  • February 1, 2015 - Tom Brady leads the Patriots on 2 TD drives leading to a 28-24 lead late in the 4th Quarter of Super Bowl 49. However, in the last drive of the game, Russell Wilson drives the Seahawks all the way down to the Patriots 1 yard line with a couple of clutch completions and an unbelievable catch by WR Jermaine Kearse. However, on 2nd & Goal from the 1, Patriots CB Malcolm Butler intercepts Wilson sealing the Patriots Super Bowl win and the 4th title in the Brady-Belichick era.

Often overlooked but an absolutely amazing play was actually on the play just before the interception - watch again Hightower’s tackle on Marshawn Lynch. Belichick and others actually comment on it in the “Do Your Job” video from NFL films. Hightower literally bench presses a guy off him and dives at Lynch to stop him on the half yard line. If he doesn’t do that, there is no chance for that AMAZING interception. I don’t think I will ever tire of seeing Malcolm Butler make that catch.❤😊

Before the play, I recall feeling irritation and disbelief as I backed up to lean against a wall, thinking, "Are they seriously going to lose another SB in miraculous, heartbreaking fashion?" I noticed that NE hadn't called a timeout, so my nervousness increased, because this was it. There wouldn't be enough time to tie the game.
After the interception (the pass play didn't shock me, go figure), I gasped and quickly covered my mouth as I was stunned into silence for what felt like very protracted seconds. Yeah, kind of an odd reaction, but I was only a teenager (an emotional and introverted one). I remember my mom asking me if I was all right haha. I think I muttered something along the lines of "they did it" and cried a bit. But then I got worried about a potential safety. After Seattle was flagged for offsides, a feeling of exuberance and relief swept over me. That was my first true triumph as a sports fan. Somehow, there aren't many experiences as euphoric!

And butler to be aware enough, when the ball was snapped,to make a play Is just amazing!!! Great example of what good coaching can do! +Papa Disco lol he was a factor idk what your talking about his presence alone is a factor , ill admit first half he wasnt speacial but after the bye week he was most certainly in Revis Island form. they would not have won this game without Revis . also Browner brought that legion of boom toughness that this Pats team had lost when we lost Harrison, bruschi, seymour , and not to mention ty law the best cornerback new england has ever had . also if revis was on this team still we most certainly would have went back to back imagine revis oppisite butler , good move to move on from revis in thr long run when you need to resign butler sheard Hightower collins , we shoukd be able to because NE is CHEAP , i hate how denver can always resign their own and then sign the likes of Demarcus Ware Tj Ward Emmanuel sanders . Brady and sanders would be disgusting , malcolm mitchell will be like Emmanuel Sanders because of tom brady youd heard it first within two years Mitchell will be a fidxe in this league mark my words

I honestly got teary eyed for Butler at the end. He seems like an awesome guy, he went undrafted and when he was picked up by New England and still had almost no time to shine and then he makes that play at that moment and bring New England a Superbowl win. Now he's a top 5 cornerback. I got to admit as a Bills fan, if the Patriots were in another division or I was a fan of a different team they'd be my second favorite team no doubt. There's so many lovable, well disciplined and skilled players on their team. And while I don't like Brady or Belichick I have infinite respect for them.

The Falcons SB gets all the attention, but this was the greatest single SB in history because of how comeptetive the game was and the incredible play of both teams.

In my experience people rarely talk about the Falcons meltdown unless it's juxtaposed to this debacle. Like a "which ones worse/would you rather?" conversation. As a Hawk Nationalist, I prefer this over the longer agonizing defeat Falcons experienced.

@@ronharris3411 Falcons blew that game. Not settling for the 3 point fg attempt was a blunder of epic proportions. Now that was bad coaching. Patriots didn't steal it, the Falcons gave it away. The seahawks game was crucial for the Patriots dynasty. They lose they go to 3-3 and have lost 3 straight.
That game really did make up for the 2007 Giants loss. No team is going to go 9 for 9 in SB's. Just look at the Chiefs.

This SB is definitely much harder than the falcons game
