in a proper loading will be similar enough. Note: monetization was back in action when I watched, which was good to see! Too bad to hear the story about the guy that spent 3 years in jail for self-defense ...
Paul is the New Retro Wave of RUclips gunner channels. Brilliant!
It is a shame, Bob, considering that you were working on S&W's revolver barrel assembly line.
Spot On
Harrell's delivery of information is flawless. He reminds me of my best Sergeants in the U.S. Army. I'm proud to have him in my home State of Oregon.
And to think he does as few takes as possible. I'd have to do a cut every several seconds.lol
Hard to beat Paul
he's the opposite of Nutnfancy. both are thorough but nutnfancy is just verbal smorgasbord of self praising, talking about irrelevant topics, showing how good he thinks he shoots and gives completely biased reviews based on random things. he'll like something and then suddenly he'll nitpick on a few random things and give it a bad rating and vice versa. following his advice on gear, guns and ammo will put you on a long road of hurt
It should be a crime for lawyers to try to get someone convicted of a crime they know they didn't commit.

A lot of folks will blab on forever and then finally say "long story short." I love Paul because he actually knows how to make a long story short. Also, I really appreciate your fair way of explaining the problems with the particular case study you outline. Admitting your lack of information, but also being sure not to vilify anyone involved, including the prosecutors or jury, while acknowledging that bias is a real thing.

having a gun or not has nothing to do with a gun.
Yup ... grew up in the Alaskan Bush ... if all you had was a 22 and were in dire need ... you'd be loving it.
A brick in your hand is worth a tank a block away.
