- Hey, it me, The Walking Stick. Today (or 3 weeks ago when I recorded), I sucked the dick of an anime called Mob Psycho 100. The show was often thought of as the ugly stepchild of One Punch Man, but then both of their season 2's happened, and look how the roles have reversed.
Mob is one of my favorite characters in the space of animation, period. The author One really knows how to write people that actually act like human beings, and watching the inspiring journey of Mob, Reigen and the entire crew was an absolute blast. It also helps that the animation is orgasmic.

Personally, the art style was one of the things that originally drew me to mob. These days most anime have the similar boring style that got old really fast when everywhere you turned every anime looked the exact same. Mobs style was unique and charming, something I hadn’t seen in a long time.
Same, it was refreshing to see a completely different art style and the beautiful crisp animation only made it better.
The same thing happened to me with Ranking of Kings.
RIGHT its also the reason why I've been watching older animes, they feel more stylized but mob psycho is fairly new. I really love that even though the source material was hard to work with, they somehow made the anime look good but STILL kept the essence and feeling of the manga. Instead of copy pasting the same anime artstyle(looking at you kcc)
I honestly really love the art style, but I think that's just because I'm sick of most mainstream anime trying to look as conventionally pretty and sanitized as humanly possible. It just makes it feel really fake y'know? Which is why I latched on to Mob's art style so much. it just felt like a breath of fresh air, and it its "uglier" form more true to the world around us.
I just started watching mob psycho like a week ago on episode 13 and each episode I just catch myself saying “this is an anime done right.”
I think the character designs work so well here not only bc the simplicity helps in creating insanely expressive and colorful animation, the "ugly" or quirky and almost the same looking faces (combined with great and wholesome sense of humor) help in delivering this show's message about fitting in society, how nobody is truly better from others bc of their looks and that's why we shouldn't worry too much about it and be brave to be just ourrselves, everyone here has some unique looks while at the same time, everyone feels like being the same, with similar social issues, fears, dreams etc, we all have so many things in common and we're not alone with how we feel. Imo season 3's opening breaks down the character designs exactly with this kind of message in mind. Especially when you'll look at the beginning of it.
the character design wasn't really a strong point of ONE in the first place, so i don't think it goes that deep.
@@gabbie25 I think it does go that deep bc instead of trying to create some terrible overdetailed designs, ONE understood his lack of skills and used it for his advantage, creating simple, yet very memorable shapes and color schemes. It takes genuine talent to be self aware like this.
It's like, the studio was passionate about it themselves and you can feel it by the way they did the past two seasons. I'm excited about season 3 and whatever they've got in store for us.

It's a verified, certified, dignified banger of a show and takes the #1 spot for my favorite anime. I also adore your choice of using the instrumental version of "Gray" at 1:15 right after saying "and without further ado: mob psycho 100" it's just a really good editing choice. Even timed your clip cuts with each word. I'm also noticing you matched the cuts with the melody/beat of the song right after that too. These are a lot of really good subtle edits I love this
I'm legit in awe at how good it is from 1:15 to 1:28. Just watch through that, holy shit solid editing I'm serious
At 1:24 it looks like you did a very very small cut so that Reigen putting his hand on Mob's shoulder is perfectly timed with the beat and I think that's a really cool choice
I also like how at 1:22 the song's brief glitchy distortion sound is timed with the clip you chose where Mob's inner complexes zip back into him and then the beat matches it as he goes 100% too
Nah dude I'm serious there's so many great details in this video even past the parts I mentioned. I can't believe this is the first video I've seen from this channel just out of my recommended. I wish more people would put this much care into sound and feel when editing
I'm glad you noticed all of this! The scene at the ending of Season 2 Episode 1 absolutely floored me the first time I watched it, and was also when I knew this show was going to do something special. The entire song is a banger as well, so I thought it would be fun to try and do it justice! Glad it came out well.

The art style is unique and one of the reasons I love Mob Psycho, the story is truly a masterpiece
Both One Punch Man and Mob Psycho got great fights, but the story of Mob Psycho is just eliteee

I don't think there will be ever a show as unique as MP100. Everything single aspect of it was wonderfully done by Bones, I really love their work on shows they've worked on, in fact 2 animes of my top 3 are done by them, these being MP100 and Noragami. Also I really love your video, the quality is immense for such a small channel, I wish you luck further on your channels path!
Thank you for the kind words! Bones really does have a long history of making great shows (Full Metal Alchemist, Kekkai Sensen, etc.). I was always surprised how Noragami never got a continuation considering how popular it was. Hopefully it joins the many other franchises that randomly get revived 10 years later!
@@thewalkingstick6047 seeing that Hataraku Maou-sama got an S2 really rekindled my hope for Noragami S3, I really hope Bones consider doing that 😔

