That's the Mat I love. Reviewing a Duster, and comparing it to R8. Making the potential customer of a Duster feel special by doing a full review will all things considered. Full format review. Classic Mat.
Had my Duster bifuel a few weeks now..... I love it! Its Simple without the gimmicks I wouldnt use and need I say anything about it being cheap run on LPG. I have Dogs so the boot space is great and the hard plastics are easy to clean.
Got my 2023 Duster, and I do know people tend to always praise their car no matter how old or ugly it is, but this car is freaking amazing. They did incredible things with the design which was the biggest turn off when buying Dacia, they got rid of the noise inside the coupe when driving, the comfort inside is actually pretty amazing for the price. Overall, whoever laughs at you for driving Dacia has no idea what he is talking about.
Yep, I come from Poland where people used to drive old Dacias, so they look at them differently. However, I live in the UK now and I got myself new Jogger and just love it. People should not compare Diacia 1310 with the latest technology. I drove it to St Tropez and back, then to Poland and back, all within few months and no issues. Drives and handles lovely. I will definitely stay with this brand for longer.
Does exactly what it's meant to do - apart from the claimed 0 to 60 but let's be honest, that doesn't matter as it's quick enough here - and at a great price. Good long term prospects too and reliable and sturdy. Comfy as well, including a longer cruise. Comparisons have to be 'apples/apples', not 'apples/oranges.' Job done. Well done Renault.
I’ve had two of these. Did 150k and 199k respectively. Had each for three years. First had to go to the garage once and the second not at all apart from servicing. Alas I do big mileage and many hours in the car. It’s seats are it’s weakest point. Not supportive over a full day. Overall an excellent motor.
@@noahuhrenholdt3389 The safety rating for personal use doesn't matter much. It's got everything but some electronic gadgets which are unnecessary for an experienced driver and the problem with all the aids including general road safety is that it lulls the driver into false sense of security. That in essence obviously lowers attention. And airbags can only do so much on which front Duster hasn't got a problem as far as I know.
I must admit I did laugh at the how to let a fart of the cabin bit! 😂 Thing is the quoted 0-60 time was more than likely for the 2wd diesel version and not the 4wd as it has a different gearbox than the 2wd with a shorter 1st gear for downhill decents when offroading. Yes it will be noisy when accelerating but all diesels are. I think they're cracking value for money and a good buy.
Matt dont get the wrong idea of why the fuel cap has to be released from the inside. idk about UK but in my countries, ppl get their fuel stolen. thats why it shouldnt allow anyone to open from outside unless you have the key to unlock your car and release it.
Many cars have a remote opening fuel lid, and have had them for many years, I cannot see why that is even an issue, and as far as the soft suspension goes we are back to slagging of the very thing that gives the vehicle any off road prowess without any explanation, the two wheel drive has firmer suspension as it does not need to keep all its wheels in ground contact to maintain traction due to the fact that it wouldn't be in that situation, due to pushing the extra metal the 4x4 version doesn't quite get the same to the gallon as my conventional one, the only real criticism I have is the rather light tow weight, my old Discovery was three and a half tons, but at thirty three to the gallon as opposed to fifty eight point seven (my best yet), you can't have everything. When you next criticize a four wheel drive for soft suspension could you please qualify why it has it or can we see Ferrari's criticized for lack of ground clearance when off road, fair is fair.
Hi Mat for proper launch dacia recomend to start from 2 gear. The first gear is dedicated for off road use or with hi loads.Except of that this is car worthy of money.
Buy Buy Buy! I have my Dacia Duster 2018 Prestige version and It's honestly the best car ever for me. 0 problems so far and I am at 45k kilometers as of now.

