I'm the previous owner of this kit. David did this kit total justice!!! The carbon fiber wrap was my attempt to do SOMETHING to this kit as the wrap was in rough shape. I gave up on it and glad David was able to give this kit its proper due.
@@jackhwthorne It can however, I was toying with the idea of rewrapping this kit and tried the carbon fiber as an experiment. Not a huge fan then I had some other things come up that I put the rewrap idea aside. It all worked out as David did justice to this kit....more than I could have!
Dave: *applies white lithium grease to literally everything, meticulously cleans all hardware components prior to assembly, and can remove JB Weld with only a razor blade* Also Dave: I didn’t bother gluing the wrap to the shell
I worked at the Home Depot for 13 years, I’d gone for orange. I’ve been sponsored for my rehab, I chose drums! Every Thursday I have a drum lesson. I’m disabled for life, so financially for me to purchase my own kit, well my chance are nil. Back to your video. Looks great, nice job.
The reveal on this kit made my mouth drop. I’m extremely impressed with how good that yellow looks and what you did with the hoops. This is why I watch rdavidr. 👌
Sounds great! Think I’ve convinced my uncle to give my his late 70’s fibrestar, it’s 24” 13” 14” and 18” the rack toms are concert toms unfortunately but my get a bearing edge cut on the 14” and just have the one rack, I enjoy your videos, thanks from the uk
He made it look easy. And I know damn good and well there is NOTHING easy about rewrapping. They look great and sound fabulous! Congrats! Wonderful job
We just give a like here but definitely there is so much work behind this content David, we really appreciate your work...keep doing this, you are the man!
I gave one of your drum stickers to the guitar player in our worship band at church. He filled in for me at a Thursday practice that I could not make. He thought it was the coolest thing.
Late 70s kit. I have an Imperialstar kit from the same era. Is the royal pewter color with the same hardware. The wraps from those years were not great. Nice job!
I repair quite a few vintage shells, and the one thing I would offer is how I cut the holes through the wrap. I use a small cordless drill and a block of wood. I determine the correct drill bit size for the hole. Hold a block tightly against the wrap side and drill through the hole into the block. Takes less than five minutes to get all the holes done and they're cut clean and exact.
I always loved the sound of fiberglass drums... didn't love hauling them around though! I've got an old pearl fiberglass kit and I think I'm gonna give them the rewrap treatment!
I wasn’t sure about the yellow at first, but if looks fantastic I love the bass drum hoops too they really tied it all together, and they sound really good
Reminds me of John Coghlan’s Yellow Premier kit. Part of it can be seen on “John Coghlans Life Laundry” here on RUclips. As an ex tribute band drummer from London, really love watching your videos.
Totally get the “not sure about the yellow” in the UK we would say “it looks a bit chavy” and that’s coming from a guy who owns a gretsch Catalina in copper sparkle, but once it was done, looked and sounded amazing! MORE CONTENT!!!!
This might be the driest sounding kit I've ever heard. I've never even seen or heard a fiberglass kit in person, at least that I know of. Glad I watched this.
Fiberglass drums tend to go one of two ways. Drummers either love them or hate them. I own two Pearl fiberglass series. One has standard toms. The other has concert toms. I've seen very expensive fiberglass drums and I've seen them go very cheap. It just depends on the buyer. You did a great job as usual!
Man, nice job! Looking forward to those Fibes kits! I've redone a few Fibes fiberglass toms before and they sounded great. I currently have a 24, 13, 18 Fibes (Martin era) acrylic kit with a matching snare, but no fiberglass stuff anymore. Keep up the good work, man! Love your videos!
Wow! These drums look & sound awesome! You seem to be acquiring a lot of vintage Tama Drums lately. As for Fibes, my first kit was a Fibes Crystalite Cleat kit from the 1970s with an 16” X 18” bass drum, an 8” X 12” rack Tom , & a 14” X 14” floor Tom. The kit sounded good, but I felt limited by it so I traded it for the 1987 Pure White Pearl Export that I currently have & love playing nowadays. However, I still have the Pure White Maxwin by Pearl 5 1/2” X 14” snare drum that was with my Fibes kit when I got it. It matches up perfectly with the Export kit & sounds great.
First I´ve to admit that you did a great job again. I´m always looking out for your next video. I´m not a yellow guy and if I had to rewrap I´d go for something red sparkle with big flakes. Kit sounds great and so do the cymbals. Especially the china impressed me very much and I hope you´ll get me some further information on this.
What color would you rewrap your kit?
rdavidr black😎
Safety Orange
Turquoise/blue/ green like ocean kinda stuff
Glittery silver all the way. Them look hot
Solid white

If it makes you feel any better, I think carbon wraps look sick in the right context

It’s true I was the kit
I prefer the faux carbon to the lars yellow, but respect for realising you didn’t have the time and passing it on to someone who did.

