The world's QUICKEST cars! - The Carmudgeon Show with Cammisa and Derek from ISSIMI Ep. 79

  • Put on a beret and grab a baguette because on this week's episode of the Carmudgeon Show, Jason and Derek are talking about the French (in name and origin story at least) monster that is the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. As well as the Lucid Air Sapphire and the Tesla Plaid. Why? Because all of them were featured in Jason's most recent episode of "Cammisa's Ultimate Drag Race Replay," last week where Jason had the world-exclusive with the Sapphire and happened to set a production car 1/4 mile record with it. (See it here: • The World's Quickest C... ) And as you'd expect, both Jason and Derek have their thoughts on these three cars!
    All this and more, brought to you by the Hagerty Podcast Network.

      love, love, love everything derek said about motorcycles in general. theyre pure freedom in an urban environment (esp where lane splitting is legal) and also amazing exhilaration in corners. also love my country (singapore)'s tiered licensing system that forces riders to reckon with different levels of power ina progressive way to help us educate ourselves and become comfortable with true speed. cant wait till i get my full license unlocked so i can join the liter bike club w y'all. im young and dumb and can afford to wait LOL

    Hyphen's explanation about the freedom that a motorcycle provides was excellent. I lived in Los Angeles for many years, so when I moved back east I there was no logical reason to stop splitting lanes (other than it's illegal. phht-who cares?). As you might imagine, east coast drivers get a lot more irate when they see a motorcycle "cheating". The fact of the matter is, a lane splitting motorcycle rider is in his own lane, even when not lane splitting. The acceleration/speed differential between most motorcycles and most cars is such that the motorcyclist can essentially maneuver wherever he (or she) wants, instantly. Oh, I love this podcast!

      Next time someone complains about you splitting lanes: ask them if they wish the que was longer and they were stuck behind a long line of bikes.... OR would they rather a shorter traffic que and the bikes be gone.

    What jason doesn't know is that the model 3 competitor is created since day 1. Its a sedan, no suv. Its that car that was under the wraps in the Air presentation. The car will have a 80kw battery and can do 400 miles, this meaning it will be most efficient car on the market. Lucid aims at not having cars below 400 miles range.

    I love a car guy with that much experience going... how do you drive a motorcycle on the streets. If you have never ridden a sportsbike you just don't get it. Derek's answer was really good but it is literally impossible to explain.

      And it needs to be said that you don't just hop on a litre bike and ride like that. Jason would hurt himself badly if he tried to ride one. Heck, even 600 class sportbikes are stupid fast. It takes a lot of skill building to ride well.

    First of all, I'm also a person who watches every carmudgeon, I discovered it a year or more too late, but I'm catching up and keeping with the new ones. What are you talking about, it's great stuff :)
    Second, about Rimac Nevera part, there is debate in Croatia (where the company is from) about it being a "real" product or a kinda of a scam for taking money from Croatia and EU funds. Only few days ago Rimac company got some penalties for not sending financial reports or such to the government agency. It is also somewhat controversial topic so i wont go into details (about his father being convicted financial criminal with ties to the ruling party, pretty much usual Balkan stuff) but it goes to show that good principles are good to stand by. Talking about what Jason said about considering car a production car. Quality stuff right there, no hype and no fanboyism and also no hate at all.

    Something to remember about not having any stability or traction control on a 3 or 4 motor vehicle.
    It’s not an open, limited slip, or locked differential. When 1 wheel slips it continues to speed up while the other could maintain traction. Effectively turning a burnout into a tank turn.

    As a motorcycle rider, I am always preaching to my car enthusiast friends that they need to experience a motorcycle. My way of putting a bike’s performance into a car-centric POV is you get 10 times the engineering in a bike vs a car ie. A 30k new bike is roughly equivalent to a new 300k car etc.

    Being able to turn off traction control is for being able to get unstuck in snow. Or when going up a ice covered hill, and your traction control starts braking and cutting throttle. Some can be defeated just by using full throttle, but if you ease up a bit, bam! throttle body closes , abs kicks in and all forward movement comes to a abrupt stop. If your going up a snow covered steep hill turn off traction control.

    Seeing Bugatti was awesome! But how about electric hypercars like Rimac, Pininfarina Battista and Evija? I think Evija is gonna be interesting because it's geared for top-end! 0-300km/h in 8.8 seconds (which is fastest among all hypercars)... but does 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds (which is kinda slow).. I'd love to see that on screen how Evija is slower than big sedans than it just pases them at like 100mph

    • @racesuey
      @racesuey Год назад +2

      @@surrealtom7670 actually, if you read about Colin Champman, his philosophy isn't to simply make everything light, it's to make car lightness/simplest given the fastest performance.
      Evija is 100-200kg lighter than any electric hyper car in its class while 0-300 being 3 second faster than not only other electric supercars but also other hypercars like Project 1 or Bugatti.
