Ahh... the days Honda made some fun sporty cars for everyone. Now they are dead and boring as hell aside from the new Type R that is headed here soon. The 90's were an amazing decade for car guys/gals!
I recently bought a '97 base model hatch. I like it (even tho it's still sitting in my driveway while I gather the funds to fix it) but damn, I'd love one of these
@@thiscrazytangerine8954 Yeah, sadly I had to scrap my hatch..I realized the amount of money and effort it would take to fix it wouldn't be worth it..hopefully I'll be smart next time and save my money for something less broken and not buy the first one I see..
@@SgtSnazzerino at least you learned! Project cars always cost money... thankfully hondas are relatively cheap depending on what's needed. It took me a few years to find my em1. It's been through a paint job, another hood, almost all the sensors, and bushings. The only mods I have on it are tein lowering springs, axis og wheels, asr sub frame brace, short shifter, intake, header, full 2.5 in cat back exhaust, poly motor mounts, poly shifter bushings, and a stereo. I now have 207,000 miles on it and drive it daily. Everything on it still works... ac, heat, cruise control. It has been a damn good car.
@@thiscrazytangerine8954 Well who knows maybe I'll find my own EM1, although being from Maine the weather is not too kind to vehicles. I think the only thing that I had going for that old hatch was it was from Virginia and free of rust. Until then, I'll see what I can do to make my Ranger a little better lol
you might be seeing dx/ex's. ive been seeing a lot of those or some dumbass with a fake si badge but base model rims lol. i own a em1 so it pisses me off when people try to up badge their common trim civic. having a true classic si is suppose to be special.
I once stole my neighbors si and damaged it put it back in his driveway then his insurance sent it to auction and I bought from there legally so I could insure it
Had a stock one (2000 model year) as a daily driver for 14 years, Would probably still have it if some texting bitch didnt plow into it and total it :(
I have the european hatchback version of it, the ek4. To be honest I think the body is too heavy for this low torque engine. In a 950kg car, it would probably be very fine but even the EE8 crx was over 1000kg (stock) when equipped with the B16.
I wish they would release old cars like they do with old jordans.
I say this all the time about this car
Retro sale
What an amazing idea
I would pay 35.000 easy for a new EM1
That would be incredible
This is probably the only stock example of a '99 civic si
I had a beautiful stock one with 80k miles until last month. Such an awesome car.
@@LOGEZZZZZBROwas it involved in a crash, sold, modified?
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 I sold it. It was completely stock.
@@LOGEZZZZZBRO I'm sure the buyer was very happy.
Think about this, In 2000, Honda had the S2000, Si, Prelude SH, GS-R, Type R and NSX in their lineup. Wow.
Honda guy finds pristine SI, tears AC out of it SMH
This was the car of my dreams when I was 14. Still kinda is I love that blue
Yes i had dreams of buying one of these cars for years. I finally bought the blue one in May and I haven't regretted a single dollar I spent
I drive a '13 Civic Si now, and although I still love my car, I'd still trade it for a 4th gen Si in half a heartbeat!

Acc0rd79 the 60s 70s and 90s were the best year for car. people
SIs and GSRs were truly amazing cars. Theyre less powered but have a better 0-60 than the first gen frs and new miata lol.
EM1 FTW
Nice review ! Miss these old Honda’s
This reminded me of school films back in the day!!

Sgt Snazzy it took me awhile to find a decent em1. They are hard to come by in good condition.

My mom test drove a 97 hatch, frog green. Driving at 60 felt like going 90.
my ears arrghhh
I like all Honda Civic Si’s. This one I still see a LOT of one the roads today.

I definitely would have splurged for those optional floormats.
79 dollars in 1999!
I own this car and I love to drive it. I just wish the sound quality was better on this recording.
Best car I ever owned. I miss it.
Electron blue was available here in Canada on the Si-R
Proud to say I bought an unmolested low mileage 99 SIR as my first car. Felt like I bought it from the dealer floor.
From when I was a kid till now, I’ve seen the prices for these jump up
Loved my 99 Si. Unfortunately so did thieves. Stolen twice.

Yup. I own a Electron Blue Pearl EM1 and I would feel the same way if I let it go
I love the look of these stock ones. To many look like ass
Got mine new.still got it
Does this guy talk to his wife in that voice?
Yes he does.
Amazing cars

Great sports car
Not a sports car....
I love the civic si
That’s a lot of money for 1999 considering that a new civic si in 2019 has a turbo adaptive suspension and all the tech for 24k
Inflation
@@APrairieDog That makes no sense.
I bet the 1999 runs for more years before requiring major repairs.
It's more like the modern Si is extremely affordable.
I’ve never driven this gen. How does it compare with the 8th gen?
8th gen is much faster and the suspension is about equal.
Mexicans and teenage white boys destroyed every single one of these
The body kit times
''Low Profile'' 195/55r15 !! ? guess they were lo pro at their times
I hated and loved these cars at the same time.
im the same way and i drive one :D
17k for an si
That same one sold for six figures today
55 tires were consisidered low profile lol
I dont like 55 , 50 or nothing lol
111 pound ft or torque? That is a nice queefing machine.
They are not designed for low end torque, it is a slug until it starts its power band at 5500 PM.
I don't think you understand Hondas
Look how they perform on track even with low torque
@@ArtVandelayOfficial oh no i don't? It was just a question about torque. I wonder if the torque numbers that low does that make the car queef?
Abs is not available 😱
That thing is probably recycled now
Likely still running, unlike new cars which won't be after 3-4 years lol
if only the SI had abs like the db2 integra...

The 2022 civic has 158 hp and it's almost 28k$ LOL Honda is hosing the public.