what do you mean? it's self-adhesive. like mactac.
@@sebp400 he didn't glue it all the way around, he just pulled it taught and stuck the overlap. the lugs keep it in place just fine.
I had to rewind that, I was like "what??"
I always think of Tony Williams when I see a yellow kit.
I was going to post the same thing! Tony Williams yellow.. nice color choice David!
I think of John Stainer, specially if it's a Tama
I think of Dennis Chambers
Bill Bruford 1990's with King Crimson... yellow kit and a matching yellow suit
Dude. You are a WIZARD. This is such a cool wrap.
🧙♂️
He's a drumzard
Or bearded drum wizard
indeed
Looks good and sounds killer! The vinyl logo you put on the front is brilliant! Well done dude.

pls dont butcher the concert toms, just buy a 14"
Nice Job David. It's fun to watch you geek out over your never ending supply of drum toys to tweak and play with.
He made it look easy. And I know damn good and well there is NOTHING easy about rewrapping.

Congrats! Wonderful job
This has to be one of my favorite RUclips videos of all time.
Sound was absolutly AWESOME !!!!!

THE SNARE , my dream, not high, not low, still sounds. Love it!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing! You’re a true craftsman, teacher AND a good drummer.
My goal in life is to have a drum workshop like yours. Great kit right there and i'm not a yellow type of guy either but it works somehow lol.
Aww I love the kit!!! I might make mine a dark red or a white, but I love the green too.
Love the yellow! Excellent video. Also, ur playing is awesome. 😎

woooooo! That yellow really pops. looks purty! great resto. great vid.
I love how controlled they sound except for the snare is a wee bit dry. Everything else sounds great and the goofy wrap choice worked. 👍🔥🐕
Thanks rdavidr for another great video. I spend at least an hour a day just watching all your vids bc they are all so good. Keep up the good work
You are a real more as drum tech but an artist not only as a drummer but and for sure as a technician!
Those toms sound phenomenal!
The floor tom sounds just amazing🤤🤤

Kit looks great and sounds even better!! Nice groove.
That's a really beauty Tama. Congratz!
Seriously like the nicest looking set I’ve ever seen
I always loved the sound of fiberglass drums... didn't love hauling them around though! I've got an old pearl fiberglass kit and I think I'm gonna give them the rewrap treatment!
Man this kit turned out super clean. I love that custom sticker you did
This was a Really Great Video! I had never heard of Tama Fibre Stars before. Nice Job and the Kick Hoops Made it stand out.
One of the most talented people on this planet.
The kit is great but can we talking about how good David just sounded
didn't know rdavid could rap...
straight bars son
Rap sucks
@@69zenos1 Not true.
Prolly your best one yet! Great job.
You picked a color I’d never even consider but man oh man, that bad boy looks good.
That floor tom is low, and phat. Damn it sounds good. Nice color choice.
Those turned out great yellow actually looks pretty good
I wasn’t sure about the yellow at first, but if looks fantastic I love the bass drum hoops too they really tied it all together, and they sound really good

I own an original run Pearl Wood-Fiberglass kit. It's amazing. I love the 12" tom, probably the best sounding 12" tom I've ever heard.
That yellow is so epic!!!
Holy shit, instantly subscribed the moment you wrapped that first tom 👍
Beautiful!
Really loving the thud from the kick and Toms, never been a Tama fan but loving this kit
Looks and sounds great, I especially the sound of the floor tom.
Wow very nice work! The fibre looks similar to my Bello fiber glass kit. My drums have a painted finish like a fiber glass boat.
This might be the driest sounding kit I've ever heard. I've never even seen or heard a fiberglass kit in person, at least that I know of. Glad I watched this.
Love the yellow! Nice work my dude
Man! That kit looks fire!!! Love the wrapping.... Makes me wanna redo my Mapex Venus kit, but I think I'd do it orange....🤔🔶
I, for one, think carbon fiber looks good on a lot of things. Drums included. At least you did something cool with these fiberglass shells!
I love how it looks and sounds.
Omg, complete package! Sound great, look great!

Those sounds (and look) amazing. What a great setup
Wow. Never heard of them! Looks great!
Man, you can be proud! It looks beautiful! And it sounds too!
Sick color dude!!! It could not be better!!!
Very nice job! I have a fibreglass Milestone kit in Canary Yellow and it's explosive!
I never expected to like the look of a yellow set
It's very Tony William's, even though he played a yellow Gretsch kit. Looks amazing! Needs black dots to complete the look. 👍
Great idea, Devoted effort, amazing result. Thank you for sharing.
Might have to look into one of these!! Best sounding toms i've ever heard!!
Awesome episode rdavidr! I’m also in the fiberglass cult; “more birch than birch”. Love the channel!
Beatifull Drums man!!!! Congratulation for work. Saudações de Portugal.
I would totally wrap my maple 🍁 catalinas in a beautiful bright lavender 👍
Well that’s just screaming out in yellow. 💛👍
Yo Dave, you should do a comparison of ALL of your Tama kits. I think it would be a cool thing to see for all us Tama enthusiasts!
Excellent work, that is a beautiful colour. I love it.
Solid work man. Nice chops too!
