  • There comes a time in every piece of technologies lifecycle that it becomes obsolete and something new and shiny replaces it.
But what if you aren't replaced? What if you are such a unicorn piece of tech that no one can even come close to what you do?
The #nikon P1000 came into this world in 2018, younger brother to the Nikon P900 and overall middle child in Nikons ultrazoom Coolpix range.
This was the only place it was Mid though, as it spent the next 6 years as the kind of the Ultrazoom camera with no amount of Smart phone Digital or AI zoom coming close to replicating its all in one ability to zoom to the moon.
Sadly it now appears the #p1000 is set to be discontinued as Nikon continues to shift focus, leaving only the P950 behind.
How do you feel about the Nikon P1000 being #discontinued Will you be rushing out to buy a P1000 before it vanishes from shelves for good?

A couple of years ago I damaged my B700, and went shopping for a P1000. Every place was backorder except for a few sites on Amazon selling at a high markup. Then I got a notice of refurb available from Nikon and I jumped on it. Best investment I made.
With the 3000mm equiv FL I can easily forgive small sensor size. Last year a pair of bald eagles nested near my home, I have hundreds of photos that I simply could not have gotten with a FF or APSC at ANY reasonable price (or weight) without mortgaging my home.
Of course it's still pretty big. I supplemented it with a pocketable Lumix ZS80 (with 24-720 zoom). Even that sure beats a phone, but the image quality is not up to the P1000

The P1000 as to its uniqueness is the number one camera in the world. It is on par with eccentricity to the Sigma 200-500 F2.8 monster lens from about 12 years ago without the $20 something thousand US price tag. Personally, I’m hoping for a 24 MP version of this camera as the 16 MP is now quite dated. I love this camera, and I think others do too because it is so much photographic fun. Who has heard of a camera that can photograph things that with your own eyes, you cannot see?? Yet this camera can peer deeply into the horizon and find subjects there to photograph. Nikon may want to wait for a couple more years but if this thing has been produced for six years, then there must be a considerable number of people buying this style of camera. Cheers and always want more!!

My post-editing images, combining this RAW with my personal configuration, deliver images that even the Canon R8, 90D, R7 and RP did not deliver to me, whether near or far targets. God forgive anyone who criticizes the Nikon P1000, they don't know what they're talking about, lol...

I absolutely love my NIkon P1000. It can be improved, but I am constantly amazed at the bird pictures I can squeeze out of it with post-processing. I'm glad I have one and hope that it lasts forever. But in case it doesn't, I fervently hope that Nikon creates a successor. Nikon, if you are reading it, please eventually offer an improved version of the P1000 at a reasonable price. My birdwatching is a quantum leap more enjoyable because of the images I can capture. I am totally addicted to the 125X zoom . . . and want more, more, more. More zoom, more image quality, and more image stabilization.

I love the P1000, but it has some major limitations. If a competitor ever releases a similar model:
The P1000's minimum aperture is only F8. Why not something like F22?
Secondly the sensor is soo noisy, even at ISO100. I heavily rely on the Adobe Lightroom Classic AI noise removing tool to get usable shots at all. I know that the camera is dependent on the small sensor's crop factor to get 3000mm effective focal length. But I just hope if we get a new release there is some improvement in the sensor noise.
And the finally hunting for focus contrast autofocus, especially at full zoom or low light, that sometimes takes 2 seconds to find focus and then sometimes still fails.
Plus a myriad of smaller issues.

A size of a DJI Pocket 3 has 1" sensor! I mean, if Nikon really wanted to make a killer flagship with this one, they could have just pulled the same with P1000 along GPS, Touchscreen and a OIS + EIS combo to even take better shots in low light. Low light with all the bridge cam sucks due to their small sensor size and no internal post processing. This would have completely stolen the spotlights even from other APSC Sensor imo.

Hi! Maybe Nikon doesn`t sell too much P1000`s and it has no profit from it. Anyway, I don`t understand why a superzoom must start from 24 mm. A superzoom must star at least from 36 mm or even more. I buy a superzoom for zoom not for wide angle. For wide angle we have smarphones. Imagine P1000 starting from 36 mm: 36x125=4500 mm. I remember my old S5 IS witch has only 12x zoom but starting from 36mm was amazing at that time. Well people, buy more land, they don`t make any.