Loved this car, owned for 6 yrs but renault didn’t care to give proper updates despite ruling the segment and being the one with best ride and space at that time.
It’s mainly because automatic transmission cars are the standard in america, whereas in Europe manuals are the standard. And manuals are much cheaper to produce.
@@purwantiallan5089 not really, it's a decent car all around. besides, it's not even that good for offroading. bunch of undersized parts cause wear pretty quickly on the engine mounts. it's not expensive to change them but you have to do it all the time. unless of course they fixed it since last time i owned one
We've got 4 models in South Africa (badged by Renault with more attractive grill) - all with the 1.5 diesel engin. I'm driving a 2019 4x4 (manual). Very frugal, enough punch when overtaking, excellent offroad ability - very short 1st gear serves as a low range gear in 4x4 lock mode. Couldn't get anything else at the price except Suzuki Jimny which is far less practical and heavier on fuel. Definitely the Duster automatic for city.
The Dacia brand and all of its models should come to the US. It would have a market that is almost nearly abandoned, which is cheap affordable cars for basic transportation. I can guarantee you that the Duster would be a hit due to its affordability and the fact that it’s an SUV. But of course, their models will have to pass regulations so that may be a reason why they can’t sell here.
There are loads of options for cars around 15 to 20k in US. Except most people don't want most bareboned car and those who do probably can't even afford the 15k.
@@CoreMaster111 I understand where you’re coming from, but that market is literally becoming extinct! The Chevy Spark and Hyundai Accent are recent examples of models that were discontinued! And it doesn’t help that everything is getting expensive nowadays! And it’s just sad how everyone wants the latest bells and whistles in their cars! Yeah they’re cool and all, but everyone needs to realize cars from like 10+ years ago didn’t have all that stuff!
Appears to be a fairly decent vehicle. I still am convinced that this could do well in Australia , with the bigger petrol engine, Auto tranny & AWD. Would absolutely knock any of the Chinese offerings here for 6. The diesel appears a bit underdone for Australia & manual transmissions are almost a rarity here anyway. Now all we need are a network of importers, dealers, parts , warranty etc. Just need someone to BRING THIS IN .
In UAE, we get this car with a 2.0L 4cyl and 4 speed auto. Would be good for Australia also I guess. The 2.0L engine is not available in Europe because emissions regs there stopped production.
@@aaryeshg.6526 That car, with 2l gasoline engine and 4 speed auto, are made at Mioveni plant, Romania. Unlike the one in the video, who are made in India (like all the right steering Dacias). @@BogdanBogdan-um9zi that is very nice. It's actually a good engine here, super relaxed for road trips and strong air conditioner, my family had it with that engine for 8 years from new and it ticked along nicely to 150k km before selling and it's still going along to this day. The only thing I hated is that 4 speed auto. 😂 The gear ratios are too long and ruins the smoothness and acceleration. It is a little juddery in traffic but transmission never broke. At highway speeds its great. I imagine it would be better with a 6 speed auto. It needs closer ratios to make it really smooth.
@@gluttonousmaximus9048 Renault Aust have been looking at this here for a while. So far no vehicles have been bought in here for evaluation purposes as yet. But I gather it's still in their plans & still likely possibly in 2023. Can only hope.

This Carwow channel has lost the plot in terms of reviews, and it seems everything that doesn't have a "posh" badge, is reviewed in the most condescending and obnoxious way.... like ewww, here's what poor people drive. When we do get a review of an everyday, attainable car, we get this mess
Well said mate. I noticed this as well, it is Matt, other channels seem to cate about normal people, whereas Matt seems to be on a mission to hate Dacia. He has Polish roots,so maybe this why.

I have a frend who is a mechanic and have a Duster. He says its the best car you can get. Machine is Renaults and its realy reliyeble. I dont know what others car producers are thinking...
in more expensive cars, they fuel filler is locked shut when the doors are locked. This is achieved by a solenoid which would add cost and complexity, and dacia are a bare bones kind of brand
@@RD19902010 Yes i know, but thats because Alfa are not trying to make the cheapest car possible. Base model hatchbacks back in the early 90s had fuel flaps that only unlocked when you pulled a lever in the cabin... but again, that added unnecessary cost to the car. You either care about car cost, or you care about security and other nicities
I recently bought a FWS petrol 1.3 turbo and I love it! I prefer to call the (what you describe as) "scratchy" door and dash plastics as "easy wipe clean". OK, performance is not lightening fast but it's not a Ferrari and is very much more than adequate, as is it's road holding - the extra ground clearance soaks up most potholes like they were never there but I have found it to be more than able in country lanes and twisting corners, and can easily keep up with whatever is in front of it. I prefer not to think of it as a cheap car (as it is very well kitted out), but more that other cars are too expensive!
6:50 I *hate* the automatic window scroll, it just feels so counter intuitive. Most of the time when I want to open a car window, *I don't* want it to go all the way - and before I get a chance to stop it from scrolling too much, it's already past the intended stop. And it becomes annoying to try and adjust. I would like a window system that allows me easy *control* of the opening length, thank you!
Best bang for your buck without the over priced tack you get on modern tech cars now days...this review doesn't help having a posh mummy's boy reviewing a decent car being sarcastically fobbed off.

I bought the Duster Extreme Special edition. I think it's great, I love an underdog. The heated seats have 1 setting and come on and off. The little cipholder I use for a California scents air freshener. The other 2 aren't an issue except the back one with the arm rest can end up covering it up. The side seel definitely does touch the back of your legs. I've driven the car in snow and it did very well, better than the other people I was around. Its not fast at all but it doesn't feel as slow as it is. What I like that Matt doesn't go into is there's a good amount of storage under the seats, so under the passenger seat I've got a bunch of things. The headrests are very hard which is about the only bad thing I can say. It's got lots of cheap plastics but it's cheap and it keeps the car from being a full on family car and keeps a bit of a rugged off road feel which is what I like most about this car, it doesn't feel like it's just a useless over sized hatchback, it feels like it's got serious purpose
1) I m acctually amazed by how nice people outside romania find Dacia to be, in romania most people prefer to buy a 20 year old rusty sh!t box from Germany or Spain bcs "It s safer and better" And 2) I ve had my duster since August and only now I find out that you can t adjust only the height of the steering wheel?!?!?!
Mine just arrived, getting it next week. That was 5 months since I ordered it. They did have to deliver it without the screen because, chip shortage, so I'll have to wait for that one but I'm super excited to get my Duster. It's a cute little SUV and I don't care how budget it is - it's cheaper than many used cars I could buy, it drives nicely, and it costs peanuts to repair if anything breaks. I've been waiting for a carwow review of it since before I ordered it though. I'm glad there's one now XD

