We'll be doing our first movie reaction video soon, help us decide! What movie should we react to?

    • @arklytte
      @arklytte Год назад

That's a tough call. I suppose it depends on what you haven't seen.
Obviously, newer movies are always a good choice, but classics, if you haven't seen them, are great for bringing in a broader audience. Depending on what you've seen/not seen, here are a few recommendations:
The Lord of The Rings trilogy (Extended Edition, of course)
The Hobbit trilogy (Extended Edition as well)
Any of the Star Wars movies (well...1-6 anyway...the less said about the Sequels, the better)
The John Wick series (since Episode 4 is coming out soon)
Harry Potter (gives you 8 movies to work through)
Those are just some off the top of my head. There are obviously a HUGE amount of movies you could watch.
Oh, and if you're looking for another TV series to get into, I cant recommend the new Wednesday show enough. It was AMAZING, and I'd love to see y'all give your usual in depth analysis to that show. Plus, it was officially renewed for a second season, so something to look forward to. 😁😁

I mean they use pigs to look for truffles. I don't see why they can't train a dog to sniff out spores. They'd be perfect. And cordyceps evolve to infect one specific species at a time. So the type that infects humans can't infect dogs even if they breathe the spores in.

They use dogs to find truffles (they mostly use pigs, but they also use dogs in some places), so training one to sniff out mushroom heads isn't a big stretch.
That said, my guess is that, while the dog can smell the active mushrooms, Ellie doesn't have active mushrooms...they're either dead, or her body made them go dormant, or whatever...so, while she probably smells *weird* to the dog (thus all the initial growling), she doesn't smell like an Infected.
The scanner that FEDRA uses is, presumably, checking for specific proteins in the blood or something, which Ellie obviously does have, thus her showing up red on the scanner.

it’s definitely a terrible world that they live in but that’s the beauty of jackson-they’re trying to bring back some normalcy for people and their families, especially since almost every one of them has had to face such hardship in their lives. those moments with the christmas tree and all represent hope and family which is such an important theme in a world like that

There’s a lot of foreshadowing of Joel dying, especially in this episode:
    - A major character dies almost every episode. This one leads you to think it will be Tommy, maybe Maria, but once they’re safe then who…
    - Ellie says her biggest fear is ending up alone.
    - Ellie says everyone either dies or leaves her, and Joel ends up not leaving her, but…
    - “Are you dying? If you die, I’m fucked.”
    - “I just know I’m gonna fail her.”
    - Joel worries Ellie can’t survive without him, but she proves she can.
    - Episodes 1 & 6 have the same credits song. First time is a man singing upbeat as Joel is heading out on an adventure. Second time is a girl singing somber as Joel bleeds out in the middle of nowhere. “I’m taking a ride with my best friend. I hope he never lets me down again.”
Lots of reactors think Joel can’t die because “he’s the main character”, as if there isn’t another character who can fill that role, and as if saving Tommy and reaching the Fireflies requires Joel to survive.
TLDR: I’m glad he isn’t assuming Joel’s fine, because there’s really enough reason to assume he’s not, which is a refreshing reaction here.

I'm looking forward to losing TONS of sleep once the game comes out on PC. I've never had the opportunity to play it, since I'm not a console player (PC Master Race forever!! 😁). I know a bit about it from YT vids and such, and I'd seen the intro sequence a few times, but I know very little about it otherwise.
And, based on the reactions of those who've played the game, there are enough changes between the show and the game that it should still be quite a bit of fun and surprises.

  • @TomTomson81

The reason why Henry is shown again at the beginning was for the fans, because that's exactly how the cut had been made in the game. One shot, then black, then dam.
Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust."
Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series.
Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon."
This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his.
Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was "STILL gross". That was a callback to the DLC.
Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will properly get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback (Game DLC).
This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. we met Dina, properly Jessie, Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheep, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic.

I didn't catch that about the Henry cut, but now I remember - thank you for pointing that out! This episode was my favorite so far, so many great moments with Joel and Ellie (my favorite definitely being the "dream of sheep ranches on the moon" moment). I have only played Part 1 and Phil has not played the game at all, so we didn't catch the Part 2 references but I'm happy that they are leaving those moments for those that played both. Thank you for always leaving such insightful comments! -Kate

And yes, if I have the same thing to say that the reactor may not know or have recognized, then it makes sense partly to copy a lot of text. Doesn't change anything about the content worth knowing and with less work for me. You've probably never heard of quantity. That's what it was invented for. It's called work facilitation.