I feel like Mob is ONE true masterpiece, rather than OPM. While both good written overpowered MC theme, Mob have more depth for its character and well development not only to mob but almost all side character--
I remember ONE said in old interview that OPM was his "not serious" series bcs its his starter web comic. Then eventually blew up bcs Murata remake it and overshadow the project he serious making.
Ppl love Murata artstyle and the "joke" part abt ONE artstyle. But i think this is indirectly give ONE insecurities abt his drawing skill-- like ONE blatantly said in Mob antology manga, that if urasunday found good Mob psycho fan-manga its better to hire them rather than him...
I love both his series, but mob is just special. To see ONE art improvement from chapter 1 to chapter 101, and how well Bones adapting the manga using ONE artstyle, it can give courage to ppl who just entering art/manga community
0:26 no. A simple art style or one that doesn't aline with your average anime does not mean it's bad or "drawn by a 3rd grader" in any way and I think having this unrealistic expectation for shows to be 'pretty' really hurts future shows that might want to experiment with they're art style from being seen, instead being written off as ugly.
One may not be a good artist but hot damn are his story writing skills top tier.
Mob psycho is an anime that starts out kinda boring in the beginning of a season but has absolutely amazing climatic battles as it gets toward the end of a season. Also the final battle has gotten better each season. Hope that trend continues in s3

Mob is one of the funniest anime of all time, and it also has some of the best character development of any show I've ever watched
Your video actually made me cry , this anime really means a big part of my world . It helped me grow , and by that I mean I was the same age as the character while watching it for the first time and I was in the same situation only with no powers as goofy as it sounds .
I am sad that it will end , I promise myself to enjoy this last season to the highest point 100%

it always astounds me that mob psycho 100 was created by the same author who made one punch man and ossa na ka, which are both goofy to the core, aimless webcomics. like what the heck. i could feel the dude suddenly getting passionate.
I just watched this without any idea what's in it and I enjoyed every second of it.
I love ANIME/MANGA and I've watched enough to recognize and name alot of voice actors. I even recognized the voice of Katsura from Gintama in the S2 of this anime.
I can say that this is truly a masterpiece. From beginning to end.
I spent 2 days watching season 1,2 and 3 of mob pyscho 100 and its official my favorite anime period tho. I'm pretty new to anime stuff my friend recommended that I should watch anime and so far I'm LOVING IT.
I was entranced by the different art style. Even the use of dark green as their line art color. Wich makes everything looks "dirty". But thats it. Like the show and interactions, not everyone needs to be clean or purposed. They are just things that happen and you dont need to judge everything.

Yeah, it's natural for 2 shows written by the same guy to be compared, but they really are both great in their own right. No need to bash one to prop up the other.
I agree but like don't get me wrong. I read the whole web comic and tbh the plot was probably the thing that made me stay. That's how powerful ONE's storytelling is. Even with OPM. I prefer his version of the story after the adaptation kinda moved on to somewhere boring (for me).
Also, I usually don't like watching anime because they disappoint me (lol) but SB did well this time.

Mob Psycho is simply a masterful anime
I'm impressed by the personal journey of the manga artist ONE by improving his artstyle over time. He's recently been releasing omakes of MP100 on twitter (in tangent with season 3's weekly episodes) and there's a huge improvement in his artstyle compared to his first released volume. It is proof that hard work & perseverance on your weaknesses really pays off and its never too late to improve yourself.

Hope you enjoyed the ending! Kinda surreal that the show is completely over, but I can't think of a better ending than what it got.

Some years ago my brother showed me it and i got bored but this year i actually watched it and it was pretty good
Funny how One created two series with the main character being overpowered and can pretty easily beat most enemies with a side character lying about their power.
im so glad my brother not only recommended this show to me, but also reminded me to watch it when i left it alone after season 1 after two months. the art style was a turnoff for me but ive grown to love it

I feel like a lot of normies and dudebros ignored MP100 because of its visual and the initial impression of simplicity, and they only pick it up now that the "elitists" who already saw it as great are starting to share their analysis on ONE's deeper writing and characterization (aka they normies and dudebros are jumping on the bandwagon)

I'm both sad that it's over, but glad that it got such an excellent, complete (which never happens) adaptation. Couldn't ask for anything more.
idk how i stumbled across this in my recommended, but yes I agree so much. Mob is just heartwarming, and i know you commented about the artstyle and it's understandable but it's one of my pet peeves when people criticize the show since it's not a good criticism and just tells us how people are bound to convention cuz silly = bad. I think i'm rambling. But yes, Reigen is my favorite from the show and I'm rly excited where season 3 takes the show. Looking forward to more vids!

The artstyle is reminiscent of western cartoons to me. It's really acts like an inbetween for the two while still keeping amazing animation the whole way.

Mob Psycho really holds a special place in my heart, and the quality of the fight scenes is one of the reasons I’d like to become an animator one day
Personally, I love the art style. The exaggerated facial expressions make the characters feel more real and emotive compared to other anime styles, and I think the art style is cute in some scenes
