I think, all things considered, this could seriously go down as the greatest game in NFL history. It had absolutely EVERYTHING you would want in a game. And to do it in the Superbowl? Best I've ever seen so far.
As a patriots fan this was such an intimidating game to go into at the time. Brady getting older, had lost the last 2 Super Bowls we played in, and going against arguably the best defense of the decade. Just remember being terrified of the possibility of losing 3 in a row. Took Tom’s greatness and a pinch of luck to pull this one out. Chess match until the very end-arguably the greatest game ever played in the history of the sport.
WHOAH THERE BUDDY!!! . Settle down. Did you say the greatest game ever? 😅😂 You cannot be serious, right? Seattle could have easily won that game had they given the ball to Marshawn Lynch. Thats stating the obvious but seriously. He was averaging 4.5 yards per carry that game. Even if he got stopped on that play he would have had 2 more times to try and get it in the end zone and to sit here and tell me with a straight face that the Pat's defense would prevent Lynch from gaining 1 yard 3 different times is absolutely Ludacris. Whoever made that call is a complete idiot and should not be allowed to coach or call any play for any NFL team ever again. Oh and by the way Rams vs Titans Superbowl was easily a better game than watching a team get robbed by one idiot call. Also the Patriots vs Falcons Superbowl was definetley one of the greatest Games I have watched for sure.
Exercised a few demons here, too. We'd lost to the Tyree catch in the same stadium 7 years previously. Some of us still scarred from that feared the worst after the Kearse circle catch 😂😂😂
Not really deserved. The run was expected. He had come up just short the previous play. The play they went for had worked a number of times already and Butler was known to have struggled with it in practice and for the part of the game he played. Honestly the reasoning was absolutely sound.
@@jameswest9388 Came up short from 5 yards out. 2nd and goal at the half foot mark. The reasoning wasn't sound at all. you don't think Lynch would get in with 3 more tries inside the 1? Come on man.
Raymond Pryor the reasoning was absolutely sound for that play. Half foot, second down, just bash a quality RB like Lynch for as many downs as required is absolutely what’s expected by everyone. Opting for a play for one down that had worked 100% throughout the game and notoriously against personnel on the defence at the time was a perfectly sound call.
Up until that point in the NFL season there had been 108 passes thrown at the 1 yard line. 60 went for touchdowns. None were intercepted. I’ll take those odds.
I still think it would make no difference, they were close to scoring either way with Lane there, Brady just stupidly threw it straight to him, thats how he is, he plays off at like the 1st half or so, 2nd half he starts to wake up
miss ed him also he was under rated when on rams was tough as nails only thing got hurt alot because of it but now we got a better danny 2.0 aka coooooooop man he is the man ty for our super bowl mr cupp
As a Pats fan, the Seahawks as a team deserved to win that game. One bad call from one person overrode the obvious talent your team had. There is zero chance we could have stopped Marshawn Lynch multiple times with a yard to go. We won this game by fluke, just like we won the game against the Giants in the regular season in our so-called "perfect" season. That was one ugly game and we took a huge beating and all the flukes went our way. The Giants were the only team that whole season I was afraid of in the playoffs and I predicted we'd lose before the game started. Your team was the slightly better one here, one fluke didn't go your way and it sucks when that happens. May you experience a "Brady era" of your own so you can feel the good side of it.
I'm glad people are starting to remember the overall greatness of this game and not just that final play. This was definitely one of those Super Bowls that had you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. (Personally, after that Kearse catch, I was expecting the Patriots to let them score! ^^' )
i remember watching this game, as i was the only one rooting for the patriots inside my friends house, and this game had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. one of the best super bowls i’ve ever seen. both teams battled from start to finish and they both put on a show. i swear when malcolm butler made that interception i was screaming out loud that my friends landlord had to tell us to be quiet! 😂 i was literally screaming tears of joy because those last couple of plays by the seahawks had my heart beating really fast. much respect to seahawks fans💯 #patsnationbaby🙌
I was also the only one rooting for the Patriots in the house; at my own Superbowl party too! When Kearse made that catch with a minute left I couldn't believe it; I thought it was going to be the ending of Superbowl XLII all over again and I just wouldn't have been able to handle that!
the greatest game I ever watched the climax was unbelievable lol the Jeremy lane injury the great story of Chris Matthews Tom Bradys 10 point comeback in the 4th Quarter. The legendary Seattle should of ran it Memes. The Immaculate INT. This is the Greatest Super bowl.
I think Super Bowl LI has almost overshadowed this game. Thinking about how insane this finish was: Patriots come back from 10 down in the 4th, take lead with two min left. Seahawks begin driving, with one of the two or three best catches in SB history by Kearse putting them in great shape. Then Butler picks it off at the goal line. We don't see interceptions on goal line jam plays in the regular season, let alone the Super Bowl! The swings in momentum are simply swift and incredible. Goes from Seahawks to Patriots to Seahawks back to Patriots in the last seven minutes. 51 was an amazing comeback, but the overall quality of the game from start to finish was better here. Tremendous.
Still amazing Pat's scored that much on that legendary defense. Sad what eventually happened with Butler and the Pats...but he will always be a legend in New England...to me anyway. One of my favorite SBs ever.