Joel told Tommy that he saw a man shot his brother to save Ellie. The Henry cut is more like part of Joel’s dream in which Joel said he keeps failing her. I don’t think they show that cut again just to please game fans.

    • @TomTomson81
      @TomTomson81 Год назад

@@davidnguyen3275 Of course they do. And of course, if it were a dream, it would show all the scenes mentioned by Joel and not just Henry's. In addition, one would not have to point out after the dream that 3 months have passed, if the dream repeats itself always. Then one write 3 months and then show the dream that still occupies him. No, that was a normal retrospective that was exactly as the game showed it. Like many other things before.

This is the most vulnerable we’ve seen from both Joel and Ellie yet. We know watching from Joel the desperation to close himself off to preserve whatever humanity he doesn’t want to lose yet and him breaking down in front of Tommy is indicative of how much he’s barely keeping it together, how this dam he built up for himself is breaking apart the more he gets closer to his new surrogate daughter……
Ellie, on the other hand, is a whole different kettle of fish. This is where her abandonment issues begin to boil over the more she loses her innocence; between being orphaned by her parents, being pawned off by Marlene, losing Riley, Tess, Henry and Sam, now she has to watch her father figure pawn her off and abandon her too? This girl can’t catch a damn break; it breaks my heart when she repeatedly tells him “Don’t leave me alone”.

4:58 "She started to instantly panic." Good writing, that's a call back to Henry showing Sam that he's not scared so he'd feel safe. But here, Joel is having a literal panic attack and Ellie feels scared because Joel is not showing her that he's not afraid like Henry did with Sam. 😢

Great reaction, as always! And your after analysis is fantastic. It's one of the reasons you both are rapidly becoming one of my favorite new reaction channels.
A couple of (minor) criticisms. When you're editing down your reactions, I would suggest that you try to leave major and/or defining dialogue blocks intact. Cutting so much of Joel's breakdown to Tommy, then Ellie's going off on Joel was kinda jarring, and I think your live reaction to that would have been more interesting/satisfying than what we got.
Also, and this is a technical thing, there were a few times where the playback stuttered. Not sure what the issue is, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention.
Beyond that, nothing jumps out at me. Y'all were surprisingly harsh about the people of Jackson, but I get it. They're trying to create an oasis of normality, in a world that's gone to shit. They're trying to be a beacon of hope, and, yeah, shielding their kids from the harsh reality of the current world. It's admirable, but, yeah, a bit naive. I would hope that they would explain things, age appropriately, to the kids, including basically full disclosure once they're in their teens, because IMO that will keep them safer in the long run. But, by the same token, I do understand the desire to shield them. It's a tough balancing act.
But overall, I think the whole point of Jackson is to represent hope for a better future. Whether that will ultimately work out is a subject for debate.
That's my two cents, anyway. Beyond that, LOVED the reaction, and I cant wait to see where you both go from here. :)

    • @filmbenders

We're so glad you liked it! Our reasoning for cutting so much is to avoid any copyright issues but we definitely didn't want to have any cuts that would be jarring to the viewer. Your feedback is invaluable, we'll definitely try to avoid cuts such as that in the future. As far as Jackson, it does seem that we came off cynical of the community they built, but really we just felt that it was disturbing to see a normal functioning city when the rest of the world is in such disarray. The city was beautiful and it was refreshing to see the children get to be children again, but it seemed cruel to have them grow up mentally unprepared for the reality that lies beyond the walls of Jackson. Even if they are educating the children on what the rest of the world is like, they will still be much more unprepared for it than a kid who was brought up the way Ellie was. This was the basis of why we came off harsh, but of course it is all up for debate, that's what makes it such a great show! Thank you so much for the support! We can't wait to make more videos for you guys!

I find it funny that you're both so cynical about Jackson. Given the tone of the story, I can't say I blame you. Jackson is genuinely a utopia, full of people who actually care deeply about maintaining their peace. They're also very welcoming to good or vulnerable people (elaborated on in the games). They just have good reason to be careful - 99% of the other communities throughout the US aren't nearly as virtuous or prosperous.
Tommy wouldn't be in Jackson if he didn't genuinely think that they're good people.

Agreed. That's one of the (very few) criticism's I have of their reactions. There were plenty of other bits they could have cut out, and then have left in more of Joel's talk with Tommy and Ellie's going off on Joel in the bedroom. Both are SO critical to the tone of this whole episode, and them getting chopped was kinda jarring.
