    Great analysis! I find that after finishing the entire story, 24 volumes of the web novel (starting the light novel and side stories). In retrospect you can appreciate the author’s intent in showcasing Rudy as this highly perverted, incel with problematic tendencies.
    As weird as it sounds having Rudy start from shutting himself in and becoming a NEET at age 14, and slowly degenerating having no contact with the outside world, and his reality being blurred between porn, rpg’s, and eroge for 20 years. His mind at 34 is at a fucked up state, likely having many mental issues if he were to be examined.
    Despite being physically 34, his mental age hasn’t gone past 14, and had even deteriorated further do to his 20 years of solitude. Essentially being what people like to call a “manchild”, despite Rudy thinking of himself as a properly developed adult.
    This type of person getting a redo of his life, in a situation and world that accepts him, as well as him taking this chance to better himself instead of remaining stagnant as he did in his previous life. Allows for us to see someone realistically redo their childhood with some help from his memories of the past.
    While learning to become a normal person, and having experiences that were robbed from him in his previous life. (Though could be argued were self inflicted, but thats still kind of the point)
    In this new world when compared side by side to his growth from birth to 14, he was able to have a more meaningful life than the past. And overcame many of his trauma’s from the past, while still having to deal with relapsing on certain issues.
    On the last episode we see a reflection on his past self both similar ages, 14 in the old world and 13 in the new world. Where both had dealt with a situation that lead to depression, stagnation, and trauma. The difference is that Rudy in the new world decided to step up and face life head on, which shows change from his past self who chose to stagnate and blame everyone else for his own misgivings.
    From that day forward he resumed his mental development going past the mental age of 14 and into a real adult, rather than the degenerated manchild he was in his past life.

      Man, I am super jealous that you've finished the entire story. It's taking a lot of restraint to not binge the web novels, but knowing how incredible the anime has been up until this point, and the fact that it has a really good shot of getting a full adaption is keeping me from doing it.
      Regarding your take on Rudy, I 100% agree. Without Rudy's deficiencies and issues, the show would be in no way as interesting as it has been over the past season. In fact, I would argue that his issues are probably the main draw of the show in general.
      While the last 3 episodes were probably my favorite of the entire series, the last one left me with chills by the end. The entire sequence with Zenith watching her family from the sidelines, the lighting, Rudy realizing what he has to do, everything about it was amazingly done. If they can continue to hit on those emotional highs, we're going to witness something really special.

      @@thewalkingstick6047 Honestly I’m super jealous of you that you’re able to watch the anime adaptation as an anime only! Theres a ton of stuff during the anime that I felt would have been a lot more impactful for me had I not binged the novels.
      Same with later on, I highly recommend staying anime only, but I also do highly recommend reading light novels 1-6 (what the anime got up to) since there was A LOT of skipped content in the anime. The anime only goes over the MAIN MAIN plot-points due to time restraints.
      The novels feel almost like a completely different story entirely, almost like the anime was just a small 2 hour demo of minecraft pocket edition, the manga being a crappy mobile knockoff of minecraft, the web novels are like vanilla minecraft on an xbox, while the light novels are like current minecraft with shaders running on an RTX 3090 with mods.
      If you noticed that they seem to just go from one place to another fairly quickly, and one episode can go by but they stay for a week, and another episode can go by but they stay for 3 months. Its not like that in the novels, you can really feel like you’re along for the adventure with them, fully feeling the passage of time, their group dynamic, as well as exploring and learning about the world. A lot of Rudy’s inner monologue of how he rationalizes situations and deals with internal and external problems are skipped in the anime as well. Not only Rudy but it shows perspectives on the other characters as well!
      The novels are just super well written, from the story, the world, the pacing, the characters, the setup. And the anime did as much as it could with its limited timeframe!
      If you do end up reading novels 1-6, don’t get tempted to continue like I did lol. There was a possibility of Studio Bind making a movie, which based on how the story goes, might be about the next arc, which is super important to fleshing out Rudy’s character!

    I think I got disillusioned with the isekai genre when I realized most of them could be summarized with a single word. Like, assassin isekai, slime isekai, food isekai, ww1 isekai, realist isekai, shield isekai, librarian isekai, videogame isekai, an so on (even though some of those are actually good). Finding Mushoku was definitely a breathe of fresh air. The early episodes were good, but the moment that really sold me was when Rudy got teleported to the demon continent. Beyond that, they made both the actual disaster and the impacts realistic and interesting.

    • @thewalkingstick6047
      @thewalkingstick6047  2 года назад

      That's actually super interesting and something I hadn't thought about! Now that I think about it, while some of those Isekai that can be summed up in a single word actually are pretty good (Slime was pretty fun), I find that the ones that really stick out are pretty difficult to define using that line of thought. Off the top of my head, when trying to define shows like Mushoku Tensei or Re:Zero, two that I think elevate the genre in really interesting ways, I would be hard pressed in fitting them into a single definition, since they hit on so many different marks. Good take!

    I really dislike excessive fanservice in anime, but the lore and story of mushoku tensei was so good that i kinda started ignoring the fanservice, and i think that Rudy development as a person needed the fanservice to show how he grow out of that habits of his past and became a better person

    My first anime was Sekirei where the crux of the show is ecchi harem. I am always going to recommend people to watch mushoku tensei, cause after finishing the web novel the story and world are up there with shit like Lord of the Rings. Shit slaps hard, no cap. 10/10 would recommend.

      I've never heard of Sekirei, but I definitely agree that the worldbuilding and story of Mushoku Tensei have been fantastic so far. Funniest comment I've seen so far about Rudy's harem is that he's collected the 3 Pokemon Starter types (Fire = Eris, Water = Roxy, Grass = Sylphie). Don't know why that pops up in my head every time somebody brings up Rudy's love life, but cracks me up regardless

    All about separating the wheat from the chaff

    • @thewalkingstick6047
      @thewalkingstick6047  2 года назад

      Absolutely! I think the point that I was trying to make was that for every Konosuba, there are 5 Isekai that copy/paste the generic formula we've all come to know and... love... but I feel like sifting through the "chaff" and finding that rare piece of "wheat" makes it all the more enjoyable when you do find it.

    • @baalzamon3593

      @@thewalkingstick6047 I think it's true that more Isekai is mediocre or bad than is good or amazing. I think that's true for more than just Isekai though.
      For every AoT, there's a Seven Deadly Sins AND a Fairytale. No offense to people who like Melodious or (drool) Merlin, but there is more animation in 4 seconds of Kazuma's hand than in the entire last season of Seven Deadly Sins
