Great work! A pleasure to watch! - The video reminds me of my first drum kit. It was a blue glitter snare and silver glitter toms and bass drum. I later went to piano black. Now I want to go back to my glitter kit. Thanks for the inspiration!
An absolute piece of art. I can not even begin to imagine how many hours went into that. To have a finish done like that would have to cost "stupid money" but it sure would look sweet... Wow!!!
First I'll comment on the content. I think you did a great job. I've done a few projects similar to this but never a full on glitter+clearcoat. I just don't have the tools for it. Probably not the talent/skill either ;) So, on to the drums. I think the Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage series is much underrated. Everyone has their own take on what sounds good but to me these sound great. I've owned vintage Ludwigs, which are probably my favorite sound but I've also owned vintage Pearl MMX, vintage Tama Superstar, Yammy Beech Customs, Mapex Saturns, and Premier Signia Marquise among others. All were great and I wish I could have kept them all. The sound of the SC Advantage is second only to the vintage Ludwigs and Superstars. Must be the Falkata inner ply bc it sure isn't the luan sandwich plies or the outer birch ply ;)
Wow. Very nice work Marek! I have had many Yamaha Stage Custom kits over the years but never one was this beautiful! I am going to try and redo a vintage Ludwig kit, the lacquer has some scratches all the way down to the stain, so I may have to re-stain the drums. This video is very helpful!
When it comes to cleaning up lug holes, I use a countersink bit from the inside of the shell. Looks like you may have done the equivalent here off camera, and super-cleanly.
Mógłbym być Twoim ojcem, ale Bóg mi świadkiem, chciałbym na jesień życia terminować u Ciebie. Nie wyobrażam sobie lepszej emerytury po latach nieudanej kariery...bębniarza. Szacuneczek, Przyjacielu!
Świetnie zrealizowany filmik 👍 Wreszcie ktoś pokazał od A do Z Gratuluję rezultatu pracy 👍💪 Mam pytanie jakby się miała sytuacja z białym? Jaki kolor brokatu w takim układzie? Przymierzam się i chciałbym w bieli z nieco grubszym brokatem niż u Ciebie. Jeśli to nie kłopot, napisz jakiego dokładnie kleju użyłeś. Z góry dziękuję i powodzenia z kolejnymi wyzwaniami ✌️
Beautiful skilled craftsmanship. Each drumpiece is unique. A true work of art. Clearly illustrated and very informative. I also liked the music in the background, which I'd rather call the soundtrack instead. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this video. You did a great job! I would like to repaint my ‘90 Ludwig Super Classic kit which currently has a white lacquer finish that has yellowed over the years. Just wondering if it is necessary to take all the finish off down to the wood. Or can you just rough it up so the the primer coat will adhere and go from there? I want to do a black heavy sparkle or glitter finish to the point where it almost looks dark grey.
Looks amazing Marek! Greetings from Wales, UK 🙂 I'd love you to renovate a kit for me in the future, in the purple sparkle- It looks fantastic! Have just subscribed too. Thanks, Nick
If it helps, there's a place in Wales called Cariad Drums, the owner (Leigh) did a TAMA Starclassic EFX 14" Floor Tom for me which was originally wrapped, he removed the wrap, painted & lacquered it to match my the rest of my kit (red to black sparkle fade), and it looks absolutely incredible, I think it was about £130.
Thanks for the video. This is a 21 minute video, however, I'd like to know how long did it actually take to complete this project as well as, what grade sandpaper was used in the different stages of the process, I saw that for previous finish removal you used a 80 grit and then some 300ish grade for edges, however, no information on the table sandpaper or the finish sanding with water. I myself, would like to do this project and this information would certainly be very useful. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.
A barbeque spit motor could have kept the shell turning for painting and drying. The factory's keep them spinning slowly during painting and drying, no runs no drips.
Great job , thank You for video . I want repair Amati 1969 beech drums shells and i need gold glitter. Can You write me when i can buy this color glitter? Best of luck.
I mean if you look at a documentary on the way they make the drums cutting that lip to the correct angle is one of the most important part of the process I'm not trying to put your work your a pro at what you do on time I started messing around with the lip by sanding it I never got that drum to sound right after
It's called a "bearing edge".....and yes it's critical to a drums sound. You simply need a table router to cut the bearing edge. There's an inner, and outer edge. There's lots of info about the different types of bearing edges you can cut, just google it, or search here on YT.
Amazing job! Wow… I want to redo my Premier Signia’s and this video definitely gave me a good reference to redo them this was instead of wrap..Ty!! What grade of sandpaper did you use to remove the old lacquer?
Try yourself and start from higher grid. I would use 150 or lower to remove old lacquer, and then maybe 250 to smooth the surface. If you like to paint them than try to achieve really nice finish. If you go for glitter it doesn't matter that much. I would like to have Signia verry much. They are amazing. Thank you and take care!
Marek, wow! That is a work of art! Hats off to you! Fantastic!!
Thank you. You can get them very cheaply and they sound great. I recommend to everyone.