I have had my duster 1.0 lpg for a year now, 17000 care free and cheap miles, the lpg was 43p now 73p a litre and an awful lot less than petrol, i get about 40 miles per gallon ,so its saved me a fortune, the car is quiet and fun to drive , and my very first car with air con....lol.
Its not meant to be quick and stop on a dime. 99% of cars on the road today try to be sporty from tiny city cars to jeeps, none of which have any right or logic being. Man I miss days when automakers knew to make distictions and off roaders were high, wallowy and ship like in corners making them a comfy sofa joy to drive. And cars makers attempted to make suspension of any cars comfortable not as fast a possible in corners even with a 1.3 3cy engine, bloody ridiculous what cars/reviewers demands have become.
One of the most popular cars in my area in Austria. But they aren't cheap anymore used, prices increased by ~40 % over the last 2 years and the demand is high.
I like Duster from 1st gen. The ratio performance/money/reliability is good. 2nd gen started to look nice and its getting better. I would love to have one of these.
I agree with the verdict. It is the perfect cheap family suv with real offroad capability at an excellent price, so it is a no brainer for those who seek something in that niche. Other than that though, too many shortcomings.

I disagree, the glovebox of RHD Dusters are too small at 06:17, they should have MOVED the fuse box to the right side of the car

We have 5 Dusters at the firm, 2020 model.
They work fine, never had an issue, they are fast enough for motorways and tall for country roads.
I wish Dacia would come to the US. We need more cars like this!
In 4x4 version if You want good time 0-60,You must start from second Gear. 4x4 has very short 1st Gear.
Duster is like cars used to be in the past: easy to drive, simple to repair, cheap to buy.
Overall, whoever laughs at you for driving Dacia has no idea what he is talking about.
heya, can you remove the spare wheel and lower the area to increase storage? thanks
I bought one a month ago and love it. 1.0L lpg. Never been happier with car purchase.

I’d probably say it’s the safety rating, that is its weak point…
@@noahuhrenholdt3389 The safety rating for personal use doesn't matter much. It's got everything but some electronic gadgets which are unnecessary for an experienced driver and the problem with all the aids including general road safety is that it lulls the driver into false sense of security. That in essence obviously lowers attention. And airbags can only do so much on which front Duster hasn't got a problem as far as I know.
I love those reviews. Straight to the point, no bullshit. Love it.

No bull but plenty of sillyness.Dont love it.
@@chriswood4011 Same here. He could at least try to respect the car and not just bang or throw things.
For better 0-60mph time he should have launched it from 2nd gear, because as you said the 1st gear is very short. It's more for offroad use only.
Laut Bedienungsanleitung 2 Gang und voll gas
a fact about duster is it has lower ratio 1st gear for off-roading, so that some of the drivers around here prefer to launch in 2nd gear
Matt dont get the wrong idea of why the fuel cap has to be released from the inside. idk about UK but in my countries, ppl get their fuel stolen. thats why it shouldnt allow anyone to open from outside unless you have the key to unlock your car and release it.
Thinking the same thing. With rising gas prices, siphoning may become a big issue.
My BMW and many other cars have the fuel door locked with it‘s central locking system. Thats what Mat was referring to
Cars have had an anti-siphon tank design for the past 25 years. This is utterly a non-issue.

Loved this car, owned for 6 yrs but renault didn’t care to give proper updates despite ruling the segment and being the one with best ride and space at that time.
I wish we could get affordable cars like this in America.

You should try the awd Duster with 1.3 150 hp petrol engine. I think some things about Duster will be updated. Not that boring.
Best car ever!!! Very reliable and cheap!
A company from Romania succeeded importing back the UAE type Duster, with official paper that is an euro 6 car. And you can buy it in Romania for ~ 20k euro.
In terms of cheapware, this is basically the opposite of ANY Chinese car, and that is to say, this is actually good.

Why is the fuel filler annoying? Seriously Matt that’s almost universal in Australia.
Personally I don’t like having my fuel filler open all the time.
in more expensive cars, they fuel filler is locked shut when the doors are locked. This is achieved by a solenoid which would add cost and complexity, and dacia are a bare bones kind of brand

What Dacia keeps doing for Renault is truly amazing.
I would prefer different door handles for the Duster, but its a great car!
Put that in an email
It says in the manual that first gear is for off-road and you should use 2nd gear for stating in daily driving
Double tap the button in the scrolling direction. Bidirectional control of the automatic window scroll does do that to you, yes.
Best bang for your buck without the over priced tack you get on modern tech cars now days...this review doesn't help having a posh mummy's boy reviewing a decent car being sarcastically fobbed off.

They market it based on what has more chances of inspiring confidence & bringing in sales... not that Dacia would bring in more sales (than Renault), even in Europe - but it's primarily a Dacia product from what I know, & the brand is at least somewhat known in Europe...
For the 0-60 mph, you should have tried starting in second gear. First gear is very low.