My favorite Super Bowl of ALL TIME!. This one had it all. High scoring on offense, good defensive play to the utterly sweet (or bitter) end. An all time defense against the GOAT. Doesn't get much better than this.
Not really. If you watched the game you would know that Julian Edelman injured our 2nd best corner at 1:20. He lead with his helmet and speared him, breaking Jeremy Lane's wrist. No flag there. between Peyton and Brady against the Legion of Boom. Peyton folded spectacularly the previous year in the Super Bowl. And Brady ended the Legion of Boom in this Super Bowl.
They would've beaten Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers on their way to back to back titles. The four best QBs of the last 25 years. Legacy ruined by the worst play call in NFL history.
Hands down my favorite Patriots game. I’m 19 now so I was too young to remember the first 3 SBs, and had to endure the two losses to the Giants. In my book, the Pats were 0-2 in SBs I had watched, and both had some miracle catch by Tyree and Manningham. So when the Kearse catch happened I had the exact same reaction as Tom, just disbelief. Then in about five minutes it all flipped. IMO, the best Super Bowl at least of this century, but it’s close with that and the PITvARI game.
Brady was used to losing super bowls by "bad luck", you can see his lack of confidence when seahawks were marching down the field, and even the kearse catch, you can see he barely reacted because he has now gotten used to losses like these, but this team is different from 2007-08 patriots and 2011-12 patriots, the guys are much trustworthy here than those teams tbh in the clutch and playoffs

It was truly a blessing to watch this Hawks team be at the top of the NFL for two consecutive years, only to spectacularly fall short at the very end. Brady and the Patriots made the plays to win it, and losses are part of the game.
towards the end of the third quarter, Kearse dropped a lovely pass from Russ. If he didn't drop that, Hawks would have scored again. Big moment of the game was that drop not many talk about. Yes, I know Kearse made the spectacular catch later.
Without a doubt the best Super Bowl yet! The best defense of its generation against the GOAT. Up an down game, great defenive plays, great offenses, 4th quarter lead change, 10 point comeback and an unsung hero coming out of nowhere!
I don't think the Patriots had any big plays on offense other than the deep one to Gronk at the end of the 1st half. The patience it took to beat this defense was unreal.
Does the really matter thou? They had a time out and it was only second down. Seattle blew it, Atlanta blew it. And LA just blew themselves for 4 quarters.
For me it was a toss up to see which ending excited me the most SB49 or 51-- and given I love the Pats I guess I enjoy both and more with every viewing.

Actually he wasn't eating on short yardage in the second half. It's like no one was watching the game. The call was right the execution was wrong.

