As a Patriots fan seeing this in real time I have never been so excited and confused at the same time. It was a feeling of dread knowing that Marshawn Lynch was about to pound it in from the 1. To confusion of seeing a pass play lining up into disbelief watching Malcom Butler pick off a 3 yd pass at the goal line. As happy as I was, I still look back on it and feel sad about how Marshawn didn't get the exact moment he had worked for his entire life.

In the 2013 NFC CG, 49ers against Seahawks, Marshawn fumbled trying to punch it in from one yard out and the 49ers recovered. When Marshawn Lynch nearly scored the play before, I said to myself, the next play is a touchdown Marshawn for sure. I couldn't believe the call....You can tell that moment still hurts Marshawn, and rightfully so.
The defense already gave up a 10pt lead in this game and Lynch was stopped on a 3rd and short as well. There is no guarantee that he gets in. Marshawn had a history of not being able to convert the short gains for 1st that season.

I remember watching this game with my wife. She’s knows nothing about football. During the game I was explaining to her what was happening, telling her about the legion of boom, and showing her videos of Beast Mode causing a literal earthquake with the run he had against the Saints. When they got down to the 1yrd line, she said excitedly “they’re going to give it to the Beast guy.” Then the pick happened. That showed me that my wife, a person who knows NOTHING about football, knew what the right call should be. That memory still replays in my head and still can’t believe the Seahawks made that call.

And it’s not like Marshawn has never been stopped at the 1 yard line before. In the 2013 NFC CG, 49ers against Seahawks, Marshawn fumbled trying to punch it in from one yard out and the 49ers recovered. There was some atrocious officiating in that NFC CG as well, but that’s another story.

Watching him open up about the ripple effects of that call and how devastating it was to the rest of the team (especially the Legion of Boom) and not just him was heart-wrenching.