The Legion of Boom started against Tom Brady in 2012, and ended by Tom Brady in 2014.
Lol facts
As a Seahawks fan, I gotta say there is some truth to that. Just like how we destroyed the 49ers...they've never been the same since that nfc championship game. We're looking pretty damn good this year though
They were still pretty good in 2015 tho
Yeah i guess the Legion of boom didn’t actually last very long. Few good years but where are most of those dudes now 5 short years later.
clifton james LMFAOOO your wack ass one hit wonder team and that NFC Championship game the refs gave y’all had nothing to do with the Niners downfall if you were smart you’d know coach harbaugh got fired and lots of our good players either retired, got traded, or left 💀💀💀🤦🏽♂️😂 and we’re starting off the season 3-0 this year that’s pretty good 🤷🏽♂️
I think, all things considered, this could seriously go down as the greatest game in NFL history. It had absolutely EVERYTHING you would want in a game. And to do it in the Superbowl? Best I've ever seen so far.
I agree
For sure. Either this one, cardinals vs Steelers Super Bowl, or falcons pats 28-3 come back Super Bowl.
The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl 48
This game and the 2018 AFC championship will always be my favorite Pats games of the decade. Incredible efforts that could have gone either way.
You cannot be serious, right?
Great post.
Exercised a few demons here, too. We'd lost to the Tyree catch in the same stadium 7 years previously.
Some of us still scarred from that feared the worst after the Kearse circle catch 😂😂😂
Best running back in the league at the time and decided to throw on the 1 yard line🤔 they deserved that L
Wasn’t the 20th best in that situation
Brady throwing that INT causing the DB to break his forearm was quietly one of the most beneficial moments for the patriots during that game. #LFG
NO
A very costly interception for the Seahawks.
Yup, because they then picked on Simon for I think 2 of the 4 TD's
The Lafell and Edelman TDs
@@brianchua4240 yeah but the pats gave them one at the half. Absolutely stupid playcalling
I still think it would make no difference, they were close to scoring either way with Lane there, Brady just stupidly threw it straight to him, thats how he is, he plays off at like the 1st half or so, 2nd half he starts to wake up
This was such a great SB. The emergence of Danny "Playoff" Amendola!!! Miss that dude.
Aaron Negron Pats could use Amendola right about now.
Miss that guy too.

Dear Pete Carroll, you promised a championship in New England in 1997, so thanks for keeping your word!
As a Seahawks fan, it took a lot of courage watching this... I was in 3rd grade when this game happened and still remember the sadness to this day.
😂 i was literally screaming tears of joy because those last couple of plays by the seahawks had my heart beating really fast. much respect to seahawks fans💯
#patsnationbaby🙌
I was also the only one rooting for the Patriots in the house; at my own Superbowl party too! When Kearse made that catch with a minute left I couldn't believe it; I thought it was going to be the ending of Superbowl XLII all over again and I just wouldn't have been able to handle that!
the greatest game I ever watched the climax was unbelievable lol the Jeremy lane injury the great story of Chris Matthews Tom Bradys 10 point comeback in the 4th Quarter. The legendary Seattle should of ran it Memes. The Immaculate INT. This is the Greatest Super bowl.

@@captainchaserman7148 and a good story line

Greatest? No.
Most balanced? Yes.
Tremendous.
Paul Lambert and the end of the first half was just as crazy both teams scored TDs in the final minute of the half
I stayed up all night. Glad I took the next day off from work
Paul Lambert Steelers vs cardinals steelers got a pick six at the goal line and it was in the super bowl

Brady picked that defense apart in the 4th quarter. This is the game that cemented him as the goat.
Not really. If you watched the game you would know that Julian Edelman injured our 2nd best corner at 1:20. He lead with his helmet and speared him, breaking Jeremy Lane's wrist. No flag there. They were injuring our defense all game, which is why he picked it apart in the 4th quarter. There was also a time when we were driving down the field and it was 3rd and 15 or something like that. Malcolm Butler got juked out of his shoes, and the guy was wide open over the middle. When Butler got his ankles broken, he was able to reach his arm out and trip our receiver. Larry Chandler but why? Lynch is terrible in yard to go situations and if butler didn’t know the play it would’ve been a touchdown. I think they should’ve play actioned and make Wilson roll out to his right. He then has the option to throw to the back of the end zone or run it in.
